Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Doors fan, always have been and always will be, but I have to admit, Morrison sounded about one bottle over the line in "LA Woman".
John Densmore taught me how to use a ride cymbal before i ever held drumsticks. I learned a lot from him. He's the most underappreciated drummer in rock and easily the most theatrical. I hope one day he reads this. He is my favorite Door.
John Densmore is my favourite drummer of all time. I can listen to album after album by the Doors and just focus on the drumming. And his book "Riders on the storm" is the best rock bio I've ever read. I bought it in paperback many years ago, I've read it at least four times and is about to give it another go. Also, I loved how he stayed true to Jim Morrison's spirit by denying the use of the Doors songs in commercials, his principles costing him God knows how much money and an estranged relationship with the remaining members. You are a rear breed, John! Thank you for your amazing drumming and fantastic books!
Would have been awesome to see him with Ray and Robbie when they played as Riders On The Storm, if I knew my band mates were doing what they were doing and it's for the same reason it's always been, the FANS, then I would do it. But hey if it's more important to him to just seclude himself and appreciate Jim and believe all things Doors died with him then okay I guess the legacy doesn't live on I guess I'm a moron. But being born in 92 I had no chance to see Jim either way. I didn't know he was beefing like that and for how unbelievable it was even with a sub singer (who did WELL), John would have made it twice as so. Either way I got some skin from Ray and watched him play front row from like 3 feet from the keyboard. Robbie played the most incredible acoustic guitar I've ever seen. What a wild night I think that was 2010

John, you are a National treasure. Such a wonderful artist on the drum set and a great storyteller of the band’s - and your own - artistic approach and process. I love the fact that you’re a Jazz drummer, steeped in all that technique and history of the genre, and became one of the most influential Rock drummers. You brought something different, out of the box, to Rock drumming through the Jazz idiom. Thanks for your passionate contribution to Rock drumming, art and music…and for being a cool guy!
The album ended up being produced by engineer Bruce Botnick since their producer Paul Rothchild called it quits claiming it sounded like cocktail jazz.
John, I just finished reading your 2nd book, “The Door’s Unhinged “. What an eye opener! I applaud your worthy efforts to keep your integrity intact along with the Door’s integrity. It’s too bad that it came to a lawsuit, but boy was it necessary after reading some of Ray’s plans for the future! I’m glad that you found it in your heart to reconcile with Ray and Robbie despite their blatant lies in court. I never thought Ray would stoop so low. You are truly to be commended for having the “‘Door’s back” by not selling out and thus keeping the Doors one of the few bands that hasn’t done so.
As he gets older , I hope he does not sell out like Robert Redford did. Redford, 50 years ago bought thousands of acres of land in Utah vowing never to develop the land keeping it pristine wilderness. Now in his 80's , Redford is selling some of the land to developers.!
