@@toxicgracie3772 No, he can be stopped by beings other than Wounds in the Force. The idea that he can only be defeated by other Wounds was never stated in the games or in any associated media. Meetra was more of a direct counter to Nihilus, and was powerful enough with Visas to actually kill him. There are plenty of characters who can beat Nihilus that aren't Wounds. Anakin, Dooku, Palpatine, Krayt, Caedus, Kyle Katarn, and Luke to name a few. His Force Drain isn't some unbeatable trump card, but it is unique. The best ways to get around it are to either be a Wound yourself (in the case of Meetra) or be more powerful. You can also find a defense against Force Drain on the level of Nihilus' like Anakin and Dooku did. There just wasn't anybody more powerful than Nihilus at the time because the KOTOR era Sith are generally weaker than some of their predecessors (namely the Ancient Sith like Naga Sadow, who the director of KOTOR 2 outright stated was more powerful than Nihilus) and their successors (the Rule of Two). The Sith Triumvirate, Revan, and Malak are the exception to the rule for their era. Even then Revan and Malak are the only two who are considered all-time hall-of-famers as far as power and skill goes.
The reason only a wound in the force could do it is because the secret of how to shield yourself from force drain or cut of someone from the force was lost when Exar Kun destroyed Ossus otherwise the average jedi master or Knight would have ratioed Nihilus.Nihilus is so overrated because most people are casual fans and don't know the lore.Most are simply too lazy to read the novels,comics or simply play the games.
Naga Sadow wasnt more powerful than the rule of two sith,Darth Bane is stated to have surpassed all the ancient dark lords.The main reason they seem more powerful is because the Dark side was stronger in bygone eras.If any rule of two sith time traveled to the Naga Sadow era,they would wipe the floor with everyone simply because there was more dark side energy in the Galaxy.That is why rule of two sith have lacked the talent for sith sorcery.

But now that I remember, didn't Visas cut her tie with the Force whilst Nihilus was trying to drain her? And that weakened Nihilus? Or am I remembering that boss battle wrong? Because that would also be an option, albeit a last resort one. And also, how easy is it to even cut the force off??? I can't imagine that's something one could do willy nilly. Not even sure how Visas did it but I haven't played KOTOR 2 in a while
What has always made Nihilus scary was never his strength. It's always been his endless hunger that even after his death continues to haunt the galaxy.
Who's to say that he wouldn't have eventually learned how to feed off ambient force energy, if Nihilus had continued to exist? There's some speculation that he just didn't know how to do it, not that he *couldn't* do it at all. It's also entirely possible that was part of what his former apprentice/servant VM was holding back, was the knowledge of how to feed off of ambient force energy.
i feel for him to learn that, he would need a pull to the light, as the ambient force would need a more delicate touch to get, one that the dark side can never give

I just see Darth Nihilus as the lord of hunger and as the most scariest Sith Lord in all of the Sith that came before and after. Mainly because he’s more ghostly. He’s one of the reasons why I’m scared of the dark. Because when I was younger, I saw videos and pictures of him on UA-cam

Wow! Very well argued. I enjoy Darth Nihilus as a villain however this video has made me see him in a different light. For a future video could you do one like this on other Sith? Vitiate I believe has been extremely exaggerated (I want to stress that he is a force to be reckoned with however allot of his feats were accomplished with rituals and sacrifices, not his own power). Not true. He is powerful even without force drain, the strongest of the Sith Triumvirate in fact. Even with a full party Meetra barely managed to pull off a win. Only managing a victory by exploiting Visas's force bond with him. Dude was massively weakened yet still held off two Jedi and Canderous simultaneously, as opposed to Sion and Kreia, who both went down to the Exile 1v1.
Nihilius still had red force lighting besides the powerful force drain. He had other abilities.
@@animusora this is like saying galactus isn’t powerful because he’s always hungry. You don’t need to practice any skills when the planet the Jedi’s are walking on starts being eating. He also has telepathy and red lightning… oh no he can’t use a lightsaber like Vader can… but he can literally eat him alive.
I always saw Nihilus as being strong, but with one insanely strong ability. But barring his life draining capabilities, he doesn’t stack up to the other greatest force wielders in history.

Question: Which Jedi are actually able to resist Nihilus' Force Drain? Meetra Surik specifically was immune because of her shared nature as a Wound in the Force.
I was under the impression that the more powerful the Jedi, the more beneficial they are to Nihilus as a meal. Are specific powerhouses like Yoda able to resist through raw strength in the Light Side? I've never seen anything that suggests this, but if you guys know, I'd love to see this explored in a video.

Nihilus is the Wall. Impossible to beat unless you can crack or stip his horrific drain. He is still very dangerous unless you are a top ten or top twenty list tier Jedi or Sith. So powerful but far from ALL powerful.

