    The main aim of the platform is to precipitate debate on why teeth are crooked. Most people are not aware that (in most cases) the dental profession has little or no idea why the teeth are crooked, or for that matter why children need major surgery. Clearly there are genetic issues, however the science is clear, the weight of quality research papers, in respected peer reviewed journals, show that our modern lifestyle is a more important factor and most importantly we can do something about this.
    This is especially important as sleep apnoea, TMD, forward head posture and a most otolaryngology problems are implicated as other symptoms of the same underlying problem.

In the pursuit of the truth it is normal in science to make speculative comments which may not have full scientific support, and we welcome feedback and discussion.

      @Vergil Yes, you can expect that in all institutions. Hopefully the Mews' ideas and methods, which, unfortunately, happen to be new and unproven to most (perhaps even threatening), will be seen to be as good as they are, and will overcome the natural resistance to new ideas. To do otherwise would be to sacrifice long term benefit for some short term avoidance of discomfort of having to adapt to new methods.

      When you mew on a day to day basis, how much force do you apply when “at rest”? Do you apply a low and steady/constant pressure or do you make yourself ache the whole time? Or do you do this exercises ver and over cor hours on end? I think it's so sad that the Orthadontic community are otracising Orthatropics and the Mews. I will continue to support the Mews. It's almost obvious, or at the least totally intuitive that tongue and mouth posture and function would have a direct effect on skull and jaw growth, that's why I don't understand why the Mews are getting so much flack. @@Damo__o no, I still have permanent wire retainers. I had the braces for 18 month (hadn't expected to get rid of them so quickly); initially I had wire retainers only on the lower jaw (put on the same day when braces were taken out); higher mandibular front teeth started coming back to original crooked shape in the first week the braces were out!!!! I immediately had the wire retainers on on the upper mandibular (if I said this correctly☺️)
      Lowe mandibular front teeth is however NOT AS STRAIGHT AND ALIGNED as it was with braces. I mean, even with wires the teeth try to go back to their "place of origin". It's amazing what memory they have!
      On top of that, I wear caps (transparent cap retainers) at night. They are prescribed to be used FOR EVER!
      I tried experimenting though. The upper line caps broke and I didn't bother with a new one for 3 weeks . A BIG MISTAKE! New caps hurt like hell. That feeling when you have after the appointment where they screw tighten your braces!

I noticed my jaw was closing whithout ant control of my self when i was talking or when i fell a sleep. I got open bite too though i had beautiful theeth and smile. My dentist said it was because i got tmj. After many visits by many dentists, orthodontics and physiotherapy no one said what the couse was. After watching your videos i realise that my forward head and my toungue between the teeth was the problem. Two months now i'm putting my toungue on the roof of the mouth and i feel very much better. Maybe we just have different types of TMJ or at least different causes for it. My wisdom teeth never grew and a lot of my adult teeth never did either, I think it's down to genetics as my dad had the same thing. I still have a lot of baby teeth. My arch is thin (I think simply due to baby teeth being small) and any time I put my tongue on the roof of my mouth even gently it results in TMJ pain the next day.

      Dr. Mike said mewing have a chance to relocate the jaw joint in TMJ patients, but he is not promoting it, because if you have severely TMJ damage, it's still can be risky, because doing chewing exercises still can damage the badly positioned joints until it's relocating over years. So in some cases, it's not worth the risk. But doing correct tongue posture and mewing without strong chewing marathons can help without serious risks.

    Hi Mike, I want to bring you're attention to something that you might find interesting - hypersalivation - I have started Mewing and Im trying to understand my unconscious habits and how they have formed. I realised that the reason I struggle to not suck my cheeks in is because I hypersalivate a lot, this causes me to constantly suck in and slightly bite the inside of my cheeks leaving a ridge on the occlusion line inside. I thought I would let you know this as it may be a possible hidden cause of poor facial growth and/or people finding it harder to Mew. When I don't suck in as a posture (it seems) my mouth fills up with saliva so rapidly I need to swallow constantly or I choke on saliva or dribble! So I am constantly making an unconscious sucking action on my cheeks to pull the saliva to the back of my mouth to swallow. I have no idea why I hypersalivate but I'm sure it has contributed to my narrow palette, craniofacial dystrophy and concave in either side of my arch. I'm trying to correct my swallow now, but the constant excess saliva is making this very challenging! A very happy New year to you and wishing you the very best with the legal stuff ❤

      @paulpogba4440 3 роки тому +1

      I have experienced something similar in the beginning when I started mewing and I am not completely through it. I hope Mike mew talks about the hypersalivation in the future because on reddit platforms and so on nobody has a clear answer to this problem. My opinion is that the suction on the cheeks is bad and will definetly activate your buccinators. The aim is to only build a suction between the tongue and the palate. Gain this suction hold first and then try to learn how to tongue sweep. I tried it but for me it is impossible because I'll always use my cheeks. The salivation will reduce a little in the near future.

    • @amierising2188
      @amierising2188 3 роки тому +1

      @@paulpogba4440 Hey Paul, thank you so much for you're message, you are spot on! You have confirmed that I'm starting to do it right, literally in the last week I've learned what the 'suck hold' feels like keeping the suction between my tongue and palate, and doing the tongue sweep, I'm now learning how to push and draw saliva in for swallowing by using my tongue only, without sucking on my cheeks and the oversalivation seems to have subsided, you said it would!! The two things I'm finding hard now are : getting the back third of my tongue one to the soft palate, my palate seems to curve steeply upwards at the soft palate, and before it is a bump in my hard palate, so it's really difficult to get the tongue to stay up there without constant focus and over effort. The second thing is that I have a narrow palate with an overjet and I don't know how to clear saliva from the space between my teeth at the front without sucking on my lips, but I'm sure in time I will figure this out too. I'm sure I can already see subtle changes in my face, I just look brighter and healthier since I last posted and I can breathe better through my nose. I'd love to hear you're progress too. I'm sure you can train yourself to not suck on you're cheeks, I thought I couldn't but I'm gradually finding it easier and easier to do the Mew push swallow, I believe in you!! Thanks so much for encouraging me ❤
