I don't think you'll find one single person complain about the length of your videos...in fact just the opposite. Keep them coming - it's some of the greatest content out there and it's refreshing to see such great workmanship. Thanks again for all your hard work.
I haven’t pulled apart a HPP since the late 80’s. Your video lets me do it again without even going out to the garage! That’s a pretty gross looking reed block assembly. I’ve never seen one that bad.
The yellow tape protecting the frame looks like it is supposed to be there as part of the paint scheme. Threw me off for a bit. Good stuff! Cannot wait for next video!
Just quality, best restoration channel on UA-cam bar none. Every nut & bolt gets made to look new, purely awesome. You did kind of get me going with using the old piston, but then i thought with you saying about not bothering to polish the bore i thought old piston being reused is fine. But i then thought naa, that's just not your style lol. Looking foward to the next instalment.
Your attention to detail is incredible. The term ‘totally restored’ is overused, in my opinion. Oftentimes, the ‘totally restored’ car, truck, bike, etc. has a flame paint job, aftermarket wheels, custom interior, and so on. What I love about this channel is that you’re doing everything you possibly can to actually restore it to what the piece was on the day it came off the assembly line. Thank you for sharing what it takes to actually restore something. Cheers.
Thank you so much for that comment, It means alot when someone actually understands the amount of work it takes to properly "restore" something anyone can make something look restored but its a whole different ball game to make it as good as new again.
I had 2-strokes back in the '70s and '80's, was aware of 2-strokes with power-valves but never had/worked on them (I knew reed valves). This video series is a real pleasure, thank you RRC. All your videos are excellent and informative, but this Honda rebuild is extra special. Oh, and you didn't get me with the piston, I've watched too many of your videos to be caught by your tricky ways........
Seeing your bike in orangey red, with blue springs, and the yellow tape just catapulted me down memory lane, and brought back thoughts of a Suzuki GP100 I had. I was a 17 year old engineering student when I got that, so It went through a couple of incarnations before I rebuilt it as a café racer. It had a drop handlebars, a skinny single seat with a hump, and everything painted black. I ran it like that for about a year, and during that time the comment I KEPT hearing was "Why have you wasted your time modifying that? It's not a real motorbike. It's just a toy". 😒 Anyway. A couple years later a car knocked me off it, and once their insurance had paid out I decided to rebuild the GP yet again. It remained styled as a café racer, but this time I sprayed the frame and forks a nice pastel blue, went for an orangey red on the tank, mudguard and seat hump, went with a bright yellow for the wheels (Including the hubs and spokes !) and for the engine I decided on a gloss black........ Erm....... "TS250 SAVAGE" lump that I'd modified the frame to take ! 🙄 . With that all done I got a vinyl cutting place to make me up some "Fisher Price" logos for the tank, and "Babies first motorbike" stickers to go on the sides of the seat hump. I really embraced the "It's only a toy" comments and ran with it. For some reason women absolutely LOVED the absurdity of that bike, and turning up anywhere on it was an instant ice breaker (It was also responsible for me getting asked out for drinks on quite a few occasions). Bikers hated it, but most other people would walk past something like a Harley Electra glide to get a better look at "Babies first bike". 😀 None of my car obsessed friends ever did notice that engine swap though (And no one questioned why I didn't need L plates on it anymore either). They DID notice it was pretty quick after the rebuild though, but whenever any of them asked how a 100cc bike could suddenly keep up with their cars, I'd just mumble something like "Oh....... Polished the transfer ports" or "Free flow exhaust". 😁 Unfortunately a change of circumstances meant I needed to sell it to help fund getting a car. A young lady bought it, and I can't recall what I got for it, but I do remember she went for a test ride, then on returning was very chatty and paid the full asking price without haggling........ An explanation I like for this was that there wasn't much padding on that seat, and those 250 singles did vibrate quite a bit !🤣 I'd love to know whatever happened to it in the end, but it was half a lifetime ago, and I can't even remember the reg number now. 😥
Love that comment thank you so much for leaving it, that's what i love about the little community we have here on RRC hearing all the weird and wonderful tales from everyone. Its so nice :)
this series hits close to home as my brother bought the same bike new in 86. nothing was close to as good as that stock Honda. looking forward to seeing and hearing it fully restored
Beautiful! I'm usually so mesmerized by your excellent work that I take your fantastic videoing and editing for granted, but that's what really makes your videos second to none!
Fantastic restoration so far, one thing I would say is if you didn't replace the reed petals I would recommend that you do as they have a service life and if they are metal ones and they brake it would ruin your engine, can't wait to see the end result, keep up the good work 👍
Never ever apologize for uploading a long video. Your videos are my go-to when I want to just sit back and relax. Best 30 to 45 minutes I will ever spend on a slow weekend.
These are awesome restorations and videos. One thing that might help is you can tap the tape on raised letters and surfaces with a plastic hammer and it will make a natural exact cut of the tape. No need to use a razor blade, the cut is perfect, and it saves a lot of time.
That vapor blaster is awesome. I wanna have one too, and when I run out of bike parts that didn't need cleaning, I'd move on to other useless stuff like a jar of peanut butter just because it's fun to use.
Excellent work Bud, the production side of your videos has become better and better and is as good as your mechanical and restoration work. Nice to see the humorous touches too, it adds bit of humanity and shows your personality. It's good to be frugal too, as you have to watch the pennies but you do spend the money where it counts. For real penny pinching tips go to someone from Yorkshire. They are like Scotsmen that have had all the generosity squeezed out of them!🤣🤣
I thought sure you would trick us on the piston installation with IN to the front of the engine - but hooray, you didn't! Thanks so much for your attentive considerations when recording and producing these videos. I'm hopeful you view counts are steadily increasing because the content and quality are both there. All the best!
Damn i didn't even think to flip the piston the wrong way... Oh well there's always next time ;) haha. Thank you very much for leaving a comment and hopefully the views will start picking up again soon :)
Great work with fantastic attention to the little details that make thing just right. Stop buggering about with your tricks, though... I just about had a panic attack when you started shoving that old piston in... and without the gudgeon pin circlips, too. Nearly killed me, you tool!! Can't wait for the next episode and when I move house and get somewhere with a decent garage I'll be looking for an old two-stroke banger to restore.
Well thanks again for a great video, and I actually learnt something today, about HPP I hadn’t known about this before today. I was most got buy your piston trickery LoL.
awesome video bud the bike will be like a work of art when it gets done. i would say this series is the quintessential old dirt bike restoration vid series. many thanks!
Love the vids ! yours alone are helping me restore an evo 8 atm. I see you like tools - any problems with nuts and bolts get an induction heater, saved me a many tears
Many Thanks for this amazing and fanstastic video, this bike will be better than new, i am a Motocross fan of the 80's and for me it's a real pleasure, you rules !
With the engine fully restored and built up and back in the frame its looking like a Honda again 👌 very nice job 👏 👍 it is. loving your videos from all your series keep them coming well done
As the incredible Ave Ventura would say....B-E-A-Utiful! Just love your methodical, and clean way of doing things. A pleasure to watch and cannot wait for the next episode.
Mate I hope the lower view count doesn't discourage you from bike videos in the future. This series and the bike were a masterpiece. On par with the 916.

