I currently have a better rig, although it is close to what you have listed for a budget PC. I am looking to upgrade but am not finding good resources on what you need for the hardware - especially in terms of what you need vs what you don't really need. I'd love to go all out for a 4090 rig, but don't know if it will really make a huge difference over a lesser system. This video was a huge help...please can you update the specs even once a year or generation of new hardware! It would very much be appreciated!
So itd be a better choice to go with nvidia bc you will end up paying more in the electricity bill slowly with amd. It depends on your preference though and what you use it for

I last tried VR a several years back with PSVR on a PS4 Pro. But I ended up selling the headset so I could buy a Nintendo Switch. Now it’s six years later and I’ve switched to PC gaming. I’m definitely curious to try VR again and play HL: Alyx. Maybe I can find a good deal on the Oculus/Meta 2 ?
the motion controllers are horendous on psvr. psvr was just mostly correcting tracking problems and a cheap solution to vr at 200+200 bucks. investing in a 1200 bucks pc right now to go pc vr hoping that is enough.
i would highly recommend the quest 2 if you are getting back into the swing of things, they are rather cheap on the meta store and pick up either the bobovr hot swappable battery headset to extend your wireless gaming time, or get a pc link cable that allows you to charge the headset as you play such as the AMVR upgraded pc link cable.
The 4080i still dont know what is smarter. Go for a second hand 3090ti with 26 gb or go for the 4080 super that doesn’t have 20 but 16 gb vram. There arround the same price but the 3090ti is slightly cheaper. Can some advise? I only use it for VR on the Quest 3 with sim racing games and always have a extra screen for friends to watch
I have a 7600 right now and I’m upgrading to a 7800xt. (7600 works great for online sim racing, but when you play servers like no hesi you have to bump the graphics all the way down to get 60 FPS and the game just looks horrible)

I have a 1650 super R5 3600. And it works great with Steam. Meta Quest 3. Also using the link cable. Still going to upgrade the Rig but overall it works great with decent graphic med/low.

@@ScatterVolt thank you. I think what really confuses me (based on reading around on forums) is that the quality of GPU does not always depend on how new the model is (RTX 3070 could actually better than RTX 4XXX). From a consumer point of view, it really complicates things a bit.
as far as gpu's go, my laptop that i have had for 5 years and use for vr gaming has a a 2060 TI and it works perfectly fine when using a pc link cable.

Depending on the resolution and frames you want if you game with vr or just game normally. Pc's can obviously give you many more frames and resolution choices.

Fluid motion frames turned my rx 6800 into a VR Sim racing beast! Rx 6800 now runs my vr racing games equally to my 4090. It's unbelievable!

Look into the ryzen "X3D" series. they have a large L3 cache, which is almost essential for VR.
Example:
I run a 3060 (12gb) and a ryzen 7 5800x3d with a quest 2, 32gb of ram. runs perfectly.

VR on PC nowadays as vastly superior to whatever your PS4 VR experience was years ago. I’d look into it again if you have the chance.

Alyx is nearly four years old at this point. All you needed was a RTX 2000 series GPU to run that game well at the time.
