My Grandad had a really used one from the late 90's that he gave to me just before I had moved to Spain to study. Man the adventures I put that old thing through across Europe should have put it out of commission but I brought it back home still ticking! Didn't really appreciate just having a "digital watch" at that time, but now I realise I was wearing an absolute classic all along. This watch reminds me of the time when I learned great things endure.
5600 is the only watch I wear. Classic 80's look. Display is simple and easy to read. Perfect size and lightweight. At this price I have no worries about loss/stolen/drop/scratch. Less is more.
5600e is my most favorite G Shock, I kept buying them from Target store($50). Now I have four 5600e and use only two of them. The other day I open up one of them and carefully examine the constructions of it and I’m truly appreciate how thoughtful it is, the stainless back cover is so thick that it reinforced he whole watch together with metal frame inside. The “mode” button is recessed so we don’t accidentally press it, genius!!!!
Mine came in a can. I did wear this watch (or one very simular) in the 80's when I was a teenager. I loved it back then. Found it when I was scrolling through G-shocks on a online watch shop, (as I needed a tough and waterproof watch for my vacation) I was very pleasantly surprised that they are still made.
I got filthy dirty working on a water line yesterday and I was wearing my 5600 on a Nato, and since it was also covered in mud, I threw it, strap and all into the washer. Came out like a champ :)
I have many high end G-Shock's including MRG's but I seem to wear mt DW5600E more often than not. It's just about the perfect daily! Size is spot on and has a serious purposeful look.
It's a wonder and pleasure that, for so little, one can buy so iconic and historically significant (and tough as nails bulletproof) of a watch, in what is essentially its original form. Shocking, really. When it came out, I thought the watch a lumbering monstrosity (it was quite big for its time), but it has aged gracefully. It's now inarguably a classic, one that, at that price, would do well in anyone's collection. Thank you, Jody, for another great review!
I appreciate your video. I am from south India. I got this watch (DW-5600E, module 3229) in 2013. It was made in Sept 2012. The battery is still going strong after 6 years (because I rarely used the light, and the alarm), but the light no longer functions and I don't really care! Hope the battery lasts for 10 years. This watch has taken a beating, and the bezel has cracked a bit.
I agree : this is the quintessential G-Shock. I just got a GX-56BB-1 which is heavily based on the DW-5600 (hence GX-*56*-BB-1, I suppose) but bigger and meaner-looking. It's a bit too big for my small wrists but being a G-Shock somehow vindicates it, like it's purpose-built to be big and tough.
2:35: In fact, at its release in 1983 the G-Shock didn't do too well. But then some "wisecracker(*)" decided to use it as an ice hockey puck and it survived the match. It made the news and since then the G-Shock became a winner. True story. I was 14 in 1983 and already a Casio fan (got my F-200 in june 1980) (*) I got the term from your Casio Royale video, given I'm not a native English speaker. Hope I got it right. Keep up the good work!
Just watched your reviews on the Casio Marlin, Tissot PRX etc and they're really good - inciteful and funny - my favourite watch reviews around. Thank you very much
Best watch for me ever, signed under the metal buckle on the strap and came in a tin from Amazon. Am thinking of getting a solid powered version though, batteries not included. Love 5600
@Douglas Pantera You're right. If you have sleeves it's a bit of a struggle lol. I have the black and red 5600 as well. Use it daily, better for the sleeves 👍
This watch is growing on me a lot and for only $40 I'm going to have to order one. It will bring back all my memories of having one as a kid in the late 80s.
I bought mine dw5600e back in 2011 and still going strong with the original battery , bezel and strap to this day i also own the original g-shock dw5600 made in the 90's and the dw5200 made in the 80's also i just bought dw5750e with the round bezel ,now the difference i notice is that the bezel material on the dw5600e seen on the video is a lot better than the original bezel it just does not crack , on the other hand the g-shocks made in the 80's were made in japan and they way stronger than the ones made now days .
I just got mine in from Amazon sunday! I got it for work. I'm a machine operator so I needed something pretty tough. I absolutely love it!!! I love it so much I plan on keeping this one for work and getting the 5610 solar with negative display for day to day when I'm not wearing my seiko diver. My dad and father in law both wore g shocks so it does have sentimental value for me. Great vid and take care!