So Therapeutic. Thanks for the simple and concise power port explanation and the paint labels.
No problem at all ;)
I’ve probably said this before but the quality of your work is superb, great job 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much 😀
I always use black permanent marker after trimming the gaskets on those edges. Gives me a cleaner look without some green or blue lines 😉

I would like to know what the blue stuff he is using before putting the gasket in place ?
@@nelsonpires538 non melting grease
Being honest; yes, you fooled me a bit with the old piston. :)
Good job! The engine looks better than new.
Same i was like really all that work for an old piston?
Haha glad you fell for my little joke ;)
Never again....not when he got me last time with the Subaru fuel filler neck! 🤣
Wow!!
That was one of the best YT tutorial, I have ever watched. Absolutely Superb!
🏁🏆
excellent job !
21:55 tip, never fit the piston pin clip with the rag removed. if it falls inside the crankcase, you might be in trouble :)
Ohhhh weee... I've been stuck home for 4 days in covid and finally have something good to watch 😍❤️😍❤️
Aww no im sorry to hear that. Hope my video makes you feel a bit better.
You are the best restoration channel in you tube for sure 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
The Scothbrite pads in the parts washer basket is a great idea.
Apart from the impeccable technical work, you are doing such a great job with camera(s), really amazing.
Thank you :)
The hpp really makes you appreciate the stuff Honda did for performance early on in Motorsports
I haven’t pulled apart a HPP since the late 80’s. Your video lets me do it again without even going out to the garage!
That’s a pretty gross looking reed block assembly. I’ve never seen one that bad.
That's so many part's for 2 Stoke 80's engine
Excellent work

Good stuff! Cannot wait for next video!
Haha glad im not the only one that thinks that, it really does look like a factory effect haha
Omg she's going to look better than the day she rolled out the factory! Great job👌👍👍

Amazing CR250 resto by Arkwright (from Open All Hours) we like the brown overalls!
She's getting to be a real looker with all the attention your showing her. Certain the bike hasn't glistened as well as it does now.
Thank you, lets hope so :)
When Honda should hang their head in shame about quality workmanship… 11/10 for detail. You legend, you set the standard, sir. 👍
That vapor blaster! Too bad I don’t have any more room. That thing is amazing.
Correct pronunciation of “vice versa” didn’t go unnoticed. 👌
You doing a great job on your videos! It is (like you written) heart warming how you taking care of all that details. Just keep it up!!

Trying my best my friend :)
Awesome work.. 👍 you got me with the piston replacement buddy!💪😁
Not even being hyperbolic: This is the *the best* engine & chassis restoration/build channel on UA-cam.
You're too kind :)
Hands of a surgeon.
No, you didn't fool me for a moment for the piston and rings ☺️! We know you 😉! It's a pleasure to watch you work!

Haha gotcha ;)

Another brilliant episode. Thank you 👍
I'm always so excited for your new videos. Waiting is hell. But the more we wait the better the video is.
Thank you, I can only apologize for the wait time :( but restoration at this level takes time ;)
@@RRCRestoration I can tell by the quality of the restoration.

love it. For a guy who uses a Torque wrench as often as you do, you have to bend all the way down there everytime...bottom draw ergonomic...
