I love Wild Side; but I'm afraid it would be wasted on her. She keeps her eyes closed for most of the video - she would totally miss why everyone is ooh and aah over the video. Especially that one part....you know what I mean.
This was Motley Crue's most popular ballad. Back when MTV played music videos, they had a time when people could vote what video they wanted to see. This video was so popular they had to retire it. Another good ballad by theme is Without You. Phil play it for Samantha and I'll guarantee she'll love you did.
I remember those days.... back when MTV did play videos. lol The other retired song from their daily top ten was KISS' Forever, both songs had to be removed from their hourly show, although this Crue song definitely dominated longer. There was an article sometime either in the early 00's or 90's, and the president from MTV was asked about bringing videos back, and he said that he tried it for a short time, but their other programs were netting far better results. I do miss the days of the first iteration of MTV though.
I wasn't a fan of Poison, Winger, and many other glam bands, but always respected Motley Crue, Whitesnake, and a few others. When Guns N Roses came out, I really looked at them in a different genre - I can't define it really well but a game changer hard rock.
I was in the US Navy during the Persian gulf war and on my aircraft carrier on the 11 day journey home, You could hear that song everywhere on the ship. It's got a special meaning to me
This is, hands down, my favorite Motley Crue song. When I was in the Army and was coming back from the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm they played this on the plane. It was awesome! Shortly after getting back, I saw them in concert and that was even more awesome! Thanks for reacting to this and I appreciate you both and all you do. Keep it up and much love.
Glad y'all liked it! You are right. Axl Rose did cite this song as ex of their kind of band using piano. GNR debuted 2 yrs after this song. I saw Crue on this tour in 1985 and it was the wildest best stage show I've ever seen! These guys rocked! BTW, not all of us embrace the phrases "Hair Band" or "Glam Metal". Those phrases didn't exist back then. In the 80's all of these hard rock bands were called Heavy Metal. With Metal meaning hard core stuff these days, I'm fine with relegating this to classic hard rock. But personally despise "Hair" "Glam" metal. That just describes the look, plus 60's 70's all had big hair too. So it just confuses new comers. Love your channel!!
Have to disagree some. The term glam rock had been around and used a lot in the 70s. I don't recall hearing glam metal so much, but most rock fans in the 80s did not consider Motley Crue as Heavy Metal either. They were a hard rock band doing the glam rock look that mtv wanted. And it was simply a product of mtv as all rock bands in the mid 80s looked exactly like this. Don't recall when people starting calling them hair bands, it was basically a derogatory term as many hated this look and didn't consider most of these bands as anywhere near as good as previous rock bands. Motley Crue was actually one of the few that got more respect and deservedly so. Others of that time have been rightfully, mostly forgotten.
@@stickman1742 - I'm not talking about Glam Rock. That's like David Bowie. I don't like that phrase either, bc it doesn't describe the music, it describes the look. I'm age 52. I saw Crue in 1985 when I was 13. I grew up in that era, and I and everyone else called Crue "heavy metal". I know, bc I was there. All those bands of that time were called heavy metal too, except bands like Bon Jovi, Poison, Europe and Honeymoon Suite which we called pop metal. Metalica, Slayer, Megadeth etc were considered underground hard core metal at the time. Nowadays, the goal posts have moved on everything heavier than pop. People call classic hard rock from 70's and 80's just "rock". Really? Then what Is Huey Lewis, or The Outfield? Soft Rock? Then what is Air Supply? "Really Really Soft Rock"? See what I'm saying? .....You say; "Others of that time have been rightfully, mostly forgotten". The 80's hard rock/metal genre was HUGE!!!! Well over 100 signed bands. Compare that to grunge with all of 10 bands. So yes, many of those 100+ faded into obscurity, but the main top tier bands of about 25-30 has stood the test of time, appearing on video games, movies, tv and online commercials, stadium sports events. 20+ Bands standing the test of time in 1 genre from 1 decade is more impressive than any other genre or decade. GNR was the first to hit 1 Billion views from any artists in the 20th Century. And GNR has 2 diff songs over 1 B and about to reach 2 Bil. GNR, Motley Crue, Kiss, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, still sell out arenas, so would VH is still alive and touring. Yes, those "hair band" phrases are meant to be derogatory, that's why I hate them. I love music from all decades. If 70's kids don't like 80's, so be it. But there's a hell of lot more hard rock 80's bands that I love than 70's. 70's was a great decad for rock and hard rock, but that's just decade snobbery to put down great music with terms describing a look. These bands were great writers, performers with excellent musicianship. ---To me, since to goal posts moved, I'm okay with "Classic Hard Rock", or "Classic Metal".