I forgot about this video. I watched it a long time ago, but it just showed up again today in my feed. I guess we can all change our minds about some things, and I remember thinking the same as you when you said in this video that some things should just be left alone. I thought so too, but fast forward two years to the present, and here we all are, buying bezels and bracelets for our G-Squares. These kits cost more than our watches do lol. I did order a new band for mine, as well as the bezel alone a few weeks ago from Aliexpress. The band showed up a few days ago and according to tracking, my bezel is out for delivery today. The new band was really tight going onto the watch... It was bad enough that I had to actually remove the bezel to secure the band. No matter how hard I pushed against it, I just could not get the spring bars to connect, but after I removed the bezel, it just fell into place. On a side note, I got my 5600 around 1½-2 years ago, and it's my first G-Shock ever. I have another one coming soon. I just ordered it a little while ago, so probably Thursday or Friday it should be here. Used, $40, in very good condition, screen inverted to negative display, two bezels, one with white letters and the other one plain black, destruction manual and all the other literature, and a metal G-Shock tin as opposed to the paperboard box that they actually shipped in. I'm not sure how I'm going to work it yet, it depends on the exact cosmetic condition of the new used one... But probably that module, my case , my band and metal bezel. Then I'll configure the second watch with the leftovers. I hope the JaysandKays BullBar fits over the new metal bezel. EDIT: Yes, the bezel arrived today, and as I suspected, my BullBar just barely doesn't fit.
My first and only g shock. Could t agree more... Undeniable 80's cool aesthetic. Tough as nails. Not over the top and gaudy. It d be nice to see a more modern softer rubber strap offered, but that a knit pick. I find it wears much smaller than it's 43mm size. It was my first and only g shock. I beat the he'll out of it on a daily basis , for over a year now, but if I wipe the grime off ,she still looks like the day I opened the box.
my wrist skin is a little allergic to silicon bands when its above 30 celsius. happened with Samsung and Garmin. zero problems with Casio bands. the one on my GD350BR is the best band i ever seen.
I was going to purchase one of these watches but after seeing the 5610 I opted for that instead as it was only £20 more. It was my very first purchase of a G-Shock watch and I am glad I got it as it is multiband 6 and also solar powered. I have since bought another 5610 with the positive display. They are great value for money and I wear both of mine daily as beater watches.
Terrific review on this little watch that I remember owning when I was a kid. Picked one up over a Christmas at a price that I couldn't pass up, and I have to say that it has all the same nostalgia I had of my original. Great rugged watch that will also have a place in my collection in perpetuity.
The 5600 is a true work horse throughout the years, just too small for me. Nice review, love the statue in the background of the gentleman carrying the croc. Priceless. 🤣🤣🤣
Literally, I just received my exact module watch, today. Then you uploaded this video. What a treat. G Shock DW 5600E. Can't agree more with the fact that it's perfect for smaller size wrists. Best bang for its bucks.
Casio has always offered great value for money. I consider it to be the worker class watch brand. Nothing wrong with it, it wil never fail you. I have once seen a luxury piece for Japanese market only. I think it was called the Ocean's or so. I own three Casio watches myself , got a wave ceptor last Christmas. Great review as always, T-shirts are great too.
Three of this model. The original one was stolen while I was stationed at Fort Stewart, get one developed a leak and rusted out when I was stationed at Camp Castle, South Korea, sold while living here in Texas. I just bought another one today as a beater watch.
I already had a GA 800 G ana-digi but I always wanted a classic so ordered a 5600 on amazon for 55$ The only thing I hate is the adjust button which sits too deep in the case and makes it difficult to press even with my skinny finger. Took it to a watch store and the guy said it stucked in the case so he recommended to send back to amazon and request a replacement .. i hope the new one won't have that issue because I love that watch
This is a little too much for my pocket right now, but I expect to get one someday. For now, I'm enjoying my CA53-W that I just got recently. My next one will probably be a W217h or a W800h, which is way more affordable than GShocks, at least in my country.

