For decades crooked teeth have been accepted as just bad luck - a genetic inevitability that often requires extractions and fixed braces. This is seen almost as a rite of passage for teenagers. However, there is increasing awareness that such treatment can exacerbate obstructive sleep apnoea and TMJ disorders, leaving people with a lifetime of health problems.
There is substantial evidence to suggest that crooked teeth are the result of poor facial growth and that modern lifestyle choices are playing a major part in preventing the good facial development needed to have room for a full set of adult teeth.
The realisation of what this means is revolutionary. Crooked teeth are preventable! Education has the power to transform our children’s lives.
If we can prevent crooked teeth from occurring, we can minimise their associated health problems and reduce the burden on the NHS. For a healthier and happier society, please support our campaign. We need your help to bring about this health revolution.
This channel is part of the International Association of Facial Growth Guidance. A nonprofit organisation which aims to raise awareness of alternative orthodontic methods and ideas, which too few people are informed of.
The main aim of the platform is to precipitate debate on why teeth are crooked. Most people are not aware that (in most cases) the dental profession has little or no idea why the teeth are crooked, or for that matter why children need major surgery. Clearly there are genetic issues, however the science is clear, the weight of quality research papers, in respected peer reviewed journals, show that our modern lifestyle is a more important factor and most importantly we can do something about this.
This is especially important as sleep apnoea, TMD, forward head posture and a most otolaryngology problems are implicated as other symptoms of the same underlying problem.

This channel also acts as a forum to make openly, speculative suggestions, to find common ground with other professionals (in both related and seemingly unrelated fields), educated lay people and members of the public at large, to either support or detract on the information provided, but either way engage in the scientific process. In the pursuit of the truth it is normal in science to make speculative comments which may not have full scientific support, and we welcome feedback and discussion.
In general, the videos posted on this web site are not advertisements, and will clearly be labelled as such if necessary. Apart from educational books, the association does not sell anything or encourage anyone to have any form of treatment. It does aim to make people think, consider all options, ask questions and become fully informed.
Much of what is discussed on this site is not available from even the registered members, however a list of members is available on the web site, orthotropics.com.
Orthotropics essential means straight or correct growth. If your faces grows well it tends to work well. The concept is based on the Tropic Premise; www.watkinsden...
    The underlying pathology of malocclusion and the related symptoms is referred to as Craniofacial Dystrophy;
    www.nature.com/...
The association feels that it should be possible to prevent or at least minimise the level of craniofacial dystrophy through simple public health measures.

So I got rid of them and so far from all the advice I've heard on orthotropics it just seems like I'm gonna have to live with my underbite lol. And any muscle can be trained even brain. Body is an amazing mechanism that if you say start boxing. at first punches hurt like bad but with time your body adapts and your skin grows thicker (not visually just tougher). All im saying is there are sceptical people who talk crap without trying. But the ones who try usually arent disappointed.

Yes and no. Be careful about doctors, but give more freedom to health insurers! The former profit if their customers are sick; the latter profit if their customers stay healthy. Capitalism optimizes very effectively, but only for the exact job you give it. Therefore, the flow of money should favor those whose interests align with the general public.
It's silly to blame capitalism when it's used in a nonsensical way. That's like watching someone smash a window with a hammer, and then blaming the hammer and calling for a ban on hammers.

Lilmisscostumedrama Hey, no you definetly still have time! Actually the device I used (and still use) widened my palate, fixes any malocclusion, and straightens your teeth. I highly recommend it, do some research on ‘myobrace’, theres 3 stages and it helps you place your tongue on the roof of your mouth. It was a game changer for me... I used to have a narrow smile, an overbite and recessed jaw and now my teeth are wider, I have a normal bite and they’re all straight. Each stage takes 6-8 months. I’m still on the second stage. Lmk if you have any other questions!

