DEATH TRAP 1969 Mustang!

- Maybe not a complete Death Trap, but this 1969 Mustang had some of the worst repair work done to it that I've ever seen! Not only were the repairs poor, but also unsafe in so many ways! But she's in good hands, we'll take care of it and get it back on the road, safely, in no time!

As a owner of a old mustang, this is a channel of information gold when it comes to working on the car
Happy to help! Never hesitate to ask!👍
Normally I hesitate before bagging out a PO's efforts; often they just did their best with what they had (which is what we all try to do). But there are times when their bone LAZINESS is the only explanation for what they have done. This is one of those times!
I had a ‘69 Grande back in high school in the early ‘70’s. Thoroughly enjoyed my ten years with that car.
I do like that 70's street mochine vibe
And the centerline wheel's look right
Completely agree, the 69/70s always looked tough with Centerlines!
Centerline’s suit it best with that black. Gives it a mean look.
Thanks for the multitude of vantage points and angles!
I'm resurrecting a 1969 Coupe shell thats been under a tree since 1978-ish. Slowly but surely gathering parts.
it's 54 years old, you should thank the mustang gods to be blessed with such a car
I vote centerline! Those wheels look great 👍 nice Coupe 👌
Each of us 4 brothers have owned Mustangs -me a 65 GT 2+2, #2 a 69 coupe 351 blueprinted w/Ford 4 spd top loader (clocked at 150 by CHP), #3 a 74 Mach 1 w/2800 V6/4 spd, and #4 a 70 coupe 302 C4. Dad had a 65 coupe 6 cyl auto.
My 68’ Mustang had a “dead body in the trunk” sound that I never ever found the cause of, so I am laughing my ass off looking at this one!!! I am going with the 69’ FMX with the 351 Windsor. She’s a roller. My man asked me 2 days ago what’s my dream ride… I said I wanted the 72’ with Windsor. In Wheel & Deals on pg.11 there’s the 69’! THAT’LL DO PIG, THAT’LL DO❤
Centerline for sure!!my vote,snookie pa.👍💥
Completely agree, and that’s what we ended up going with! Just toughened the whole look of the car, wait till you see it with the chin spoiler on😍👌
Just got a 1969 coupe seeing some points underneath to check on mine. Looks mostly solid though. Helpful vid fellas
my vote is for the gt wheels. thumbs up
I liked that mustang
It looked like you had reasonable access to the shifter linkage. I have a ‘70 with a 351 and a C6 trans and I cannot get anywhere near my linkage without removing the exhaust.
You have a nice car there, good job.
Thank you! That’s Interesting, I’ll have to look at dads 70, didn’t think it was much different.
@@Theoldcarchannel.
It may be the C6 is bigger or my 2 1/2 inch pipes, but I can only reach the nut that holds the kick down and shift link in place. I’ve been trying to replace the grommet at the rod and shift link on the case for ages, if I move it to D1 I can get a finger on it but that’s all.
Lovin' the old Mustangs. The '69 has a great stance. The notchback body style has a really different but cool look. '68 Mustang fastback, 390FE, 4-barrel, 4-speed is my dream car. Have rode and driven a couple of them and they're fantastic. Had a chance to buy a mint one back in '72 when I was 17 but I had a limited amount of cash and the guy wouldn't come down to my price. Look forward to seeing more. What part of Ontario are you in? I'm in Penetanguishene up on Georgian Bay. Lived in Scarborough, King City/Aurora and Barrie before we moved here. Be safe and stay well.
No doubt those wheels look retro as hell. Who needs cooler brakes anyway? It's meant to go. Not stop. LOL
Aluminum is a heat sink....these run no hotter than a steel wheel
i like the gt wheels more with the lowered springs
Awesome video
Love those, had a gold 70 Grande myself!
Sellers on CL will want a ton and talk up cars like this. Been through more hands than a donut factory
Getting underneath the car, dash will tell you what youre really buying. This is what gets rid of my itch to sell and buy something different. Be happy with what ya got.
Like the early 70s coupes, nice lines to them. And Im a hard core camaro guy lol
Great job on the Mustang !!
Thanks Paul, lots more to come on it!
love that 69 mustang you guys did a super job, great video
Thank you, but still lots more to come!
I like that stance that it has. Maybe the back end could go down about a half to one inch more. Definitely looks like the good Lord was watching out for y'all got y'all home before it ran out of gas LOL. God bless
Yeah the stance settled down some after the drive, was pretty happy with it as it suited the look/era of the car.
