Is he though? I think he's rated pretty highly considering overall social impact. His songs are all over pop culture, tons of movies and adds, his songs came out over 40 years ago and are still pairs regularly on the radio. I think he's great, but the "underrated" hyperbole is tired.
For those interested, here's the set list 00:00 Aint No Sunshine 03:18 Lonely Town Lonely Street 09:14 Grandma's Hands 11:40 Use Me 16:05 Let Me In Your Life 20:15 Lean On Me 24:47 Harlem and yes, that's WG Snuffy Waldren playing with Bill
Grandma Hands brought me here. That song lives in my soul. Majority of people’s Grandma was like a superhero to them. Sad my granny died on my birthday. My mother celebrates mines and mourn her mother. Grandma hands are still over us all.
From wikipedia: "Finding musical success later in life than most, at 32, he said he was socialized as a "regular guy" who had a life before the music, so he did not feel an inherent need to keep recording once he fell out of love with the industry.[8] After he left the music industry he said that he did not miss touring and performing live and did not regret leaving music behind.[8][11]" . I did not expect that.
He was so good, an exceptional songwriter with a beautiful voice that I could believe in. He got fed up with the music business and got out and had a life - but his music never left my life. Love him.
I strongly agree, Edward. That was nicely put. A voice I thoroughly believed in. I still believe in it. This is the authentic item here. The real deal. And I’m also glad he escaped and had a life. Cheers. 🕊 edit: Columbia screwed him royally. Made him a sharecropper on his own estate. That’s maddening.
What to say... Just the full package... Talented, humble, strong, prolific, working class, honest, truthful, musical, sincere, every-man, grounded, brother, funky, original, focused... what to say... I just want to share my gratitude, what a wonderful example of how to be a modern day artist and man. I can remind myself to at least aspire to some of these traits you inhibited during your time with us, go in peace, love and strength to your family and loved ones brother Withers, this is sad news but at the same time, after watching the set you played with your band of cool cat's I feel vibrant and connected, so thank you I guess, I shall be visiting your recordings for the rest of my life and introduce them to my own kids and everyone I care for. Sincerely, -Pablo van Wetten from Amsterdam
This is very true but also every legend has their day. Withers had not written anything like these timeless hits in many many years, he was an old but contented legend. He had already solidified his legacy and given the greatest gifts to the world, he had nothing left to prove
We Will Miss Bill Withers! Who is one of the inventors of the singer-songwriter idiom. Songs built on this much soul, it said, that once heard they can never be forgotten! R.I.P.!
Bill has influenced me with his music and life philosophy greatly. Amazing musician, but above all such a nice and humble person until the very end. One of a kind role model. Thank you, Bill.
Listen to what a famous person used to sounds like? Eloquent. Humble. Insightful. Wise. What the fuck happened!?!? Thank Bill. You and Bowie are the only I’ve ever cried for.
i could hear his voice in heaven and still know who it was ! . i rember watching this as a little boy sitting by the little small tv , tolf to be quiet waiting on mom to get home from work!
Everything about this performance is perfect, Bill Withers was amazing as usual, but what a backing band. They complimented him perfectly, nothing flashy but very precise, especially whoever is on the electric guitar!
I love listening to Bill Withers. I have always loved hearing his music on the radio. I was quite young when I first heard his songs. And I started liking when it would come on the radio. Once I grew up, I bought his CD.
This band was on fire. Road dogs that they were. No faking it. They sound so exquisitely tight, that they’re once again loose. No computer chicanery here. No high-tech hi jinx. I’ll take authenticity and pure musicianship over most of today’s contrived banality any day. They played with their ears and it shows.
@houseovragnar1528. Bill's God, Jesus, loves you too, no matter how dark a soul you may be. That's why He came to die: to set us free from all darkness and its power over us; to forgive you for every sin (every dark thing you've ever done). And to keep forgiving you because we are prone to making errors, big and small. He, Jesus (Bill's Grandma's God too), will give you a new start if you ask Him to... and believe Him. "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17). God wants to have not only Bill and his grandmother, but you too. Call on Him. He will hear and answer. Be blessed in Jesus Christ.
Rest in peace Bill, Your life was an overwhelming success! You became the best of the best in the eyes and ears of all. You brought use peace and happiness, and it don't get any better than that.
I love how this video showcases not just the music but also the man because both are so beautiful and full of soul. Truly one of the greatest R.I.P your in grandma's hands now
I’m not gonna lie. I had no idea who this man was. But listening to this and realizing how many people sampled his music showed me his influence. It’s nuts.
Thanks a lot for sharing this, I love this concert. I used to listen to another live performance from 1972 but it seems its gone now :/ it's from 1972 in the Old Grey Whistle Test show.
Bill withers is one of the most underrated singer ever
I just wrote almost the same exact thing...then read down and saw your post and deleted mine....I totally agree.
Can 1000% agree. Skàl 🤘🍻
Is he though? I think he's rated pretty highly considering overall social impact. His songs are all over pop culture, tons of movies and adds, his songs came out over 40 years ago and are still pairs regularly on the radio. I think he's great, but the "underrated" hyperbole is tired.
RIP you’ll be missed but always in our hearts and soul
24 year old here and I feel his music in my soul!!! Truly a one of a kind of our time ❤️❤️❤️
There really aren’t many good videos of Bill live. This is truly a masterpiece
thats right. i dont know why. she pass away in 2020
Bill withers didn't like performing, dancing, or big events. He was just an undeniable singer who was truly talented

So sad!! listened for YEARS such a special man
One of the most amazing performances I've ever seen. What an artist.

I did not expect that.
I'm not surprised that he didn't miss the industry , but I am surprised that he didn't miss performing
He was so good, an exceptional songwriter with a beautiful voice that I could believe in. He got fed up with the music business and got out and had a life - but his music never left my life. Love him.
Exceptional is not the word I would use. Just my 2 cents.

Pablo van Wetten Very well said
Strong words, which i totally share☺️
It cant be expressed better. That´s it. Thank you and thank Bill for being the way he was
I agree fully with you!
Another quiet legendary inspirational personality has departed. RIP
The problem is it keeps happening more and more as time goes on.
This is very true but also every legend has their day. Withers had not written anything like these timeless hits in many many years, he was an old but contented legend. He had already solidified his legacy and given the greatest gifts to the world, he had nothing left to prove
His soul lives on!
RIP. Lovely Day always puts me in that magical where all things are possible.
Perhaps the most poetic writer and singer soul consciousness of that era ................... And yes, the most underrated but never duplicated.
This video should have a billion views.

the only singe/song writer/musician on my deserted island. amour toujours!
BW was such a sexy talented man. The mold was broken after he was made. Truly 1 of a kind & such a pioneer...
Just feels like a Bill jam session on this cold morning in the North Georgia mountains. RIP Bill 🥺🖤
Listen to what a famous person used to sounds like? Eloquent. Humble. Insightful. Wise. What the fuck happened!?!? Thank Bill. You and Bowie are the only I’ve ever cried for.

Get in here and grieve with us...
Was in the music business for only 8 years but absolutely left his mark forever! RIP Bill
What was heartbreak this morning has been washed away. His music always made me feel better and today is no exception. Thank you Bill Withers.

@houseovragnar1528. Bill's God, Jesus, loves you too, no matter how dark a soul you may be.