This all makes so much sense. I had felt naturally inclined to “solutions” like the ones you described, but I didn’t have any “evidence” or reason to go in that direction. It’s crazy how much we have to unlearn because of our society. I have always had terrible snoring, blocked airways, and had to mouth-breathe. I hated how my face sloped, and wasn’t beautiful pronounced. I wondered if there were anything in the world I could possibly do. I just decided to start trying to breathe through my nose primarily. I made the conscious effort to no longer mouth breathe. I can’t really control yet what I do while I sleep, but I make to effort while awake. Looking in the mirror the other day, I thought to myself that my facial structure looked evermore so pronounced, and less sloped. I thought that it must just be wishful thinking because “surely nose-breathing for the summer couldn’t have had that much of an effect”... This video confirms my hunch. How can I thank you enough for sharing this information and truly trying to help fellow people!! Please continue your work. It helps me to live an easier, more pleasant and, Lord-willing, longer life!

This is excellent. I had healthy facial form when quite young but with years of poor tongue posture (tongue thrust) I developed very crooked teeth and altered my natural bone structure negatively. Everything you said is true - narrowing of the face, lengthening of jaw/chin, little definition of the outer U. I had to have orthodontia (twice) to correct my teeth but the bone structure remains. I am inspired to correct my tongue posture starting today and hopefully correct some of the damage. I will pass this information along. Please continue with your very important preventative research. The next generation of humans will thank you.

My teeth were crooked, my nose wasn’t shaped in the way it’s been before and my jawline dropped which was my biggest problem aesthetically. I even wanted to do surgery this year until I found out about mewing.

You still have a chance. If you really want a good face you can do these things but MAKE SURE you do them safely and correctly and whatever you do, DON'T over do them or do them too hard.
      Thumb pulling
      Bone smashing
Jaw exercises for all parts of the jaw
      Facial exercises to tighten jowels
      Lots of chewing
Do these along with mewing and it should be effective at any age. But be extremely careful cuz it's really easy to damage your body with the first 2 if done wrong.

I feel like hay fever is another part like this, doctors always say "oh it's genetics, just take these meds to suppress the symtoms", while it's pretty clear from twin studies that it's not. They just want you to keep taking the meds and the fact that we don't know the cause is a benefit to them.
This hay fever blocks my nose and forces me to mouthbreathe. I'm now going to try to, despite this, force nosebreathing and keep my jaw shut and my tongue on my pallet. It's already hurting which means it's already changing. I hope I can keep this up and improve my breathing.
I also hope it is found out soon what is the cause of hay fever.

What you’re saying makes sense and it’s surprising we don’t hear it super often.
I’m curious about something oddly specific I’ve heard floating around: can asymmetrical posture cause an asymmetrical face?
I’m a side sleeper and favor one side pretty consistently. I’m also a woman and cross my legs regularly when sitting - always crossing them the same way with the same leg over the other.
My face is also pretty noticeably asymmetrical. My smile and mouth most noticeably so. I can even “feel” the difference in muscle movement when it comes to my mouth. To a lesser extent, the muscles at the end of my eyes (like the muscles used when winking) are also somewhat asymmetrical. The one side of my face does “droop” a little bit. Not as dramatic as a stroke patient, but it’s a similar look I think.
So my question is: does me performing “asymmetrical” activities that favor one side over the other contribute to this?
I’m also suspect of pseudo-scientific claims, so I’m genuinely wondering if me doing these things caused my asymmetrical face or if I’m just seeing a connection that isn’t really there. It’s probably true that there are plenty of side-sleepers and leg-crossers that probably have more symmetrical faces than me. Maybe, maybe not. I don’t know.
I’d love if someone could respond and let me know if you have any knowledge/insight about this!
(Also, please don’t comment “Everyone has an asymmetrical face to some extent, a perfect face isn’t possible.” I’m not joking, my face is REALLY ACTUALLY very noticeably asymmetrical. Others have noticed it, it’s just really quite obvious. I don’t think it makes me less attractive, and I’m not necessarily insecure about it, but it would be satisfying to have some sort of answer as to why. Hope that makes sense.)

