@@kevingoodman1245 Its like, mx switches are f tier, but alpacas, hyperglide browns, tangerines, u4t, etc. are s tier in the fact that at least one of the switches, everyone will like.
Hey Josh, you can remap your board's layout with the glorious software to reposition any keys that might be out of place due to pcb assignments/key rows.
You can swap Delete with End so you can have that low profile keycap on the bottom right side so you don't hit it as much when you hit the Right Arrow.
😬 That "GGGGGG" issue could be a switch that needs to be replaced or fixed. Might be hitting the contact point inside the switch.. probably not a software issue Josh.
The thing about the custom keyboard hobby is not only is it expensive (which you're probably used to with headphones) but it requires a LOT of patience with group buys.
On the 'delete' key, check in the set. The one you are using is just the wrong row profile. There may be another in the correct profile. Also, the 'G' key switch likely needs to be replaced. I just had to replace two switches in my GMMK Pro, but all better now! Welcome to the keebs hobby! I currently have 13 and waiting on about 12 more from Group Buys, not to mention about 30 keycap sets from Group Buys. It's a deeeeep rabbit hole! BTW, thanks to your channel around headphones and amps I have 13 headpones/IEMs and nearly as many DACs/Amps! LOL... I have problems. Just got the LCD-X myself based on how much you loved them.
For the ggggggg issue, try moving the switch to another position and check if the problem follows the switch or stays with G. If the new key does it too then you have a chattering switch.
I enjoyed the collab with you two guys. I found Brian about the same time I found you and at that moment I thought people were crazy to spend the amount of money on both their keyboards and audio gear. Now I've got 11 customs on the wall and yoga blocks everywhere with headphones on them. I won't be able to retire now but I've got some pretty neat gear. Also don't try to fix this board with the software or new keycaps, just go out and buy another custom. Just build a collection and depending on how you're feeling or the particular thing you're doing at your desk, use one of your other boards. And that kids is how you spend all your money.
The reason why the del key is lower is that usually, the del key is on a lower row than it. I'm pretty sure the top key is actually supposed to be the Print Screen key as the Print Screen key is usually on the same row and is meant to be on there looking at the glorious website and other people's keyboard
I'm excited to see videos on custom mechanical keyboard from you in the future. The hobby is hard to get into but very satisfying. I built my first keeb almost a year ago and I still love it!
I don't think that the "ggggggggggg" issue is due to software. Open up the switch and check to see if there's any lube within the leaf of the switch. That's usually what causes that problem.
@@wrliggin2 they're definitely nice. I don't see myself ever going back to a membrane keyboard. I managed to find myself a decent keyboard for about $60 fully hotswappable as well as a $50 keycap set from Amazon. Modded the case with some foam and lubed the switches. I gotta say, it's pretty solid.
When you use custom keycaps usually you need to check if they are made for the row you put it on so your del key is not meant to be put in the top row but in the third row. I suggest to put the print key in that position, some kits have a cool f13 key for that layout eheheh. Plus I strongly suggest starting with a cherry profile for newcomers, mt3 is a bit peculiar.
Awesome keyboard review, especially by someone who's new to the hobby! However, I will add that this board was actually *supposed* to be not very stiff - that's the whole point of the gasket mount, which was a central part of their marketing. A gasket mount board has the switch plate supported by a rubber ring, as opposed to other mounting systems which directly connect the plate directly joined to the metal keyboard body. It's very much "in" right now for the plate to have some bounce because it offers a less harsh typing experience, and (apparently?) offers more desirable acoustics as well. A lot of people in the keyboard community were actually very disappointed by the stiffness of this board, which seemed contrary to the entire nature of the gasket mounting system.
I'm using those same caps right now - it's my favorite profile these days. Starting with a keyboard like this is like having a new Corvette as your first car - yeah, it does get better from there - but diminishing returns aren't far away as far as cost goes. From here, I think it will be more about finding what aspects you like, because there's a ton of stuff to customize in the hobby.
