      I seems like in the United States people like these get twice the prison sentence then in the UK. I am not sure why but in the US a lot of prisons are privately owned. There is a financial incentive to keep a prison full.

      I find it so weird that a sentence can be increased on an appeal. That would be a nice thing to have. Sometimes juries just get it wrong

      I wish we were like the USA where murderers of children and people in general are either jailed for life without parole or they are on death row. Unfortunately the both of them should get life imprisonment and no way for a chance to receive parole.

      I have two friends, who where and still are together were HIgh school sweethearts. At the end of their senior of High school they had a baby on the way..jump to 28 years later the “said teen pregnancy” has produced a well adjusted, happy and bright kid, who is now a Man and has finished Medical School. I remember talking to my two freiends years ago about what the hell they where going to do being so young? The good thing is both had common sense, both knew their lives was no longer about hanging out with friends and acting dumb as hell. They equally buckled up, had hiccups and struggled through…but managed to build a life not only for themselves, but for their child. Unfortunately, this is not the case for everyone, but these two just worked hard and had friends and family that helped when needed, their parents refused to cuddle them, but supported them when sh*t got to be two much. I feel and they have admit, it was what helped them become strong partners and a good parent. NOW, years later they are still together and I was shocked as sh*t when they announced a baby sister was on the way. Oy vay! But hey they did not mess up the 28 yr so a new born is doing pretty good . Big brother was shocked but excited to have a sister coming.
      I wish that Star had a mother and father or good partner that her mom would have brought into her life. It is unfortunately, that this little sweetheart had to live like this and meet this piece of 💩 her mother chose to be with, regardless of her child hurting. I am sickened by parents who abuse and let abuse happen to a so-called partner, who is just pure evil.

      So true Vicki. The tragedy is that Britain's social services were broken in the 1960s when I went through the system. In a children's home in Portsmouth, myself and another teenager became aware that the house "father" was molesting a couple of the younger girls. (Back then, there were no WWC checks so the only qualification needed to run a children's home was a marriage certificate). When we reported this to our respective social workers, we were both called liars. The problem IMHO is that social workers are mostly young, childless, middle-class, university educated and therefore ill-equipped to deal effectively with the type of low-life parents who hurt children. Or to recognise struggling families who could thrive with a little help. To fix it (and their chronic staff shortages), I would open the job up to us University of Life types who have lived a bit, who aren't easily intimidated and who can generally tell when we're being lied to.

      My family has had social services intervention over false reports. The child in question is a happy healthy child who has no issues and is in a loving home. Their single parent has had social services involved since the split from their partner and honestly the harassment our family has to see from them over a happy healthy child is absurd

    • @heatherweeks1487
      @heatherweeks1487 Рік тому +5

      Social services ruined my life and almost completely destroyed our family. A private agency and two different council districts made up such lies and false reports. One example being that I was accused of neglecting and starving my daughter while my son was quite a little chunky monkey, so I was obviously giving everything to one and none to the other - when the truth was I was watching my ten year old wasting away in front of my eyes. We had endless doctors appointments, daily weigh ins with CAMHs, child welfare at school, blood tests, force feeding, various therapies every day and my ten year old wouldn't eat. We were screaming for help and had every professional involved and barely surviving each day watching our tiny girl slowly dying - and beating me up on a daily basis because I was the one who was forcing her into treatment so she took her frustration out on me in a physical way, but social services changed the facts to fit their narrative, to tick their boxes. In my job I have to work with social services every day but I will never trust a social worker again. I've never met a competent one. It's heartbreaking that they're not interested in doing the right thing enough to have saved this innocent baby :-(

    As a former Met. Police officer and a child protection/sexual offences specialist I am gob smacked at the current raft of like offences. I believe there is a lot to learn about how services work in very overstretched circs and the lack of training and ‘not wanting to upset parents’ culture. Police officers of certain ranks and specialist are being brought into the job with little to no experience and that is never a good thing. Parents, relatives, teachers and concerned parties need to be listened too, after all what happened to the 24hr action time social services are required to respond with an active plan?

