Love the honesty concerning the reason to go vegan. Nothing wrong with seeing how someone else lives and giving it a try. :) Btw, seeing how you live has increased my physical activity even more. I now do a quick workout in the morning to get my blood pumping.
This may sound weird, but watching you is good for mental health! Such a positive and constructive vibe! You make me want to better myself but without the pressure of being perfect. Have a nice day!
Honestly, one of the things I’ve enjoyed most about your videos (besides the skin care episodes and vlogs, of course), is that you don’t push veganism. You just show your natural day-to-day life, and it inspires people to maybe “give it a try”. I’m not vegan, but I know you’ve been opening my mind to trying to implement more vegan foods. It’s not forced at all. What I don’t like about many of the vegan UA-cam videos I’d seen, was where they try to make people feel guilty for not living a vegan lifestyle. I think that is where they can turn people off, rather than towards eating vegan.
I have been vegan for 2 years. I have never found it to be depriving. I never "fell off the wagon" or was tempted to cheat. For the most part, I was a healthy eater to begin with. I rarely ate fast food. Never ate chips or soda. I ate seafood, eggs occasionally and cheese. I was never a red meat lover or pork enthusiast lol. If you are not a routined eater (pizza night, meatloaf Monday, Saturday buffet, Red meat Sunday, fast food lunches), are adventurous, conscious about what you buy at the grocery store and not super picky about what you eat.....the transition is fairly seamless. Educating myself thoroughly and prepping for it ahead of time made it an easy change in my lifestyle. Not grueling at all.Road trips get easier with time and experience. Vacations and airports get easier with experience. It is not for everyone because of lifestyle, maybe your partner is not into it, lots of reasons. My husband went pescatarian first, then vegan.I went vegan cold turkey. I did not tell anyone but him. HE is the one who tells EVERYBODY we are vegan. I just prefer "plant-based" myself lol. It can be a little embarassing how he likes to announce it. Ugh, I just want to order my Japanese food.... I don't care what other people decide to eat. On holidays or at work, we bring something to share or just say "No thank you. " Saying No......half the battle in transitioning.
Loved hearing about your vegan journey ! I always loved to eat plants and so naturally once I found out about the impact on the environment and the animal cruelty involved with utilizing animal products, it was a no brainer for me and I just switched over.
I've been vegan for almost 2 years and it was one of the best decisions of my life, I don't have that "heavy" feeling anymore after eating and just overall feel healthier mentally and physically. At first it was a little challenging but after learning a few recipes and getting the hang of things it started to become more fun trying out new foods ect... best of luck to your vegan journey!
As a southeast Asian woman who learned how to use chopsticks before a fork, I love your cute chopsticks and using them left handed. It’s a great way to keep the mind going. And helps to slow eating for those like me who eat a little too fast haha.
@Vlad the Impaler of German Saxons seeing the way some people struggle with them, yes I do think chopsticks can involve brain power. Also, what’s with all this stereotyping? If you knew SEA you’d know my last name says enough. Also, you’re talking a lot of crap for someone with “Vlad the impaler” in their user name.
I went vegetarian about five years ago. Did it for the animals more than health but its helped a lot with my immune system (had asthma, regular colds and chronic cough - haven't used a puffer in years.)
I went from vegetarian to vegan on the spot when I found out that dairy and eggs also means needlesly killing animals. Vegan since 2 years.. never going back 💚
Was vegetarian for two years but didn’t really suit me: it made my its flare up ( i can eat lentils or legumes) and made me lose a lot of hair. On a ketogenic lifestyle now for 9 months (not for weight loss) and i feel a lot better
There is a newer Netflix documentary called the Game Changers which really brings veganism and athletics into perspective. We are definitely trending in this direction!!