I think I am one of the few who have never owned a Casio digital. Grew up with a watch nut dad, so he made sure I always had an analog watch. Maybe I need to pick one up..🤔
Out of interest did you buy a Casio digital watch Frank ? I have used a Casio digital watch now for a number of years, and even the basic models are as tough as boots and the time keeping Accuracy is second to none 👍
Just got mine over the recent holidays for $25!! You said it all perfectly. This is the G shock for me. Too much fluff on the bigger ones. I put the Jays and Kays Bull Bars on it just to "man it up" a bit and it works. I have a hard time sharing watch time with my other tough watches. (I don't care for the term beater either)
I love both my 5600's One is for everyday use - it's got some pretty good digs and scuffs - maybe some bits of spray paint. The other is for when I get dressed up - maybe go to Walmart or get lunch at the taco truck 😆😆😆
about 2 years if you use the alarm and light everyday. I've got mine in 2012 and still running on the same battery. I don't use the light or alarm though lol.
I have a gls-5600cl as a beater ops watch. 200m wr and -20*c ltr. And a Zulu strap. Most G-Shocks look dicky but the squares are on point for a beater.

Goung to the military in january, so I bought mine yesterday. I was going to buy the 5600BB because I thought the all-black looked really cool. But I‘ve read that because of the inversed black display from certain angles it‘s difficult to read the time. So I went with the „original“ 5600E which saved me 25$ aswell
Tough ass watch. I had one in the late 80s and the battery lasted 11 years. I bought this one late last year and it's just as every bit the same as my old one.
man robert de niro wore a dw5600 with a suit in heat and it looked stunning not a rolex or an omega as usual no a resin beater and it made his character look so much cooler

Hello Jodie. Another great review. I’ve just had count up and I have six g-shocks one of which is a 5610. There is something special about this watch. I have a 7 1/4 inch wrist, and it really has a snug fit plus it just disappears on your wrist.👍
Wish Casio would 'also' make a slightly bigger DW5600 at 46.5mm wide up from it's 42.8. When looking down on my wrist it looks fine but when looking in the mirror i can't help feeling... it's just a bit too small. A Skmei 1134 lookalike is 50mm wide (similar to the GX56) and at that size it's just too big (like a mini TV screen on your wrist). But wearing both and looking in the mirror there's a definite size sweet spot right in between the two. A slight size increase would still fit under a sleeve, remain a smallish/medium classic G-Shock, and... look less retro and more modern-era masculine. The venerable and iconic submariner has it's bigger Sea dweller so why not a slightly bigger 5600.
I still have my original that I got in the 80's and it works perfectly. This style of Casio is timeless and every watch enthusiast should own one.
Agreed.

I have a gls-5600cl as a beater ops watch. 200m wr and -20*c ltr. And a Zulu strap. Most G-Shocks look dicky but the squares are on point for a beater.
Note the atomic multi band 6 may not work in Australia. Like the pro treks.
Simple watch but it's very useful
Just bought one yesterday, i paid 80$ in my country (Romania) but i picked it right out of the store, no waiting for shipping.
In ce magazin ai gasit la banii astia?

Got exactly one like this. .ran 1 battery from 2009 to 2021 . Need new battery to bring it back to life
Hahaha, that nightclub reference had me dying.
I got mine 2 yrs ago for $32 plus tax. I'm surprised that it keeps better than the older versions I had in the past.
Just received the wavemaster. Boy you weren’t kidding about those screw links !
I changed the case and the belt with retro black steel for 70 USD. Now it looks like the watch of the Terminator.
Love that intro, and a great review. Keep it up!
Face window, is it real glass or plastic one?
Will use it today!
I just ordered the solar version, I l9v3my5600 battery operated version
I love it, one of my prefers g shock of my litle collection
Fine review Jodie. Love mine although the shrouded pushers make adjusting the watch too difficult IMHO.
Tough ass watch. I had one in the late 80s and the battery lasted 11 years. I bought this one late last year and it's just as every bit the same as my old one.
My first battery just died after exactly 11 years also. 2010-2021. I know it’s just a battery, but I feel like a friend just died.
@@ORflycaster lol you ain't lying.
Just got it and it's awesome.
Definitely will not find one of these for $38 in Canada...this watch runs anywhere from $75-$100 here. Maybe a bit cheaper online.
It is about $70 in Canadian Amazon store.
$60 if you have luck here
120 and upwards in Australia
My ‘83 original made many 100 ft plus scuba dives without any problems 🌈
man robert de niro wore a dw5600 with a suit in heat and it looked stunning
not a rolex or an omega as usual no a resin beater and it made his character look so much cooler
I did not know that mate!
@@JustOneMoreWatchits true my friend i always hear the keanu speed reference but come on that whatch was in one of the best conversation in movie history al pacino and robert deniro on that table together instant classic

I bought that model and a DW 9052 at Target for $50 US dollars a piece
I plan to do the same.
Am thinking of getting one, the solar model but am still resisting the temptation of having a second GShock. Hardly wear my one and only GShock...
Hello Jodie. Another great review. I’ve just had count up and I have six g-shocks one of which is a 5610. There is something special about this watch. I have a 7 1/4 inch wrist, and it really has a snug fit plus it just disappears on your wrist.👍
I love this watch 😊
Not the ultimate beater, but the ultimate complete watch! Better than automatics
I love the Steve Irwin figurine
