- Liverpool FC - Bill Shankly - LIVERPOOLS GREATEST MANAGERS
Liverpool legend Bill Shankly, took over at Liverpool in 1959 when they were in the second tier of English football and took them to League, FA Cup and European Glory. Kevin Keegan, Emlyn Hughes, Ian Callaghan, Ian St John, Roger Hunt, Ron Yeats. The story of the man who made Liverpool, Shanks. Liverpool FC Documentary. # Liverpool
If it’s hard for you to fathom how great this man was. Let me tell you, Liverpool Football Club would not be the size and successful club it is today without him.
you are absolutely correct .L.F.C .

Liverpool would be Derby County today without this incredible man.
The foundations at that time ,all them years ago were dug very deep and very wide .

Shankly Changed Liverpool Completely
Lovely hotel aswel
I'm a Manutd fan but Shanks is one of my all time idols. A great man.
Respect ,from a Liverpool fan (not even British)😊
Same here, we are probably the same gereration. As Busby was the founder of the modern Man United, Shankly was the genius that founded Liverpool. Two truly great clubs, but if we lose to the 'scousers' I'm in mourning for a month; at least. Never had a problem with Liverpool supporters except, one day in a Liverpool pub in Litherland, we decided, self and 3 newly acquired drinking partners, to pick the best 11 from both teams. I had 9 MU in my team, as I knew the 3 'scousers' would have a minimum of 10 in theirs; I was wrong, they had all
11. One of the best nights, and arguments (very friendly) in my life; I think.
@@nicholasconnolly2227 Shankly, Busby, Mercer.
The three great managers of their time.
Bill Shankly.
THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DID.
Natural enthusiasm your nothing without it !!!YNWA
Anther Socialist This Man Made Me Fallen In Love With Liverpool Football Club, And Made Liverpool My English Team,
No manager can touch this man , i dont care what theyve won , this man started an institution not only managed a football club but turned that club into the giant it is today with his stamp well and truly ingrained in everything it stands for. His spirit lives today everytime you here the kop roar. Made us the mighty REDS ! god bless Shanks ..YNWA
I am so grateful that you have uploaded this legend. He changed Liverpool completely.
As an Ayrshireman, I can attest to the fact that we all adore Shankly, even those who don’t support liverpool love the man because he exemplifies what we all strived for from working class mining communities
What a great man and manager , sadly missed , great great man . I’m a Celtic fan and we all loved Shankly
As someone who has managed people, understanding the magic of building them up is one of the most incredibly powerful tools there are out there
I am an Evertonian but good people are good people and I really admire some of these Liverpool greats. Obviously Shankly but also the likes of Ian StJohn and Ron Yeats.
He found Anfield in rotten wood and left it in marble..Shankly. Like no other.
Great manager. His departure was interesting. Some players are on record as saying the relationship between Shankly and the board had deteriorated over his last few years and the board began to resent the fact "they signed the cheques" but Bill got the glory
Really loved this video. Shankly brought the tactics and the sports science forward, along with winning multiple trophies. (NUFC fan)
Died in the wool Leeds United fan, but nothing but admiration for this great man. The foundation he lay down set up the great dynasty that followed.
Liverpool v Leeds FA Cup. My friend and I David planned to go to this game. In those days you mainly paid at the gate. Although we lived over the water on the Wirral, it isnt that far just 8 miles but nevertheless we set off very early as we new Anfield would be packed. We caught bus, train and bus arrived at the ground at 10 o'clock. We were well prepared hot and cold drinks and sandwiches (jam butties really). Eventually nature took it's course and I was desparate for a wee. On my weigh back feeling so relieved, a man from behind patted me on my head "Good morning son a bit early" It was Shankly. Even to this day I feeling like kicking myself. I was so in awe of the man I couldn't speak let alone ask for his autographThe way he spoke with his great Scottish grit. I remained open mouthed until getting back to David, who by this time was also kicking himself. We sat on the floor outside the Anfield road end, our Mums, bless them, wouldn't allow us to go into the Kop. A man appeared carrying several cameras who asked us how long had we been here. We told him and he took our photo and said "You be in The Liverpool Echo tonight boys" which we were. The game ended 0-0 Liverpool lost the replay, but what a day.
love that story
Speaking as a Spurs fan(A life long sufferer) I don't mind admitting if I see anything on the Net about this Legendary character I'm stopped in my Tracks!
.To say he was fascinating and inspiring is totally understating his importance!