Hello Dr Dray with so many options available on UA-cam can you recommend a good source for recipe ideas or cookbooks for someone that is transitioning to healthier more plant based diet. Thank you
Totally agree with your comment on overthinking. Sometimes not thinking as much facilitates success. Yes! Analysis paralysis, and the brain's resistance to change
Lots of fruits and vegetables for me, chicken one time per week, fish one time per week, beef meat one time per month. Lots of water, no sugar, no sodas, no more smoking nor drink. Still i consume milk, cheese and yogurt 😁
I can relate to your admission about being influenced by UA-camrs. Because of you, I now want a Cosori and an air fryer! Your minimalism is very inspiring to me as well.
I remember reading an interesting article about how in some societies eating animals or an omnivore diet is actually more environmentally friendly due to the difficulty of raising crops in those areas, but I do agree that in most places esp developed countries it’s better for the environment/energy use to eat more of a vegetarian/vegan diet.
This looked super tasty! I made a sort of tofu char siu (it’s usually made with pork). The marinade was hoisin sauce, soy sauce, garlic, fresh ginger, rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil, and Chinese 5 spice. I am in love with Chinese 5 spice now. Sometimes I open the jar and just smell of it.
The best thing I ever did for myself. I went vegan 🌱 for my health. Like you I was heading to a vegan life style. One of the final straws was buying a chicken with feathers on it. Also I watched knife and fork documentary. I felt better 1 week after changing to a vegan lifestyle. My daughter is also a vegan. She helps and encourage me. 6 months for me 😁
In the past I've dabbled with a vegan diet but always found it hard to maintain.By this I mean not eating dairy and all the little things that we add to our diet that are animal products. But the vegetables, legume and no meat thing has always been easy for me. But you have made my quest to go completely vegan seem attainable! So as usual thank you for all your great info and of course your recipes.
It’s doable! I have had similar issues, but I’m making it work. You find substitutions! For example, I just found some nice, nutty and fruity vegan bread for breakfast this week.
I have not tried Sunbasket but I also wanted to learn how to cook vegan so I tried Purple Carrot. I had a GREAT experience and did it for about a year. I stopped because I started traveling a lot but I learned a lot new cooking skills and found so many good products to try.
Dr. Dray, can you do a piece on skin tags at some point. I'm plagued with them as are most of the woman in my family so I'm assuming they are hereditary. What causes them and is there an easy way of removing them? Thanks so much, love your videos!
Oh sweet baby jesus, Houston and anywhere in the swampland called the states of Florida and Louisiana. Christmas crackers, how I hate those roaches. Gaint crawling beastie things that come in even if your house is clean your doors are shut and the door jams checked.
Love the honesty. Thanks for sharing. I thought of you today, I’m making a vegan soup today with cauliflower and kale. I’m not vegan, so I’m having a side of chicken with my soup.
Thanks for sharing your journey! I've been vegan for 8 years now and it is hands down the best decision I have ever made. I feel healthier, can eat more without putting on extra weight, and most importantly have a clean conscience as an animal lover.
I'm so excite to see this video! I've been wondering why and how you switched! I could easily be on a plant based diet, my obstacle is creativity with the cooking and recipes . You always make delicious meals! Thank you for sharing!😘💜😉
I've been watching your channel for a few weeks now, and i'm just now figuring out that you're vegan! I've been watching mostly your skincare videos though. I've been vegan for about 6 years now, and my process was gradual. I just started replacing non vegan foods with vegan alternatives, and of course there is a bit of a learning curve to cooking as well. My skincare and makeup products have slowly been veganized over the years, although I was already using mostly cruelty free items I transitioned to fully vegan products over the years. Watching UA-cam videos has helped with finding quality alternatives. I've even found a few thanks to your channel! Btw, I love your dog's name, Tybee. We go to Jekyll Island regularly in GA, which is just down the coast from Tybee Island, which is what I think of when you talk about your dog!
5 years vegan. No sob sob story for me either! Staying vegan for the environment, the animals and my health. :) After a while you just stop looking at animal products as food
I was vegan for over 2 years, and I didn't find it hard. I have a feeling that if you're fully convinced in what you're doing, then it is much easier. It's hard to do if you're not fully sold on it. The thing that ended up concerning me, was some nutrient absorption including omega 3's. As far as I am aware, the plant-based sources of omega 3's are not the same as those found in fish, which are long chain fatty acids. And as we age, it becomes harder for our bodies to turn those short chains into long chains. I am open to being corrected, but as far as I've looked, that was the big problem for me. I am just not sold on the long term effects of a full vegan diet. Maybe it works for some? I don't know. But I don't think anyone can argue against whether a mostly plant-based diet is most beneficial. I am open to differing opinions.