Most definitely, glad we didn’t have to push! God bless
You guys are going to get tired of the tires rubbing constantly on the fender lips... remove the lowering blocks out of the rear suspension or at least reduce them to 1". If you replace the shocks, go with quality adjustables. If you leave the front suspension stock, go for a 1 1/8" anti-sway bar - it'll make a world of difference in the handling. I've BT & DT several decades ago. Best wishes! 👍🏻👨🏻🔧🇺🇸
- Max Giganteum
@@MaxGiganteum all good, rolled the quarter and fender lips. As for the sway bar that’s a typical upgrade I do to all my builds (2 of my mustangs and the comet have that)
I love this car 😁 nice bit of tidying up there guys 👌🏾
It’s a cool ride, I think the centerlines with lowered stance really set it off! Next video is a major tidy up job!!! Stay tuned!
@@Theoldcarchannel. totaly agree ! Looking forward to it
Hey Michael! It's Mercedes Anthony :-) I like this car. You mentioned what I was thinking that it would be a good candidate for Power Tour.
Hey Anthony! Hope all is well! Yeah after the repairs the car was tight and would be great for a show like power tour. Where about did you say you were in Florida?
@@Theoldcarchannel. I'm in North Fort Lauderdale close to Pomano Beach. Coming down?
@@anthonymanganaro9942 ok, yeah girlfriend and I will be coming down for a couple weeks. Delray Beach area
@@Theoldcarchannel. Very close brother. Let's meet up at Johnnie Brown's 🙂
still enjoying the relatively new concrete!!
Oh yeah, can’t beat it!
Nice work guys. What size tires are you running?
Do a 69 Boss 429 build in that body, only saw 1 in a magazine, that would be my dream car!
The Centerline wheels are nicer. Just a disclaimer. Not all of us car people from Nazifornia do shoddy work like what was performed here. Sheesh!! Lol
I like the video already I just want to 65 Chevelle Super Sport283 automatic SS stood for salt shaker cuz it was so incredibly Rusty it wasn't funny the driver's seat eventually fell through the floor it was rough and unsafe at any speed have a great day
Great save for this one. Question, was this one found on kijiji? There was one just like this listed for sale for a LONG time out my way in Kawartha Lakes area.
We had it listed on Kijiji, but was not listed out that way
If only you could get some better looking center caps for your factory wheels
Good video but you obviously filmed it in the summer and not last week. I guess I'm still wondering why the big dead spell with no new videos on your channel? I love that you work with your Dad. His little comments on this car were cool. Great stuff.
You are correct (although we’ve had a mild winter so far). Trying to do my best to put the videos out in order. There will be a video explaining the big break after a couple series
Nice driver. What is the Shelby drop your dad was talking about?🤔
Thank you, it’s when you relocate the upper control arm 1” down (or 1 inch down and an 1/8 back on the earlier mustangs). It improves the geometry/tire contact patch for better handling
dodgey bros engineering
it's quality with a K
I saw the title ( I bought a Death Trap, )
When I saw what the car it was , i said ,
Yep ,you did.
😆
Shock towers..first and foremost!
Patchwork over that thin sheet metal isn't going to get it. EVERYTHING hinges off those; front suspension, steering, motor mounts. You either swap 'em out for beefier Boss, big block style (almost impossible to find), or eliminate them altogether.
Am I wrong??
It's one thing to do some jankie Derek Bieri style MacGyver work to get home in a pinch, but you just do not leave it that way.
Totally agree, to know that someone thought the car was ok to drive (licensed on the road before we owned it) is scary😅 can only imagine how sketchy some cars are out there
@@Theoldcarchannel. I worked at a couple of Ford Garage's back in the 70's and saw things that still give me nightmares. Especially having gone out in the Wrecker/Tow Truck with my Father back in the 1960's as a young boy and seeing the aftermath of some very stupid decisions. I saw things before the age of 10 that no person should ever have to see.
Nice project, it would be boring if everything was perfect :- )
Thank you, idk… it would be nice to have one car that just doesn’t need anything for once
Can I have it
great video ,, but youre fake air intakes are backwards !! lol.
Thank you, what are the fake air intakes?
@@Theoldcarchannel. there in front of youre rear wheels.. they were fake and not working on these cars. kind of plastik intakes with no holes in them to cool the rear brakes !! but youres are on the wrong sides ... lol .. The air has to scooped up in front and cool the brakes. ! so now on youre car there backwards ..
@@klupeeteable not backwards, that’s how 69s were
Would you sell it for 11 grand
No, already sold
Sell it to me, please please please!!
Already gone, new owner is happy with it
Be interesting to see this car revisited in the future (say, 20 year from now) by someone who has more advanced tools, parts and techniques laughing at the work you are doing now.
Nothing to laugh about really, basically back to stock form
