    Well I bought the Moog Theremini 2 weeks ago and love it . I found a Moog Etherwave standard like yours on line yesterday and should arrive this week. Music store said it's in mint condition and sounds fantastic. The stand is included . Can't wait to receive it. Love your video.

    I first got a Moog Theremini (which doesn't function correctly anymore), then an Etherwave Plus, and 2 years ago got a Subscope Voicematic (made in Germany to order) which since has become my "daily driver". A highly interesting developement is the D-Lev (kit), a digital theremin, but a really good one. The LostVolts (UK, Europe) and Burns (USA) theremins would be good as a first theremin on a lower budget, maybe less suited for gigging but good for learning and playing at home, maybe a little flimsy and less sturdy, but having quite a nice sound and as far as I've seen demonstrated playable as musical instrument, and not just usable for sound effects.

      how is the D-Lev compared to others?

    • @dread_rat
      @dread_rat 3 місяці тому +1

      @@jpjay1584 personally I haven't had a chance to play one myself, but I see a growing number of professional thereminists playing a D-Lev, and the range of voices/timbres as well as the linearity sound and look excellent. A very promising project that has already come a long way and surpasses the Moog Claravox as far as I can judge.

    Stumbled upon your channel and have a question: Is there a Theremin with CV outputs for both antennas? I have a modular synthesizer, and I'm currently intrigued by the idea of using a Theremin as a controller for it. The sounds and effects of the Theremin itself don't matter much to me for now. To my knowledge, most Theremins only have a CV output for the pitch antenna.

  • @Music_is_Breathing
    @Music_is_Breathing 2 місяці тому +1

    The Theremin is built exclusively in Asheville NC. Moog had chosen Asheville as it's main and only headquarters. I mention that because it's totally cool to have such an amazing instrument produced less than a hour from where I live.
    If you have never played a Theremin, get the Theremini first. Despite all the presets, it is very hard to play. You must have steady hands. I find I can best play Celtic songs, but I get frustrated trying to play anything else. However, it is a thousand times easier to play than a basic Theramin. Good luck and have fun!!!

    Hey, Caroline Scruggs,
    Thank you for this nice video, your enthusiasm is amazing, keep it up. I'm facing an issue with my current old Standard Etherwave (which I own for 3 years now), and I might have to look at a replacement. Something in the mainboard seems dead or dying. I've also looked at the Theremini. I've heard it's hard / impossible to play quick notes on it. Is that true? Would you be able to tell me more? Please note I haven't looked at all your videos yet, I just now discovered them. If you detail something along this in another video, a pointer to the right one would be appreciated.
    The fact you find the Claravox not so fun to play was a surprise, by the way. (I don't know it from experience. Shows how personal a good theremin is.)
    Thank you again, and keep the videos as fun as they are now.

      Hey Paul! Glad you stumbled across my videos, I hope they prove helpful to you. The theremini is my most recent addition to my theremins, and I truly was surprised at how much I love playing it. I haven't experienced what you mentioned of not being able to play quickly on it... it keeps up wonderfully, as long as my fingers are doing their job :) Really can't recommend it enough. You'll find links to that as well as my favorite gear throughout my videos. Hope this helps!

    Hi, Thanks for your very useful videos! I'm planning on buying a Theremin (most likely a Theremini thanks to your advice) but I feel that, as a left-handed person, I'll be more natural playing the pitch with my left hand and volume on the right hand. Are you aware of the existence of such a model?

    • @kriscoryn5202
      @kriscoryn5202 3 місяці тому

      @CarolineScruggs i have the same feeling as left handed person, i think for the theremini i found for a good price it should be easy turned
      but ok then my enviremented change so i have to calibrate the distance.
      have you founded one vianney ? and playing left handed or like me looking out.
      i was thinking building one because i'm in electronica but ok will not be the same like some here and the theremini has a build in amplifier so no pickup of strange signals in the sound

    If you only want to try if Theremin is the instrument for you, you can get an OpenTheremin for less than 1/3 of the cost.
    Some DIY required
    I have an older version that you had to solder yourself and pair to an Arduino board. None of that is required anymore.
    The limited use sofar wouldn't have justified the cost of a Theremini.
    And because of the small form factor of the OpenTheremin it is (not) gathering dust in a drawer.