There are many algae based Omega3 sups on the market today which are true DHAs&EPAs, not ALAs. Fish doesn’t make their own dha&epa, they obtain it from algae and eating other fish. Eye opening, I know! Much safer to cut out the middle fish and go straight to the source
Vegan for a year and feeling great! Hard to eliminate cheese, but now my joint pain is gone! I tried Purple Carrot which is an all vegan food delivery. The recipes were wonderful. I had some problems with the raw veggies-somethings would be ripe faster than others. Also, there was a lot of packaging. But delicious food! Even my omni spouse liked it.
You explain everything so thoughtfully, precisely, and carefully with details and details. I feel like such a careless person in comparison.. at least when trying explain a thought or rationale
I subscribed to SunBasket for about 7 months and liked it a lot. It was so convenient and had advantages over the other services. The recipes were varied and I learned a lot. I stopped because there were several instances of poor quality produce and it was always annoying when something arrived rotting or not edible. Now I use the recipes but buy the ingredients at the local store to ensure I get good ones. Thanks for sharing your journey!
CJ Happy Tuesday Sweetie!! I hope you are having a Fabulous Day!! Please stay warm!! Love you Bunches and Bunches!! Always and Forever!! Sending Big Hugs!!
I don't think I will ever be vegan just because of cheese and eggs, lol. But I'm trying to eat much more veggies, which is weird because I love them, guess I have to amp my cooking game! "Dude, I follow a vegan diet, whatevs"😂😂😂 Love it
You might want to read or watch the vids on The Cheese Trap by Dr. Neal Barnard--really illuminating I think. I was the same, thought I could never give up dairy (butter in my case), so I remained vegetarian not vegan for years and years; when I finally decided, it was pretty easy (similar to what Dr. Dray was saying). The health effects are amazing--a bonus!
Can you talk about your thoughts on animal testing ? I am vegan, but in my country it becomes very difficult to remain cruelty free, because I have mild rosacea , and all the cruelty free products available here contain essential oils. Very frustrating.
Thanks for this and sharing your story with us. We have a Buddhist Temple near us that has a cafe adjoined to it and they serve amazing food made with tofu that is made to look like meat (tvp, crumbed soy, soy patties etc) and it tastes pretty good too! They serve all vegetarian food (not 100% sure if it is vegan, doesn't state on their website) but it was this cafe that introduced me to the idea that not eating meat can actually be a very pleasant experience. Now I'm hungry.
I tried to go vegan and it was very hard for me. But I want to try again. Dr. Dray Curology sent me tretinoin 0.009 mixed with 9% azelaic acid and 1% clindamycin. Do you think this is a good mix for tretinoin starter?
Hello to Dr Dray and all the Dray Peeps! I'm AFRAID of TOFU!!! You know you got me shakin' in my boots! You are such a scream, such a delight to watch and oh so witty. Love this vlog. Never thought much of going straight vegan.. ..The dairy would stop me for sure. I do enjoy vegan recipes and love seeing all of the delicious looking meals you make. Thanks!
Diane Evans ~ I tried Tofu once, and it didn’t go over well. Then a friend from Indonesia told me I wasn’t eating the right one. 🧐 I think if we had a Costco or Whole Foods here, I would be finding more variety in my veggies and healthier foods.
@@TRWoods914 I love tofu just have never cooked it myself. I always get it with my take out order of Chinese. Its cooked in some type of Asian garlic sauce with eggplant and it's super delicious!!!
