You only need one watch to wear... DW 5600E is the only watch you gonna need for a lifetime. My DW 5600E is 16 years old now. I bought it during Basic Training in the Army. Took it to South Korea. Took it to Iraq. Took it to Afghanistan. After 8 yrs of active service, 2x Battery changes, and 3 times strap changes, it is still going strong. I think it is going to outlive me. Now, I wear it as a Nurse. I see most of my coworkers wear apple watches... I earn more than they do but I will never exchange this wristwatch for any smartwatch. I prioritize toughness, reliability, and longevity. I have a few version designs of G-Shocks but this one is still my favorite. It's my everyday beater watch.
Great story and great watch. I just got this watch and I'm in my early 20s. Hope to keep mine for as long as you did and can't wait to see the wear over time
The DW 5600e is a classic for sure! In its own way, as good as the DW 5600c before! The only thing you need to be careful of is when you change the battery is not to over torque the screws when closing the back plate? It's a common mistake and I have had a couple of used ones with one or two stripped threads !
Wow 16 years I love your story with the watch ⌚️ ❤️ I purchased the watch ⌚️ today love too here his potential I'm ready for my story with the watch ⌚️ 😀
This was my first digital watch. Took an absolute hammering with daily, hard use and still it lasted the best part of a decade. Great value and I must say still best looking of the G-Shocks. Good video. Thank you.
Just picked up one of these used on eBay for $15. Get this, it was so cheap because it's *_dirty._* Of all things. Sheesh. LOL Luckily for me, we have running water in our house, and I'm going to be able to "restore" this poor, abused item that the world turned its back on. It'll be my second G-Shock, and I'm really looking forward to it getting here.
Excellent and enjoyable to watch review of a classic! The crystal is mineral, as you said. A fun fact about 1545 vs. 3229 is that it's not only the calendar that is different, the 3229 has a little spring to touch the speaker which you can lose if you are not careful while changing battery. The 1545 doesn't have it, instead it has a little part of the contact pads bent to touch the speaker so you can't lose anything when changing the battery making it more robust 😊
Actually g shocks feature double gaskets so even when you press a button, the water resistance is kept, and in the past Casio used to say it's OK to operate the buttons on their 200m watches, but they later changed it in their booklets

Definitely thinking about picking up this G-Shock DW5600. The countdown feature is a great add-on, something that the F91W doesn't have. I love cheap watches. I almost went down the rabbit hole of mechanical watches but I never owned one. I thought to really appreciate a watch it had to be expensive but then I started to think of the watches I had as a kid; they were always Casio. They are sophisticated in their own way and have their place in the history of watchmaking. Beyond replacing the strap and battery they are maintenance free. They are tough, reliable and enjoyable. It just brings a smile to my face. Great review. Oh right now you can get these for $38. Crazy value.

3 of these on my wrist since the late 80s. I got my one while I was still in the Army. Seriously, the greatest watch ever if you never want to worry about it, never take it off, and dont care if you beat on it. (Me!) I broke a seiko diver, broke a field watch supposedly made for the infantry... went back to the PX and got this one... I cant imagine not having it. Just ordered one of these online as I have been looking at my Casio G2900 G-Shock for the last 21 years and it still functions like the first day I wore it. Yes, I did replace the battery a couple of times as well as the wristband but that’s it. I periodically clean the case and band (off the watch) with Dawn dishwashing liquid and a toothbrush to get all the gunk out of those crevices and grooves and pockets designed in for aesthetics and durability. You cannot go wrong with Casio watches. Also keep in mind, the thicker the case, the more likely it will make physical contact with other objects and show the resulting wear and tear.
I have a black g shock Casioak but I used a F91W for years at work but It got crushed the other day by a car. I used to strap it round my handle bars on my motorcycle. I didn't strap it correctly and it was lost. I will replace with this watch. Great review 👍
Another well done review. You consistently make detailed and organized reviews that rarely feel as long as they actually are. I've never been a fan of G Shock, but I understand they have their place in the watch world.
chr1s60 thanks for watching and the complaint. G-Shock definitely isn't for everyone but if I was only going to own one for a digital beater watch this would be it.
