The Octopus Project | Moog Etherwave

- To debut the new Etherwave Theremin, Austin-based electronica group The Octopus Project performs their original track “I Saw the Bright Shinies” in a performance filmed in the Moog Sound Lab.
In this performance, Etherwave Theremin takes the stage as both a lead instrument and a CV controller for the Moog Matriarch paraphonic semi-modular analog synth (as a creative way to play its filter). To complement the two distinct theremin applications you see and hear, multi-instrumentalists Yvonne Lambert, Spencer Stephenson, Toto Miranda, and Josh Lambert reimagine the 2007 song using vintage and modern Moog synthesizers: Moog One, Prodigy, Matriarch, Grandmother, Mother-32, DFAM, Subharmonicon.

I was never able to beat this level.
Pretty hip boss music.
Good thing it's not a competition then! Keep doing you I'm sure you're great! 🙂
@@EdrikPrinsMusic Think that was a video game joke
Might not beat this level, but I sure can level with this beat!
Just wonderful…you know that thing Bob Moog was describing when he talked about musicians making contact with the board? This is it. Right here.
Octopus Project needs to tour again. Seen them four times. Not enough. Some of the nicest people I’ve ever interacted with.
Some of the most masterful playing of a theremin I have ever seen. Such clean transitions from note to note. Not a single note is out of place or out of tune. Very very good.
everything is slightly out of tune & out of place, that's why it sounds human/good
yeah she misses it sometimes but that's kind of the point of the theremin in my ears. Still very very good though youre right
Beautifully filmed too.. Excellent color and light. Scenes composed with multiple musicians separated by focus but working together, etc.. Simple and not distracting from the performance!
I've watched this four times over the last week and cried every single time LOL. It's like I can feel the sounds inside my chest when I listen to it. My boyfriend said it sounds like what happens to a person after they die. It reminds me of the way I felt when I got my childhood dog. I ordered the theremini this weekend:)
i love this band so much.....early to mid-2000s they were such an important band in a formative part of my life and it's cool to see they're still amazing
Amazing production! I just love those cosmic theremin slides.
She smiles at the end...well done.
Sweet use of Theremin, for beautiful flowers of music.
Fun light show too.
This is brilliant! This is the first I've heard of Octopus Project and I'm now a fan!
This is terrrific...

