Terry had that great voice, could shred if he wanted, bends, slides, wah pedal and tremolo master, but retained the flow and spirit of the song. I only wish the sound man would have allowed simply more volume, for his guitar!
They had soul, man..and with Pete Cetera on base with a voice like an angel and Lamm on the Keyboards, also a great singer & songwriter, along with the the three best horn players in the world of rock and roll!

That's pretty much all Neil young does is rhythm and vocals he does lead and vocals to . Srv and Hendrix are the masters at playing rhythm guitar and vocals 🤘
These guys were on fire this night. They didn't just play the music, they WERE the music. Even at 6:38 when Terry took a second to tune a string, he took it in stride and made it part of the performance - didn't phase him. I've never seen another band like this, ever. They not only set the bar, they WERE the bar!
Only other one I saw do that in stride, even drop his pick and make it part of the performance, to the point we're people even laughed with him about it was Hendrix. And as everyone knows, Jimi thought Terry was great. No secret two had a lot of respect for each other. And sadly, they both left us way too early.
Terry Kath is, was and will be the BEST live, studio, recorded and most talented guitarist of all time. Terry had to play both rhythm and lead and sing at the same time. Plus, he looked good. Post one band that is a band or could do it live. You are in the presence of greatness here.

top of the guitar " heroes " ......musical , fast and furious and so bluesy . This piece is
nothing but a " musical chef d'oeuvre " ....Vocals , instrus , groove ....are just MAGIC .
@cockyhemi He also described their horn players as “one set of lungs”. He admired the whole band, but Kath especially.
@@frankkolton1780 The label C.T A . ......was not allowed and leads to a trial from the
town of Chicago ...RIDICUL..U.S . !!!!!
I love them too… they would go to my friend’s farm after they played to play in their barn… great times!!!
I was 18 in 1970
The musicians weren’t given the credit they deserve …although famous the guitarist & drummer R fab!!!
I was there and is one of the greatest memories that I don't remember.
👍
What year and where was this event ?
Thanks
One band with 3 of the best vocalists of the 70’s. Sometimes lightening strikes.
Not only is Terry Kath a guitar God, but I love his soulful voice. Awesome.
You got that right!!!!
He was Mr Hendrix favorite guitarist....
So there you go....
The great Jimi also liked Billy Gibbons, said that to Johnny Carson
It's like John Fogerty big powerful cousin...
RIP .TERRY WE MISS YOU!!
Every time I have watched this I have said damn, what in the hell just happened? These guys were up there having the time of their lives. The Terry Kath years were the absolute best!
Definitely ! I have always liked "Chicago" but they were never better than when Terry Kath was in the band !
Terry Kath is one of the finest guitarists in history...
amen brother
Terry had that great voice, could shred if he wanted, bends, slides, wah pedal and tremolo master, but retained the flow and spirit of the song. I only wish the sound man would have allowed simply more volume, for his guitar!
You Sir are 100% correct!!
He could do everything well.
I should be happy when I hear Terry play - but I'm sad when I think of the magic we missed when we lost him...
Terry Kath and a world class drummer....can't get any better than that. And....it's not a song, it's a party! These guys were phenomenal.
Peter Centara was a good bass player and great voice too.
@@cliffbrown2566 Not world class though. Just ask Entwistle, Squire or Pastorius.
They had soul, man..and with Pete Cetera on base with a voice like an angel and Lamm on the Keyboards, also a great singer & songwriter, along with the the three best horn players in the world of rock and roll!
@@pepeboy234 you might be stretching it a bit on the horn sections. They are outstanding yes but Tower of Power's horn section set the standard by which others are judged
W
Danny Seriphin on drums!!!!
The Original Chicago !
If Terry Kath isn't in the the top 5 guitarists guitarist that ever played he's in the top 3!!! Remember this was early 70's. I think he is the greatest rock guitarest ever!!!
The original band was so very talented. Kath on guitar and vocals, Cetera on bass and vocals,Lamm on keyboards and vocals, Saraphine on drums and that amazing horn section of Loughnane,Pankow and Parazaider.
Yes it is
They were exceptional !
This is 50 yrs old, and still better than ANY of the crap music they make today.
Amen to that. I don’t call it music today my friend. I think people didn’t know that real musicians actually played live. And with instruments!!!!’ Seriously
They were never quite the same without Terry Kaths guitar and vocals.😞
Damn straight!
Fuckin A..
Amen. Saw them freshman year of college in ‘69, Philadelphia, PA.
Terry Is unreal good.
When you have 7 guys on stage, and only 1 is playing guitar...be thankful it's Terry Kath. MERCY!!
Je suis d'accord, il est terrible ce mec !!!
Somewhere is a clip where someone asked Jimi Hendrix how it felt to be the greatest guitar player in the world and his response was "I don't know, ask Terry Kath".
@@ericfrance1792 You two may have missed each other's meaning in the translation.
YOU NAILED IT!
Kath was a good as anyone I've ever heard.
Dudes the most underrated guitar player of his time...if not all time.
Mike Romigh you bet,and still loved!
Amen!
Absolutely!! Voted guitar god of 1970 as good as any of them Hendrix Eddie van Hanlon Clapton etc.
