Nikki-- the bass player-- wrote this song after he overdosed, died and came back to life when the EMT gave him two shots of adrenaline in the ambulance in December 1987.
The paramedic who recognised him had a teenage daughter who adored Nikki. So that's why "Nikki ain't dying on my watch". And thus he was given the second shot of adrenaline in a (successful) attempt to revive him.
Let’s not forget he then went home after ripping the IVs out of his arm at the hospital, went home, and promptly went home to shut up again. That time he OD’d but not to the point of death. It helped him realize he had a problem.
Motley definitely embodied the "Sex, drugs, & rock'n'roll" decadence of the 80s. They were famous and infamous, and they liked it that way! Yes, I would consider them a "Glam metal" band. One of my favorite songs by them is "Wild Side". Definitely a darker song but you can barely notice through the energy they gave onstage.
Kickstart my heart was written by bass player Nikki Sixx after he overdosed on heroin. His heart stopped and they injected adrenaline directly into his heart to start it again. They literally kick started his heart!!!
Shout at the Devil, Too Fast for Love, Wild Side, Home Sweet Home. . Kickstart my Heart was from Dr. Feelgood and most likely their largest selling commercial record. Lost of singles including Dr. Feelgood worth the listen but it was a huge Tour despite my love of Motley Crue with their previous catalog as sings mentioned above.
I have been an all time Mötley Crüe fan since I was 12. And I am 51 now. I will always love this band. Kickstart my Heart is up beat song full of energy. And after 42 years they are still kicking butt and amazing. They are the main reason I was given an electric guitar at 15. Keep Rocking guys! I think you should check out Wild side.
🎶When we started this band All we needed, needed was a laugh Years gone by, I'd say we've kicked some ass When I'm enraged or hittin' the stage Adrenaline rushing through my veins And I'd say we're still kickin' ass🎶
The "alien voice" at the end is a talk box. Other songs that used it are Peter Frampton - Do You Feel Like We Do, Bon Jovi - Livin' on a Prayer and Joe Walsh - Rocky Mountain Way
Yes, they started in Southern CA. They shared an apt down the street from the Whiskey in Hollywood where they got started. They threw legendary loud parties at their apt after the gigs at the Whiskey.
This is hair band metal of the late 80s and early 90s. This is a kick ass song. They have quite the catalog of songs to enjoy. They are definitely a live band.
I saw this tour in 1989. One of my top concerts of all time. I almost got sent home from high school for wearing an explicit concert shirt. Haha! Instead they made me turn the shirt inside out, and told me to never wear it again. haha! Great reaction! How about "Looks that Kill" next?!
Not sure if it was already said, but the voice effects at the end was a talkbox he was using with his guitar. Really cool tech that I believe was first used (or at least popularized) by Peter Frampton.
I'm sure that you guys have created one HELL of a kick-ass playlist for the gym after hearing all these "new" songs your subs have turned you on to. I'm picturing the "stank faces" and the heads bangin' during your workouts (just like we're seeing here) and folks looking at you like you've lost your minds. Embrace the "stank face"! I'm almost 6 decades old and I STILL carry on in my car like I'm in high school. Great channel, great song and (as always) great reaction, guys.
You two would have totally LOVED the 80's. I"m tellen' ya. One heck of a decade. woof. I think I'd go to jail if I told you stories. This is Metal. Not heavy metal....but came from Heavy metal. They really were the first of the Hair Metal Bands. They still had the hard rock to them ( Think Thin Lizzy~ the boys are back in town or Van Halen ~ too many) but added a lot of Glam and hair spray. Some other bands like this White Snake Winger etc all went the big hair glam route.
@@stoneysopranoyukon9398 That was at a point where I started thinking the band had gotten too glam/poppish. But it too has its moments. I never owned Dr. Feelgood, other than Kickstart I'd turn the radio station if any song from it or newer from them came on the radio. I was really into the early band, the first 3 albums are perfect from them in my humble opinion. If they'd have broken up after those releases, I'd probably still have respect for them...I feel the same way about Def Leppard, and a few other bands from that era that I also saw as sellouts before the 80's were even over.
Crue pretty much set the standard for Hard Rock Hair Metal Glam Rock bands back in the day. The tickets to Dr Feelgood or any of their shows were worth every penny I spent. The same energy portrayed in the video was the way they did it on stage. Tommy had insane drum kits he could play this song perfectly while being spun on his rotating rig end over end . The writing of Nicky & Mic was amazing Vince on vocals, he has one of those unique voices that others tried to copy but failed miserably in the attempt. A band you will never forget seeing live.
Oh and the " Wildside " video ,that one is f'n awesome, there's one great part in the middle of the video that you have never seen happen in any other videos from ANYONE!!!
The Crue! Terrifically fun glam/hair metal band, with one of the greatest & most underrated lead guitar players EVER in Mick Mars, the "alien" on the voice box. Thanks for your reaction.
That's when music was the best, Sorry to you younger generations, you will never know how it was. This is why we are still rocking this music, so many years later.
I love these guys. I love that high octane music. I had this particular song on my iPod when I went to the gym to boost my energy. I saw them live like 30 years ago and THAT was a good time. They blew the power 3x. 🤣🤣🤣