..And when I look at Politics&Politicians around the World(who are all self serving BS Artists,Liars and Hypocrites on all sides)
You look at Bill Shankley and could easily imagine him as a major player in the Labour Party (The old school Party which represented the average working man&woman in the street & not today's pretentious 'Champagne Socialists')
But enough of my Political rant!!&back to the football!
What he did for Liverpool, paving the way for Bob Paisley(who was also a tremendous Manager) & today's Manager!..
And he gave the People of that Lancashire City, Pride in the Team &themselves!!.
A true Legend...'They broke the Mold' So may his Soul rest in peace.
Absolutely well said Jerry so true and I’m a Chelsea fan… Bill’ ‘man of the people for the people’.
God bless you. Spurs are a sleeping giant too. Y.N.W.A
Well said. Cheers!
@@SKa-tt9nm There's not many well known people,( from past or present) who grab my attention Peter Ustinov did ( still does) because he was fascinating, multi talented& extremely witty&could laugh at himself..And then was Shankly who could command the stage without even trying & was always dignified
SHANKLY LIVES forever ❤
Great Scots managers Ferguson, Busby, and Shanks 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
I lived in old skem young lad then shanks came to ground scoutin as new maneger.awsome man .l f c for life .ynwa 😊😊😊

My dad actually met bill shankly and with him was Bobby charlton he asked for his autograph and the pen my dad gave him ran out half way through his signature my dad said can you sign it again and bill shankly said I never sign my name twice sonny and he pulled out a red pen out of his pocket and finished the signature in red ink and he still has the red pen and autograph to this day it was 1976 at anfield.
Wow. Why not put it up?
Shankley invented Liverpool as we know them today. Absolute genius of a manager.
I’m a Man U fan life long but bill was the absolute dogs. Legend
Shanks was a legend and your video was a great watch. Thanks again for the video on Bill!

"Football is A Simple Game Complicated by Men" Eternal Legend Bill Shankly!
Peter Mike met bil shankly outside Anfield on a match day, we both have bill shankly autograph 🥰🥰😙
My era, where you would climb the stairs to the Kop....legends never die. YNWA
Peter Mike Campbell once met bill shankly outside Anfield on a match day late 60s rest in peace Mr. Bill shankly 🥰🥰🥰
As a Liverpool fan, I'm watching this in 2024 after Jurgen Klopp had managed his last game against Wolves. 😢
The Man The Myth The Hero of The Kop! The Eternal Legend! Shankly Shankly Shankly.........
People forget that when he took charge in 1959 Liverpool were in The Second Division ... They got into The First Division in 1962! ... he did many thigs, but One Stands Out! in the November of 1964 he changed the kit from white shorts and socks to All Red!.
Fun fact, since 62 no Liverpool team has finished lower than 8th. This is some legacy.
*_"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."_*
It's the League Cup Final today at Wembley, Liverpool vs Chelsea. Come on lads, do it for Shankly, _and_ Paisley, and of course for Jürgen Klopp. #LFC #YNWA
Great video but I hate that none of these editors don't understand that the music should never derail from the speech. If that happens, then the speech won't land. Music needs to embrace the speech and not completely take over. Many moments where I had to hard focus on what was being said just because the music was so loud. I don't get it what's with this fascination with music over words. Makes no sense to me.
All managers for LFC are Legends, some more popular but all respected. Its the LFC way,
Would you say that Roy Hodgson was a legend for the club?
Great man, fantastic manager.
I think you can cultivate natural enthusiasm.
Same feeling as the end of this video after hearing klopp departure 😪🥺🥺🥺
Brilliant upload thanks. Only one correction needed. Liverpool players celebrating at 27.17 is game v St Étienne in 1977 under Bob Paisley
Good eye, thanks for highlighting. Some spelling mistakes in the video also.
It's so sad when at 25:08 where the fans are in shock and don't believe Shankly retired. He probably would have led Liverpool to those European Cup wins as well, but he laid the foundation for the team to DOMINATE the mid 70's and early 80's. He was the one that built that team up to be great and Bob Paisley was a wonderful caretaker that didn't mess up the formula. It's sad that stress like you saw with Klopp took so much of that great man. Some can handle the stress and go on for many years like Sir Alex and there are some that the stress get to their bodies and they HAVE to retire to rest their bodies.
The stress gets to their families too and that will often be the breaking point. When Kenny left it was because he recognised he needed away from the stress to properly come to terms with the effects of Hillsborough and I would not be surprised if his family were as much of the reason.
With klopp I think it was likely more his wife said enough. He said when he changed his mind and signed his extension that his wife had final say. If she told him that she felt like it was time to go he'd go I have no doubt.