The first thing I thought about was that we all are to some extent assymetrical anyway, BUT also I recalled the teachers saying to us in primary & middle school that we should always wear backpacks for balanced weight distribution and to not misdevelop the spine. It was looked upon when someone decided to wear a bag (that shape / style like postmen did / do or sport bag).

I'm 56 and wish I and my family had known this when I was a child. Not only was it hard for me to quit sucking my thumb, causing some deformity in my upper palette, I suffered from very bad allergies that started in spring, and didn't let up until winter, so I spent most of my childhood with a stuffed up nose, just trying to breathe, which likely caused a lot of mouth breathing, especially at night. I developed cranial facial deformity. Had major jaw surgery in my late 20s to improve this. Rounds of expensive allergy shots also improved my breathing in my 20s, but again, it was too late. I'd still like to improve my sagging jaw line and will work on some things now, but it might be too late.

Hi, My name is Gabriel, I'm 26 and from my 12 years I started to do martial arts as a form to correct posture and breathing .... I have asthmatic bronchitis, or something like that (its difficult to translate, portuguese is my native language).
I snore, and have lots of problems corelated to breath. So, I started to do yoga to correct my posture, and start doing some exercices to close (literally) my mouth (it was in bad shape because of the years by mouth breathing), by looking for exercises and contents like this, I ended here, and I'm in love with this content and its application. It was what I was looking for: a link between the whole posture, and breathing / face structure.

I’m 33. May be to late for me to try this but I’m going to give it a go! My teeth were actually pretty straight until my early-mid 20’s. Now they were getting worse and worse and I ended up getting Invisalign a couple of years ago. Nearly done, just ten more weeks to go. It took me a few tries to find a orthodontist that didn’t tell me that I had to pull four perfectly healthy teeth and my two impacted upper wisdom teeth (no lower). I refused to do it, and after trying for a third time at a different orthodontist they didn’t see a reason to pull teeth at all. I have noticed my face slightly changing (to be expected), but I’m interested in trying this method to see if I can push things in an even more positive direction. Will update at the end of this year if I notice any changes!

I knew she had something abnormal going on, but I didn't realize I did until I read the work of Weston A. Price. Then I realized my diet had affected my teeth and my airway. I have a nose that is hard to breathe through. I was a mouth breather and try hard not to be now by using a lot of essential oils to keep my airway clear. I do have sleep apnea. I had crooked teeth. I have TMJ. I had a dental appliance to thrust my bottom teeth forward so that I can breathe at night. I don't know if it is connected, but I have fibromyalgia (with horrible neck and back problems). This science needs to go forward. I'd certainly be willing to be involved.

I breastfed my first til he was 23 months (was pregnant with number 2) and he was given solids at 6 months via Baby led weaning, he is now 10 and has an appointment with an orthodontist because he has crowded teeth. My second was breastfed until 3 yrs 4 months (solids introduced as previous) but since birth he has struggled with breathing through his nose. His father, uncle & father in law all seem to have the same kind of issue and had operations to try and widen the passage. They speak with a "blocked up nose" kind of voice. The issue now is the second child has had 2 operations, one to reduce the adenoids (didnt help, questioned why when there were no symptoms of adenoid issues) second operation was to "reduce them more" and remove tonsils... again, asked why since they hadn't been causing issues. Doctor came to me after the operation and said he didnt know why they were to do the operation since the issue wasn't with those, it was the nasal passage that was too small. We saw the next doctor and he said his nasal conchas were enlarged and gave a spray to try reduce them. It made very little difference.
We are now waiting for another appointment since his mouth breathing during waking hours has gotten worse and I can see his face shape changing (he's about to turn 8 and I've been on to the doctors since 1.5/2yrs old). Weirdly, he doesn't snore or have any issues breathing at night!