Diane Evans ~ I need to give Tofu another try. I’m salivating with just the idea of eggplant and garlic. Lol - I didn’t get your “Afraid of Tofu” line. Silly me; I’m slow. 😊👍🏻
I'm like you, I Contemplated being vegan for years, even though I never ate a lot of meat or dairy (I'm lactose intolerant). Then in my 50's I developed metabolic syndrome (blood pressure on an upward trend & prediabetes). So I went vegan (almost 4 yrs ago). After about 6 mo my blood sugar became perfectly normal, and a few months after that my GO was back to 100/70. In addition, my GERD and IBS went away within a year . The environmental and Animal cruelty issues have also become very important to me. The only thing it hasnt helped is my ACNE! So I'm grateful that your videos are so educational on both fronts (and didn't know about this wonderful easy cooking source...thx!)
So glad to hear your health has improved so much! Acne rarely goes away with dietary modifications, unless you were a heavy skim milk drinker...since you are lactose intolerant i would assume that was not the case
Dr. Dray do you believe your medical education provided a good amount of focus on nutrition or did you have to do a lot of self-learning on the subject?
Yes. People are always going on about how doctors are not trained "enough in nutrition," but we get more than enough education on the topic in order to act within the scope of practice, outside of that, we rely on our RD colleagues. Yeah, it would be great if we had more extensive focus in our curriculum, but you could argue that point about any topic. When people lament that "doctors don't know enough nutrition" it is sort of a misinformed criticism. I also am knowledgable about a variety of social services and community programs that are important to address in well-rounded patient care, but I don't pretend to be a social worker and I likewise rely on excellent social workers in executing well-rounded care. I know pharmacology well,, but also know when I am outside of my comfort zone when it comes to certain things and then need to turn to my pharmacy colleagues. Medicine is a team effort and requires that everyone practice self-directed learning and act together rather than as an "island" so to speak.
Dr. Dray, you are so sincere and transparent in relating what drove you to change to a vegan diet. I would like to go vegetarian. I get push back from my husband; he is a major meat eater. He would be very happy if I made beef everyday (that's definitely not happening). Beef in the store has gotten disgusting and very often tastes like it is on the verge of spoiling. That is because of the way the food chain is mass produced and it takes too long to get to the consumer. I find beef really disgusting. I would love to try a vegetarian diet; but, so far have not been able to do it. For me, a big part of changing my diet is animal treatment motivated. I hope I can one day make the transition. You are an inspiration, Dr. Dray. I would enjoy more videos of you doing food prep. It is a challenge for all of us. PS Heh! Dr. Dray, I need those kind of chopsticks! LOL I am chopstick handling challenged!
I loved hearing your story. I've been vegetarian for 16 years and vegan for 6 months. I feel amazing eating this way and actually have a more diverse diet as a vegan than before.
Hi I found you as I was looking for some skin care products reviews and I just had to subscribe. Your simple, funny and honest opinion on skin care blew me away. Thanks to you I am also seriously thinking about changing what I and my family eat. I would love to know which books or UA-cam vegan / Mediterranean cooks or nutritionists you think will help me with these healthy meal ideas. Thank you again for your uplifting message.
I never enjoyed eating meat growing up. I’m fully convinced I would have been vegetarian much sooner had my mom let me cut meat out of my diet. I still consider going vegan from time to time, I just don’t know how I’d feel not eating milk chocolate anymore 😆
I grew up in a place where animals are slaughtered out in the open and even as a child it felt wrong eating meat. I went vegetarian one I movie out of my parents and now I’m more plant based.
As a vegan student striving to be a dermatologist, I can’t stress how much of an inspiration you are to me! I love your content so much- it’s the highlight of my morning! I’m so glad to have found you xx 💕
We loved following a vegan diet. There are so many wonderful flavors and recipes. Have you ever tried making seitan? We had a great recipe for “corn beef” flavored seitan that was wonderful on sandwiches. Another favorite was tofu “scallops” that were seasoned with Old Bay and kelp flakes. Alas, it was too difficult to maintain a vegan diet with diabetes, so we’re back to meat and low-carb 😊
I hate roaches 🦗, too. I used to live in an area where roaches were everywhere, regardless of hygiene. Since I moved to a different climate, I haven’t seen one since I moved away 🤣
Dr. Dray, what are skin care/beauty essentials that we should carry in public? Especially for school and work as the season changes. That would be a good future video! Throughout my school career, I always experienced dry skin in the winter and didn't bring lotion. When I did bring lotion, I wouldn't have the right product for dry skin (fragranced Bath and body works) which didn't help. In high school and college, eczema/perioral dermatitis was really painful and I would cry because I didn't know how to maintain the itchy skin besides cold water and irresponsibly not bring skin care products with me.