    • @lianneamington1791
      @lianneamington1791 2 роки тому +22

      John, Ive worked in child protection for over 23 years and have been a SW for 12. Its sickening what’s happened and I agree with almost all of what you have said. SS have 24 hours to decide on an appropriate response. That might be to gather further info, close the case, have strategy discussion or meeting if they think the child is at risk of significant harm that may impair their development and or to complete an assessment. I’m guessing a SM took place given Star underwent a CP medical, by the sounds of things. I can tell you that my experiences are that if the Consultant Paediatrician does not confirm the injury as non accidental, and they often sit on the fence, you have no basis to conclude the child has been physically abused. It’s really difficult to know what’s happened here as there isn’t a SCR to draw from. But I always tell SWs in these senarios that 1) go unannounced 2) if the child is verbal speak to them alone 3) Observe in the presence of care givers. 4) ask for the child to have its nappy/clothing changed in your presence if a baby/toddler and to have them move. 5) information gathering from agencies and family is key. Although if we haven’t initiated a CP investigation we need parental consent to do so/and to feed back to the family referrer (unless they have PR), otherwise we face risk of breach of GDPR (my head hurts) and finally and most importantly if the Police take no further action that’s not our sign to with draw. If we think a child has been abused in any way, on the balance of probability, and that the risk is unmanageable to a point where they are at risk of continued significant harm/or that harm has occurred (that impairs development) we can ask a Court to make a public law order to move the child from the parents care. In an emergency we can apply for an EPO or ask the Police to use Powers of Protection.

      @johnlumb1078 2 роки тому +6

      @@lianneamington1791 Hi Lianne, my comments were mostly aimed at the policing side and immediate SS response. I agree that paediatricians are notoriously seen on the fence. The lack of APPROPRIATE follow ups and investigations have led directly (in my op) to these deaths. I used to visit homes and always look at their loo and you can tell a lot from someone’s loo believe me, they needed to make immediate or as immediate as possible, visits without ringing and making appointments. Emma covered that well enough.
      You are correct with what you tell SW’s ask to hold the child or look/play with them then see their reaction. Let -people complain it’s about the child not someone felt upset.
      I have investigated and brought to court so many young persons as well only to see the social worker being their best mate and overstepping boundaries through the lack of instruction and god knows what else. Believe me I have been very frustrated in the past and the red tape is unbelievable even when I was doing it but if your instincts are correct then there may be ways around it, however as you say if you have not met anyone that’s hard to go on…..but proper background checks would help but not in this case obviously.
      My main beef sadly is with the police and the Senior SW who make these decisions without actually taking time….which is hard when u have no time I get it…to look properly esp if multiple independent sources have come forward.

    I had the same abuse as Baby P and ended up signing myself into care. My parents put on an act of being wonderful, and I was out of control, when in fact, I was quiet and in the top class at school, with no criminal record then or now. I was running away, for my life. The main social worker, from one visit, thought my parents were wonderful because they offered her coffee and biscuits. Later on, at the care home, the staff realised I was a good kid, and after a visit from my mother and grandmother who dropped their guard, and still terrified one of my teachers 20 years on because she said she honestly thought they were going to kill each other, a letter was sent out immediately, saying they would not be having access to me again. That behaviour was going on every week at home. They'd made me a scapegoat because they were jealous. I'd had death threats and attempted murder since I was 5. I took what should have been a lethal overdose at 12, which they minimized and laughed at. A GP came out, and I've seen the report saying that "The parents didn't seem to care". Nothing was followed up on. They threw me out at 17 to a place I didn't know, so they could make me beg for help so they could look like big heroes. Despite it all, I got into Sheffield uni to study pharmacology, but couldn't concentrate because of the trauma. The authorities never learn, or don't care.

