As a clockmaker, this was really cool to watch. Here's a tip: you can use the big gear train which you used to drive the hands, to power the escapement. Just apply the torque somewhere in there and it should work
When he said he made a long gear train I was sure this was what he meant he was gonna do. I ho early think it's cool to see someone slowly learn how a clock works and build one THAT WORKS!!! is it efficient? Maybe not, but he learned how it worked, created one, tuned his own escapement, it was just awesome.
As someone who actually repairs mechanical clocks, this was incredibly entertaining. That said, you did a really good job for 5 minutes of googling 😊 Thanks for making the video!
You're quickly becoming one of my favorite youtubers, this is some of the most interesting gaming/engineering/design content ive seen and i cant get enough of it
I love how he is so good at planning builds and coming up with ideas but he still forgets that large wheels only have 4 attachment points on the rim. He might be new to this game but he can still make a mean piece of tech
Your videos are really interesting, I'm kinda hooked. I think "Space Engineers" on steam would be a good fit for the creation style videos. It has all the basic mechanical stuff (piston, rotor, hinge) and an API in C# for controlling it all in game. Could be fun!
Haha so interesting, I'm learning clockmaking myself. It's super weird that your escape wheel rotates the opposite way a normal escapement would run, but that makes sense given how it gives impulse to the pallet fork in besiege. Super cool that you managed to get all of this to work!
Holy shit you are so underrated I’ve been binge watching your videos and you have earned a new subscriber. Keep putting out good content because I have been loving this channel Hope you blow up soon
I just tried making my own mechanical clock and it took me a good few hours of banging my head against the table but I managed to do it. Thanks to my new experience I can now truly appreciate the effort you put in to your videos, well done mate you got a new subscriber
Mate... you made me buy this game... and I am NOT disappointed! Thanks for showing me this game, I made a mechanic car today with an engine & diff and man... it’s awesome. Ty
And here i am, being smug about my twin-rotor chinook-like helicopter, that can carpet bomb the levels and has an automatic stabiliser to put the heli upright after i let go of the controls. Dang your dedication.
I'm blown away. You literally just made an actual mechanical clock in a video game. For anyone who is still confused about how a mechanical clock works: - Weight or mainspring pushes the clock forward. - Escapement and pendulum stop the clock from spinning out of control, by releasing it in incremental ticks. - Some of the force from the weight or mainspring that drives the clock also goes back through the escapement into the pendulum, allowing it to continue swinging without slowing and stopping.
Yo! i found your channel today and i am really interested in your work and ideas. I love the way you go about making your videos and how you drive the story of building your creations. I was wondering if you could try to build a giant version of a car or something, with all the moving parts. (doesnt have to have the steering wheel or engine actually power anything, it'd just be really interesting to see a car with a barebones skeleton. really love the content keep it up!
This is flipping amazing :D I am a huge fan of horology and gears, so this particular video was just right up my alley. It's a shame Besiege doesn't have belts so you could make the weight more realistic. But just amazing :D
That would have been amazing. I might have been able to mess with some linkages to get a longer drop distance but stacking overdrives worked well enough.
As a watch enthusiast, apart from the hands being a little wrong(second hand is longest and narrow and at the top, hour hand is in the middle and is short and fat, and minutes hand is long and on the bottom), this is amazing. Kinda makes me wanna expirement with making a tiny watch of my own. Oh, Reid, if ya see this, have you considered making a tourbillion. It's a device in watches, originally pocket watches, that separates the escapement so it isn't affected negatively by gravity in any direction.
imagine it's the year 1654, you are a well respected king and you are just about to siege a large castle and you ask your engineers to build a devistating siege engine. And they build a fucking clock
Build your own gears with swords???! Jeez I can't say I would've ever thought of that. Given, I'm not amazing at working with Beseige mechanics, but I'm so glad that you've finally been sicced on the game. I'm never dissapointed with the new things you come up with.

The gear reduction is actually rather complicated, and very specific.