Loved this! I also tried going vegan a few years ago and felt amazing, but unfortunately it made my acne go from zero to 100! Thankfully I’ve got it under control now, I’ve even started my own channel documenting my journey and sharing how I cleared my skin. Your tips and advise are always so helpful! Love your channel xxx
I finally found the video about why you went vegan. I am thinking about it myself but I have an auto immune disease whereby I lose protein so I will have to talk to my doctor about it to find out if it will be helpful or hurtful. Also I have to take a prescription Iron tablet.
Forks over Knives on Netflix is also a very good documentary on eating vegan and the benefits of it. I live in Florida, so I can definitely relate to the roach issue!😆
Thanks for sharing your journey with us, Dr Dray. I'm not vegan, but I consume very little meat. No red meat, pork , wild game or seafood. I have eaten this way since I was very little. Used to frustrate my mom but she was never able to change my eating habits. I definitely prefer veggies. Hope you have a good evening. 😊
This was a really interesting video. The recipe looks delicious !! Thank you Dr. Dray! Yea unfortunately there is no escaping roaches in Texas....and like they say everything’s bigger in Texas😬 ❤️😘🤗❤️
Please could you review some products from the brand Purito? I've been seeing a lot of their products lately and they seems to be really good, especially their sunscreen! :)
I’m glad you shared. I’m the same way-never really consumed a lot of meat, dairy, etc. Plus, my skin reacts horribly to dairy, soy, and just crappy foods, in general. I want to get better about preparing more vegan meals bc I feel like I hit a roadblock with certain things.
Hi Dr Dray, happy Tuesday..really enjoy watching you prepare and cook food, you never cook with normal white potatoes is there any reason why?...see you tomorrow x

Honestly, one of the things I’ve enjoyed most about your videos (besides the skin care episodes and vlogs, of course), is that you don’t push veganism. Why do you not use any oils?
I love how you manage to be aspirational AND relatable at the same time! Great vid, Dr Dray :)

Yeah, absolutely. In the US, however, that is unlikely the case, given the massive scale of the meat/dairy industry

There are many algae based Omega3 sups on the market today which are true DHAs&EPAs, not ALAs. Fish doesn’t make their own dha&epa, they obtain it from algae and eating other fish. Eye opening, I know! Much safer to cut out the middle fish and go straight to the source
HAPPY TUESDAY DR DRAY!!
Happy Tuesday!
Dr Dray Thank you so much!! I hope you are enjoying your Day!! Always! xoxO
I didn't have to work today because we had a snow day in Alabama because it was supposed to snow today. There's no snow on the ground :D

@@jackiemarsh2470 thanks! You too
I love how heartfelt, personal, and encouraging this video is 💙
thanks!
:)
sliced tofu and fry with green pepper. soy bean source. finish and yum
You explain everything so thoughtfully, precisely, and carefully with details and details. I feel like such a careless person in comparison.. at least when trying explain a thought or rationale
thanks :)
Ive never seen a heart shaped pot before, thats so cute! ❤
Happy Tuesday everybody!
Hope you all have a wonderful day :)
Your smile is looking extra bright today!

Just adore you and your videos!
I don't think I will ever be vegan just because of cheese and eggs, lol. But I'm trying to eat much more veggies, which is weird because I love them, guess I have to amp my cooking game!
"Dude, I follow a vegan diet, whatevs"😂😂😂 Love it
lol!