I'm Hair Band era .. I love this. Daddy raised me on Frank Sinatra, Pop-Pop raised me on classic country, Mom raised me on Elvis.. I love it all ... but Hair Bands.. LOVE.. also some old school Hip Hop. Being in the clubs back in the 90's.. good music
I loved it all from Crue to Blackie Lawless to Iron Maiden to Ratt. Metal in the 1980s was one of the most vibrant and alive music at the time. They were original but then bringing back covers that they metalized. Headbanger's Ball was a must watch.
We used to put this song on as we were getting ready to pull into our home port after our 6+ months deployment on our submarine! “I’m on my way, just set me free, Home Sweet Home!”
Funny you say that. When I was on the g w, the captain loved lee Greenwood. If you know anything about carriers, they have refueling every three days, so The captain used Lee Greenwood as our breakaway song, so we were real tired of Lee Greenwood by the end of 6 months, and a petition was taken up amongst the 5000 people of the crew that we play home Sweet home as our breakaway song for the very last refueling before heading back home. He played the very first verse and the first chorus of Home Sweet Home and then cut it off and played greenwood. So annoying.
@@martyb5807 Yep, definitely familiar with unreps. I did 20 years on submarines, my brother did 30 on the surface side (Mississippi, Hayler, T.R., and Bush). Always had the “going home turns on” when we played “Home, Sweet Home”. Saturday nights were pizza nights with VHS copies of MTV Headbangers Ball on in Crews Mess. Hooyah, Navy!
This song brings back memories from the Navy. They would play this song over the ship's announcement system whenever we were on deployment and released to return to homeport.
Oh my gosh, crue was so much fun but yes very glam. Maybe thsts why hard metal fans did not like them, but thry fit right into the 80s. We were hung up on the music, not what people " looked" like. Thats one thing that made the 80s so special. We really loved our friends, family and our musicians. Videos like these are sad. They miss home. We fail to realize, they sacriiced their lives to bring us music and not many escape the drugs, women and alcohol which actually destroys their important relationships. Nice reaction. Thank you.
Kool bit of trivia on how Motley Crue got their name!!-While trying to find a suitable name, Mars remembered an incident which occurred when he was playing with a band called White Horse, when one of the other band members called the group “a motley looking crew.” He had remembered the phrase and later copied it down as Mottley Cru-. After modifying the spelling slightly, “Mötley Crüe” was eventually selected as the band’s name, with the stylistic decision suggested by Neil to add the two sets of metal umlauts supposedly inspired by the German beer Löwenbräu, which the members were drinking at the time.
Saw them in the late 1980's. The drummer Tommy Lee started this song on a Baby Grand Piano, then ran up the side of the cage surrounding his drums, flipped over the top, and started playing the drums. AWESOME concert from start to finish.
Shout at The Devil, Looks that Kill, Dr.FeelGood, you can pretty much pull ANY Crue song out of all these comments, and it’s gonna Rock!! Have fun going down that Rabbit hole guys/ladies!!
People never notice this. At 2:32 you can see Tommy's drum kit is vertical to the stage. This was his first iteration of crazy drum kits. Next his drum spun around in the air, then it floated out over the audience and on their last tour (well the one that was supposed to be their last) is was on a roller coaster that went from the stage to the back of the arena. The opening of the video is just Motley showing off their humor. This is also the most glam they ever went. This was the tour for their third album, Theater of Pain, they got a lot of grief for it too. Aerosmith wrote their song Dude Looks Like a Lady after seeing Vince, the signer, in that pink and white outfit. They went back to jeans and leather on the next album but this album and this song was so huge that it started the glam era of the 80s which would see bands like Cinderella and Poison make it big on the scene. That era also got a lot of grief from metal fans so the last era of the 80s saw much more stripped down bands like Skid Row and Gun N Roses. Some other bands you should check out from the early 80s, the core of hair metal, is Ratt - Round and Round, Dokken - Breakin the Chains and W.A.S.P. - Tormentor. W.A.S.P. is kind of the Slayer of hair metal.
