Great video Steve, big respect for the amount of tech you have invested in and the vast knowledge. I’ve never seen you struggle to diagnose anything yet. Listening to the customer statement, that the engine ran normally when hot coupled with the build of carbon I’d say the valves are heavily carbonised so they are not able to seat fully until the engine warms up. That’s where I’d start.. cheers
Hey, Steve! Nice to see you again! I bet the headgasket is the culprit but we'll see in part two! Cheers!
Nice Steve. It's been to long. Keep them coming. When you said hard to start, and two cylinders next door to each other with lower compression my first thought is head gasket. It does sound bad cranking.Pressure pulse in the coolant.
I’m looking forwards to watch part two! Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
Love the way you explain things very clear! Another great video thanks
Great to see your videos again mate 👍🏻 . Hoping you get the go ahead so you can do the part two 😄 . Could be very interesting . Well done Steve good video 😛
Yet another great video from legendary mr Scott , looking forward to part 2 . Thanks for sharing
It’s not missing mate, it was there the whole time lol great job
Last one of these diesel Astra’s I done similar to this had blown a chunk out of the head between 2 cylinders.
Most likely scenario 👍
I agree, I only do Vauxhall’s and have seen the same a few times before but only on Astra J like this one.
Great to see you back, superb video as always. Pt2 would be great if you get authority.
Keep well Sir👍
Awesome..cant wait till i get my 4425a...
Simple diagnosis I got 61 plate astra 1.7 cdti my is hard starting lil misfire on tick over and the dieasel seams to go down faster black smoke from exhaust and it vibrates at low rms if ur in a higher gear
Hey Steve. good to see you again man.
Great video Steve! Just a quick question though, if it were the timing that’s out, how come it stops misfiring when the engine is warm? I’ve always assumed timing out means it misfires all the time.
Great question, when cold, any "misfire" or running fault due to engine wear, build up, loss of compression etc will be magnified. More than likely the "misfire" doesn't disappear but is less pronounced.
Nice one Steve. Fingers crossed for P2
thanks for sharing steve
Thanks for sharing Steve... Cheers.
Cracking video cheers steve 😎
Good to see you back Steve cheers sandy
I have been working on alot of European cars what training would you recommend to become proficient in European diagnostics??
What was the outcome on this one thanks
Steve I'm thinking cam lobes,or timing, what kind of tablet are you using
It's the Surface Go that comes with the Opus IVS kit 👍 this will make a good case study if the customer decides to proceed, car has just been bought "needing an injector" .
i was thinking when you said carbon intake the intake valves dont fully shut with carbon in between valve. Its what popped in my head .. as soon as you said carbon-ed intake.
hi, can you recommend a mobile mechanic in South Yorkshire, have a Renault Trafic 1.9dci non starter,
Hello mate been a while hope you well all the best from sunny south east coast
just a quick one . will a stuck intake make it look like the 2 cylinders that are stuck look 180 degrees out in the relative compression peaks ie the peaks will be at about the same time. as the piston trys to compress the air in crank case
Maybe mate, we've not got a lack of compression, we've got two high cylinders. Next step would be a sync to determine a full rotation. I'd quite like to get into this job if customer decides to go ahead, it's just been bought "just needs an injector"
@@SimplyDiagnostics i want you to get the job . love know if its wot im thinking it is
well if it`s a diesel jumping timing would of contacted the piston because of the reduce clearance compare to a gas engine, did you check the radiator to see if there is any bobbles if you pressurize the cylinder
Z19DTH only breaks rockers most of the time mate....had it happen to a few people I know.
Head gasket blows across two cylinders on them engines
What about pressure pulse testing the exhaust aswell
I did exhaust and intake, no anomalies worth showing on camera.
Hello why didn't you do in cylinder transducer pressure testing
Because in cyl is intrusive, we keep it simple to gather evidence in order to warrant intrusive testing 👍
@@SimplyDiagnostics Thanks make sense yes you said it in the video, no intrusive testing
🖖🏼👍🏼😊🏍🏍🍺
How can it be a timing issue when it is only effecting 2 cylinders on a single bank 4 banger?
Not making any assumptions, that's a great question 👍 if we look at the current flow there is not the typical sawtooth pattern ie the compression never really drops, it raises a lot of questions as to what is happening and what do we do as a logical next step 👍
Watched this again. Can't wrap my head around it...
