- Theremin meets Synchrocyclotron at CERN - the synchrocyclotron accelerating frequency is modulated by the variation of a capacitor, just like the pitch of a theremin. Dorit Chrysler performs a live variation of her composition "Avalanche" on a Moog Theremini and Moog Taurus at CERN in front of a synchrocyclotron 2016.

Hang out with musical nukes? perv!
😂🤣😂🤣😂😆....👍😁
The girl's going to bust a damn hole in the dimension!
sensual and dark...I love it
This has tobe the realest comment here!
This gave me chills. This is a new frontier of music - where no man has gone before.
So i just noticed this... She is on the back side of the theremin. Most instruments are "right handed", but looking at a theremin, I feel like its a left handed design if you compare it to a guitar, where the pitch on a right hand guitar is controlled with the left hand and volume is controlled with right hand.
It is a right-handed design, but Dorit is playing it left-handed by switching it around and having the controls face away from her. For most people, the pitch is controlled with the right hand/ volume with the left.
This music is out of this world! The Theremin is such a wonderful instrument, and Dorit Chrysler's performance is just incredible.
Oh shit, this is the coolest thing ever!
This is insanely good, could listen to her for hours.
Love it. This is way beyond nerdy - simply stunning!
El CERN descubrio una nueva particula despues de esto!
Yes, the addition of the Taurus makes it really come 'together'!
Thanks to that video, I was gifted with a Theremini...
Love it! Thanks for sharing this! I owned a Theremini and was never satisfied with what it could do by itself, but with the Taurus this sounds incredible. Very nice. Brava!
Absolutely phenomenal, literally.
Esecuzione da incanto, suoni profondi, plasmati con maestria ed eleganza in una location straordinaria! Veramente grazie!
❤ a fellow left-hand-style player ❤ beautiful!
hell yeah! backwards theremin gang!
this piece captured my soul indeed
you can have it Dorit
This is unbelievable amazing work. ❤️
This is what happens when you open portals to other dimensions
🛸
You got that right 1000% right homerun you hit there
But this instrument doesn't have to sound demonic like this. I listen to a beautiful display of sound coming from this thing earlier from a gentleman that I can't find now. And he did the thing from The Wizard of Oz and it was very very moving.. but that sounds totally demonic sorry but it does
Wonderful, and such an interesting place to perform, she's so very inspirational.
I LOVE this.
I just imagine this music being played WITH the cyclotron by adjusting the electrical frequency and sending a particle beam directly into our ears.
Dorit! Very cool. Mesmerizing and fun to watch
I love this! Reminds me of the old science fiction movies from the 1960's.........
I'm getting chills, this is actually really cool.
Edit: Vsauce brought me here btw
I would love to perform in CERN.
Is this possible? 🤔
Love this! Excellent.
🎉 love her !
I will became a theremist certainly! Thank you! Your're supergreat and honorable Musician, thank you, Again!
Ahhgghghh!! So hauntingly gorgeous!
Awesome. I want to learn it the moment i see this videos
This is the best thing. THE BEST THING.
Very cool!
Excelente !!!Buenísimo !!! ...de otro mundo ! Felicitaciones Dorit !
I wish you had more music out.
Fabulous!
Sublime Om 🎶
That was a great sound! First for me she is left handed and I'm left handed and just bought the instrument. There is not much left handed playing to see on you tube and so this is really helpful. Second she doesn't play the instrument like a violin which and uses its full potential. The result is wonderful. I also happen to be a Theoretical Physicist so this is just heaven for me.
Enchantingly dark sounds from this set up and her voice
Love it!
fabuloso, estelar
Beautiful
Just amazing!
this is awesome
Fabulous. Everything electronic music should be.
Wow! Great performance!
❤ just wow!
Just brilliant.
Wow this is so cool
I'm loving it and the darkness of it too
very nice, thank you
She is a sensation!!!! Wow!!!! Deep bass!!! Lovely!!! Saludos desde Uruguay!!!
That was INCREDIBLE!
I love this!
AMAZINGGGG ✨🤩😵💫🤩✨
so cool so good perfect
Wow well done !
Fantastisch 👍👏
Me too. I would too. On a Saturday night!!!!!
this is incredible
Looks just like the “lady in the red dress but, it’s the lady in the red pantsuit. Cool music. That instrument is cool af. I wanna see if there’s a way to sample other sounds to play back like that. Like how a keyboard has different instruments etc. There’s gotta be a way.