Keep this rabbit hole going! Check out their first music video Live Wire. Same Old Situation, Girls Girls Girls, Dr Feelgood, Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) , Looks That Kill. That should be a good start
We had this local mom n pop radio station a couple of miles where I grew up. When this song dropped I was a teenager, it was pretty much just about an anthem for us. Anyway, who ever was DJ that night played this song like 10 times in an hour, and I listened to all ten plays. Song makes me emotional now for the younger days.
"Dr. Feelgood" is a rocker from the Crue along with a long list of many. "Shout and the Devil" is from their earlier days when they wore the makeup more so and played with a little harder edge.
Saw this tour and I noticed the next day the shirt I wore had red stains all over it because they had dropped red water from the ceiling in honor of Theater of Pain name of the album. Great concert.
So yeah, Motley Crue came out in 1981. This is their 3rd album, so well into the 80's. A lot of the bands were trying recreate the Van Halen model. Or The Motley crue and Def Leppard model later on. But yeah, this was the style, you had to have this kind of element to your look/sound to get on MTV at the time.
I was backstage with these guys before their 1st album broke at the Starwood in Hollywood about 2 weeks before it burnt down.... I'm thinking about 82 or 83 maybe.... Maybe earlier.... So long ago
More Motley Crue please - "Girls, Girls, Girls" - "Without You" - "You're All I Need" - "Doctor Feelgood" Motley Crue can also be considered a glam-metal band.
This song Home Sweet Home is from their 3rd album Theatre of Pain and their only ballad. Their first album, Too Fast for Love, was released in 1981. 2nd album Shout at the Devil was released in 1981. Theatre of Pain was released in 1985. They released their 4th album Girls, Girls, Girls in 1987. They were the ultimate partiers with more drugs and alcohol than you could imagine. Rumor has it that the only person that could party as hard as them was Ozzy Osbourne. After this album their manager and others forced them into rehab. Their 5th album Dr. Feelgood was released in 1989. It was the first album Mötley Crüe recorded after their quest for sobriety and rehabilitation.
This is one of their biggest hits! You have to see the tribute of this song performed by a country artist named Justin Moore, I believe that's his name.
GNR singer Axl Rose hated the big hair. It's why he always wore a bandana.Vince Neil (Motley Crue singer) actually punched GNR guitarist (not Slash) backstage at the 1989 VMA awards. That started a feud between Axl Rose & Vince Neil wanting to fight each other.Nothing ever came of it
GNR opened for Motley in 1987. They were very tight before they had a falling out. Slash was with Nikki Sixx the night he “died” from a heroin OD before he was revived in the ambulance.
Sam...you may have heard this at the end of the movie Hot Tub Time Machine. That movie had tons of nostalgic moments and was a pretty popular movie at its time. It's also run A LOT on cable channels.
Another couple of great tracks from the early days of The Cruel .. Live Wire and Piece of Your Action from the debut. A very impressive heavy banger, from the Dr. Feelgood CD is the title song. Members of Motley Crue said they hate the Theater Of Pain LP and this track, plus the remake of Smoking 🚬 in the Boys Room, were the only 2 songs "that saved that album.
Great Song One of their Best Like Aerosmith Motley Crue’s Debut Album is My Favorite The Crue has Soo many Great Songs & Albums Great Reaction As Always
This is in my top 2 for 80s metal power ballads. The other one is Slaughter's song 'Fly to the Angels'. It's soo good, really heartbreaking but not sappy and it still really rocks out'.
The concert footage for this video was taken from the Houston and Dallas shows on that tour (Theater of Pain).. I was at the Houston show.. My Girlfriend worked at a local Radio station and got us backstage passes and Meet and Greet credentials for the show.. while backstage the video producer asked if she would like to be in the video.. of course she said yes.. so they staged beforehand for her to be carried off stage by security during one of the songs.. she's the girl in blue getting carried away at 3:28 in this reaction video.. at 2:18 in the original video.. the girl leaning up on the stage in the very next scene was also with us.. that's me (my arm) holding her back.. coincidentally, i ended up dating her a couple years later.. all the shots with the fans were staged ahead of time.. they were all VIP/Backstage pass holders etc.. lots of fun.. met the band that night.. and again on the Dr Feelgood Tour.. I was in a local cover band and a buddy of mine was a promoter/concierge to the stars... he always got us backstage passes and we backdoored all the concerts that came to houston for like 15 years.. partied with the bands sometimes.. I met my future wife at an after party.. good times..
