These guys play insanely well live too. Idk why people are down playing it's just studio, and production. They can and do execute at a high level in a live performance. Not even close to a parallel of some fraud musicians who only sound good in the studio.
He makes it look easy, but I think he spent a lot of time on this piece. You can have all the talent in the world, but there aren't any shortcuts to playing like this. Respect to this guy.
I had a piano teacher in college that would always say “the slower you play the faster you learn.” It’s not easy having the discipline to play through an entire piece or exercise, reading and playing one note at a time start to finish, but that’s the fastest way to learn IMO
@@wbnbn9670 Nope! Bossa Nova was created in the late 50s by a couple of Brazillians named João Gilberto, Antônio Carlos, Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes (and more). Jazz Bossa Nova which is a fusion of modern jazz and Bossa Nova was created in the 60s by Stan Getz and Charilie Byrd. The key differences being Jazz Bossa Nova is more focused on improvisation where Bossa Nova is characterized by more soothing lyrics and a melancholic atmosphere.
@@thevastidity888 No…have you really studied this or are you just making shit up? Where do you think the advanced harmonies of Jobim and the laid-back vocal style of Gilberto came from? That’s right, it was a very intentional fusion of American songbook and samba rhythms
I don't think a lot of people understand how difficult it is to play something like this with perfect timing, the way Tim does here. I've been playing for 10+ years and I can play many bits of Polyphia songs, including this one. But playing an entire piece like this, in one take, without making even a minor rhythmic error is astonishing. Tim's on another level.
@@Liece45 well as far as i can tell the video is uncut, the audio all matches very perfectly with his hand movements, and I see no reason to include a click track at the beginning unless one was trying to suggest this is one take.
The transitions between notes and harmonics is simply astonishing. Polyphia very much not my thing but I just watched this 5 times back to back. What a fucking guitarist.
Same here I'm not a huge Polyphia fan I can't just listen to their songs while driving or even chill to them. However, the first half of this song is fkn amazing I keep listening to it over and over I just cannot believe the level of talent it takes to pull off all those harmonics back to back so fast without error it's just crazy. Don't get me wrong harmonics aren't the hardest thing in the world to pull off, however, there are 100's of ways to do a harmonic wrong and only 1 right way, and how he pulls them off with such ease is just mindblowing, especially at that speed. Yeah, I cannot groove to most of their music but what I will say is Tim is one hell of a guitarist and with that kind of talent he can go places. I have seen some of his other videos and the dude has unbelievable talent.
@@malevolent5496 ‘things’ rather than thing. SRV, Gary Moore, The Wedding Present, Jon Butler, Sabbath, Big Thief, Leatherface, Fugazi, Meshuggah, Andy McKee, Angus & Julia Stone, Slayer, Youth of Today. I could go on and I usually do…but this Tim Henson kid is otherworldly.
Obviously music like this attracts musicians through its technical nature, but honestly my favourite thing about Tim and Polyphia is that in a world where nostalgia is king they are actually doing something new and refreshing.
This isn't very new though to anyone with a ear in flamenco or other acoustic guitar acts. This is pretty simple to the likes of say a Al Di Meola, Andy McKee or a Felix martin, Paco de Lucia an etc. It's just people being more exposed to a type of music they never listened too previously so it seems "new" an refreshing.
@@crowing3886 You're right. Flamenco has always had a rhythm section just like that and this is utterly indistinguishable from existing Flamenco in style, structure and tone. Have a great day!
@@crowing3886 They clearly have external inspirations just like any other artist but they bring it in a new and original way in my opinion. Sure some guitar parts may be similar to flamenco but the way they combine it with other influences and with the bass and drums is unique. :)
i just finished learning my first song (to zanerkand, some easy version) and i dont know how hard it is because i literally cant comprehend what he is playing xD
When you're that good and are able to play songs like this there is not much tension anymore and it all becomes dependent on muscle memory and you don't even need to focus hard on what you're doing anymore. I'm no guitarist but I know how it feels like to have so much practice in something to the point where things so complex almost become second nature. Very cool feeling of complete zen while performing like a super human. This is the first video i've seen of him actually and it's very interesting how people can be so good at certain things to such an extent.