      I think it’s money. The financial incentive to have children, particularly in the UK & the states, is a problem. A good parent wants what’s best for their child, even if it means they can’t keep them. But that’s not what we see happening. We have “reunification” in the states & it’s contributed to many horrific deaths of innocent children. There’s a focus on getting the child back to their biological parent even when they’re happy & thriving for years in their foster home, but they’ll be sent to live with a mother they don’t know who’s done nothing to show she deserves them (we have ANOTHER similar tragic case unfolding here, a 5 year old named Oakley).
      It’s obvious these parents just want them back for the money they’ll get in social welfare. The stories are all the same. These babies are born with drugs in their system, put in foster care or with responsible family, then bio mom thinks “I need more money, ill just get that kid I popped out & didn’t give a shit about a few years ago & starve it.” A single mother gets more money for each child…it’s an incentive to be irresponsible at best & recipe for disaster at worst, especially with these ridiculous lockdowns.

    This happened in the apartment complex opposite my street (I can see it from the window now), and almost two years later local residents still leave flowers, teddies, balloons etc. tied to the gates of the building for Star, especially at Christmas, Easter, and more recently on her birthday - it's distressing to walk past every day, but it's comforting to know Star is not forgotten, and is being shown the love now that she didn't have whilst alive. It was absolutely devastating and shocking for all of us here, made worse by occurring during the pandemic with an already-stretched and under-funded children's services team missing the warning signs; but what I can say is that if Brockhill the baby killer ever returns to this area, I doubt she will last very long.

    My deepest and sincerest thank you and immeasurable respect for being the one to cover these absolutely devastating crimes of abuse and senseless murder of these innocent little ones.
    These cases would be gut wrenching to cover but you still go to those places where many don’t want to go and don’t want to hear or see. You are the voice of these little souls who cannot speak for themselves in life and in death. You do so with such passion, empathy and lovingly for these little ones so they are heard. You do not shy away from calling out the agencies, parents, caregivers that have so many opportunities to save these precious lives if only they did their job. It’s a parents responsibility to always put their children’s needs and safety as paramount above everything and everyone else. So many of these little ones could still be here with us today if agencies and parents actually did what they should be doing. If people just spoke up, make that call and keep calling regardless of anything else. What does it matter if it offends people. If they are not doing anything wrong then there is no reason to be offended. It’s our responsibility regardless of whether we know the people or not. It’s deeply saddening that so many people did make those calls and they fell upon deaf ears. However too many people just don’t pick up that phone.
    Regardless of how heartbreaking it is to hear and know of the horrific abuse, neglect and loss of life in such unimaginable horror I refuse to look the other way. I refuse to not sit and listen to everything you are saying in every heartbreaking detail because far too many people and child safety departments have been grossly negligent in protecting children that are so innocent and at such high risk of being tortured and murdered by the very people who are the ones that above all should protect them with their lives.
    I am a survivor of severe child abuse but I am one of the lucky ones that survived and was raising myself at 15. I was a single Mum to 2 beautiful children that are now adults. I never raised a hand to my children. Ever. I could never put another human being above the safety of my children.

    the British legal system is actually terrifying like I'm shocked Frankie can be out age 24, at the point she considered getting an injunction but then decided to leave her child alone in the hands of the person she knows is dangerous and has researched her options, she chooses to literally leave her child unsupervised knowing clearly she's putting her child's life at risk every single time she's around her, she's responsible for murder she might as well have killed her with her bare hands and should never see the light of day again

      I know. 17 is an adult. Though technically it's not, my son got caught trying to steal a shirt on his 17th birthday. They told him if it had been the day before, he would have been a juvenile. But the law looks at 17 as an adult. She should have been sentenced to life in prison. I don't care if she can be rehabilitated. She murdered her own child. There's no coming back from that. Even if you have remorse, or would be safe for society, some crimes deserve punishment that will last your whole life. You murder your child, or allow your gf to murder your child, you forfeit your right to freedom forever

But their ability to predict the outcomes of choices is going to be very poor. Someone with a 70 IQ needs to be monitored, particularly if they have kids of their own. I mean, sorry not sorry. We need to start being honest here.