Rock ballads were already making it to the airwaves prior to this song, but this particular song put ballads over the top, to the point that all the other glam bands make at least one rock ballad, Crue wasn't a glam band, but they were definitely different from their first two albums. Whether Crue influenced GnR or not, they probably did to some degree, but there is an obvious difference between the two bands, even very early Crue compared to Appetite for Destruction. If you two decide to go down the road of glam rock/hair metal, it's a fairly deep catalogue of music. Not a fan myself, but I do have very fond memories of that time due to it being my teen years.
You guys might have heard this song from the movie "Hot Tub Time Machine". They played early near the beginning and at the end of the movie. If you've seen that movie, the opening song was actually a great classic 80's hard rock band called Autograph, with their song "Turn Up the Radio". But Crue had lots of songs, so you guys have a long adventure awaiting with Motley Crue.
GNR Was The Biggest Rock Band in Late 80'S, GNR Won The MTV Video Music Award (VMA), Since 1989,1990,1992,1993. Beating U2 Albums, Metallica Albums, And Nirvana Albums in The MTV Music Video Award. Then GNR Vacuum in The Middle Of 1993, Then Came The Famous Alternative Bands, Such As: Nirvana, Pearl jam, And SmashingPumpkins. Nirvana is Famous For Entering The Same Music Recording Studio As GNR, Namely Universal Studio Music, Through The Album Nevermind. Even though Previously Nirvana Was Not Famous at The Time, When They Were Still in Their Indipop Music Studio. The Famous Alternative Music Band From 1993-1995. Then GNR Held A Reunion At Troubadour in L.A. And The Coachella Music Festival in 2006. Many Hollywood Artists Came, Watched The GNR Reunion, Because Everyone Missed The Band GNR Rock Music, Because The Music GNR Was Very Nice To Hear. I Loved The Band GNR. From Solihin in Central Jakarta. Indonesia. 💖👫💖👫👌👍👏👏.
Motley Crue is one of only w bands that GnR respected. The Crue came out about 6 years before GnR. Both from LA, so they had a similar sound. Here's the Crue look by album... 1st - post apocalyptic 2nd - total glam 3rd - denim/leather/biker 4th - finally, just regular rock style. Not many clothes 😅
Don’t know if military personnel still do it, but when I was in from 88 to 92 when people were going back to the states from an overseas assignments would play the song.
While just called "hair bands" these days bands like Motley Crue, Poison, Giuffria, Europe, Vain, Faster Pussycat, etc were referred to as "hair metal bands". "Hair metal" was pretty much a sub-genre of classic metal that quickly became an off-shoot of rock/hard rock a little over a decade ago. Now it's just considered "hair bands" and classified as a mesh of glam/pop/rock, the inception of grunge, thrash and speed metal changed the way everyone looked at "hair metal". It's how bands like Queensryche, Whitesnake, etc have gone from their classic metal tags to progressive hard rock, blues rock, etc. There was a little joke that went around back in the day, it was said that hairspray companies would've all gone bankrupt if it wasn't for hair metal bands and their fans and how they took the hairspray industry profits from those of a small-town to those of an entire third-world nation due to MTV videos.
The next Motley Crue video you do "must" be "Wildside". The song, video, and drum set is fire! But I hope no one comments why. You need to see it!! 🤘😃
Absolutely!!
Agree 100% Follow that with Dr. Feelgood or Too Young To Fall In Love
@@Bigdogfindley or Primal Scream !!

Girls Girls Girls, Dr. Feelgood, any of the suggestive songs, Another Slice of Your Pie, Sticky Sweet, She Goes Down. They are a great band.
This is what started power ballads. It literally broke MTVs request line.
Open Arms started them. But this song def kept it going into the stratosphere..... Wasn't this #1 on Total Request for like a full year?

