Looks great. I also had a top that needed work. Yours came out great with the dye. I tried, but it didn't work out because I had way too much sap and other junk that would not come off or allow the dye to stick. I decided to put another layer of waterproof multilayer fabric on top with some e6000 to hold it and cutting it to size as I clamped on to the old top, and so far it's held up really well. It did fade a bit, but dye took care of that one. If you ever need to replace the top, that could be an alternative for you considering the tops are pretty pricey.
A common problem with the trunk is it will create a vacuum inside and not open when released unless you pull on it through the hole the top goes in through. Some owners have fixed this by installing a spring. If the button doesn't fix the issue consider this option. Also what dye did you use on the top? My Sky's top has been fading since before i got it.
@DynamiteDupree Thanks for the info and for watching our channel! The new switch did fix the problem. The dye we used was Protex canvas restorer. We talk about this more in next week’s episode. I’ll see if we can put the link to where we got it in the description.
My 2010 Malibu has a trunk release switch on the door. It works intermittently as well. My guess is the same low bidder built them. Other wise the car is looking good.
Just bought a 2006 Solstice and I need to treat the convertible top. I will use the 303 as you demonstrated but what type of dye product did you use to get the top darker? I would love to apply this technique to get my top restored to its highest potential. Any feedback on this question would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much for your video contentt - Divine timing and connection! 😁
Ive got a2006 with 36000 actual miles beautiful car had to repair back window my self. where to get it serviced kind of oil . Bought car a year. The Insurance is high that the the reason I got it so cheap?
Good video. Where did you get the canvas dye from? I have the tan top and would like to do the same. Secondly, How did you get the trunk release switch out? I accidentally pushed my Instrument Panel Brightness control too hard and its slightly stuck in the dash area. Where might I find help on something of that nature?
We got the dye from Amazon, but if I remember correctly they didn’t have a tan since there are so many shades. I’ll look back on my videos and see if I can remember how I got the switch out and let you know. I sold that car quite a while ago and can’t remember.

I forgot how disgusting the interior on this thing was when we got it.
It’s amazing what that die did to the canvas top!

I have a Saturn Sky with a slightly faded top, now I know what to do to make it look new again. 😁
Yeah, I guess the black dye just fades over time with the sun beating down on it.
I got the same dye and gonna do my solstice top this weekend....thank you for the video
Glad it helped out!
I'm considering getting some too, but $35 a bottle is a bit daunting.
Seems like a lot, but it absolutely works.
@@rebuildit Oh, I don't doubt it. As soon as I can fit it into the budget, I'm going to get a bottle for my top.

Very informative video.
Very nice! Did you use the entire 16.9 oz bottle of dye?
Cool video, subscribed

I have a tan top as well. Just curious if you were able to find a decent dye match for your tan roof.
Do you still rebuild Solstices? I ask because of the rarity of parts.
We’re getting ready to finish up a GXP convertible right now, actually. We get the majority of the parts from eBay, car-part.com, or local junkyards.
From where did you order the trunk switch?
Honestly I don’t remember. It would have either been from my local dealer or eBay.
Could you tell me who makes the product 303 and the brand name of the die?
303 makes their own product. And the dye is linked here: www.amazon.com/dp/B00745IFR4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_9YTeDbVRFXEQX
Let me know if you want to sell those 09 coupe windows. I have an 09 coupe and wouldn't mind having an extra set depending on the price.

To clean it prior to using dye, we used 303 top cleaner. You can buy it at your local auto parts store. Thanks for watching.
The glass looks like it's for the coupe, not the convertible.
Good eye!
