- Опубліковано 3 жов 2024
- Project 996 continues in this episode with the installation of some deviated blue seat belts to add an extra 'pop' to the interior of my Porsche 911 and to tie in with the new paint color. In this video we also walk through several other interior mods I currently have in the works... all leading up to the Rocky Mountains road trip I'm embarking upon in just a few months. Check it out!

Those deviated seat belts look great! I can hardly wait to see this 996 back on the road and running reliably again.
Haha. ME TOO! Man, I can't wait. :)
Yes looking forward to the series kicking off again.
Nice work! Looks awesome! Can’t wait to see the 996 on the road.
Recently had my black seat belts replaced in red. My 997 black interior has been transformed. Thanks for another informative video James.
Cheers Werner! Good job!
Turned out Great James!!!! Can't wait to see your next Mod.... Jake2hd
Cheers mate! Appreciate it!
@9:57 Will be watching if & how you replace door airbag cover. Almost always dented (thin aluminum) & leather worn. 👍
Airbag stitching (main split) is very special to tear break based on the airbag specs, opening speed, & safety design.
Thanks for bringing back more 996 vids .CHEERS
Cheers Chris! You bet!
Nice Job! Love it! What’s the Bluetooth part??
Here you go! www.ebay.com/itm/255214067067
Looks great 👍🏼
Thanks 👍
Try Aerospace 303 Protectant. Clean your hard plastics, faux leather etc, then use this product to protect them and keep them from fading due to UV light. There are so many uses for this around the house and it does not leave a greasy film or feel. Take care.
This video makes me think that someone should paint the deck chairs on the Titanic...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Doing all the little things to my new to me 996 C4S. I didn’t want to drop the 💰 on the Porsche classic radio just yet. I love the stealth of the stock radio and Bluetooth and phone mount, at least now, thanks for sharing that one. Maybe the console delete as well? Lots of little things but excited for spruce it up.
I can fully appreciate the note about the stealth look for the stock radio. It's hard to beat in terms of its size. The center console delete was one of the best mods I did in this 996. It opened up the cabin so much, visually and physically. It no longer felt like a smaller classic car. Well worth the money for that one.
Excellent video, I might have to consider this mid for the 993 cab!?!
Let's do it!! I'll help.
Hahaha - your assessment of boring interior upgrades are exciting to me. I’ve done a lot of the same and enjoyed the upgrades. My seat belt receptacles were super scratched & pink. Not great.
At 6’0”, I’ve never really felt cramped enough to understand ditching the lower center console. But maybe for taller guys, it’s worth it.
I also dig that you hung onto the 9 ELF plates for the 996!
The stereo adapter is one I’ll look forward to for sure….
Looking great!
Cheers Kelly. Plus I had no idea you were a member of 6ft+ crew! Nice work team mate!! :-)
Looks great James!
Thanks Jaap! Appreciate it.
I think you should use Loctite blue on the seat belt anchor bolts. And torque them to spec.
As usual always a good time watching your video !
Cheers!
Hi, could you try to refresh your rear seat belts lockers? (Red plastic)
I have heard it is possible to use a thermal gun targeting it, for a 30 seconds and they are okay)
I have seen it once, but never tried
Nice video, you do 👍
Please, let me know the result :)
I’m glad I found your channel and all the stuff you’re doing on this car.
What do you do for a living to have time to work on this thing all the time?
Anyway thanks for all the detailed walk throughs, I’m enjoying finding the videos and LOVE the narrow body carrera with the ducktail you’ve built.
Thanks Cody!! It's basically nights and weekends, even some early mornings before the family wakes up. Thanks for your support. Keep in touch!
Looks Great!
Great job james! The seatbelts make a huge difference! Are you still thinking of getting the engine and gearbox fitted at a porsche dealership? Possibly something has been tweaked in the driveline that doesnt make them line up properly. Keep up the good work👍
Totally. That's the plan! We gave it a good try last time. This time the pros and Porsche MPLS will doing the transmission, clutch and engine. Can't wait!!
Good luck with that hope it all works out so you can use it for your tour👍
That looks soooo good. Great idea on the Bluetooth mod. I need to do that.
Cheers mate! May your weekend be filled with pounds and pounds of tasty BBQ.
@@AutoAmateur sometimes it do be like that
Very enjoyable, have you worked out why your gearbox failed?
The transmission bell housing cracking was most likely due to the engine and tranny being out of alignment, most likely due to the IMS solution install performed previously. We're going to try to validate this during the upcoming install.
Love the blue color for sure on the seat belt!!! I'm chicken to do my 991.1 (want red ones) but might get enough courage up watching your other video to do it......
You can do it! Let me know if I can help.
Car is looking great, been a while since I’ve watched your posts due to a divorce and house move - but this build has recaptured my attention and really enjoying the progress. Hopefully I can get another Porsche again soon as I recover from divorce 😂😁
Oh mate, sorry to hear about that!! Are you in the early afternoon beer stage, late night strip club stage or 'gonna hit fuck it and buy my new Porsche' stage...? Take care.
Great video
Im curious to know what is the name of the company that changed the seat belt webbing from black to blue.
Thanks
Hi James, when you installed your seat belts, did you get an airbag warning light? If so, what did you use to switch it off? (A Foxwell or iCarsoft?) Thanks! Your videos are super helpful and inspiring!
Thank you!! Yes, you should be able to clear that error with the iCarSoft tools or similar. The issue could also just be the electrical connection for the airbag sensor. Try some bulb grease.
Love your video but... how often do you have "people" in the back of your 911?
So why not delete the rear belts or one of them because honestly only one person fits back there diagonally, possibly. You can always keep the belts and receptacle. Remember that porsche race cars were about ounces not pounds of weight removed.
I recently got a pccm+ unit but haven't fitted it yet for my 996TT. Want to do deviated belts also.
Suggestion for your door sills is to treat them gently with a heat gun to soften the scratches.
Good suggestion on the door sills, thanks!! My 3 and 4 year old boys like to ride in the back so until they’re too big for that, I’ll leave the rear seats and belts as is.
@Auto Amateur my kids aged out of my 79 930 back seat so many years ago, one of them now owns a 986 S 😂
Good luck in the rocky mountains in a few months. I grew up there, and there's great roads around there. Wyoming Teton pass 22 to Idaho 33 through Victor to the 31 to Swan Valley is an excellent drive over a mountain if you get the chance.
Looking good with the reconditioning James. What are you doing with the old engine? Are you re-installing the IMS solutions into the new engine? Thanks!
Great question Michael! I'm planning to tinker with the old engine. I want to try to tear it down and rebuild it, learn as much as I can from it as a side project. If I screw it up, no worries. If I fix it, rock and roll!
@@AutoAmateur Awesome James! That's what I wanted to do to see up close the inner workings. I need to replace my IMS also. When you get to that point, LMK, I live 20 minutes from you and would like a chance to see inside the engine and teardown procedure.
@@michaelbiegel6973 Sure thing!
Hey………….l forget those seatbelts and find out what’s busting your gearbox! Please Sir
Haha. Fair comment but all in good time... new transmission is here, engine will be ready to install in 2-3 weeks time... almost there. :-)
I'm 6'6" also. So, with the drivers seat out, can we drive this bad boy from the backseat?
Haha. Most likely!! :)