My dw5600e model 1545 has red and white lettering, red octagonal outline, red marker for mode, adjust, and light, and red lettering on the rubber cover for PROTECTION and G-SHOCK. On the caseback the G-SHOCK in the middle of the letter G is engraved. Made in Thailand. I have owned it for more than 15 years. Everything still works. I just changed the battery.
Huge G shock fan here..I now own 5 of them, including the blacked-out “stealth” versions of the DW5600 and DWD5500, and the standard version of the GWM-5610..my other 2 are round models, and I like them all, but I do agree that the square ones have “cleaner” dials, generally.
Aha but it also serves for zeroing the stopwatch. On my issue the button won't press without a tool at all. I'd prefer it to use press-and-hold to enter settings menu. And to do something else when simple pressed. Theres a lot to improve in hypothetic 5600 v2.0, but Casio doesn't seem to follow that path.
This would be fine if it weren't used for the stopwatch and timer features. They probably could have shifted that function to the light button, but alas, we're going on 40 years now, I don't think it's gonna be changing lol
The DW-5600 is one of the best-looking G-Shock models, with that squarish design and no-nonsense, purely digital timekeeping, but I don't like how the LCD display kinda feels incomplete because the day display only displays the first two letters of the day. So I got the GX-56BB-1 that's heavily based on the DW-5600 while looking bigger and tougher, and more importantly, has a complete-looking display. It really looks the business and is likely even tougher than the DW-5600.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I haven't seen that GX-56BB-1 before, that's a nice alternative to the 5600 if you don't mind spending a few more bucks. Thanks for sharing.
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews check it out dude. It's earned the name 'King of G-Shock' on the internet and has been included in several articles that lists some of the toughest G-Shock models. And it doesn't look too gaudy like so many G-Shock models do. It's also fully electronic so there are no moving parts, which helps with shock resistance. Oh and it's mud resistant too!! Really tough little bugger.
Great G-shock, I wore a classic digital G-shock like this while in the military for multiple duty stations, schools and deployments, saw some pretty rough conditions, plenty of dirt, dust, mud & body fluids and it held up just fine. Had nicer Seiko & Citizen dive watches but I usually wore the G-shock and it was all the watch I needed. In fact, I just bought another, the DW5600E. The strap on the new watch is slightly softer but it sure feels the same.
Thanks for watching. Did your gshock ever glass ever get ruined while on active duty or did that hold up too? That seems like it’s the only possible weak point, but I don’t abuse mine hard to really test how well it’ll hold up?
JustBlueFish a spark from a smoke grenade hit the face and marred the surface slightly, not much more than a tiny white dimple. Didn't affect anything but cosmetics.
Excellent review. I’ve ordered one and looking forward to receiving it this week. I prefer this case size in the winter because it fits under my shirt sleeve/jacket easier. In the summer I wear the thicker casios. Also I prefer setting the time as opposed to atomic. I actually enjoy setting the time. Again, great review
I just picked one up at target for half-price at $24.95! I couldn’t believe it when I saw this gem at that price point! I needed this classic G to add to my collection. I love resin straps!
Make sure it says gshock on the bezel. Casio also makes an economy model that looks identical but just says "water resistant" where the G-shock should be. The economy model is still pretty good, but it is closer to a normal watch. The g-shock is significantly more durable. Lots of people on ebay were selling these lower end models but claiming they were g-shocks.
Dave Smith -Yes it says G-Shock on the bezel 👍. I got an even better deal on a Casio Duro “Marlin”. I bought the new gold & black version for $10 at wal-mart. Certain wal marts are doing away with their jewelry counters & are clearance selling all the watches.
