- How much faster is a chip tuning box compared to the standard BMW Diesel?? We test our BMW 435D Convertible with and without a chip tuning box to find the cars true performance gain from 0-60 and 30-60 using the Draggy App and time measuring device.
How much faster is a BMW 435d X-Drive with a chip tuning system installed? We head out for a road test to find out. The chip tuning system improved the speed and power of the BMW 435d, making the 0-60 time half a second quicker. The 0 to 60 time could have been improved on even more, but we wanted to replicate a real world test, so we had a full tank of fuel and baby seats in the back.

Good real world test lads. I'm in my 30's now so 0-60 doesn't interest me. 30-60 for overtaking is key for me. (When it's safe of course)
I'm 27 and would totally agree with you; 0-60 is pretty fun but, real world I'd rather have the overtaking power instead. Still debating on the TDI Tuning box over a remap on my new 435d.
@@a20axf 0-60 will soon be a thing of the past I feel, now that Nissan Leafs are doing 0-60 quicker than most 3 series.
Rok Gok good point! I certainly wouldn’t want one of those no matter how good the acceleration is. I like my big dinosaur burning engines 👌🏻 I can’t deny how good electric cars are getting but, just not for me thanks.

Ricky installed a tdi tuning on his M4 box aswell and there was a massive difference, and best thing about it is that it does not affect the warranty of the car.

I tuned my work truck, its not a race car so i cant tell if the car is significantly faster, but i did get a lot more low end torque, wich is great for accelarating. Tuning is not bullshit
Had one of your tunning box for the past 6 months for my 435d, it keeps on causing engine lights issues ( drive chain ) , once I took it off no issues what so ever , caused a lot of inconvenience by going in and out

It's either chip tuning (includes remap, flashing, obd tuning etc.) or tuning box (=cheat box). Please don't mix them!
All I say is, if you buy this and it works well for you, do your most in keeping it dry and away from moisture as a defective unit can cause any amount of issues. If you feel it dosnt work for you, get that refund ASAP! It should be a noticeable difference in power, if it isnt but you think there might be but unsure, get a refund as its not worth it.
Had these for 20 years on a multitude of cars and done hundreds of thousands of miles.
Always work, never had a fault.
If you think they dont work then educate yourself before commenting a negative
Had one of the CRTD4 boxes fitted to a Golf 1.6 TDI for nearly 2 years. Great piece of kit but it has its pros and cons. Pros: definite performance increase, overall the car felt quicker. Power was delivered more around the mid-high range. Didn't change the annoying turbo lag however. The cons: roughly after 5k+ miles with the box fitted, the car started to judder at low RPMs which would stop after the car warmed up and there would sometimes be a rattling sound coming from the engine, which was more noticeable going up steep hills. I got the box looked at but the issues still prevailed.
I can't fault TDI Tuning's customer service, the people there are great and I had no trouble with warranty claims or getting the above issues looked at, usually on short notice as well. Despite the performance increase and good service, the above issues left a bad taste so I think for my new car I'll be going down the ECU remap route.
Just be aware if your reflashed car goes in for a dealer update you can lose your performance tune. Happened to a mate when Ford did service update on turbo diesel!
@@paulcolmer9046 you're right mate, pros and cons with tuning your vehicle, and that certainly is a con. However I have been told by a few mates of mine with remapped cars that you can refuse software updates during servicing, but there's no guarantee to that!
@@paulcolmer9046 your absolutely right in terms of a ECU Remap/Flash, however with a tuning box you can unplug and remove the box and no matter what updates the dealership does to your cars software you can simply reinstall the tuning box straight after. Our policy at TDI-Tuning is that if the software update from the manufacture is a major significant one which effects the performance relationship between our tuning system and car then we offer a full reprogram FREE of charge. So what was causing the low RPM judder? How did you fix it?
I’m 46 and 0-60 still interest me because I’m a speed freak, that’s the reason why I decided to purchase the TDI box and to be honest I’m very suprised , I didn’t expect it to be as affective but it is , it makes a big difference! On setting 6 and 7 the car pulls much harder ! Specially in mid range rpm, the turbo also kicks in earlier. I’m honestly surprised how well made this tuning box is , these guys really know what their doing. When you can back up the claim behind your product you’ll grow and be in Business for a long time.
Tuning boxes, one of the biggest scams going! It is just fooling fuel sensors and turbo sensors to inject more fuel and increase boost. Bodging at its best...