I have been trying to learn this song for a while now. My guitar teacher gave me this as a challenge and I want to blow him away! But no one will ever play this as well as you my friend. You are truly on a different level
This guy's cover in Playing God is insane, probably the most cleanest I've seen. I think he should send this to Polyphia because it is that crazily good.
Bought the tabs for this. Unnatural patterns and odd fretting hand all over the place that made this ridiculously hard to play as comfortable as he did. Can’t imagine the pressure to play that clean live. You guys are generational!
His ability to place the harmonics in there so effortlessly is what Stands out the most to me but I’m not a guitar player. I can still see and hear this is incredible though
I agree! after listening to it quite sometime, the part in 2:35 really shows a great timing on how the harmonics were used. That brief moment where I wouldn't normally expect it just make it sound complicatedly beautiful.
I think I read somewhere that Marty Friedman has wrist problems now. It’s sad but not very surprising on how he held his pick. Just search up how he held his pick as well as some of the faster solo’s he wrote

@@joec8057 He doesn't exactly do that. He composes melodies on keyboard (not all of them i think) yeah, but then he transcribes them with his guitar playing by complexifying them with chords and harmonies added into the melodies. Which then gives life to the full riff.

This is sick. He squeezes various techniques in such a speed and play it effortlessly. the fact it is played on the nylon strings guitar makes it even more outstanding. this guy brings a new evolution of guitar. standing aplouse. You are a Lionel Messi of Guitar.
How he plays this is astounding to me. He strums with a pick to go fast on the string and to stretch across, AND he strums the strings with his middle, ring, and pinkie at the same time. That lick at 0:33... so sick. It sounds like a mandolin strum pattern, but hitting one note 7 times in a half beat with down/up 'hyper triplets'. Pretty gnarly
@UA-cam Shorts Shows Murders He's really just pointing out a style of playing used commonly by mandolins. Watch that ego, you probably can't even play that cleanly anyways LMAO

This is one of the best pieces of music that I have ever heard. I like that it is an original style and that it is a combination of flamenco, jazz, and rock. This is incredible guitar playing.
Bruh everything about him is incredible, he's incredibly fluid with his movement, obviously the song itself is incredible, and he does it with full confidence, dude is literally closing his eyes for most of it!
He writes riffs that are so hard that I'm sure he has methodically thought about his movements to optimize his playing. It's cool to see the result, he's great.
At one point, it felt like playing guitar became less about making beautiful music and more about showing off how technically brilliant you are. Tim is one of the guitarists that combines both.
As a big fan of bossa and latin jazz i needed this. Those calling it simple "elevator music" really ought to try being more open to different styles. This is a certified banger.
I once had a coworker refer to Polyphia as "video game music," he had no idea the treasure his brain was mocking and that, knowing him, he'll never hear anything quite as talented as these guys again
It's like he doesn't even care, shits too easy for him. Yet if any of us viewers were to successfully play even a quarter of this song we'd probably be all smiles and freaking out at the end. Haha, dudes too damn good.
It seems a bit wrong to say “he doesn’t care” more like he works so hard and takes his craft so seriously that precision has become his standard, it’s what he expects of himself when he plays

This is why he stood out so much in Jared dines video to me. His solo just sounded the best, second to none.
Its so wonderful to see how much Tim has advanced into a guitarist that is untouchable.
I am floored by your playing, so so good!
This is what pure ecstasy sounds like
The man, the myth, the legend himself

