Currently using the Oticon zircon Zircon MiniRiTE. I could not be happier, the amount of hearing it's given me. I have come to hate taking them out and remembering just what I've been missing. I can not thank this channel enough for all the information it's given me and the push it's given me to get hearing aids. i owe this channel a debt of gratitude I will never be able to repay. From the bottom of my heart thank you all.
I'm an audiologist. I've fit all brands, I rely mostly on Oticon and Phonak. I too have fit many Intents in the last year and found this video very helpful. I really like how he is very honest and transparent... the + or - 1dB calibration for the receivers made me ask more questions than feel any sort of relief. I'll be back for more content :)
Hey BigRed! What a great message to read! Thanks for the positive affirmation and if there’s ever anything that you think I’ve missed please let me know in the comments for everyone to benefit from! Happy New Year! Matthew
I'm in the UK and going to have a hearing check on the 3rd of January. I've been researching many hearing aids online and also speaking to friends who use them. I have a friend who uses the Oticon Intent 2s, saying they are a game changer, so I'm leaning towards them. This was a very informative video, Mathew. Many thanks for the honest reviews.
Hey Gary, thanks for taking the time to comment. I'm glad the vids are doing the job that I intend them to do. I hope you get on well on the 3rd. Matthew
Wearing the Philips 9050 for several months now and they are the same as the Oticon Intent but at a lower price. The only issue I have is road noise while driving is really bad. even with one channel set up as "Automobile." The other three are General, HiFi, and Noise. I use the HiFi most always except around noise. Using the Philips TV adapter (same as the Oticon) works well for listening to TV through the hearing aids, and Philips has a promotion to give that free with purchase of the hearing aids.
I was waiting for this. Great detail review! Will you be doing a detail of the Phonak Infinio sphere and a comparison of both aids? I am up for a new pair of hearing aids.
I have been wearing the Oticon Intent for the past 5 weeks. I am new to hearing aid so I have no prior experience with other brands to compare them to. Currently, I am being treated for Tinnitus although it turns out that I have a slight hearing loss. Thus far, I like the Bluetooth connectivity to my iPhone and picking up calls by tapping my ear. I’ve had no problems with connecting. I usually wear them for an overage of 18 hours daily and charge them when I wake up in the middle of the night and they fully change within a couple of hours.
I've been using hearing aids for 20 years. I've been using Oticon's open2 for 6 years. I'm thinking of replacing my hearing aids now, so I listened to real2 and Intent1. I didn't feel much difference between real2 and my previous hearing aids. However, Intent1 has evolved into a hearing aid of a different dimension. It's still in testing, but it's one of the products I can recommend.
Thanks for this informative video on the Opticon Intent HA, very helpful. I was fitted with my first HA’s on 12/23/24, they are the intent 1 and I’m thrilled far beyond my expectations. Also, I’ve had zero issues with the app or Bluetooth connectivity with my iPhone 13 Pro.
I wear Oticon Intent. It is the first time I use hearing aids and I truly like them. I tried out Widex as well but chose Oticon as they provide better hearing for me. Everything you have said on this video is true especially the bad rap about their app. It is better than Widex and I have not had any problems connecting nor managing my hearing aids via the app. Appreciate your honest feedback and have subscribed for future updates. Thank you.
Wearing Widex Evoke. Going on 5 years now and am looking at new options. My audiologist seems to think that Widex is still the best option available. Will you be doing a video on Widex soon?
I will be upgrading my HA in September. I'm leaning toward the Phonak Sphere. But time will tell. My Lumity life sucks with double tap which I was forced to partially turn it off. My audio on phone calls is also distorted about 50% of the time and a years worth of complaints to Phonak has gotten me nowhere. That all said, the Sphere is a major upgrade and hearing in background remains a big issue. It will be Sphere vs. Intent I think.
I was new to hearing aids 14 months ago when I was prescribed them by the NHS in the UK. These are quite basic hearing aids but did help with my hearing. After a year I decided to buy some and after trying the Phonak and Oticon offerings I chose the Oticon Intent 1. I have been wearing them daily for almost 2 months. They are much better than the free NHS ones which you would expect. The Bluetooth connectivity to my iPhone and Apple Watch has been flawless although one tends to connect a second or two after the first but that isn’t an issue for me. I don’t use the app very much but when I have it has worked fine. Phone calls are great with them as is streaming of music although the sound quality isn’t as good as my Apple AirPods. I have to say I am not sure about their claims regarding speech in background noise such as restaurants or a noisy pub as I was expecting. I do notice the sound shift when I move my head some something is happening but I was expecting more background noise isolation. I am coming up to the end of the 60 day returns window and am unsure whether I am going to keep or return them and, if I do return, what I would replace them with.