I’ve had a 335d before if you don’t let the revs build up on launch control and release the brake too early it can really effect the launch. Seemed comparing the two the first launch was slower because the revs weren’t built up as much but saying that I’ve had a chip before and seemed to do a little better although not sure if it was my mind playing tricks
I noticed that as well. No launch control first run and full launch control 2nd. Very staged video in their favor

The convertible really takes its toll on the timing. the 330D X Drive Saloon can do 0-60 in 5.1 stock!

Numerous videos online of the regular 435d coupe hitting the claimed factory figure of 4.7 secs
This had two people in the car, baby seat and probably cold tyres
Plus the fact the convertible is o-60mph in 5.2 sec due to weight & the coupes are 4.7 on paper
I installed one to my Kia Ceed 1.6 diesel 66reg. definately can feel more power but turbo lag is even bigger than before :(

Hi Dunai, your warranty will remain intact. Once the TDI-Tuning Box is removed from the engine bay it leaves no digital or physical trace behind. This is a convertible so heavier than normal coupe which does 0-60 under 5 seconds standard. My own 435d has remap and intercooler is rr tested at 410bhp goes very well
Got a mate who has a 2015 335d x drive performance package
With a stage 2.re map.and a.bmw approved intercooler and lines on dyno he got 359 BHP

Marc Judge oh really that’s a very low bhp output. Mine ran 390 bhp stage one. Then With Wagner intercooler and stage two map 410 bhp. And more torque. My dpf is still in car. I used Tc Tuning near Heathrow. Say you spoke to lee with the blue 435d. He knows me and is helpful guy.
Marc Judge in fact on Fb forum most guys with stage one 35d engines get from low end around 370 to 385. Some are stronger than others depends on age and care of engine through its life

Does the tuning box cause long term damage to the engine?
Our Tuning Box has been through rigorous testing and our customers have covered well over 1 million miles with our systems on the car.
They do not alter the settings in the ECU, this means the manufacturer is still in control of all the safety settings and protocols.
We also never take the power output past maximum tolerances of internal components of the engine.
What chippy boxes are doing, they mislead car computer "telling" it that fuel is warmer (less dense) than it actually is so ECU request higher amount of fuel to be injected. In common rail diesel it is very efficient. In my 2.0 D4D I got 6-7 better mpg overall and really some power up, didn't measure but 0-60 is better for about 1 second.

All tuning boxes will eventually destroy the Injectors. This is due to over pressurising the system, its high enough normally but just think adding 20-30% more PSI. Your best bet is to find a person who can stick a tried and tested map on it the maps on idle aren't over fueling. When you accelerate the map kicks in so high pressure hits when the engine is geared to use the high pressure unlike a tuning box which all it does is tell the ECU that theres not enough pressure.
Ive had both tuning box eats more fuel over pressurises so the TDI gets more of a kick. Injectors ruined.
Chip/flash, car works as before only when called upon you feel the difference.
Chip tuning for a ford mondeo mk4 2.0 tdci 163 £170.

Boxes are shit get a proper ecu remap, all a box does it send incorrect voltages from your sensors to the engines ecu and tricks it causing over fueling and over boosting etc. Not great imo! Get it done right if your going to do it!
Daniel Roberts you need to update your knowledge about tuning cuz your talking out of your ass. Tuning boxes do work specially the ones that are designed specifically for your engine, not the cheap ones you buy on eBay, if you don’t know how to do a proper remap you can demand your cars engine even more Which happens to a lot of people
For the price of these boxes a really don’t see the benefits over a proper custom remap?. Before someone says warranty BOTH these boxes and a remap can be detected

TDI Tuning Ltd trying telling a main dealer this when an issue happens because I.e to much pressure on rail or injectors. They invest 100s of millions in tech you really think they can’t tell someone has played with something?, if they want to worm out of a warranty claim they will search everything

Isn’t this just a throttle response controller?
No, our tuning box optimises sensor readings before they get to the ECU. We do also sell a Pedalbox, that will control throttle sensitivity.
Mine 435D does in 4.4s 0-60 mph stock, no box. Bmw claimed 4.4s
convertible is slower. But it still does 5s 0-60mph.
I can believe that, my 330d xdrive does 0-60mph in 5s dead and with a stage 1 I would expect below 4.5s.
@@nayabmasud424 Yes it would. You basically have a 335d when you tune a 330d. Only difference is you get a tiny bit of turbo lag at the bottom end. The 335d is twin turbo so no gaps in power.
@randumz randumz 5.35sec to 60 is spot on with a full tank of fuel and 2 people up, what are you on ? You sound to me like you have never had a turbo car tuned. It is an instant and noticeable difference.

