Since Oathbreaker is a hidden subclass there will be spoilers in the video, you've been warned!
Patch 9 is finally out for Baldur's Gate 3, and it's good enough to get me back and playing the early access! You can finally get to level 5 and they also added the glorious Paladin class to the game- Oathbreaker is not one of the starting two options but it is accessible... by breaking your oath!
This video covers the quickest way to become an Oathbreaker and the new channel oath abilities that will replace your existing subclass's features.

My friend as an Ancient oath paladin broke his oath after killing a goblin named "One" who was running to alert the entire goblin camp.
Yeah killing the goblin kids will usually break your oath, that's why when I play Devotion I just knock them out lol
I’m worried about the oath of vengeance paladin for this reason feel like my party would come unhinged for killing certain characters whereas my oath seems to compel me to kill EVERYONE remotely evil

you can break the oath by letting the goblin out of her cage. works for oath of the Ancients don't know about Devotion. In the grove no need to kill anyone.

Do note that you don't actually need to be Oath of Devotion to break your Oath with the Tieflings. In another stream, somebody broke the Oath of the Ancients by choosing the "attack the tieflings" dialouge option instead of the deception option and proceeding to kill them.
Just happened to me as well with oath of the ancients, I only attacked them when leizel gave me the ultimatum though
I told the goblins in the village that I'd be peaceful and then attacked them. Broke my Oath as a Tiefling Oath of the Ancients
Another way to potentially break your oath is if you surprise attack the thugs that are the temple ruins near the beach. As I was clearing out the thugs inside the temple I got the cutscene for oathbreaker. I assume this is because I attacked before engaging in any sort of dialogue even though the thugs are technically hostile. Either way if you're looking to get oathbreker this is another way to do it.

I broke the oath of the ancients by killing findal in the cave that leads to the druids Grove. Idk if that's a bug tho
I think you can break your oath by killing a non-hostile npc. I attacked the bandits that lead into the tomb & broke my oath as a Ancients Paladin. If they initiated the combat I don't think it happens.
why would that be a bug? killing that helpless midget
Just so you guys know you have to click Persuade to oath break now or click attack the tieflings DURING DIALOGUE (not after), I tried twice with the deception and manual attack and it doesnt work- but that's fine since our save then didn't save and we lost 6 hours progress.

I didn't hear you mention it, but spiteful suffering also causes all attacks against them to have advantage. not a bad opener against tough / high AC enemies.
Great video, playing a paladin right now and really thinking about throwing all that lawful good thingie over the planks

I was an Oath of Devotion Paladin. I broke my oath after attacking the Ventarum in the cave. Apparently slaying people in an evil organization breaks your oath 😂
I was just lying to them not attacking, thats where i was going wrong thanks a lot for this vid
As an oath of the ancients I killed the torture dude when your rescuing Halsin and taking out the Goblin leaders. Kill just walk up to himand attack instantly and kill him than your an Oathbreaker

For anyone wondering, I was oath of the ancient and still broke the oath accidentally while trying to free La zael. The thieflings engaged me first when I convinced them to break the cage and oath immediately broke. Not sure if it was for the fact I lied (even tho I didn’t use the deceipt option, only the persuasion one). So in case you can still break oath of the ancients at the beginning if you wish.

My oath broke by giving Mayrina the ressurection wand after the witch encounter. I just wanted to see the whole quest later on.
Broke my Oath of the Ancients in the Owlbear fight inside the cave, had Gale kill the Owlbear baby and it broke my character's oath despite it fighting the mother.
For me I just attacked the tieflings and it triggered the cutscene.

How do you break your oath if you chose vengeance paladin?
I broke my oath of vengeance when I sided with Elder Brithvar and the rebels in the Grymforge
I went Zariel Tiefling with 16 STR, 15 CON and 17 CHA while dumping the other three. You could go 10 Wisdom but Paladin has advantage on saving throws so...
I literally killed an innocent teifling….released shazza…killed the healer at the grove AND her stupid bird…..idk wtf to do??!!? I killed the owl bear….I still haven’t broken my freaking oath
I got it by killing a goblin guard in the goblin camp after she catched me destroy a drum, it even was next to the drow that you have to kill anyway. Like I like oathbreaker but there are better backstories to becoming one-
I can break my oath of vengeance by choosing to temporarily work with Gortash instead of fighting him. But I’m not sure if it’s worth breaking my oath.
Is there another way to break the oath of devotion than with the Tieflings? I can hardly imagine this being the only instance in the game that will trigger that
Considering how it can be pretty easy to miss, I would think there would be additional ways. But this is definitely the easiest and fastest way
you can kill the tiefling that is in the room of the grove , shes the one that cant stand up because of the potion, you can kill her as well.
It seems like killing any non-hostile npc does. I killed the bandits outside of the tomb before the druids Grove & lost my oath as an Ancients Paladin. I initiated the combat. I don't think it would happen if they initiated the combat.
I killed the goblin by the well when it was neutral to me. Would getting the Mark of the Absolute break the oath?
I don’t see why it would. If you’re devoted to the Absolute, then you’re still Devoted, right?
funny enough, I had a paladin character running through that area (alone), which triggered the entire event, and I accidentally had to fight the tieflings.
I played the Dark Urge (thought I was just picking a dragonborn in race select) and choose to be a paladin. My oath to the ancients was broken when I killed someone in a dark urge cutscene I could not avoid. I've been avoiding that entire aspect of the character for the last 12 hours of gameplay... and to lose it in an unavoidable cutscene bothers the shit out of me.
Especially when, if I try to regain my oath... I don't know if I'll lose it again to another cutscene.