I wear the Oticon More1. I’ve generally been satisfied with them, but they are my first HAs and so I really do not have much experience to judge them with. I did try a pair of Phonak before deciding on the Oticon. I am an avid cyclist and my audiologist was able to design a program setting that worked very well for muting wind noise, but allowed me to carry on a conversation with my riding buddies. He was unable to do the same with the Phonak. I recently trialed a pair of Phonak Audeo Sphere and was impressed with their speech in noise performance. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to try them while cycling.
@@HearingTracker Thank you, Matthew, for the videos you produce and your expertise that you share. The HA industry is a mess and your work makes it bit easier to navigate!
with the philips 9050, what is the difference in the app with noise and speech in noise. my costco fitter does'nt know nor does philips support. i like the sound quiality better than the jabras. i have no issues with bluetooth with I phone 13...also no problem with distance. almost covers my 2000 square foot home. can hear the aids while sitting outside by the pool. thanks for yopur reviews.
Can you do a similar video to Signia Pure Charge and Go 7 IX and TIX? I know you made one before but I would like to see what you experienced when fitting it to a lot more patients.
I have recently purchased the Oticon Intent 1 after also trialling the Phonak Infinio Sphere. I agree with everything Matthew has said in this video. I personally found little difference between the two devices in "Speech in Noise" situations. They both performed better than my previous Phonak Virto P90 IIC hearing aids (but neither were perfect). The deciding factor for me was the size and fit of the Intent 1 hearing aids. I am battling through the Bluetooth LE Audio issues with the Oticon Intent, having just purchased a Samsung Galaxy S24+ and I find the Bluetooth connection is stable and good quality. I'm now looking for a compatible laptop, which after testing various laptops in John Lewis and Currys, they are few and far between (but its only a matter of time before more laptops become compatible). As for the Oticon app, its fine. Maybe not as flexible and configurable as the Phonak Infinio Sphere but I find it simpler and easier to live with (I don't need to keep going into the app, I just leave the Oticon Intent to adjust itself to the situation I'm in). If you can overcome the size of the Phonak Infinio Sphere its probably a better all round package (e.g. bluetooth, app, charger etc), but it comes down to personal preference and I'm happy with my choice to go with the Oticon Intent 1 hearing aids.
Old school here: kirkland 9.0 4-5 years. I can always connect to my Moto G stylus 5G bilaterally. If I am streaming a movieor music from my tablet or phone I can choose to answer a phone call by long pressing a button on either aid and I will connect immediately if the phone is within 30 feet. The stream or video pauses while I am on the phone call and resumes once I hang up. What is the problem with these newer aids not being able to replicate this? I am sure my speech recognition and noise etc. are poorer than a new $$ set of aids but so far it seems one step forward and one step back. I have another six months on my kirkland warranty after they were buffed up. So, i am still on the fence. Thanks for the updates. Jim
I’ve used Oticon products for about 30 years. I’m quite happy with the Intent 1s, which I bought at the first opportunity after using Real 1s for 3+ years. The speech in noise feature was, at first, night and day against the Real. I’m now far less uncomfortable in group settings or at places like restaurants or concerts. At music events, I’m actually very pleased with live music reproduction at basic #1 setting. … I hate the app and rarely use it, preferring instead the buttons on the HAs.
I am currently wearing the Philips Hearlink 9050. Can you tell how these compare to the Oticon Intent? I am finding the BT connectivity to be excellent with my iPhone aespecially when streaming content and answering phone calls. There is a bit of lag opening the iPhone app and accessing the program selection in the Apple Watch.
I’m using Oticon Real and More before that. I’m probably like most people who stay with trusted brands. I’ve replaced my HAs for streaming TV and recorded music with Apple AirPods Pro for sound quality
I upgraded from the Oticon More 1 to the Real 1. You are right; there is little difference. They are good HAs, but I have enormous trouble hearing in restaurants and crowds. I think the Oticons are more effective with high-frequency loss, which I have, than the Phonak, which I previously wore. But I am now considering the Phonak Sphere due to its superior noise reduction.
Ive had the oticon intent 1 a month now. ive noticed that I really need to switch between presets to get the best audio to environments Not had any issues with bluetooth works very well on my iPhone 14 really comfy good audio and I notice a massive difference once I take out Negatives only on windy conditions when playing golf I take them out as I find playing to a decent level i find it a bit of a distraction
I started wearing the Oticon OPN S1 mini rite T in a CROS system. Just recently had to switch to BICROS so I’m considering an upgrade as background noise is even more of an issue. I love the idea of the Intent, but will likely go with the Real since the rechargeable option with the CROS PX use the same size charger (and then I have a backup pair for just in case moments). Which BICROS system have your clients been most pleased with?