Can you use a powerbox as a extra if your car is already remapped?
Hi Rasheed, I'm afraid not. With a tuning box or remap it's either one or the other.
That's sad, because me Mercedes E class 220CDI from 2007, W211 chassis, is remapped to 200hp and 505 newton meters, but my throttle response is lazy when you shifting aggressively to a other gear.
Some delay before it goes when your foot is hard down. It is a manual 6 speed diesel.
I tought that with a remap, that delay goes away.

Yes you can do both I have a Passat 1.9 tdi hybrid turbo remapped and a £20 eBay resistor mod thing defo felt the extra few bhp after putting shitty box back on I've owned this car 6 month I took of the box 3 days after getting the car due to it drinking like a petrol but put it back on as I got used to the power and wanted a lil more. I've owned all tdi's a3 mk1 ,mk4 golf ,mk5 golf ,skoda Octivia mk1, 2x Passat b5(3gb) I do timing belts and head rebuilds on my drive way. In essence the £20 box is that but extra remappers don't put on to not mess up there warranty as it only puts in more fuel,basically the pd130 can be remapped to 190 at your own risk 160-170 they give you a warranty. Bypassing the IC and deleting the oil cooler is safe in fact when going hard in the Passat or Octivia the temp would go down to 75c or clamping the release valve for the turbo actuator is twice as much fun just don't rev past 3k or it Will go BANG 100% don't try it on anything you care about that was the a3 the rest are still alive lol a remap is just a emissions tune down delete. As for your 220 CDI change the maf sensor.
Do this on a 20d 177, then I'll be impressed if it actually makes a difference.
You can make something like this yourself. Diesel engines respond very well to more fuel. If its a richer mixture you are after then try the potentiometer trick. There are alot more parameters that are changed when a remap is done.
Does it make the car actually more fuel efficient? Have you seen the price of fuel lately I appreciate it’s a little faster
With diesel cars typically our customers see much better fuel consumption compared to not having the tuning box on, petrol engines however don't see too much more improvement and like everything in life with great power comes great responsibility. This car gets to 60 in 4.7 stock, how did you get 5.6s?
Proving real world tests are important! 2 people, full tank of fuel in warm conditions gave those figures, turn on the turning box and we got somewhere close to what the manufacturer claimed in laboratory conditions.

The 435D convertible is rated to 62MPH in 5.2s (bmw.co.uk) so it is not a 4.7s to 60 car stock. Why discuss the coupe when they're clearly testing the convertible?
Answer to the title question is,it depends how many people you have in the car?in this case you had 2 adults!

@@Rickbearcat Dragy uses high speed GPS satellites to accurately measure your vehicles performance within 1/100th of a second. It only counts verified runs, we aren't advertising for them, but they are well known in the automotive industry.

@@tdi_tuning ...Your insistence on using Dragy to verify your claims is very telling and shows a real reluctance on your part and the companies part to not want other verification methodologies taking precedence over your testing the claims that you make (or manufactured claims for that matter).
Can you help me with anything else? Yes. Send me empirical 3rd party data proving your claims using data logging equipment that has nothing to do with Dragy and in different environments under different conditions.

Even faster without convertible roof
Gareth Hill if you mean with the convertible roof down, you are incorrect. My Roadster is slower and uses way more fuel with the roof down due the fact that the aerodynamics without the roof and absolute garbage.

We did not use launch control in any of the tests.
So that's why the times are different from other tests. With launch control, the car needs maybe 4,3 seconds 0-60

BMW test the cars with only one person in the cars.
Freddy Brainy the weight of one person about 150 pounds makes a lot of difference in the zero to 60 as its additional weight
They most likely also bring up the rpms BEFORE letting off the brake

And manufacturers also do crash starts for testing purposes. They don't go easy on the clutch and pull away in a civilised manner.

A remap isn't traceless though.
A remap is great for the power junkie running things to the limit.
Normal folk use these boxes for better power and fuel efficiency within safe limits.
I can take my box off if the car goes to the dealers and I can save a bundle putting it on my next car.

Not everyone is after ultimate power. I buy mine for fuel efficiency where an at the limits remap would be counter productive and an economy focussed remap is no different to these boxes except us with new cars can take the box off when the car goes to the dealers or move to our next car for a fraction of the cost of another remap

No men? At 4:00 How could you drive with petrol in tank ( and baby seat). You should drive with ZERO petrol in tank. It will make it faster. And wash it before EACH test. Any dust adds extra weight
