Hi Lawrence, I have a tip for you that i rencently "discovered" by myself for grinding quarters or bowls. It's practicing bowl carving till you feel very comfortable. Once you learn to stay at 90º with the ramp staying near the coping, you can fully skate the ramps. That translates directly to grinding, because instead of thinking "I'm going up this ramp to do a soul at the top" you begin to think "I'm going to skate to the top till i'm paralel very close to the coping and then I'll slide my foot into it". Maybe this just works for me and my very poor motor coordination, but it has made a huge difference. I used to have a lot the problem of putting my hand down since i like to bend a lot, but since i have practiced and got comfortable with bowl carving (2 weeks ago) i don't miss a soulplate trick and i'm finally learning new topside tricks and alley-oops, and it feels awesome
Certain tricks like top soul or back Royale or true miz will just fall into place like this. I used to think of it as just carving hard as I could. But that's a good way to describe it.
I’m 39 years old and stopped skating about 20 years ago. I went to get out my K2 Fatty skates again recently and they literally started turning to dust. The plastic crumbled and turned to powder. I took that as a sign that my skating days were over but watching this has given me hope. Now you got me shopping for skates lol.
I'm also 39 and recently had a random urge to get out my old K2 Fatty's. I wanted to hold off on buying skates to see if I was gonna stick with it but my K2's only lasted two months before the plastic in the front came off. Long story short I ended up buying some Them skates and couldn't be happier.
My son recently got into skateboarding so we have been visting the local park. After a year of boarding ive ordered some usd sway and cant wait to get back at it. Its been about 15 years since i tried. Thanks for your great videos and getting everyone pumped. Sweet royales dude
Just like to say thanks. And well done. The way you show us your progress instead of talking about how to do it. You show us and explain. It’s perfect for me. Stay protected g. Peace and love xx
Wow man this is amazing I used to skate in the 2000s im now 33 and going to buy some skates . And as for sole grinds I used to find if I kept my top have of my body inside the lamp things used to be easier.
I still have my skates in the attic, haven't thrown them on it about 13years but watching your video makes me want to hit a park again and see if i still got it
Dude, i miss skating so much. I was really good when i was a kid and teen. Use to do back flips and 540s grind. Man i miss it think i might get back into but I'm old now haha
Man! that bit with the camera at the bottom of the pipe, that looked really cool! great job! I need to get out to the skate park more, mini ramps intimidate me, so i think i need to tackle that next!
So rad. Glad I found your channel. I live that there are a bunch of 30-40 year old dudes back on skates. Had mine on yesterday. Put my shims bloodlines on first and man they just felt so heavy. Ended up skating my old razors gen 7s from 2009 . Still love the gens.
Love your channel. I wouldn't change a thing. Great work. I might suggest that you can give a little commentary on certain attempts but show us the attempts as your voice is over it. Just a suggestion. Keep up the great work! Really inspiring for someone like me that's over 30.
I found the soul grind at 11:08 looked better than the one at 8:43. The one at 8:43 your center of gravity seemed kinda far back and if the coping had been a bit slicker you probably would have slipped out on your butt, whereas at 11:08 it looked like if there would be no friction, you'd just slide forever, perfectly in balance over the back foot. Of course you're best placed to judge where your center of balance was, the camera can't convey the feeling. I love how you break down how it feels and why you think you nailed it or failed it.
This may come from years of martial arts, but I know that regardless of the sport I need balance, I always make an effort to focus on my core and locking my abs in as I land the trick. I also try to have my core in the center of gravity (for that particular trick and body position). Not for every one but I feel it helps, whether skiing, snowboarding, skating and rollerblading. Great video as always and the s for sharing
Awesome video man! I was anxious to get back into inlining since i'm feeling a bit old (28) But this for sure gave me a confidence boost and just the feeling that I can still get into it! Thanks :D
Man I've started and stopped again twice since I was your age lol. Skated 95-2002.2006-09. 2015-17. Put em back on yesterday well see what comes. You gotta get out there your still young
Nice. Progression. Love it. That's where I'm at sort of... just not copings, I suck at copings still. But the past few days I started forcing myself to skate switch (which I never learned before) and started coming up with routines to do on flat with just spinning switch, switch leg back when skating forward, switch leg forward when skating backwards which translated to me actually being comfortable to jumping into some switch grinds (Makio, Mizou, and Porn so far). I really think it's great what you're doing with the copings I'm motivated to throw that in now too into my progression. The low stretched out souls look good!