I stopped eating so many veggies cause it was killing me. Amazing how clueless we are
You might want to read or watch the vids on The Cheese Trap by Dr. Neal Barnard--really illuminating I think. I was the same, thought I could never give up dairy (butter in my case), so I remained vegetarian not vegan for years and years; when I finally decided, it was pretty easy (similar to what Dr. Dray was saying). The health effects are amazing--a bonus!
yay! Another video! I’m not vegan but I love vegan food!
Thanks for watching!
Can you talk about your thoughts on animal testing ? I am vegan, but in my country it becomes very difficult to remain cruelty free, because I have mild rosacea , and all the cruelty free products available here contain essential oils. Very frustrating.
I've been getting Sun Basket for about 6 months now. Love it! I've made so many vegan meals I would have never tried otherwise.
really good!
Food looks good 🥢 interesting with the apple 🍎 added in for some crunch.. Enjoy!! Thanks for sharing your story :-)
I’ve been learning to cook tofu. Never cared for it but I’ve learned some tricks from UA-cam & I actually like it now.
Now I'm hungry.
those buddhist cafes are gold!
Alarms at times can be an omen.
I think if we had a Costco or Whole Foods here, I would be finding more variety in my veggies and healthier foods.
Diane Evans Happy Tuesday Evening!! Hope you have a Great one!!
@@jackiemarsh2470 Thank you Jackie! 😁
That looks delicious. I love soba noodles. I'm definitely going to make that!
It was really good
I'm like you, I Contemplated being vegan for years, even though I never ate a lot of meat or dairy (I'm lactose intolerant).
@@DrDrayzday I'm glad you responded to this. Well said.
@@DrDrayzday as an RD, I couldn't agree with you more, Dr. Dray!
Edit: I just wish that RDs were referred to more

Blahahahahaha!!!! "I wasn't cruetly free this morning." My favorite part -so funny!!
Thanks!
I loved hearing your story. I've been vegetarian for 16 years and vegan for 6 months. I feel amazing eating this way and actually have a more diverse diet as a vegan than before.
Who were some of the vegan you tubers you were following? I love seeing your recipes and getting inspired!
:)
Dark chocolate works!
Once nut milk chocolate becomes mainstream, it'll be easier for you ;)
I grew up in a place where animals are slaughtered out in the open and even as a child it felt wrong eating meat. I went vegetarian one I movie out of my parents and now I’m more plant based.
As a vegan student striving to be a dermatologist, I can’t stress how much of an inspiration you are to me! I love your content so much- it’s the highlight of my morning! I’m so glad to have found you xx 💕
Thanks for watching!
I have wanted to make seitan for awhile now. I understand you can make it with any legume, not just soy beans
In high school and college, eczema/perioral dermatitis was really painful and I would cry because I didn't know how to maintain the itchy skin besides cold water and irresponsibly not bring skin care products with me.
sunscreen (seriously, focus on that, it is really all that matters)
Cute Dutch oven!
thanks!
Mystic Fox I know right?
Are you looking for the word Greenhouse Gasses?
yes!
You have a lovely channel!:) I haven't watched any videos yet, but looked at the topics and loved them! So subbed to you!:)
Positive Karolina aww thank you so much! Let me know what you think? ❤️
That's weird. Most people I know that have gone on a vegan diet improved their acne. I wonder what was the culprit....
@@slategrayy I will comment once I watch the videos! :)
Mary Karen Really? I’ve met lots of people that have had the opposite 🙈🙈 Mine was due to the amount of fruit (sugar) I was eating xx
I love that pink heart shaped pot
thanks!
That’s the cutest frickin cooking pot i think I’ve ever seen 💖

Please could you review some products from the brand Purito? I've been seeing a lot of their products lately and they seems to be really good, especially their sunscreen! :)
Great video! Loved the part when you were talking and you mindlessly are moving the tofu around :) Have you tried other meal subscription boxes?

Your honesty & easy-going attitude is refreshing!
I went vegan a few years ago but I didn’t fair very well. But everyone is different ! 🤷♀️
You're awesome, Dr. Dray! Thank you for sharing. I am not sure I'll ever be Vegan, but I am eating more veggies b/c of the air fryer you recommended 👍
