Wow when I got my sky I thought that was just part of the process of putting the roof back on! And it was always going to be a pain! This is such great news haha
Thank you Mike! It was so easy to fix the top! Someone suggested buying 2 for future purposes. Turns out both of mine were broke! Good advice! Now it needs a nice paint job.
3:12 That Dorman lock rod retainer looks like it fits pretty good. Thanks for showing us the Dorman part number, sound like many people have had this problem before!
Anyone know what the metal clip that you snap the plastic clip onto is called? I ordered the plastic part in this video, but the clip to connect it to the tulip is missing too
I'm not even kidding. My girlfriends Pontiac Solstice was having similar issues and I was going to pull it into my garage next weekend to take a look. You just saved me a lot of time! I'm always watching your videos for my Saturn Sky as well. Keep up the great videos!
Thanks Mike for helping me out I'll do what ya said .what a pain to take apart just did it today been way to cold to work on outside at least i got the hood open
Nice video Mike! Another tip is the cable slack is sometimes too much even with new clips. You can bend the bracket that the wire guide is attached to downwards towards the trunk bottom to take up some of the slack until you see the tulip door come up as it does in your video... not way too late.
After replacing the clip on one side, the cable has 1/2" more slack than the other side. Have tried to take up the slack but won't raise the flap consistently. End up having to manually flip the flap.

Mines plastic pieces are there and not broken, but the passenger side tulip flap the little metal piece where the plastic piece goes into is missing, where can I get it?
My Solstice has the same problem in that the top won’t close all the way, but one of those flaps on my car won’t move at all. It’s frozen shut. I watched your video first so I’ll keep searching to see how to fix my problem.
High Mike, great video reference top problem, I notice that the yellow mug for the sky redline did not include vehicle stats or did I miss that, perhaps my old age showing
Mike, I am replacing these actuator pieces. Except on the left side, passenger, the metal retainer clip is missing. It's the thing that the thing hooks into. Do you any idea how to fix or replace that. I have looked every where? Any ideas would be great. I just bought my '08 GXP about a week ago. Thanks.
Cool! Recently tried to put it up within the week and yeah, wasn't going up all the way. Noticed the flap wasn't coming forward, so just did it by hand. Now that I know what causes it, I'll pick these up and replace, thanks! Issue now is, the top is up, but when I hit the Release, it' only releasing one side and not the other and the other is the same side (passanger) that I had the issue going up!! Gotta figure out how to get my top down now! Any support would be greatly appreciated. Now, to Google and see if I can find the solution.
HELP! Do you have a video or something for this? Buttress will release but trunk lid will not. I called a dealer and of course they say they can't get parts. So I can neither get in the trunk or take down the top
I would check the various Sky/Solstice facebook groups for someone parting theirs out. In fact, I just saw a Solstice being parted out the other day. You can also see if that part is also used in the Cobalt. Our cars and the Cobalt share a lot of parts.
It depends. If anything, it may be getting brittle even if it's not being used. I would buy a couple of clips and have them on hand just in case. I still have no idea how mine got so messed up.

As always thank you Mike. I've been holding that flap up when the cover was close to it so it would close.

Oh Bless you, you wonderful man. I've needed to fix these on my Sky forever and here your video is. THANK YOU!!!
Just ordered two for the future. Thanks for the info. I take my SKY Mug to the car show's so I can show the specifications when asked.
Thanks for watching my videos. That's awesome that you take the mug to cars and coffee for the stats. Great idea.
Thanks Mike for helping me out I'll do what ya said .what a pain to take apart just did it today been way to cold to work on outside at least i got the hood open
thank you mike! they just came in today and now i don’t have to have a friend or myself hold both flaps up to close the roof!
Thanxs Mike. Yes, that was my problem. Running up town to pack that little part up,
thanks Mike your videos are excellent. ordered 4, 2 for backup LOL

Thank you! You are a lifesaver!!!
Once again Mike thanks for the great video and part numbers.
Cheers
Hi Mike, what is that part number when buying at an auto parts store?
Helped me fix mine, thanks!
Mike, ever consider opening the fake side vents perhaps allowing more engine heat escape?

The Amazon website says it does not fit a 2007 solstice. Are they just not correct? looks like it fit yours!
Any idea what the next step to troubleshooting is? My clips are fine, but I can't get it to close the last inch or so. :(
Thanks for the video.

Mike have you ever changed the sky instrument lights?

I’m going to fix mine tomorrow!
Nice, easy-peasy! Thanks!
Yeah that plastic piece ended up snapping on both sides on my car. I tried gluing it together but that only worked for like a couple days.
Awesome..... Thanks Mike .....
Does the tulip stay in the up position when the top is up
Yes

Dude!!!! Thank you!!!!
Awesome 👍
Great...Thanks.
What is that flap called
I call it a tulip flap.
Do you live in Nashville? I live in Old Hickory! Would love to pay you to do some upgrades to mine.
I do live in Nashville. You can send me an email at mmartin028@ yahoo.com to let me know what you want done. I may be able to help.
Is mine going to break from old age, even though the top might not be used much.

Fix the cable window in the convertible
In the 6 years that I've owned my Solstice I've replaced that part twice.
