Can't believe you're gone. I played World Party so much, especially the Private Revolution album. I took this cassette with me, along with only a handful of other albums, to basic training in the Canadian Reserves. One week, we were out in the fields, literally in the wilderness, and at night, I'd listen to Private Revolution on my walkman and just contemplate life, and where it was going to go. You'll always hold a special place for me. Rest in peace Karl 😢
Today is Jan 13th 2025 and i said to myself "lemme play some World Party. Its been a while." I am just numb now after reading the comments. Such a sad aching now.
I could listen to Private Revolution till the end of time. This with yoga got me through a bout with breast cancer 12 years ago. It never fails to deliver. The lyrics to all of the songs still resonate and hold up in 2020. Karl where are you? We need you now more than ever! You could make us dance thru armageddon.
Beautiful comment, Linda. Every time I listen to Karl and the boys, I think: What a shame they weren't given their due. Such massive talent. And I also think: Where are you? We can use you!
Absolutely. He is superb. I discovered World Party by hearing one song in alternative radio around 1987 or so. I knew from just a few minutes it was quality music.
What I like about this song is that it doesn’t sound like an 80s song; if I were to listen to it without knowing the name of the song, band, or the album, I wouldn’t be able to say when it was released. I like songs like that!
That is exactly what happened to me!!! It was on a 80s playlist I pulled up at work and I wondered why it was there. It just didn’t sound 80s to me but had me mesmerized and I had to find out who and when. It has become of those great songs of all time for me!!!!
yup. I heard this track and band for first time on NZ's Radio NZ at 930 pm tonight while driving. I was initially thinking was a Jagger solo from some obscure project... but knew it wasn't! All Music did the rest of the research! Cheers
@@rockitss When you consider he's as good as anyone from the Beatles or Stones, Prince etc but hardly anyone today knows his name is kinda undervalued if you ask me. He is held in high regard by those who know, but he is now known well outside those circles.
I may have already commented, but World Party's music brings back so many wonderful memories. I bought the greatest hits CD recently and listened to it while I was cooking in the kitchen. Songs brought tears to my eyes. What an amazing artist Karl Wallinger was. Incredibly talented and he gave us music that will last forever. Rest In Peace, Karl. Thank you for making me smile and cry at the same time.
Goodbye Jumbo, Ship of Fools and Private Revolution were constantly on our ramshackle ‘music system’ in my early 1990s student house. Visits to friends’ houses, drunken late-night walks, afternoons spent on canal banks instead of attending lectures, all to the music of this remarkable musician and his unique singing voice.
I played the cassette I purchased of this album so much I think the tape broke. Such a fantastic, overlooked album in spite of the success of "Ship of Fools". This song gives me goosebumps in and of itself, and also making me think of college in northeast Ohio in the summer of 1987.
One of my favorite songs! I didnt have MTV in the 80s but saw many of these bands live in Detroit. So seeing the "retro" videos is cool. OMG. I'm retro!
I always loved this song and band, Playing this while cooking breakfast for my 16 year old daughter, thinking about my grown children and all of the crazy things going on, I have no job as of Monday, I have never not worked in my life, my 401 K is pretty much done. I have my health and my family, it will be ok Hang in there people its going to be a wild ride.
@@luciaelliott2310 I am doing fine but I am still out of work but I have a good chance of getting back to the company I worked for some years ago. My 401 K came roaring back. It certainly has been a crazy ride. Take care
World Party has accompanied me since the eighties, especially on my vacations around the world. Timeless great music, thank you Karl and rest in peace.
Saw him SXSW at Iron Works BBQ in Austin in 97. About a hundred people crammed into back room including Woody Harrelson. Played all of Eqyptology. Magic.
Greatest stanza ever: Got to find the brightness in the soul Not look outside to find out where we are Oh, you won't be satisfied Until you make possessions of the stars
Karl needs to make it all come true this time. We need him now. I have burned out all of my CDs. He has helped me get thru this last year. Want him to know that he is so relevant and timeless.
This always makes me cry....memories of their concert in Tottenham Court Road just after the album came out. An image of the world projected on the screen behind dying. I sobbed my heart out. I found myself stood aside Karl as the support band played and was too shy to say hello. Damn it!! PS. Now I just read that Karl has passed. Absolutely gutted. Wishing you a swift and smooth journey to yiur next chapter, Karl. Condolences to his family, friends, colleagues abd fans.🙏😔

It was only by pure chance that I came upon this song. It was used over the ending credits of some show on PBS. God only knows how I figured out who it was by as it was pre-Google, but I did and I was ecstatic. Still am…
This guy is on the periphery, when he should be at dead-center. Vastly underrated. But that's understandable, because there's a lot of idiots out there who have no clue what music is about.
I always dreamed about a girl named Christine when I would listen to this. That was in 1990, I was 17. Today, I immediately think about her everytime I hear this song.
I was a senior in high school and starting college in 1986-87 and bought Private Revolution album; played it to death. All Come True, Ship of Fools, and Hawaiian Island World with Sinead O'Connor are my favorite tracks.

Way back when, my sister and I called this the "Church song." Every Sunday I'd put this song on as we left the house and it would take exactly the length of the song to get to our church.
I guess I'm blessed to have seen them twice live: first time was The Ritz (the midtown one) NYC in 1990 or so, Goodbye Jumbo tour, Jellyfish opening, and then I somehow managed to see them do a "reunion" show after all those years in Riverhead, LI NY, at the Suffolk Theater, about five years ago now. Totally unexpected that they would be playing again, let alone in my neck of the woods. I made a day and evening of it, and it was so worth it. The show was great, theater was great, and I managed to snag an autographed World Party box set afterwards! Plus I had a front row single table seat right up front. It was highly surreal seeing them again, firstly, and secondly right up front at that gorgeous restored old theater.
Out of literally millions of songs over the years I have spent buying and listening to wide range of music this is one of the ones I can relate to the most