@@bionicgeekgrrl the same thing happened with Sir Alex. When his wife sister died, his wife wanted him to be around more at the house especially when it came to his wife. Plus Sir Alex was in his early 70's so it was time to retire anyway. Sadly his wife died last year.
The one and only
anyone else got hairs standing up on the back of their neck watching this in 2023 ?
Hard work ❤
There's more to shanks just retiring, he and the club never met or crossed paths again!
He was to powerful, if he’d have ran for prime minister everyone would have voted for him. I think he scared the political institutions.
Shanklyvolution
SO SIMILAR TO KLOPP!!
hopefully we get our next Paisley near 60 years later!
I was thinking the same thing
No chance.
Arne slot won his conpetive debut match on the same day paisley won his
YNWA ❤️
I’ve often wondered what shanks would have made of modern day players. I appreciate some prob do consider the fans but no many I’d say. I believe shanks would agree with me that football has lost its way a bit. Tbf jurgen went some lengths to restore that ethos, many thanks mien freund
one of all time greats, when shanks retired people talking great stuff who needs phones?
A great man. A true socialist. The father of modern LFC. A Legend. YNWA Bill.
A proper manager, wouldn't be have made a brilliant politician.
Was just thinking that. People like him and Busby were in a way, wasted on football. We need leaders like him and we get boris johnson.
The Boss of all Bosses.
as a manchester united fan,id take 1 shanks for a 1000 fergusons
Nice try.
I think they can make a film about Brian clough how about Bill shankley better than clough we were in the second division
For sure,I would def go to see it on the "Big Screen"
Clough brought Forrest up from second division obscurity is well😂
Many say both shankly and Clough would not have been successful without right hand men Paisley and Taylor
@@willleon9165 That's a fair&accurate comment...What Clough did with Notts forest was amazing&most likely we'll never see the likes off again.
But I suppose if there was one difference,it appeared Clough rubbed many people up the wrong way, where Shankley somehow managed to maintain the respect of his opponents& Critique's..
Clough brought TWO mediocre second division clubs to the top division and made them BOTH champions. That is why he gets special mention
Did I see Jimmy Greaves having a punch up 😂
whats with the music?
He died an Evertonian. He was disgusted with how Liverpool fc treated him after he retired.
He stood on the Kop after retiring and was at the 1977 European Cup Final in Rome.
The fuckin don 1 of 1 no one like him boss ❤ shanks LFC
😇😇😇😇😇🥲😍😍😍😍😍😍❤❤❤❤ YNWA
I hope our boys understand what LFC is.
6:43 man United players need to hear that
I believe Manu just got rid of the one of the few players in their changing room that lived up to that ideal. In the premier league now, which players do you think still play for the club and fans and not just the pay cheque?
MY mentor ; the Dad i lost made me sad..
..the man who MADE LIVERPOOL into a global entity a true socialist which knew life over politics & football... HONESTY & truth is PHILOSOPHY! #REdGEMnet
.."we will get left behind" ? I ASK... again, left behind what? its posisble to hide in your room watch Lfc even from a VIP box, but ignoring that "value" is an illusion, currency is fake, USA has more debt than the rest of the world but still preaches and uses the USD ,, just coloured paper, politicians are poking the bear via pawn Kiev , on the brink of WW3 with chino-russian alliance , a global tsunami is already wiping out areas of this planet and accelerating
... modern fans just keep on inflating the baloon which already burst, IF UEFA were not corrupt the blue mancs would be in a lower division but there is no police to police the police.. lies and cheating... you think can go on forever, ? what can Henry & co do? ... they can offer shares at leass than 50 euros per to global support until at least 50 per cent is shared amongst 30 million global fan base, if you bothered to watch any of our videos we have been campaigning since between 2007/2010 ,,so i now ask in return WHY do you trust the sharks after all the things they have done..
.................. .
Newcastle "standing in their way" - more like meekly stepping aside. Embarrassingly one-sided final.
Before the internet and social media 25:01
What's with the Liverpool crest on a Preston shirt!??
Get it off!
He made the people happt
Who is the number 10 in the white shirt getting laid out?
J.N.Klopp is Shanks 2.0.
He has the same connection with the fans
Who would have thought 22 blokes kicking a football about could be elevated to this level of idolatry by the MSM and public.
A Socialist and a God.
The Child amazed is awesome! 26.00
What a Man!
You'd have won even more with Jimmy sirrel as your number two you were a legend at Anfield he was a legend at meadow Lane
Hee went into the managers office a Preston and said " how come he gets 18 quid a week and im only getting 16 a
week ,manager said he's a
better player than you, shanks said ,,aye but not in the summer,
