If this doesn't completely destroy any other YT video...ever....I don't know what will. 3 guys jamming on a theremin ....backwards...with their heads...beast mode!!!!
Guys, if a blue wale hears this thing being played, It might come to mate with ya!😂😂😂 Top video as always from the channel that not only helped me choose the best digital piano I could buy, but also advance in learning it. All the best to you always!
It looks like you guys had quite some fun, but it must be said the theremin here is not really functioning like it should to be musically playable, the zero beat point is way too close to the pitch antenna and so you were playing the field outside the zero beat, hence it is reversed and very non-linear. It sounds like it was not grounded properly and/or the pitch field calibration was way off. But you demonstrate well that even someone who is completely theremin-naive can have lots of fun with how it sonifies one's movements. At some point Leon Theremin was working on an instrument, the terpsitone, a platform with some sort antenna above it, that would sonify a dancer's moves, and a regular theremin can als translate movements of the body into sound as you guys found out for yourselves. There are plenty tutorials around how to properly calibrate, tune and play the theremin as a proper musical instrument, for that look up Carolina Eyck's and/or Kip Rosser's YT channel(s).
Exactly. Also all of them seemed to play with zombie hands, arms extended completely and holding them up high. It's quite awkward that way and easier to control if you move your hand/arm from your body towards the antenna. But I guess they are all beginners without any teaching.
i have perfect pitch but certainly not on the theramin lol, after this i'm never going to own one, where would you put it? at the bottom of the stairs perhaps for your guests to play.
If it's for shits and giggles get a Open Theremin. For around 100 quid, some soldering, an Arduino and some set-up you're ready to go. (Just saw the newest version doesn't require an Arduino or soldering anymore, but the price has gone up a bit)
Check also Carolina Eyck, Clara Rockmore, Hyrtis Gladys Hulot, Thorwald Jørgensen, Rob Schwimmer, Giulia Riboli, Gilda Razani, Peter Theremin and Lydia Kavina.
awwww man I have always wanted a Theremin (even more so since I saw Joe Bonamassa play one with his guitar headstock!) I'm currently looking at the Etherwave's little brother, the Theremini, as it seems a bit more beginner friendly
i bought a cheap one off amazon and it does work well but i immediately knew id never master it. if you stick a load of reverb on it though and just randomly tweak it over a break beat you can make convincing trip hop all day long. also works nicely for dub reggae.
This makes me feel sorry for the Theremin. You should have read how to set the pitch antenna before you started! You had zero beat about 2 inches away from the antenna, then the pitch was in reverse! You were all playing in the reverse field! Yeah I know it was done for bit of fun, a very expensive bit of fun!
I remember Popular Electronics magazine (way back in the 60s) showed how to build one, but it seemed near impossible to make distinct notes with it as the sound is always 'on.'
This just made me appreciate how horrible this would sound and it would stay that way until you master it, which would be years and years, if ever. If it were about 300 quid I might get one for the mess around.
Theremin not set up properly, playing position wrong, just about everything you could do wrong, you did. Not a good advertisement for the company even if you did have a lot of fun mucking about. Certainly doesn’t give me any confidence that any instrument I bought from you would be set up correctly or that i would receive good advice about it. Nothing wrong with showing a bit of tomfoolery but it would have been a lot better seeing how it should be played properly so comparison could be made.

Very entertaining and enjoyable, could you hold the Friday Theremin sessions from now on? 🤣
Eventually drunk?:-)))
3:30 damn, it's already plugged in!
HAHAHA
Best video of them all. You need to do a theramin video once a week.
Guys, do you need a theremin lesson? I’m about 8minutes in and you haven’t even tuned it 😂
You’re playing it backwards 🤦♂️
@@Damianhealy who gives a shit, they’re having fun

OK ... fun it was .... BUT ... i do guess it does need a lot of training/practice to get somewhere in the ballpark ... 🤣
Thanks for sharing👍
holy shit good call on the knights of cydonia! I would have a real struggle with that one because it's not that well known in regular circles lol

Ah that explains it. I couldn't work out why the pitch seemed inverted
It helps a lot if you have perfect pitch.

This is hilarious! Anti-depressant LOL!
Awesome thank you, your video was so helpful I’ve just bought a second hand Moog Etherwave 😊
And yes...alien contact has been made straight away!
Given...love to get one too...please...Moog...
And outro track name is.... Police form Hell. Great video guys :)
Ornithologists will love this video

I've always wanted to try one out
This and the All about the Bass section are the best music series on UA-cam
Hah - this was fun... Bill Bailey is a master at the Theramin.

Funny video ! The documental movie of Leon Theremin is amazing… Bob was there … totally recommended… you gotta be a human tuner to play it though
I really don't want to hear myself using this thing when I see professional musicians groove like that
It's expensive in spite of its simple look. I want one lol

I WANT !!!
Jimmy page used to play one live as well
12:56 playing the Therebel
hey, does the stand comes with it and do you need it ?
Aren't you all playing from the wrong side? You should be playing over the centre part I think
Imagine if they made a smaller version, would it be the Theremini?
*Mic drops*
they do, and it is...
Yup already exists lol
YUP ... and if i would "play" it, it would become the TerrorMini 🥳
You missed out on Jimmy Page and The Beach Boys good vibration!
Sniffing the poster.... ROFLOL
Thank you - like a cute kid fun but got really irritating fast ;)

There needs to be a mic behind the camera if there is going to be a lot of back and forth dialog.
Dolphins.
Lol
That Harry Potter tune was definitely off.

😆❤️👍🔥
Is that the guy from Money Heist ?
Ear training urgent! 🤣🤣🤣
This is a very muse sound lmao
This just made me appreciate how horrible this would sound and it would stay that way until you master it, which would be years and years, if ever. If it were about 300 quid I might get one for the mess around.
Jack, it's tuned wrong. if you get further and the pitch gets higher, it's out of tune, should be the other way aroud
Isn't that a white [REDACTED] 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I would be much happier with the re-release of Moog Voyager XL than with this idiotic toy...
100%
Not a toy. Rather a very precise instrument. Check out some of the masters at it.
I believe the theremin was Bob Moog’s favorite synth.