I have had one of these every since they first came out and no problems. It was getting a bit scratched up from hard abuse but everything worked fine. Battery needed replacement so decided to treat myself to the identical model G Shock. Just picked one up a day ago at Walmart. I have much more expensive watches but this one is the one that always gives accurage time, has a light for use at night, and all the most needed info easily seen day or night. Buttons never get stuck unlike a couple of other expensive chronometers I have that need servicing every once in a while. The G-shocks...just set and forget them. Note Casio does make a nearly identical watch with same features for about 33% of the cost. They don't say G shock so while they may be OK...they won't have the military certification for durability and less effective water resistance. The G shock is good for 200 meters whereas the others are around 50 meters or less. Are they water proof....they say water resistant, however, I swim with mine in a pool all the time. Just make sure you don't operate the buttons under water and they are fine. If you do change the battery though make sure the rubber o ring is installed correctly to avoid a leak....might be worth having a certified Casio shop do it if you are nervous about it. But I did change the battery out myself once and no leaks.
About to add one to my collection of automatics and mechanicals. I love the ruggedness, water resistance, and accuracy of the G. Not to mention, you get the Day of the week, the Month AND the Date.
I just got the DW5600 tonight and was watching this review on it, then you pulled out the DW9052 as a comparison... which is the same watch I have on my wrist right this second, except I have the blue version. Weird yet helpful.
You forgot "Speed" !...that's the watch of Keanu Reeves, Jack in the movie...love this movie...all the '80-'90 were beautiful action movies ,more realistic...without all that technology we have today, wich make the movies to look so...artificial, fake...
I just wish it had another time(dual time)that you can add to it. Other than that it's a fantastic watch. I travel a lot and sometimes need to have a different time on my watch
I just bought this watch based on your review and I love it.... and because I enjoyed this one so much I got the so-called updated version of it... The GW-5610.... The two major differences being it's solar powered so battery life is extensive and it's basically self adjusting for the time with daylight savings time Because it's radio controlled and multiband
@@marcf2895....ya know it's funny...I just now noticed that myself...it's not a drastic difference... very minute in fact... but it is smaller.... I don't know why that is... but it is what it is
Just bought 1 today. I looked thru the gshock range n found out theyre all bulky n with over the top features. The sales guy showed me this one n i immediately like the design; small n thin n with vital features that i need n none of what i dont need. Turned out to be an 80s design lol.
One of the things I love about Casio watches is the fact that the buttons are so recessed.... because of the way I wear my watch.... which is right on the bend ... I tend to accidentally push the buttons and depending on how the watch is set up it starts a timer or Will go into time set up and is very annoying especially when you go to look at the time and it's flashing or a countdown has started....so i like the recessed buttons a lot....no matter how much I bend my hand back I can't push in the buttons....and this is the first watch I've never had that problem with
I personally love all those texts clutter, preferably in the original colors like in the dw5600e. I think these texts with the original color gives it the 80s charm.
The same here. I'm not even sure I like it, I haven't had digital watches since elementary school. Getting this next week. but honestly I bought it because is not too expensive and has good quality.
I like the solar with multiband six.... Decided to pay a little extra for those features... To me is the ultimate watch I wear the most... Usually I was just a seiko collector.... Now I'm adding more of these g shocks to my collection.... Different variations of the 5610....can't believe I never had one of these before... Stunning quality and features.... I wouldn't change the strap unless it breaks.. But can't see that happening for many years.... Thanks for your review
That was my first g shock my art teacher gave it to me when i was in the 3rd grade it must of been 97 at the time, i just found it on amazon im waiting for it to arrive
Thank you for a great video , i love how not eye catching this watch is , I am also from 80's era so I like that it doesn't have whole lots of useless features that you really don't need Thanks great video.
I love this watch. The only, ONLY problem I have is that I wish the time display was just a tad larger. Also, I think I had the non G shock version of this watch when I was kid in the mid 80's into the early 90's. It may have been the original one. I'm not really sure. I'm old now and can't remember. LOL
Great review of an absolute classic! Thx for the effort on such an affordable piece. I honestly think this is the best Casio money can buy...I prefer it to the screw backs for many reasons but I digress
I got mine in the mail today and I've been monkeying with it all afternoon at work. I absolutely love the way it looks on my wrist and I can't wait to just wear this in the pool or wherever without having to think twice about it.