Everybody has that one song that makes them really hit the accelerator when driving. I've dodged many a speeding ticket listening to this one😂Definitely my fave!
Absolute BEST live shows! They gave you a complete show. Huge pyro, Tommy had from rotating drums to his roller coaster...... And can't forget Tommy's camcorder lol
I have seen them twice in concert within the last two years(KC in 2022 and Omaha in 2023) and while they are not the same as they were in the 90s, it was a very enjoyable show.
Your first exposure to Motley Crue was them at the absolute top of their game! This came out when I was in high school and had just gotten my first car, a 1971 Pontiac Firebird. This song and driving was not a good combination for me because as soon as it came on my foot automatically went down on that gas pedal even harder! This was the first tour I saw the Crue on and they opened the show with this song. What a way to get the audience into even more of a frenzy then they already were. I think you should go back and start at the beginning with their hard edge track, Live Wire.
I got my first speeding ticket while driving fast on the the highway years ago while this song was jamming loud on my stereo! You can’t help but drive fast and not even realize it then 🤷🏻♂️😎
At Universal in Florida they have a roller coaster called the Rocket where you have a minute or so to pick a song off their playlist to listen to individually during the ride- Kickstart My Heart was the perfect jam!
Yes it is such a catchy tune it was dangerous to drive to this song. We used to blare this song and go on what we called death cruises. Up a windy mountain rd at about 60-70 mph racing. None of us called killed thankfully but we were crazy. I miss the 80's 😢
They were part of the huge bunch of bands that cut their teeth playing the Sunset Strip in Hollywood from the late seventies through the eighties.........releasing their fist album in 1981. This song was partly inspired by the near death experience of bass player Nikki Sixx as a result of a heroin overdose. That modulated voice you heard was guitarist Mick Mars using a "voice box"......the first time most of us heard one being used was Peter Frampton in 1976, but Joe Perry of Aerosmith also used one in a song before that.
Oh man, 80s metal was freakin awesome…just the best time. How many weekends cruisin the strip blasting everything from Boston, Skynyrd, Van Halen, Scorpions…& the Crüe!! 🤘😎
"Wild Side", "Dr. Feelgood", "Girls, Girls, Girls", "Home Sweet Home", "Shout At the Devil" are all great songs to react to next. Y'all will like any of them. Enjoy this journey. \m/
The guy driving the car is Sam Kinison. If you haven't heard his comedy, do so. Now. We'll wait. These guys were 80's royalty. The height of hair metal. Debuted in 81, and ruled the decade. Dr. Feelgood came out about the time I hit High School. You couldn't pass by a Camaro or Trans Am that didn't have them blaring. It was a part of the culture.
It’s odd for me that people haven’t heard of Motley Crue and the other 80’s rock band, but I did grow up and was a teen in the 80’s so my concert consisted of these guys and others. It was definitely a free time of wild music and lots of fun. I look back now and realize that I feel sorry for the ushers and security back then because the concerts got rough.
Don't know if they opened a set with this, but what a show-starter this woulda been. Can't remember how many times I've seen Crue over the years, but that might be because I can't really remember being there.
Saw them open for OZZY. HOLY S**t was the only reaction I could come up with. They were awesome. If the night ended after that I would have been satisfied. Made OZZY bring his A game. What a night
Great Reaction! You can’t go wrong with Motley Crue! Girls, Girls, Girls is a great song… there’s the nice version & the after hours version 😉 you should also react to 1988 “Wild Thing” by Sam Kinison; he was the chauffeur in the video, a famous comedian from the 80’s known for his screams. It’s a fun great video featuring famous musicians from the 80’s.
The Limo driver was Sam Kinison. an entire different Rabbit hole to fall into. He was a stand up comedy performer that you really need to check out along your journey of discovery
Back in ‘81 this was considered hard rock and know it is considered “glam rock”. I saw there first show at The Wiskey A Go-Go on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood Ca.
they captured a Wanderlust of thrillseekers in song form. Reaction channels are good because a lot of them are reviewing the hair metal era. Really was incredible. The Purge of 92 by the record companies was a crime.
Reportedly this song is about Nikki Sixx' revival. One day Sixx literally died and when paramedics arrived they shot him with Adrenaline as a last ditch effort to save him, so the Adrenaline "kickstarted" his heart! Maybe true. Other Crue songs - Live Wire, Shout at the Devil, Too Young to Fall in Love, Home Sweet Home, Wild Side, Girls Girls Girls, Dr. Feelgood, Don't Go Away Mad.
Nikki-- the bass player-- wrote this song after he overdosed, died and came back to life when the EMT gave him two shots of adrenaline in the ambulance in December 1987.
I have heard repeatedly through the years that the EMT recognized him and said Nikki ain't dying on my watch.
I was a young adult then and heard about that.
Why do I get the feeling there were no stories from him about going into the light?............🔥😉🤣
The paramedic who recognised him had a teenage daughter who adored Nikki. So that's why "Nikki ain't dying on my watch". And thus he was given the second shot of adrenaline in a (successful) attempt to revive him.