Oh boy. Yeah dig in dude. They have so many awesome songs. I’ve seen them probably ten times. One of the best live shows. Great folks.
Check their split with Black Moth Super Rainbow!
I know them from a really long time. Have every vinyl too. Best band
An amazing performance especially on the Theremin.
It would be an interesting experiment to put Theremin inside a terrarium with a swarm of butterflies... :-)
Yvonne raises butterflies & has made videos of the butterflies playing her theremin!! ua-cam.com/video/TqdLhmDRFVI/v-deo.html
This literally brought tears to my eyes.
real artistic performance , she is mesmerising playing the instrument, kept me watching ….
I keep coming back here. I like it here.
Amazing. Mind-blowing theremin!
Watching this vid with my dear friend Kamal ❤ thank you
great comment! 🎉
I don’t know what to say other than Amazing. Wow. Thank you.
Moog synths, touchdesigner and The Octopus Project, such a lovely mix!
YES! The Octopus Project RULES!!!
Miss you guys
I need this in my life! I’ve no idea what I’d do with it, and I’d make it sound awful. But I NEED one!!
With the amount of times I've listened to this song over the past decade, it's an absolute treat to see this.
I never heard of Theramin before Mary on Storage Wars found one in a locker today. Now I am hooked
Love the Octopus Project. Absolutely mesmerizing, as always!
It must suck to have access to all of that Moog gear... Some people wish they were rich so they can buy Gucci, Fendi, a Lambo or a Ferrari, but I wish I was rich so I could buy Moog gear.
The grandmother is actually not that expensive for the sound quality and interface experience it gives I've come to realize.
Love Octopus Project! Nice to hear them doing more stuff.
This just took me back to a different time in my life, thank you
Very tasteful. I love the calm efforts being exerted here to get that great theremin sound just right 😎
Great band with an amazing thereminist - all notes are played perfectly well and that's never an easy thing to do when it comes to plucking notes from the thin air.
So sick 💯
New favorite song thanks Spotify!
This is my third time in a row watching this. Beautiful and utterly hypnotic.
Awesome. Have the Matriarch, the Minitaur, and the Lil Phatty. Bring back the Taurus!!!
Brian Wilson used an early model on Good Vibrations in 1966. When you can make it sound like group singing it is so cool.
goddamn this is beautiful in several ways
Oh man, this brings back memories. I haven't seen them live in like a decade!
Very great Electronic Music and Sounds
so good
I remember being a teenager and getting into electronic stuff with StarFucker and Black Moth super Rainbow, etc. Then I went to see Strfkr at grog shop in Cleveland around 2009-10ish?! And octopus opened up for them and me and my friends were ABSOLUTLY FUCKING MERZERMIZED🥲
I'm loving it 😍🤩
Several years ago I caught wind of a Theremin concert that was coming to town. The town just happened to be where I i live,.
Los Angeles. And the concert was really actually more of an orchestra. An orchestra of 135 Theremins,. with 135 thereminists (I made that term up, what else would they called?) Playing all those Theremins -- All together, on the same stage, with a conductor dude waving his conductor's wand,. Keeping everything + everyone on point.
So yeah,. The date was killer. She was blown away, that concert hall is amazing. The architecture is --- well, very Curvy. The interior where the stage is unreal.
So when I saw the notice for this in some "cool stuff to do in LA" article. I thought. Oh man,. This would be a perfect date kinda thing to do... In hindsight it was a cool experience, but not something I'd do again as a first or 2nd date. First & 2nd dates need to be something that shows the person you've invited out that you are way cooler + way more clever than they ever expected. You don't do that going to see a movie, or going to Katsuya... You do that by doing some stuff she (or he) never experienced before. And my thought was "this chick probably doesn't even know what a theremin is.." So taking her to a 135 piece theremin orchestra @ the Disney Concert Hall downtown. That'd probably be something she'd be telling her girlfriends about for at least a week or two afterwards 😉.
That first date was back in 2009... Our son just turned 11 in March. 😀
Love it. Congrats.
Her pitch is crazy good!
So exciting to watch. Nothing beats a live band.
🙃
This song is high on my go-to list when grieving. Love this sound, please bring it to Atlanta!
Loved this song since I heard their daytrotter renditions over 10 years ago, so beautiful
This is so excellent! Thanks for making my day!
wow so beautiful. Good to hear about you guys !!!!!
Don't miss the album version of this song, with a second harmonizing theremin!
Absolute fantastic :)
Pure pleasure.
Excellent work you guys !
( great video also /
M
🌲 Awesome, perfect!!! 🤩⭐️
How awesome is this group, two Theremin players in the band and a handful of Moog synthesizers! 😎 😍 🎵
Beautiful 🚀💫✌
Love the Moog stuff I’ve got a theremini
I love this band
it moves me so much
Am I the only one who thinks of Clara Rockmore when seeing her? Beautiful Instrument!
Clara did not come to mind for me because of her playing style and lack of a silver lame hair wrap but it is a very fine complement to the artist indeed!
so cool, octopus project is just the best and this is the perfect environment for them to work their magic
Excellent! 👽👍
Thank you for making this. Love this song and miss this band. cheers x
I've never seen a human android playing so humanly.
This is my first time hearing the song and it honestly sounds so much better than the album version somehow
gorgeous, Octopus project never disappoints. Hope to see you live one day!
Wow. So good.
This is awesome 😎
That was so so sooo sick
Glorious
This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.
Nailed it 😊 I am guessing the new Etherwave is the old standard and the plus rolled into one now. I love mine .
Whaou!!! big performance 👍
Love the sounds, love the led panels in the background!
Her intonation is on point! Also love the effect the other theremin adds. I’m guessing that second one was controlling some other synth because it didn’t have that classic theremin tone.
The second one was the buzzing liquid bass sound. Haha not an electronic music fan I take it if you could miss that.
I see, Yes it would have been the rack or I would use minitaur bass synth live. Really easy to hit the sounds on that one.
Perfect execution on all fronts!
My favorite part is the "DO NOT UPDATE THE OS" on the recording computer lmao most PT thing ive ever witnessed
awesome stuff
Please, do some sort of behind the scenes doc for this! I love the sights, sounds, the set, and the lighting! Really groovy music!!
What a delightfully magical band 💜💜
This really makes me want to buy a theremin
I've been wanting to buy an eatherwave plus, please moog hurry the he'll up and start producing the new model
Super-Duper Fantastic!
wowww holy damn that was soooo good!!
The set feels like a 70s James Bond villain base.
So beautiful. Thank you
Perfect
Wow yes!
amazing!!
So good… Bob is smiling
So amazing! Thanks for the great music!!
Nice !!!!
Nice performance, very smooth ! She’s playong on a new theremin that looks totally revisited in the best way
I need a fretted theremin.
Cool!!
I would kill to see them tour the southeast. Such a wonderful group
A+
Awesome!!!
I wonder if they are going to make another album. It has been five years since the last one.
Glorious❗🎵🐵♥️💡✨🚀
That woman looks like an analog goddess, the way she plays that Theremin.
60s retro feel, nice gear too