I bought this watch back in 1994 when I first looked Keane Reeves wear it on “Speed” movie . Since then I bought so many other watches , Casio , G shock , Seiko , Cityzen , Tag Heuer , Camel Trophy … DW has perfect size , perfect weight and fits perfect on my wrist . I don’t know why but DW has a special place in my heart . Maybe because it has the power to bring me back all those memories from my childhood . That’s why i have three of them , wrapped in their boxes , just in case …. By the way , nice review ♠️
i've bought it after finished viewing your video. that will be my 3rd g-shock. my 1st (dw8800) still in my collection but can't use because of the scew back loosed, the 2nd (dw6900) still ticking and this will be the 3rd. love those g-shock because of the durabilty & sturdy. best beater watch ever. thank you for this review and have a nice day sir. :)
Thanks for your video! It is an excellent "visual" user's manual. Also, kudos on the "analog" micrometer! This model is a classic while the other G-Shocks border on the obscene!

I love mine and I love your presentation on this watch thank you ever so much sharing this with everyone it's a must buy watch it is rugged it has 200 m at 650 ft of water it's just fantastic thank you so much
I have an Omega Speedmaster. Mine was purchased new before I was born by my father in 1967. Omega is still banking on the NASA history to promote that model and charge a premium. They’re expensive. They are hand-wind mechanical, with stopwatch features-but they are not scratch resistant, not water resistant, not shock resistant, and being mechanical they do drift off time after several days. The Speedmaster is no comparison to a G-Shock. Today, NASA and the US military mostly uses G-Shocks.
I ordered one and thought it was faulty with the pusher stuck in...couldn't adjust it as no finger nail returned it.. shame I love the style and looked great 😊
same problem here!!!!!!! Bought one, had that problem, got another--- same prob---get an Timex Ironman!!!!!!! OR carry a pointed stick to adjust and reset stop watch
I have two questions with regard to this watch: 1) How long does the battery last in general? 2) Does it have a vibrator that vibrates when the alarm plays?
I just got one today and I thought I got a defective one because of how recessed the A button was. I compared it to the 5610 and was like something don’t feel right and look right with that button. Now I know it’s ok.
I have a rather small wrist so square watches have always fit better on me ive had this watch for 3 weeks so far. Great watch it can take alot of beating

Josephus Bilbao thanks for watching and the comments I appreciate it. I don't personally have a need dual time but I can see how some users would want that functionality.
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews When viewed directly from the top the dial is kinda dim or faded but when rotate the watch just few degrees the contrast enhances and everything looks great. I cheked some threads on wus and some other digital g- shocks and I realized thats normal. It's little annoying for me but otherwise the watch is great. The size, design, functions are beyond great.
I love square G-Shocks. Also round digital watches generally (not only G-Shock) are not my cup of coffee. Especially those transformer looking akward nonsense shaped bezel with outgrowths. Round G-Shocks ... only analog ones catches my attention. Anyway the classic DW5000, 5600 MGR-5000, all GMW squares are my taste. I`ve dreamed of GMW-B5000 and finally get one.
This helped me figure out my gshock thats been away in a jewelers shop with a broken strap for 5 years. Thanks!
Were you able to get it back? lol
If you have a big wrist,it's a great alternative to the dw5600
Just picked one up for $40 out the door..... Love it. I still want the triple sensor g shock.....but this is one I can beat up on and not worry.
triple sensor is a waste
Crazy, they’re some tough watches.
Thanks for watching and enjoy the GShock. Everyone should have this watch.
I get mine tomorrow lol. Amazon warehouse special 👍
@@sci-figuy6668 Nice, that's a great find.
Excellent review, I recently bought this timeless masterpiece and you've taught me alot about it, Thank you.
it looks retro and tactical with the all black resin, like something a swat team would use
Thanks for watching.
Or a soccer coach from the 90's
@@matt4398 LOL
Soccer? Ugh
Surprise surprise they actually use this one
This watch is easily one of my favourite watches . I wear it everyday and it is so practical , good looking and can take a hiding .
About to add one to my collection of automatics and mechanicals. I love the ruggedness, water resistance, and accuracy of the G. Not to mention, you get the Day of the week, the Month AND the Date.
just bought this watch. needed a great watch to wear while swimming and this review sealed the deal for me. thanks! I really love this watch so much.
Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy it, it's still one of my favorites.
your review sold me just got it on Amazon for $43 should be nice to have a beater watch to wear everyday :)
I just got the DW5600 tonight and was watching this review on it, then you pulled out the DW9052 as a comparison... which is the same watch I have on my wrist right this second, except I have the blue version. Weird yet helpful.
Thanks for watching.
I'm too an 80s child The 80s was awesome: Terminator, Predator, Commando, Die hard, Rambo..
I'm an 80s kid too and loved growing up in that era
@Dimitri Dragunov How much are these wworth? I want to buy one but dont know how much they are worth
And MAD MAX 1 and 2! 👍
The Pondering Minimalist and Queen
You forgot "Speed" !...that's the watch of Keanu Reeves, Jack in the movie...love this movie...all the '80-'90 were beautiful action movies ,more realistic...without all that technology we have today, wich make the movies to look so...artificial, fake...
Just got this today, thanks for explaining the alarm and chime
Thanks for watching
I just wish it had another time(dual time)that you can add to it. Other than that it's a fantastic watch. I travel a lot and sometimes need to have a different time on my watch
Got mine today, it's great, just wish I could add another time zone LOL
I love square watch....
I bought mid-september. I love it !
Thank you for this very simple and easy explanation, just got this watch and was able to figure everything out, thanks.
The GW-5610 is also smaller.
I tend to accidentally push the buttons and depending on how the watch is set up it starts a timer or Will go into time set up and is very annoying especially when you go to look at the time and it's flashing or a countdown has started....so i like the recessed buttons a lot....no matter how much I bend my hand back I can't push in the buttons....and this is the first watch I've never had that problem with
This, a seiko diver and a submariner.
.. And im done 😍
I personally love all those texts clutter, preferably in the original colors like in the dw5600e. I think these texts with the original color gives it the 80s charm.
This video was really good. Had to explain to my fiancé that I was watching a 30 minute review of a Casio watch 😂
😂 LOL
I know.. right? And then they give you the raised eyebrow and the "Really?" look.
Watchiing porn is easier to explain I guess ;D
😂😂
these things never die
simple,to the point and good price just how i like it,I just bought one this is the first watch ive bought in years.
One of my all time favorite watches.
Good review, bought DW 5600, last day. Thanks
Mine is made in Thailand. Purchased July, 2019.
Ah! The land of smiles. Mine is the original stainless steel screw back version and fully made in the land of the rising sun. Japan. 😄
G shock DW-5600 its like michael jordan LEGEND
That was my first g shock my art teacher gave it to me when i was in the 3rd grade it must of been 97 at the time, i just found it on amazon im waiting for it to arrive
The only G-shocks I like are the squares, DW-5900s (or GW-5000) and the classic DW-6900s. Anything else doesn’t look like a G-shock to me.
also something interesting its used for space mission lanches because of its acuracey
I have heard that is true.
Already ordered this! Thanks mate
I like the DW5600HR and this one...
Great detailed video of this classic. Nice work
Thanks man, I appreciate it.
Stone-Cold Classic!
Thanks for watching.
excellent video on the 5600e keep the casino reviews coming!!
Very nice review. I bought one today. And my preferences are identical to yours - I too was a 1980s teenager😊
Nice, hope you enjoy it. Still my favorite G-shock.
It doesn't hurt the watch using the functions under water.
I own one.
Ive set my watch underwater.
Battery life is about 5 6 yrs.
I have a DW5600E and a DW9052 I got them both at Target for $50 a piece
2 great watches.
I just got this watch in the mail today and I love it, it’s so basic and simple.
Thank you for a great video , i love how not eye catching this watch is , I am also from 80's era so I like that it doesn't have whole lots of useless features that you really don't need Thanks great video.
I got one, and i love it !
Are you the guy who commissions people to do wonder bread f*tish art
Just picked mine up. Used but practically new. how do they do it!?!? it's a thing of beauty. can't stop looking at it! 😆
I love your review on this classic childhood 80’s watch! I have one on order which I’ll receive tomorrow 🙌🏼
I got mine in the mail today and I've been monkeying with it all afternoon at work. I absolutely love the way it looks on my wrist and I can't wait to just wear this in the pool or wherever without having to think twice about it.