Your dark urges prevent you from keeping your oath. Simple as that.
wow weird this "dark urge" that makes me have evil fucking thoughts background led to me breaking my paladin oaths weird =/

i didnt even get those dialog options to free her, just had an intimidation and that was it
See i can't unlock Oathbreaker because their is no real moral dilemma that kinda forces you especially when you have a specific character in mind.
Killing any not yet hostile npc will do it, I'm sure you could work that into some sort of headcannon
I broke my oath stealth killing the paladins who were hunting for a tiefling. I didn't know it then but considering I also cheesed the goblin bosses in my previous playthrough (as a sorcerer) I decided to break my oath... also I can't afford the oath regain
damn i lied to the tieflings guarding lae'zel than i killed them right after and than i killed those people that are outside the temple ruins and everybody inside either but my oath still intact im playing with a tiefling paladin could this be the problem?

I was an order of ancients and I became an oath breaker pretty much the same way the other subclass does
I don't want watch the video to not spoil any story parts, but how quickly can you manage to break your oath? Was thinking about an oathbreaker with some levels in warlock, with more focus on charisma, so I'd be putting more levels into warlock first for sure. Can I make a paladin and break my oath before the first character level up?
If that's not possible and let's say I manage to break my oath at, let's say level 3 of paladin, will I simply turn into a level 3 oathbreaker and get some stuff to replace my current set-up, or do I go back all the way to level 1? I don't think that's the case, but want to make sure.
Well, I just learned there are no alignments in the game (better late than never lol) so I guess nothing is stopping me from starting as a Paladin, the 3 levels after that will be put into Warlock and everything else into Paladin again. With this none of the above matters really, I was expecting I'd have to juggle between the classes seen as good/evil, before I get the evil Paladin subclass. Pretty sweet!
I'm playing the Dark Urge and seemingly can't break my oath ans an Oath of Vengeance Paladin. Anyone know what gives?
Apparently, you have to be either of Ancients or of Devotion to become Oathbreaker.
Doesn't matter if you are a Tav or Durge
Yea, you just need to sneak attack an enemy to break your oath
Guess i need to restart AGAIN i clicked Vengence cause i like they class but i want to play oathbreaker and Vengence is to damn hard to break

I like better Light of Creation from Bernard. So I try to get to Arcane Tower as fast in act1 as I can. Paired with The Speedy Lightfeet for gaining charges and wearing the Blast Pendant you can get drastically increased lightning damage.
cant seem to find out how to break oath with two paladins, after the first one breaks the oath it seems nothing i do will break the second ones oath
How do you kill the dude that has the everburn blade? Isn't there a time limit
You can usually stack on him and use abilties that secure your hits like guiding bolt and using high ground. The mindflayer will deal most of the damage so you can play around him. After the devil dies, make sure to loot him with your main character as the others cant loot anything until after you get off the ship. Any of your characters can interact with the transponder and its fine if your main dies in that fight so long as they get the blade. Also there isnt a time limit, I've seen people clear that encounter by killing everyone and are free to roam until they interact with the transponder
Not really a time limit, just that if you take too long, more cambions show uo and then it becomes harder to survive the nautiloid. But usually you can just let the mindflayer attack him, and once he gets the "stunned" debuff, you can stack damage on him with guiding bolt, inflict wounds, other debuff spells or just any meelee attacks that do debuff (such as bleeding, weak grip or hamstrung). These will make your hit % a lot higher. Just be sure not to surround the devil with your entire party, because if the mindflayer survives, there's a high chance of it doing an AoE that will wipe out all your characters in one go.
@@politecat9207 as I made a playthrough this weekend, dunno if they changed this but if you kill the devil before the cambions arrive, the mindflayer will turn hostile and say something like "there is no need for you anymore". I didn't test if it is the case if the cambions join the fight though
I just grabbed a ton of purple explosives, put those next to the guy, went far away, broke them with an arrow and let him attack the mindflayer. You gotta put a lot of those though, so it works better with a character that can carry a lot of weight

i know it's only 1 day till the game drops but i still have a question. I did break my oath and had the cutscene but there's no knight in my camp. I can see him for a second when going to sleep but thats it. What am i doing wrong?
I released the captured goblin and that broke it for me.

But how do you get your oath back once you've broken it?
Talk to the Oathbreaker Knight and pay him 2000, at least that is the cost you get after changing to the Oathbreaker subclass

does it matter which oath you take or the oath breaker skills will be the same for both no matter what you choose in begining

In patch 9 atm, with those 2 tieflings there is no Paladin option. Only had Attack and Intimidate option. Anyone else knows what other guaranteed way can i get it very early?
ok nvm, just straight up attacking the tieflings does the trick as well.

Help a wrong-doer escape justice. Free the goblin sazza from the tieflings in the emerald grove for example.

@@Volatile9747 maybe you found out already but look up "How to create a custom party". You can actually open the game 4 times and play multi by yourself.
I always wondered why some of the videos on youtube loook pixelated like sh1t and I recently discovered the reason -> the Twitch videos, when put on YT, looks like 480p shit no matter the quality settings here on yt. Me personaly can't watch any twitch videos on yt anymore :) Time to find YT only streamers as the quality is literaly 2x better.