80s concerts were so much fun seeing these videos and remembering back we had so much fun in the 80s 🤘🏼🤘🏼 they will never be another time like it
I agree, It was a great time to be a teen. 🤘🤘

"Dr Feelgood" and "Smokin In The Boys Room" are a must. They are awesome. You can never go wrong with 80's music.
Yes, you can.. That's what motivate the whole, glorious GRUNGE in the end of that decade, into the 90's.
Excellent reaction. My favorite Motley Crue song.
Wild side, home sweet home, looks that kill, same old situation, Dr. Feelgood, live wire. So many kick ass songs..
Yes, they started in Southern CA. They shared an apt down the street from the Whiskey in Hollywood where they got started. They threw legendary loud parties at their apt after the gigs at the Whiskey.

One of the most high energy songs of any era. As soon as that first guitar lick hits its time to rock!
I saw this tour in 1989. One of my top concerts of all time. I almost got sent home from high school for wearing an explicit concert shirt. Haha! Instead they made me turn the shirt inside out, and told me to never wear it again. haha! Great reaction! How about "Looks that Kill" next?!
Got to see them 3 times back in the day. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE MOTLEY CRUE!!!❤❤❤❤
Not sure if it was already said, but the voice effects at the end was a talkbox he was using with his guitar. Really cool tech that I believe was first used (or at least popularized) by Peter Frampton.
best of my high school years listen to them.
The whole "Dr Feelgood" album from 1989 is incredible! This was Motley Crue at its best in the late 1980s to very early 1990s.
Awesome choice! This is what I grew up on and it still kills 🔥🔥🔥

The Whisky a go go where they started. One of the big LA rock avenues of the day. Right on the Sunset Strip and still around today.
You two would have totally LOVED the 80's. I"m tellen' ya. One heck of a decade.

Awesome thank you!
This is my absolute FAVORITE song ever. BRAVO
Would love to see you both do a review of some earlier Motley songs, either from Shout at the Devil or Theater of Pain.
Girls,Girls, Girls kicks ass too.

B & B love the reactions. Tommy Lee is the drummer, and he showcases his prowess on Dr feel good- it is a intense banger and a good story
Tommy Lee the drummer used to have a spinning drum set, and notoriously was with Heather Locklear and years later Pam Anderson.
Been to many Crue concerts. Always a great time!!!
The fact they got one of the lead guitarists of the Motley Crue and Elton John in one of the Fall Out Boys video albums is still amazing to me.
Can't go wrong with some motley! I was in my 20s in the 80s, the greatest decade!
On that album Tommy beat those drums like they owed him money
I saw them in the 80'S during their Girls Girls Girls tour. It was incredible!
I was 15 when i 1st heard it.. And i still listen to it today.. 49 this year
Saw them live in Dallas when Dr. Feel-good came out.. Tommy came up and out in the air playing his drums over the crowd with a lift... awesome
