    Knowing the correct distance to stand from the golf ball when you set up is a fundamental part of your address position. Use the golf tips in this video to review how far - or how close - to stand from your golf ball with every one of your golf clubs, from the driver and fairway woods to the irons and wedges.
    Because each club in your bag features a club shaft that is of a different length there is not one correct distance from the ball that you can use for every one of your golf shots. For example, we can’t say you should stand three feet away from the ball every time. Rather, what we can do instead is find a trick to confirm that you are indeed standing at the correct distance from the ball, no matter the club you are using.
    To find out if you are standing too close or too far from the ball, simply address the ball in your setup position and let the club grip drop towards your leading leg (left leg for a right-handed golfer). If the end of the grip lands around two inches above your knee cap then you can be confident that you are standing at the correct distance from your golf ball.
    If the grip of your club touches your thighs too high (more than 2 inches above your knee) then you know you are probably standing too close to the ball. Standing too close to the golf ball will result in hitting the ball towards the heel of the clubface, which will produce on occasion dreaded shanks that shoot the ball way right of the target. Reposition your feet and perform the distance check again until the grip lands on the correct part of your leg.
    If the grip of your club misses your leg entirely or would strike it below your knee cap then you know that you are standing too far from the ball. This position would require your arms to extend too far forward at address and will likely result in back issues and poor strikes at the golf ball. Oftentimes you will produce shots that hit the toe end of your clubface, resulting in poor shot distances that go to the right.

    This single tip has completely transformed my golf swing. It has solved so many other ‘problems’ I thought I had. Thank you so much, I now have clean contact, heaps of compression and a full, easy follow through. Brilliant stuff, and sooo simple.

      yeah this has also solved a lot of problems I was having too. Before I was standing way too close to the ball and was having terrible contact including hitting hosel rockets to the right quite often. Now I am hitting the ball more consistently in the middle of the club face. It feels a little odd, like I am standing too far away, but that's because I have been standing far too close for far too long. Thanks!

    Surely it depends where the ball is laterally. I.e. off the left toe or middle of the stance. Or do you measure whilst your feet are together and then separate your feet into the address position?

    EXCELLENT instructions! As with your other videos you keep it concise, simple, and clearly explain the process WITH some examples of how NOT to do it. Which helps me a lot to know and understand the exact correct position to be in. One question tho, in the video at roughly 1:28 when you show the head on view, you have the club handle "pressed" forward quite a bit towards your lead/left leg...in YOUR set up to the ball, do you use that much forward "press/lean" when you set up? Thank you for your time and consideration for answering my question!!

    • @Golfdistillery
      @Golfdistillery  2 роки тому

      The video below covers your question well but essentially the end of the club should point towards your left hip for most shots.

Thanks to my short game ive been able to put together low 80s not knowing which way the ball was going to go each swing to swing. Well. You my friend, thank you. I was standing about three inches too far away, and if i swung in to out id almost miss the ball. My body was naturally coming over to compensate. Shot my first round under 75 today in about 3 years.

    I line the club up to the ball in the sweet spot, then get close enough that with a squared face the handle drops into my pubic region just below the belt line, with any club in slight flexed knee position. However my method is for those who swing with side bend, as it promotes a more upright stance which means standing closer is necessary.
    So it really matters whether you side bend or not… this video is targeted towards those who don’t utilize side bend. If you side bend and do this videos method… you are going to toe slice your long irons/woods/driver.

    Is it normal to feel tension in the back of the knees when taking this position for a prolonged amount of time? It makes the back of my knees feel as if they're holding up most of my body weight when I lean over, even when I'm flexing them.

    • @Golfdistillery

      For chipping (and even for pitching) you may want to lower your hands on the grip (gripping down), so no, you would be closer to the ball for those shots.

    Thank you very much for this and all your helpful videos.
    When measuring do you put your club in the center of your stance or do you adjust the location 1/2" forward for each club length longer than a pitching wedge, as shown in a previous video?
    I hope this and other instruction on your site is going to help me make consistent contact with the ball. I have been playing golf for 30 years and still have a tendency to top the ball with most every club except when the ball is teed up. Also, my club often does not hit the ground.
    I'm going to hit balls this afternoon, following these instructions - thank you!

    • @CharlieBerry51
      @CharlieBerry51 Рік тому

      I watched and studied this lesson and practiced at a driving range.
      I was able to hit the ball more regularly - great!
      However, I found that placing the tip of the club a few inches above my front kneecap did not work at all. But when I adjusted height to about 5" above my knee cap I got the results I reported.
      I'm 6'2" with a 29" and a longer than regular torso so the standard measurement doesn't work for me.
      Another plus about this video is I have a better understanding to flex my knees rather than bend them and go into a crunch. I had to lean my torso over a bit more over the ball. There is great information and demonstration in this video (and site), keeping in mind adjustments may be necessary for individual bodies.
      I plan to practice what I'm learning to incorporate it into my play.
      Thanks!

    I am a novice golfer. I notice when you find the correct distance for your driver, only the heel is touching the ground. Is this something you would correct by shortening your grip or have an expert adjust the lie angle. Maybe just move the ball back or forward in your stance or change your stance to open or closed? This is a very complicated sport.

    • @Golfdistillery
      @Golfdistillery  2 роки тому

      It is possible that this tip doesn't apply perfectly to everybody and for every club they use. Ideally, you would certainly want to see the clubhead flat on the ground, with the heel and toe mostly level. Yes, a lie adjustment could possibly help. Thanks for watching and for your comment.

    • @OrvinReyes
      @OrvinReyes Рік тому

      Well, as you just said, it's relative. Shorter irons you need to be def closer. I think Jon Rahm sets up very close, but it's because of his heavy rotation style. This video is standard/neutral, where everybody should be as a starting point.
