In the 1981, I co-owned a record store in Wenatchee WA. It was roughly a couple of hours away from Seattle. We sold tickets to every concert in Seattle and the surrounding cities. One day as I’m opening up the store, by myself, I’m 19 yrs old at the time, a Man approached me and asks if he can browse the store quickly as he and his friends are on their way to a show in Seattle. I said sure, come on in. I keep looking at this man, I knew I recognized him but I just couldn’t be sure. I had a pile of personal albums that I kept at the store. Something told me to pull out the Bill Withers album, and I’ll be damned! Here stood Bill Withers! We visited for a bit, he was incredibly gracious and a very kind man. He autographed all my albums, and also autographed a few copies we could then sell as collectibles. I’ve never forgotten that day, never will. RIP Mr. Bill Withers, you honored a young woman with such kindness, humility and grace. ❤️☮️🙏
The timing, syncopation (playing a variety of different rhythms), and the funky feel make this incredible. There are many drummers who can play fast but not many who can groove consistently like this.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I wish we could sing, together! I'm good. U bring me joy, Sir. Rest, My Love...u, ROASTING Mona Lisa, is all the laughter I need, now! 😆💕👏
He is in * Grandmas hands no doubt. So authentic a musician he was everything in the 70’s I still have album or two of his. You see the joy he found in music , you fly high Mr. Withers☮️☮️
I ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG!!! FROM LITTLE WILLIE JOHN! LITTLE MILTON! BONNIE RAITT!! BEAUTIFULL!! BILL PUT HIS MAGNIFICENCE!! ALL OVER THIS SONG!! LORD! HAVE MERCY!!! #2020!!
@@IvanMPylypchuk Unlikely - source is a BBC TV concert. Back then it would be good old mono straight to videotape, so unless someone thinks to remaster in stereo for CD release or 5.1 for DVD release, or someone is a wiz in Audacity or similar this is it.
STERIOAPPLE!! LITTLE WILLIE JOHN!! LITTLE MILTON!! BONNIE RAITT!! ALL DIFFERENT!!! BUT!! GREAT!! BUT!! IM REALLY ENJOYING!! BILL'S IT' TOTTALY UNIQUE!!!#2020!
Can someone please tell me what is he singing exactly? The lyrics are different - groovier than the original, and I want to cover the song like him. Please help !
I guess you could call it a confirmation by way of the negative comparison. Like when someone says, "If I'm lying, I'm flying!" In other words, "I'll complete all these incredible tasks just because of how much I love you. And if that ain't love; the Pope don't wear a pointy hat, and a bear don't crap in the woods, and all sorts of things we know to be true, just aren't true".

That’s a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing! ❤❤❤
James Gadson funking it up on drums like always:):)
The great James Gadson on drums. He is a human funk time machine.
Bill Withers was the Denzel Washington of R&B hell music in general.
That drummer is amazing. Rip Bill Withers, music will miss you.
James Gadson at his finest.
Can you explain why that is? I hear how pleasant his drums sound, but what makes it special?
@Mitch Kelley you won’t understand unless you start drumming

FUCK MUSIC,...THE WHOLE DAMN WORLD MISSES THE FLYING SHIT OUTTA' BILL.

You can tell they was all feeding off one another’s energy, watch the drummer, and key boardist, they became one in the groove… fly af!👏👏👏
The bass players glasses might be responsible for 66% of the groove in this room. lol
I've heard the popular tracks hundreds of times but his live stuff is soul changing
I ALWAYS LOVED THIS SONG!!! FROM LITTLE WILLIE JOHN! LITTLE MILTON! BONNIE RAITT!! BEAUTIFULL!! BILL PUT HIS MAGNIFICENCE!! ALL OVER THIS SONG!! LORD! HAVE MERCY!!! #2020!!

Rare and unreleased cover from a musical genius.

@marcusmarcuso6840 You gave a great explanation of the lyrics. Therefore, grits ARE groceries and Mona Lisa was NOT a full grown man!!
I meant @marcuscross6840