Jimy Hendrix said" I am good guitarist but this cat "Terry Kath" blows me away."
Underrated by whom? Madonna fans? Beyonce fans? J-Lo fans? Those opinions are worthless.
51 years ago and Terry Kath still one of the all time great guitarists!!
I couldn't agree more.
Jimi Hendrix said in an interview that Kath was the greatest guitarist
Without a doubt.....he was one of the best of all time
WOW!, just........WOW!!!
I read many of these comments, and I agree with everyone. Terry Kath was an awesome rock guitarist, and his solo on 25 or 6 to 4 is one of the best solos. I don't understand why he is not on the Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists list. If fans had a vote, he definitely would be on it.
Terry Kath Out of this Universe, No one could catch him, No One!🎉 Absolute Genius 🎸🎶🎶
RIP Terry, you left us a treasure!
Everyone of these guys has got it dialed up....to...11
I got to see these guys at the Seretean Center on the OSU, Oklahoma State University, campus in 1972 or 73. I was fortunate to see quite a few good bands during that time. Chicago stands out in my memory.
WOW! I can’t say anything else that hasn’t been said already. This is music in my mind. Terry, R.I.P. We miss you!
Terry Kath was phenomenal. What an amazing guitarist and singer! I was so fortunate to see Chicago in their original form in the mid-1970’s.
Yes, I got to see them Live as well back then
Henry Arevalo, I also seen the full lineup at Hampton Roads Coliseum in Virginia in 1975 when I was in the Navy on my first ship the USS BLANDY DD-943. AMAZING SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
me to
Lucky
I saw them in Cincinnati Ohio in 1976. Phenomenal!!
Holy shit....no band ever played harder and at the level. Just beating the shit out of there gear and sounding good. Every single person at the concert was speechless driving home there all like the WTF was that???? WOW!!!
One of the greatest bands ever
They are that good wow
The best, NO ONE will ever outclass that group, or ever produce finer rock and roll that touches the heart! Terry, I wish you hadn't left us so young in your career, In my mind, no one can ever replace you!
Hard to believe that Terry Kath was self taught...just brilliant..!
He was a genius. They are almost always self taught.
He did take music lessons. But abandoned them because he thought they were too limiting. Lucky for us he did.
u can be taught an instrument,u can't learn soul!
@@hmackie6823 don't understand..?
@@hmackie6823 fortunately Chicago had plenty of soul.
Don't mind me HELL YES THEY ARE STILL THE GREATEST!!!!!!!
One of the best drum solos in rock.
He is not human incredible
The interplay between the band on percussion and the drum solo is phenomenal
WOW!!WEE!!WOW!WOW! This was over 50 years ago!! Still one of the greatest live performances ever!!
This is what a dedicated group of musicians and raw talent with ancient equipment can create with a Lil heart n soul ..this is real music ...nothing fake here ....simply amazing too ...CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY ....OR JUST CHICAGO !!! WOW!!!.
Finest band
Just WOW. Never again in history will that happen ! We miss you Chicago from that era..😢
Terry Kath ….the man, the myth, the legend!! He’s in my TOP FIVE all time guitarists. Ridiculous talent!!
Mine too........definitely a member of a very very exclusive club !!
Top 20 performance in rock history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw them in 1972, Baltimore civic center.. freakin awesome
Terry Kath playing rhythm, lead and singing at the same time. How many guitarists could do that? And at that level.
Great guitarist and vocalist.
Cerati
@@josarchila2 Not at Terry's level.....
That's pretty much all Neil young does is rhythm and vocals he does lead and vocals to . Srv and Hendrix are the masters at playing rhythm guitar and vocals 🤘
Steve Gaines Rory Gallagher
@@chrisberg2083 Steve Gaines is Rory Gallagher??
These guys were on fire this night. They didn't just play the music, they WERE the music. Even at 6:38 when Terry took a second to tune a string, he took it in stride and made it part of the performance - didn't phase him. I've never seen another band like this, ever. They not only set the bar, they WERE the bar!
I had never noticed Terry tuning that string before you mentioned it - and I have viewed this video a number of times. Good catch!
The best musicians in the world right hear guys.
Prince definitely comes to mind.
@@MASTERTHEMEME here
Terry Kath is, was and will be the BEST live, studio, recorded and most talented guitarist of all time. Terry had to play both rhythm and lead and sing at the same time. Plus, he looked good. Post one band that is a band or could do it live. You are in the presence of greatness here.
Even now, when I'm in a good mood, which is rare amidst all the crap goin' on, I use Terry's saying. "Alright, let's kep it goin'!"
Terry Kath was so talented. Miss him so. Thank God for these old videos. When he passed the frenetic energy of Chicago left with him.
Plus he lead and drove the band!
so true...
@@michaelmoss6110 sort of like Carlos Santana?
CTA Chicago played at a bar in Chicago called "Mothers" for one year every Saturday night!!! I danced with that band that whole year and loved them!!! I think the bar is still there---1200 North on Division Street!!!!
Nothing fancy here, no light show, no Marshall stacks, no smoke and no fanfare.......just come out on the stage and PLAY! Chicago did it better than them ALL!!
And no brigade of dancers
I only saw them once at Wesley in Middletown Connecticut. My mind is still blown there were the greatest thing ever