Guns & Roses use to open up for Motley Crue on the Girls Girls Girls tour '87-'88.
I was very much into New Wave in the 1980's but LOVED Motley Crue.
The last time I saw MC Tommys drum kit was on a circular roller coaster. This song is the best live.
The longest running#1 video on MTV ever! They finally just took it off
So yeah, Motley Crue came out in 1981. This is their 3rd album, so well into the 80's. A lot of the bands were trying recreate the Van Halen model. Or The Motley crue and Def Leppard model later on. But yeah, this was the style, you had to have this kind of element to your look/sound to get on MTV at the time.
Every time I go home to visit the family. ❤
This was the power ballad. This song made it cool for metal bands to write ballads.
I was backstage with these guys before their 1st album broke at the Starwood in Hollywood about 2 weeks before it burnt down.... I'm thinking about 82 or 83 maybe.... Maybe earlier.... So long ago
This and Dont Go Away Mad are probably my favorites. And shout at the devil
absolutely awesome!!
Great Song, Many Good songs from them like Shout at the Devil & Doctor Feelgood
Motley Crue was the real bad boys of big hair rock! Great music!!
Guns and Roses opened for Motley Crue on part of the Girls, Girls, Girls tour in 1987.
The guys from GNR and Motley Crue were all friends and were all hanging out during the same time in LA
Love your content and your vibe! ✌& ❤ from Long Island N.Y.
You rock!
Smoking In The Boys Room, and Girls, Girls, Girls are two that y'all should check out by Montly Crew.
They were the real Rock Band and lived like it❤
Great reaction! 🥰
Thank you!! 😁
Love it❤❤❤Home Sweet Home
This is one of their biggest hits! You have to see the tribute of this song performed by a country artist named Justin Moore, I believe that's his name.
Quick story. Separated from wife, went to fla 6 months later headed home; this song came on my pinto radio about 1 minute into new jersey😊
I love motley crue, one of my favourites from them is Merry Go Round. I love the movie as well The Dirt
Excellent song! A++
The 80s,90s are the best music decades
Another couple of great tracks from the early days of The Cruel .. Live Wire and Piece of Your Action from the debut. A very impressive heavy banger, from the Dr. Feelgood CD is the title song. Members of Motley Crue said they hate the Theater Of Pain LP and this track, plus the remake of Smoking 🚬 in the Boys Room, were the only 2 songs "that saved that album.
Great reaction thanks.. I love Sam ❤❤❤
This song is fantastic 🤘
great line too , top metal
The song was so good you didn't even stop it
This is one of the first power ballads, but if you're looking for a banger song one of their best ones is "Girls, Girls, Girls."
Love Motley Crue 🤘🤘🤘
Journey was the best at ballads.. but I have to say the one that hits my heart the most is Poison.. Something to Believe In.
Great Song
One of their Best
Like Aerosmith Motley Crue’s Debut Album is My Favorite The Crue has Soo many Great Songs & Albums
Great Reaction
As Always
The best guitar solo by Mick Mars. Motley Crue had a great influence on the Guns n Roses. This is described in detail in the book "Dirt".
Check out "Louder Than Hell"live from Carnival of Sins concert 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Yeah, your right!
Gotta go, Girls, Girls, Girls ‼🍻
In the 80's with the Hairband/glam metal genre, record companies pretty much demanded bands have a power ballad on their album.
Hellyeah Frekn Tommy Lee!! B st all time party stories lol
You’re so right. That guy singing reminds me of axel so bad lol. Great band 👌
Indonesia. 💖👫💖👫👌👍👏👏.
they were a Glam Band for a Minute. Just good Ol' Hard Rock before and after that
Ya gotta do wild side and girls girls girls!! 👍
Dr Feelgood is a must reaction!
Motley Crue is one of only w bands that GnR respected. The Crue came out about 6 years before GnR. Both from LA, so they had a similar sound. Here's the Crue look by album...
1st - post apocalyptic
2nd - total glam
3rd - denim/leather/biker
4th - finally, just regular rock style. Not many clothes 😅
Love them❤
Don’t know if military personnel still do it, but when I was in from 88 to 92 when people were going back to the states from an overseas assignments would play the song.