He's one of the lucky ones who managed to grow up really well and is one of the most brilliant souls that I know. Caring, hardworking and smashing all his goals. Despite the abuse, he managed to grow up to be a far better person than his mum will ever be. I'm heartbroken though that children like Star have to suffer through these kinds of evil incarnate abuse. NO child should have to be brought out into this world just to be a human punching bag. Let other people better capable take care of your child/ren if you can't. This is a death which was wholly preventable. I do hope Smith and Brockhill get the max. And for speaking your honest opinion, I may or may not agree on them all but it's refreshing to see someone state their idea and opinions honestly, especially about some of these monsters that truly don't deserve the benefit of doubt knowing what we do now. Agreed. To make matters worse, my little girl is only a few months older than star and even looks like her a bit... The big blue eyes and blonde hair. Same shape face and smile. I can't stop crying.
      My little one loves climbing and exploring. She's a bit of a daredevil and has bruises on her shins from climbing, running, playing... Normal baby bruises. The odd little bump on the head if she runs too fast and smacks into something. I can't imagine if something "catastrophic" happened to her. She accidentally rolled off a bed once at 8 months and I immediately rushed her off to the hospital, I felt sick thinking she was hurt or broken something. I literally just turned to grab a baby wipe, didn't even leave the room.
      I think the worst thing is no matter how her story is told, no matter how much she was loved, we can't bring her back. And why couldn't smith just leave her where she was. She was happy. She was safe. I find myself taking all of this grief for a child I never knew and trying to pour even more love into mine to try and make up for the senselessness of this crime.
      Poor Star 😥
      I already told my child's father that if we ever broke up, I'm not dating again until she's out of the house living her own life. Just not a chance I would be willing to take.

    I remember watching Emma, back when she used to dissect the behaviour of the Big Brother housemates 🔍😊 As a Forensic Psychology student, I'm loving how she's remained true to her old style of delivering clinical analysis in such an informal tone. From an academic perspective, it makes things so much more easier to absorb. Her research team are really doing their homework too! 👏
    Although these cases are so awful to hear, public exposure and awareness (such as this video) is so relevant in breaking the age-old cycle of "just keeping quiet" & "sweeping things under the carpet". Children are losing their lives and they deserve more than being reported as "just another statistic" or number in the failings of our Social Care system. Thankyou Emma for bringing this awful case to light & helping to give children like Star a voice ⭐

      Although it’s hardly a “clinical analysis” to categorise boxing and door work as “masculine traits”, and to categorise people who participate in either of these fields as aggressive. Boxing is a sport. Door work is a job. Many decent men and women participate in both, as in many other areas of life.

    The part where she took Star to work and kept going to the car to beat on her really shows the monster. It wasn’t like the child was right there irritating her by crying or having a potty accident and she just happened to lose it.

    This is the first time watching your channel and I’m so glad I did. Your telling of Star’s tragic and heartbreaking story was told with such feeling and empathy. Anger as well which is totally understandable. You gave beautiful Star a voice when so many failed to hear her in the past. I don’t even want to comment on those 2 monsters because the words I would use aren’t allowed on you tube. Suffice to say I hope neither of them ever see the light of day again regardless of the lenient sentences . Rest in Eternal peace beautiful Star.

This channel provides one of the safest spaces for people to chat, despite the horror of these cases Em you speak for the victims and are literally the best for True Crime. The safe space you've created is amazing, moderating on a different style of channel I can tell you there are some crazies about!

    This is so sad, so awful & tragic. It seems like children are more in danger now, than ever before.
    The TV personality Emma mentioned, groomed a minor, then suddenly decided to publicly admit his sexual orientation just as the (now grown young man) he’d groomed since before he was 15 y/o, went to the media about the ‘affair’ - it’s wasn’t an affair, it’ was grooming. It wasn’t about this ‘celebrity’ coming out, it was a diversion and him trying to close the gate. I don’t even understand how he’s still on TV.