I’ve been using Costco KS10 for 3.5 years. (I believe it is based on the Phonak Paradise P.90. Great sound quality and Bluetooth connectivity. ~ Rechargeable batteries not lasting now so need to replace soon. ~ Any recommendations?
Oticon definitely needs to work on upgrading their app. It’s not bad connecting to a phone but is having problems reconnecting with the iPad. I believe having good working hearing aids also to have a good working app.
I’m wearing the Phillips 9050 HAs which I find to be a great improvement in my hearing speech in noise. I’ve been told they are basically the oticon intent 1. So I guess I would also love the Oticons if I wanted to spend more money.

Great video! How does the Intent compare to the Infinio product in noisy environments? I've read that the Infinio is significantly better than the Intent in those type of environments.
Hello- I have a Costco close to me, and I wear hearing aids, so I go to Costco. Costco sells 3-4 different brands now. This fall, I am hoping to buy new hearing aids from Costco. Which one does the hearing specialist recommend for me? And, most importantly why! Hmmm... How would I know his pick is correct for me? Can you help sort this out?? I am wearing them right now and they are great. Bluetooth is vastly inferior to Phonak but sound quality is fantastic. Only issue on my part is have good low end but high end and i can hear the static noise. Will probably have to return them because of that.

I wear Jabra Enhance Pro 20 aids. Every once in awhile, when streaming from my tv streamer+ the right hearing aid will drop the stream. Easily fixed by turning off stream with the app then restarting it, but annoying nonetheless.
trying out right now both Starkey Edge + and Phonak Infinio Audeo Sphere. Results to date: Phonak bluetooth connectivity far better - to my Google Pixel 8 phone and my HP Spectre 360 laptop. Starkey cannot connect to the laptop - major bummer. Sound: Phonak drives me nuts, too loud (suspect setup defective), cannot satisfactorily reduce background noise without invoking sphere feature, which vastly reduces battery life. Also has a retention echo, as tho in a tin can, which is very irritating. Starkey's clarity also needs improvement, tho it is better. The Edge feature, the highly touted DNN, is questionable - unsure how much it actually helps. In sum, if my audiologist cannot improve the Phonak sound, it it going back. That may also be true of the Edge, with marginal sound quality and disappointing bluebooth connectivity.
I don’t know when you recorded this video, but I’ve been fitting Starkey hearing aids with Auracast for a month or more. They are also proving very successful in reducing background noise. 41-51 hour battery life! ( the longest available) Waterproof too! Regarding the amount of Oticon hearing aids are in use, the majority of free NHS aids are Oticon. Much older technology, I believe that Engage is OPN 2. Oticon Intent is an excellent hearing aid & I highly recommend them.
Oticon definitely needs to work on upgrading their app. It’s not bad connecting to a phone but is having problems reconnecting with the iPad. I believe having good working hearing aids also to have a good working app.

I wish everyone thought in that way! Thanks for sharing. Matthew
I wear Intent 4
I don’t know when you recorded this video, but I’ve been fitting Starkey hearing aids with Auracast for a month or more.
They are also proving very successful in reducing background noise.
41-51 hour battery life! ( the longest available)
Waterproof too!
Regarding the amount of Oticon hearing aids are in use, the majority of free NHS aids are Oticon. Much older technology, I believe that Engage is OPN 2.
Oticon Intent is an excellent hearing aid & I highly recommend them.
...about 6 weeks ago Ray. You're comments would be better on the Starkey vid no? Matthew
@ the comment was about your Auracast statement and what you said about Starkey Edge. Hence my question about the date of filming.
Signia custom charge & go
Thanks for sharing DTV! Matthew
I wear Philips
Bernafon.
Unitron Moxi BR. 3+ yrs outdated.
Christ... Keep your hands still, will you? It's an engagement trick that you just don't need. You don't.
Nah, it's how I talk. Put some tape on the bottom of your screen. Matthew
@HearingTracker
OK. Sorry about that. Feels a bit fake I'm afraid. Once I noticed I could stop it. :)
No need to tape. I zoomed it. :^)
@ hahahah. Man if I could help it I would stop. Would look a little weird if I sat on my hands in the video 🤣
Oticon definitely needs to work on upgrading their app. It’s not bad connecting to a phone but is having problems reconnecting with the iPad. I believe having good working hearing aids also to have a good working app.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Jack. I agree. Matthew
I wear Jabra Enhance Pro 20 aids. Every once in awhile, when streaming from my tv streamer+ the right hearing aid will drop the stream. Easily fixed by turning off stream with the app then restarting it, but annoying nonetheless.