There is! There's actually a moog app that you can use with the theremini that let's you download new sounds, tweak them, and share with people. Outside of that though I'm not sure........ my moog theremini will be here in a few days :)
This is so underrated
Jeeeze that's some weird trippy shit man! But couldn't stop watching ❤
Deliciously spooky!
Love the reverb
Subbed and looking forward to hearing more from you!
A M A Z I N G! ! ! ! !!
Genial!
sweet!
I love how she used other instruments to complement the Theremini ❤
d2R2 he sometimes plays me the same music ... :) , Great Dorit,thanks'Y !
this is the kinda thing I've ben wanting to do my whole life ugh I must get one of these this is such a song I'd make love her
Science on science. Nice.
Whats the best Amp or speakers to use to get more volume out of my Threremini?
sounds like a patch i did on the synth..called the bogg....nice jam...
With her attire, and that background, I think the MST3K theme would be very appropriate. Also, I think I'm in love. That talent, that beauty, and a lefty like me. I can only play a few things on the Theremin, nothing original, and not that well.
I watched a lot of MST3K. I have a couple of their bumper stickers. I might pick up one of these Thereminis.
Like Cern the tunnel thing? Or is it a place that just has the same name?
Omg the way she moves her arms is so SCI-FI but it makes me anxious that she might hit the antenna lmao. But she still did a fantastic job!
Doesn't matter, those antennae are solid aluminijm.

Straight out of a sci-fi movie.
Simply .... Eeer , what I like Girl and Boys :)
So does she.
❤️❤️❤️
It's like a Shocker \ Horror film possessed a vehicle with an incredible sound system!...
This is it
Wow just bought 1
Memo to self; Get my Theremini out of storage :)
Interestingly, the Theremini is facing backwards, and she is playing it left handed. Perhaps for visual reasons? With the front panel facing the audience, the performance knobs are not accessible.
When I first got my theremin, this is the way it made sense to play as a right handed person... I trained myself to play the "correct" way... but is there a correct way with music? ;)
The point is not whether playing Theremin left or right handed is "correct". Whatever works best for an individual is the way to go! What I was implying with my comment was that it appears likely that this video was faked, almost certainly to make the video more visually appealing (or maybe even possible), and it does indeed succeed in that respect. The way that it is displayed in the video may not at all be the way it was actually played for the recording. I own a Moog Theremini, and am aware of what it takes to play it. Her hand movements don't seem realistic at all, yet the tuning is uncannily accurate. Of course many music videos are faked these days, and it does not diminish my appreciation for the music, which was interesting and done quite well! One of the appeals of the Theremini are the new performance controls. I use these controls in real time to alter the sound and phrasing in ways that could not be accomplished with an old fashioned Theremin. The placement of the controls means that the Theremini was designed by Moog to be played in the opposite manner of which Dorit is depicted.
Demonstrations Dorit Chrysler is the co-founder of the New York Theremin Society. Moog had her demonstrate the Theremini when it came out three years ago. She's always played theremin left-handed. It's absurd to think she's been faking for over a decade
I was hoping that someone would provide an accurate answer to my
question, as I'm always eager to learn more about a compelling
performer, which Dorit indeed is! As such I appreciate your response.
However, I take issue with your insulting comment that my question is
"absurd". As someone who has worked in the entertainment business for decades and have been behind the scenes at countless TV shows, video shoots and music sessions, I've seen where just about everything is faked these days, so it is not absurd to question it! That aside, as someone with some expertise on the Moog Theremini myself, it is legitimate to question why the performance controls are facing away from the performer where they cannot be easily accessed. The front of the Theremini is more visually appealing than having the back of it facing the camera. Questioning that posture is hardly "absurd"!
She probably learned to play a Theremin with the pitch antenna on her left and the volume on the right. Like Paul McCartney playing a bass guitar upside down, since he was left-handed. The Theremini was designed as a right-handed instrument with an LCD display, usually you use your most dominant hand to control pitch, as that is the most critical.
Also, she probably learned the Theremin on previous models, which didn't have a front LCD display, and it made little difference to her. Also, since she is a professional player, she doesn't need to look at the display as much as a beginner, such as myself, would have to.
Fucking epic!
This is delicious and moist.
reminds me of the band Dead can dance
hahahha, that "ah ah ah, ah ah ah, ah ah aaah" sound super erotic HAHAHAH, is like a martian green woman want love in the night XD, the theremin is extraordinary, Dorit is a cool woman :D
I feel like I'm being possessed by witchcraft.
I had to turn it off as soon as it started. Praise the Lord for discernment.
Hey what's that down by her feet?
It's a Moog Taurus 3 Bass Synthesizer
god bless you you beautiful person
