'Twas A Bible Accurate Christmas...

- The Nativity is one of the best-known stories of all time, but there are some weird parts to the original tale that often get overlooked. What's more, there are a bunch of non-Christian elements, like gifts, trees, and mistletoe, that were originally pagan customs.
What was the first Christmas actually like? And where do all the unusual traditions come from? In this video, we'll investigate the Christmas story as depicted in the Bible, and explore the many nuances and misunderstandings of the original text. Of course, no one can ever be truly "Bible Accurate", so note that these depictions are entirely subjective.
However you celebrate this period, or don’t celebrate it at all, I wish you peace and happiness in whatever you get up to. Thank you for 437k subscribers!

P.S. Oh, and in case you notice in my voiceover, I had a slight winter's cold at the time!

#Christmas
I hate it when you and your homies be wandering in the desert, and then a lovecraftian machine gang pulls up and starts chanting and singing
"Be not afraid."
I love how “biblically accurate” doesn’t really even mean biblically accurate anymore- it just means lots of eyes
The gifts of the Magi: Frankincense - a gift for a priest. Gold - a gift for a king. Myrrh - a gift for a corpse (burial prep). Religious leader. King of kings. Ultimate martyr.
Ophanim: Be not afraid.
Ophanim: “Be not afraid.”
Lol, that scene of countless angels singing in the sky, while people terrified by this "alien invasion", is just so... Pure enjoyment. XD
The whole being born in the feeding trough thing is a nod to Christ’s destiny. In Israel at that time, sacrificial lambs were put in mangers and brought to the temple to be inspected for blemishes. If the lamb was without flaw it would be fit for sacrifice. Also, the manger being a feeding trough brings to mind the Eucharistic destiny of Christ as our spiritual food for the journey, aka bread of life. As a bonus, Bethlehem translates to house of bread in Hebrew.
Twas a biblically accurate Christmas
Angels: “Be not afraid”
I’ve always wanted a biblically accurate angel tree topper. It would look so strange but cool. Glad that some people are willing to talk about what the Bible actually says. The actual depictions can be horrifying
can we acknowledge though, that the shepherds kept their calm after seeing a literal army of angels coming down from the heavens while singing? that is pure bravery
A note about the "Biblically accurate" angels: not all angels are interlocking rings of eyes. Those are just the ophanim, who the prophet Ezekiel sees in a vision. There is actually a whole hierarchy of angels, some pleasant, some terrifying.
It surprises me to learn that people didnt know about the whole baby slaughter thing. I went to a Catholic middle school and they taught us that around Christmas lol
Shepherds:
"The shepherds promptly fled the scene in a desperate attempt to find this miracle child."
I learned about the newborn slaughter story during my church days, I had no idea it was unknown.
I can kinda see why most Christmas specials skip the part where several newborns are slayed.
The infanticide is completely consistent with Herod’s character, and since Bethlehem was a small village the number of victims would have been fairly low. Judah was a backwater of the empire and such a minor event would have drawn no outside attention, although of course the poor folk of the place would have it seared into their memories. I see no reason to discount the historicity of Matthew’s account.
There was a theory I heard on why Josephus did not write about the Slaughter. It might have been because Bethlehem was a very small place( roughly fifteen hundred residents), therefore there may not have been hundreds of babies killed, but only a few. This might explain why Luke did not hear about it. Not to mention, if Josephus had heard about it, he may not have been impressed by it enough to write about it, considering how small a spectacle it was compared to other scenes Herod made, seeing as he had extremely bloodthirsty habits, Augustus himself said: “I would rather be Herod’s pig than his son.”