You mean MDMA right? Like ecstasy the drug? Bc you’re right 😭😂
He appears again
Why do you and I share the same interests
It looks like a robot ! The finger placement is so precise it’s unbelievable! Love this allot !
As a big fan of bossa and latin jazz i needed this. Those calling it simple "elevator music" really ought to try being more open to different styles. This is a certified banger.
I'd never leave the elevator that was playing this song.
uh this is way too compelx for elevator music, more a phone hold line
I once had a coworker refer to Polyphia as "video game music," he had no idea the treasure his brain was mocking and that, knowing him, he'll never hear anything quite as talented as these guys again
@@djentleman8116 😂😂😂 I love the fact that you said he had no idea.
Trapjazz
It's like he doesn't even care, shits too easy for him. Yet if any of us viewers were to successfully play even a quarter of this song we'd probably be all smiles and freaking out at the end. Haha, dudes too damn good.
I’d be like: damn I should write something actually memorable with all this skill
No, that's just the patience it takes to be that good.
Relax. It is called TALENT + HARD YAKKA. Enjoy and listen da Master.
It seems a bit wrong to say “he doesn’t care” more like he works so hard and takes his craft so seriously that precision has become his standard, it’s what he expects of himself when he plays
I was being facetious, the guy is just super impressive and just keeps getting better and better over the years.
as someone who loved paco de lucia growing up, i cried when he passed away. But now im sure his soul would be so happy seeing tim play like this. Love everything you do man.
Ole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh dang youre so right!
the sound asthetic is really different, but when you listen to him playing with an acoustic you realize its almost the same playing, just a different style.
i never thought about that when listening to polyphia, but now i cant "unhear" it. :D
Check out Ben Woods 👍
After playing guitar for 11 years I can proudly say I won’t ever pick my guitar back up after witnessing this greatness, so seamless so effortless yet so Intricate and complex every single thing of this piece Is mindbending bravo Tim 👏🏻
This version NEEDS to be on Spotify. In fact, just do a whole solo acoustic set...please.
I love how the jazz chords go seamless into atonal notes. No resolution. It's like suspense on a grand scale!
I wish I knew music words and what they meant. It’s hard playing music and knowing nothing about it
@@patricklang7162 this happens when you didn't go to any music school, and i can relate :D wasn't interested in instruments as a kid and i regret it now as an adult.
@@DoctorStrange01 exactly. I love guitar and am dabbling with the keyboard a little, but I kick my Dick off because I wish I would have listened in the music classes I had in school. My uncle has taught me a little about music theory and singing, but it’s like a muscle I have to train it for my knowledge to grow
@@patricklang7162 my mom played piano and my sister guitar, but all i was interested in was electronic music and rap, I've only picked up guitar after turning 30 and I'm mad at myself for losing so much time 😅
@@DoctorStrange01 right. I played guitar at 12. Then picked it up again at around maybe 23 or 24 and now only seriously getting back into it the last couple years at 27 and 28. Actually recording some simple stuff and messing around trying to learn what I can. I retained very few things from all I’ve learned, but I love what I know and I will keep trying to get better. 28 and 30 are still not too old to learn ahah. No one in my family besides my
Uncle plays instruments.. so at least in my immediate family no matter what I can do I’m still the best musician hahaha
I don't know whether to keep practicing or throw myself in front of a bus. How is this dude not a robot??
I hear you man

so true
He’s a genius and a prodigy and it does sting a bit but thank god he exists
Slow it down to 50% and see the emotion in every flick of the string. its inspiring to say the least.
Dang this cover is pretty good, best attempt I’ve seen
💀
Same best attempt I've seen ever
Probably because it is not a cover xD

@@ginkoull0762Before expanding the replies I just KNEW someone already took it literally lol.
a lot of people say this motivates them to throw out their guitars but Tim inspires me to learn at least one Polyphia song in my lifetime
thanks Tim
👍
Try goat, with dedication and experience it’s not too difficult
@@nick.6441 I’m actually learning the intro but it’s really hard
@@jamblexx i learned that and then moved on to playing God, that one’s a bit more difficult, just stay dedicated you got this
@@nick.6441 yeah I get you man I just don’t know how long it’s gonna take me and even after I learn the intro there’s still the entire song left
Polyphia songs are a real grind
Tim is the Sasuke of the guitar world.
Try madara
@@ekinisik2053 Try teenage bad boy Obito
Ichika Nito is Naruto. LMAO
what does that make ichika nito?
Where's naruto
Great cover! Hope Polyphia recognize her. She is also very beautiful!!!

.....hes a dude
@@Monkayy69 Ik that in Polyphia everyone are men. But this guitarist is a woman. What are you talking about?
Ok, now I remember why I quit playing guitar…
so cruel, so true...
I'm sure this is just a self-deprecating way of complimenting Henson, but it's still sad. I cannot imagine quitting something because someone else was better or it was hard.
this is why i wanted to keep playing guitar
Good, you should be doing it for enjoyment. You failed.
