Years later when I moved out my mom pointed out the mess that she had an issue with and I picked it up and dusted it off and rolled it up. She found out the 'Mess' was a T-shirt material rug I made with torn shirts when I was younger... with her... as a fun project... yeah she wanted me to clean up my rug.

Well yes, but that applies to the situation. Cleaning a room is a habit you want a child to develop and eventually do out of their own autonomy. Telling them not Don't jump off a ledge is where you'd want the child to obey because this isn't (hopefully not at least) a reoccurring event and eventually as they get older they learn to be more careful when recalling the event itself.

I really find it interesting to hear it from this perspective. I moved out two years ago because the uni I wanted to study at was located 500 km away. There just was no alternative. But firstly is was'nt that big of a deal, except financial. I really had to learn to manage my money.. The thing is, over the last years since I were like 15 or 16 my parents didn't "parent" me as much as they did before. I really had my independence already. Of course I gained a lot more but also hat to take some steps back.. I live in a shared apartment with 6 other students. It's not like dorms, it is "our house" but we live here. Maybe you heard of the term "Wohngemeinschaft" here in Germany. But that means that I can't start cooking at 2 AM which I actually could have at home because my parents have quite a big house.. Not the case here. Right next to the kitchen lives a girl which has to get up at 5 AM, sooo.. No late visits to the kitchen.. Thats just one example.