Thanks for watching and enjoy it.
Just got mine and its favorite
i've bought it after finished viewing your video. that will be my 3rd g-shock. my 1st (dw8800) still in my collection but can't use because of the scew back loosed, the 2nd (dw6900) still ticking and this will be the 3rd. love those g-shock because of the durabilty & sturdy. best beater watch ever. thank you for this review and have a nice day sir. :)
Awesome I hope you enjoy the dw5600. It's my favorite G-Shock and one of my favorite watches in general. Thanks for watching and the message.
your welcome sir, thank you for your quick reply.
I also bought this one because of his review, unfortunatelly I could not use the amazon's shop as I'm brazilian, but the review made me buy for sure.
Glad my video was helpful Ciro.
Thank you for that, it seems a great watch!! keep the good work!!
Yo poseo este modelo gracias por el video
Thanks for your video! It is an excellent "visual" user's manual. Also, kudos on the "analog" micrometer! This model is a classic while the other G-Shocks border on the obscene!
Great video, I just gave a friend this gshock. I’m sure it will give him the time of his life for years to come. 12-23-22
Great video, you helped me decide. Just bought one!!!
Nice, I hope you like it as much as I do. It's one of the few watches that I will always have in my collection.
Awesome review👏👏
I have a f91w now i have this one too
Good choices.
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews the display of my 5600 is a bit dull when viewed upfront but when u tilt it north the digits turn deep black, its not the case with F91W tho mine is just 2 months old
JustBlueFish Watch Reviews i actually made an amateur vid recently u can check it below to confirm it it's a screen defect or if its normal ua-cam.com/video/Xnaba4XzsmA/v-deo.html
Hi you do make me laugh, I'm from Yorkshire, England and your voice just cracks me up 😂. I hang on every word though and look forward to all your reviews. Great work!!
Thanks appreciate it.
Why does his voice crack you up?
A thorough review, thanks.
I love mine and I love your presentation on this watch thank you ever so much sharing this with everyone it's a must buy watch it is rugged it has 200 m at 650 ft of water it's just fantastic thank you so much
Auto repeat countdown is good for HIIT work outs
I have just bought the very same model, but it came in a fancy metal case!
Thank you for trying it on
I ordered one and thought it was faulty with the pusher stuck in...couldn't adjust it as no finger nail returned it.. shame I love the style and looked great 😊
Thanks for watching.
Which pusher was stuck? If it is the pusher on top left, it is supposed to be stuck in as to avoid accidental adjustments.
same problem here!!!!!!! Bought one, had that problem, got another--- same prob---get an Timex Ironman!!!!!!! OR carry a pointed stick to adjust and reset stop watch
Still one of the greatest watch reviews of all time.
I have two questions with regard to this watch:
1) How long does the battery last in general?
2) Does it have a vibrator that vibrates when the alarm plays?
1) around 3 years, could be more
this is THE LEGEND g-shock!!! nice hamilton automatic btw i have mechanical :)
Bought the original ‘83 model. Used it for many scuba dives as deep as 160 ft. Never had a problem 😁
Great review thanks! Agree about the 80's Gshocks, I only like those. I had a couple in the 80's and recently picked up a 5600 BB. Very cool!
Vassilis Petropoulos thanks for watching and the comments. Is the 5600 BB the model that is all blacked out with the negative display, or something else?
JustBlueFish yep! Thats the one. I ve had no probs with legibility and its a bit different so...
Cool enjoy the gshock, they're great little watches. I love mine.
JustBlueFish yes me too. Keep up the good work! Your vids are great!
great review! too bad casio did away with dual time for the basic 5600 but it still has more than enough useful features. great looking g.
Josephus Bilbao thanks for watching and the comments I appreciate it. I don't personally have a need dual time but I can see how some users would want that functionality.
Just picked mine. It's really nice except that in certain angles the dial/ digits fade.
The LCD can be hard to read at an angle with some light but it's hard to beat it for the price.
Absolutelly gorgeous tough but luxury looking watch.
