  • Finally!!! My seats were finally completed after 2 1/2 to 3 months with the upholsterer. I had to replace all the leather - finding and ordering the hide took some time and then there were corrections need. Overall, the upholster shop did a good job, inexpensive and is a good and patient guy.
    The upholstery work ranged from $500 - $1200 per seat. The shop I used charged me $600 for both seats. It helps reduce the price when you remove the old covers. Definitely shop around! I used Texas Auto Upholstery here in Houston - Ali is a good dude.
    Hope you enjoy the installation and like the end product.

    I'm in the process of retrofitting the same seats into a 986 Boxster. Although there are many differences between my project and your work, this video series provided several useful pointers. For example, the seat back and bottom bolsters on my driver's seat are worn. I sent a link to your seat disassembly video to the upholsterer who will be doing the work. I think it will help him avoid problems and produce a better result. I was tempted to have the seat inserts replaced with a retro pattern, but I decided to avoid "mission creep" as the cost of my project has already exceeded my initial estimates. Thanks for taking the time to produce and post these videos.

      I’ve justified the cost in both time and money by convincing myself that the upgrade will bring me an amount of joy that is equivalent to buying a new Porsche. Of course, a rationale person may challenge my logic. The rationale person might start by saying buying a Porsche is not a good economic decision in the first place.@@rasta997turbo9

    Oh wow!!!!!! That looks AWESOME! Totally transformed the interior. I love your style man. I really think everything you have modified is top notch and not over the top. Just classy for your 997 Turbo. Looking forward to seeing more of your content . . . especially some driving vids! That teaser at the end . . . the exhaust note . . . ugh - so cool!

      Thanks! I absolutely love the retro look - a product of growing up in the 80s. LOL
      I definitely plan to post a short summary vid and some driving as well . . . safely of course.

    Rasta you cost me some money (lol) Found a set of sport seats that a seller found with Houndstooth (just as I wanted in black and white) that a small specialty shop had completed. Shop went out of business so seats were up on EBay. They have same manual controls as my current GTS seats and silver shell. Leather is in perfect (as new) condition and has Porsche Crest (that mine did not). I will lose my seat heat, but never used so no worries. Your video will be REALLY helpful for my conversion. I am hanging on to OEM seats too. Thanks again, Scott

      Yah mon! Money well spent friend . . . I lost the vented seat function on my conversion and haven't looked back! Black and white houndstooth was my second choice - you can't go wrong with that combination.

    Looks fantastic. I want to do this to mine but with houdstooth inserts. I need to find a reputable shop that can do it here in Lexington.

      Thanks! I thought about houndstooth but I felt too many modern 911s (996, 997, 991 . . .) had it so I went the opposite direction - don't regret it at all. Good luck on your search. Make sure you stay on top of it and tell them it's for a "show car" because they'll want to cut corners. I had to get my guy to repair and restitch a few areas because they didn't line up correctly. Overall, it took 2 months before I got my seats back in proper order, and yes I would go back to my guy again.

    Can you explain the process of tearing down the seat backs? I would like to get mine painted as well but I'm a little intimidated on how to take apart the seat.... haven't been able to find good DIY on how to tear them down.

      @Bruno I have a series of videos and hopefully some will help you on "upgrading" your 997. Check out Part II (link below) of my journey - I tried to be as detailed as possible in breaking down the seat and hopefully you benefit from my experience. It's not at all difficult - the first seat took about an hour or so as I was really careful and trying to figure things out. The second seat was a breeze and took about 30 minutes. Good luck!

    I owned 996 turbo manual - Thinking about 997 turbo now - tons of tiptonic for sale with higher millage for low 60s! but I think 6spd is the way to go! I donno! as Prices are crazy !

    • @rasta997turbo9
      @rasta997turbo9  2 роки тому

      Manual is the way to go in these 997s. Not many places you can go and hit 0-60 in 3 secs or less with the dual clutch so why not enjoy a more engaged experience in a manual and go 0-60 in 3.2-3.4 secs? I love my manual and will never give it up.
      I would wait mid 2022 or later. I plan to buy another 997 Turbo and I wouldn't pick a high mileage sample at current prices . . . I think the prices will drop a bit.

    • @StreetDrivenDaily
      @StreetDrivenDaily 2 роки тому +1

      @@rasta997turbo9 hopefully they will drop ..! I doubt. 😢

    • @rasta997turbo9
      @rasta997turbo9  2 роки тому

      @@StreetDrivenDaily It will. Look at what happened to the 430 Scud., it peaked around $450-$500k in 2015 or 2017 but now they are floating around $200k-$300k? Not that I can drop that kind of change but point is they dropped significantly from the peak. As much as I would love the value of my 997 Turbo to increase, I'm not going to realize any gains until I sell, which won't happen.
      Like you, I'm hoping there will be a dip because I plan to pick up another for a mini modification project. In the mean time, I continue to save for that day . . . win/win in my opinion.

      @@rasta997turbo9 6spd or auto. I was about to buy one they wanted 54k for 997 tip with 80k on it . I did pass. And now I'm kicking myself. Tip is nice of the light. And you know that engine never was over revved

    • @rasta997turbo9
      @rasta997turbo9  2 роки тому +1

      @@StreetDrivenDaily Tips are nice and good value but the manuals are more desirable (you can see that reflected in the prices between the the 2). I wouldn't worry too much about the overrevs. There is something to be said about range 5 and 6 and maybe range 4 but that shouldn't be a major factor unless you are looking for a garage queen. A good PPI should ease any worries.
      80k miles for $54k seems high to me but I'm a manual guy and view the tips differently. I'd rather pay for a high mileage manual than a tip but that's me. I'm not saying tips are bad, it's just preference . . . a modded tip is blazing quick and fast . . .
      People are starting to catch on that the 997 may be the sweet spot between full analog 964 and 993s and the electronic aids of the 991.

    • @rasta997turbo9

      HRE P40. They are from the 1 piece "monoblok" series. I believe the P40 has been discontinued and replaced with the P40SC, which I think don't look as nice but that's my opinion. I prefer the smoother and cleaner lines of the P40.