Thanks! It’s humbling to start over but I need to learn properly to progress. I’m such a ledge skater, this feels foreign. Switch spins are on the list!
I love to watch your videos, it´s so much inspiring. I am a begginer in aggressive staking, and every video showing how to do tricks is valuable. Thanks.
its good when you get a breakthrough day aint it!!. especially when you can identify what is making the difference. It was clear to see the improvement. Ive noticed that when you skate the box sometimes at Durham, that you mak a similar error to jumping at the coping rather than waiting. Only in that case it is trying to force the slide by pushing you feet out rather than letting the soul or H-block carry you, (fair enough the run up isnt the best ever in that location) i can see the fail coming immedialty you start pushing the front leg out. so that is also sometihng to think about. Of course getting the momentum to carry you the length of the box is another thing. congrats on making that breakthrough. all the best.
ill just add this.. mental rehearsal. run through that perfect grind you did today in your mind several times bofore you go to sleep. every night this week. i also do a self assesement before i sleep at ngiht after skating and run through what was wrong and how to change it.then rehearse it how it should be. dont go kicking your wife in your sleep though haha. all the best
super cool! i used to skate back in the day, and just today got me some K2 broadway skates, and after falling and breaking my wrist :/ I saw this channel... I want to get into aggressive skating again though. I want to get some USD VII in size US 10, but seems like not much out there. Where can I go?
I skated from early 90s till early 2000s,I'm about to get back into it I think I was 15 years old saved up and got majestic 12s they were the shit back than !!
@@BacktoBlading I just started aggressive and I can't wait to be able to shred like you. I wanna learn vert but maybe I shouldn't get ahead of my self.
It's crazy how alike we are on coping. I find it so hard to get my soul foot on. I'm going to try your idea. I tried the "aggressive mall coping grinds" method as he says he jumps onto the coping from around a foot away. I feel a lot safer attempting a topside trick on coping. It's the main place I get injured so try to do it less
I’ve heard from some amazing skaters who are great at coping. They all say you should essentially roll into the coping for grinds. Jumping from a foot below is still too much. Feels so weird, but when I lock it I feel solid. Good luck, lemme know how you do
@@BacktoBlading I think I try looking at it like a box if I carve enough and get the angle. I've just uploaded a vid but it was on a curb as it was heavy rain but I got true miz and switch true miz ☺ idc if I never learn coping were at the age now where just wanna have fun
@@BacktoBlading I was confused about sizing because I have UK size 8.5 feet so I went for size 9 Razor SLs, which also come with a size 9 Reign liner. The shells are a bit bigger than my feet, I probably could have got away with going down a shell size, but my feet fit absolutley perfectly in the liners, and once the liners are in the shells there's no movement (apart from a very slight bit of heel lift inside the liner, but thick socks fix that). So overall I'm pretty happy with the size I picked
You are improving tons...looks good, for your soul grinds try not to put so much weight on your back skate and get upright a little more and you should be good. But waxing the coping....that would be a death sentence at my local parks lol
Im 36 last time i skated i was 19..but im getting my roces out the shed..i wonder what il b like..in my prime i could grind hand rails and do 540's..now il b too scared to do a poly rail 🤣🤣
I'm no expert on coping by any means, but what I'm seeing you do ( I do the same) is you need to stand taller on souls. It looks like your getting to low, and most the time you just fall down the ramp. Look how tall you stand on a normal soul on a ledge and compare that to your coping souls.
I went through a period of “ cant hit a soul on coping to save my life “. So I stared doing soul stalls in the beginning of every session. Until I feel confident enough to slide. It worked for me.
Leo , I do this all the time myself, I know the safe way to fall is to go “jello legs” and just fall down the ramp. So I almost land “jello legs” preparing for the worst.
Leo , just baby steps .. 2weeks ago I never skated a mini or bowl, now I can do stalls , few grinds, sort of air? every time you go you’ll get a little better wether that’s 5% better or 1%, it’s all progress.
Back to Blading , can’t wait to try your tip “ riding up to it, rather than jumping” Im in the same space I feel as you, ledges are my comfort zone, and I don’t fully understand coping. But I think that tip may click something in my brain. .
I just picked up skating again after ~17 years and I want to thank you for posting this! (Especially the tip about waiting for the coping)
Thanks! Welcome back, great to have more of us. Us ledge skaters are so impatient with coping. Just wait an extra few and you’ll be laughing