An he doesn't need to be all powerful. That WMD on a literal Galactic scale level Force Drain is ALL he really needs. There's no need to have extreme fighting ability when even the MOST LETHAL an powerful enemies ever in the Lore can't get anywhere near you an just approaching could be risking a relatively quick an easy death. @@K.J.Richard Yes Abeloth is more powerful than most, but what I want to understand is what would be the result if the embodiment of chaos in the Force came into contact with WHAT Nihilus is, a hungry wound in the force that drains life, if I'm understanding Nihilus correctly. Would Abeloth absorb them if she found she could, and what if any new effect or characteristics emerge in Abeloth? what effect it would have on the Force itself?
now that would be an interesting interaction, The Endless Hunger Nihilus, vs the ever young and knowledgeable Mother. if Abeloth wasnt prepared for Nihilus, he'd win, as he'd drain her dry and accumulate all the power she had (they are both wounds to the Force itself, so it would be a very epic battle)
Yeah the ship is a massive feet, it would be something he'd have to sustain constantly so imagine his power if he wasn't shackled to it in space. Being able to hold something like that together perpetually, passively, and also fight at the level he did is insanity. Especially him being the only reason the ship had a dam hyper drive. Also yeah let's add stasis, plague, and cutting people off from the Force on top of that.
Red lightning is the realm of the dark god of Mordis and a few other Sith here and there. Saying Palpatine learned to match it with normal lightning is feat, for sure, but him lacking it meant his connection to the dark side was weaker. This is to be expected because Palpatine is not a literal wound in The Force but just a corporeal being.
Oh so some depictions show Nihilus using the technique Starkiller is famous for, that's cool. Since it's lightning that is under the control of the user, it could branch out and arc towards the enemy mid clash to damage them directly.
If his mask is comparable in power, as a cursed object, to a tool of one of the ancient Sith. The ancient Sith who Traya compares Sith of that time to children when measured against the old masters. If Nihilus' influence after his death is like one of those ancient Sith, that proves his power.
A planet being turned into a bunch of smaller rocks and dust or one big lifeless rock. Those aren't that different. Unless the worlds could recover from nothing naturally.
No Valcorean had to use a ritual but he did not have the same cost and it was a worse result so he was stronger. This doesn't really mean Nihilus was weak at all, just that there are few stronger than him. For valcorean it was just a spell, to Nihilus it was a curse that was part of him and that he could not escape.
What defeated him was his student betraying him and using their bond against him.

Nihilus existed at the same time as Vitiate, but could not find him. Let this sink in. We were told in Kotor 2 that Nihilus can sense concentrations of force wielders from a great distance. Yet he can't sense Drommund Kaas and all the force wielders on it. Vititate and his Sith Empire were out there doing their thing, and Nihilus could not find him. Why? No bloody idea. But he should have been able to.

I loved this format that you took with this video. I would love to see this style further explored and expanded with several other fan favorites so Star Wars fans may understand that their favorite characters do certainly have flaws and weaknesses to their abilities, feats, and power.

Imo Nihilus can either be beaten by someone who is a wound just like him, or someone with the intelligence and capacity to find a way to counter his Drain(Vitiate, Anakin, Revan...)

Nihilus ultimately became a one trick pony and if he couldn't drain someone/something he was up the creek. I agree reinforcing his ship is impressive but I would argue this is just a reversed form of shatterpoint to a degree. Where as someone like Windu might use a shatterpoint to break down a foe, Nihilus found the shatterpoint and plugged the hole so to speak and reinforced it. Either that or an advanced battle mediation. Nihilus also had potent force lightning, though he was far from the most impressive with the ability. Sideous created literal wormholes in Legends with it and tore apart entire fleets. Where I say Nihilus became a one trick pony is because of his drain ability. Nihiulus is top of the list with regards to force drain. I don't count Vitiate's drain because he was assisted by a ritual to do what he did. Vitiate draining Nathema was still a highly impressive feat, but not native to him on its own. However like the video said he came to rely on it too much. For those familiar with UFC I liken it to Ronda Rousey who was also extremely overspecialized. If she could get her opponents on the ground she could usually get the win. However the first time she came up against someone like Holly Holm that could keep her at a distance she folded HARD because she had no backup plans and only generic moves to work with. For Nihilus he was the same way in that he grew to rely too much on his drain. His lightning could be countered by a force user decently proficient in tutaminis or redirecting abilities so that wasn't a guarantee. Saber skills wise, he was mid tier at best with the blade. Not complete trash with the blade, but certainly not an impressive duelist either, simply mid.

The only reason Metra Surik was able to win was because they were also a wound in the force. They didnt "resist"Nihilus's force drain, he couldnt use it on them. You can't drain the force from a wound in the force
Visas Marr holding back some of his power only made it easier for Metra Surik to beat him. No one else could have because no one else is a wound in the force

I think Kreia did this on purpose with both of her Sith apprentices; she intentionally built weaknesses into their training so as to be able to cast them aside when they were no longer useful to her goals. Nihilus's hunger was destined to consume him, and Sion's will was easily dominated by Kreia's whispers and deceits.

Abeloth is a lot more powerful than Nihilus, Luke Skywalker is the most powerful non-entity force wielder in Star Wars and Abeloth was said to be 12 TIMES his power.

Nihilus still remains my favourite Sith, I never really had any misconceptions about his powers, he's essentially a force Vampire, and while he had his vulnerabilities he remains the most terrifying sith in my opinion. Other Sith wanted power and to hold dominion over others, Under Sidious, though most suffered, many prospered as a result of the Empires influence, there was still a life for you to have in some capacity, which is a low bar, but consider the alternative. With Nihilus there would be no empire, no civilization, no army, no one, he wanted nothing more than to feed, He represented the end of life ITSELF, imagine what he could have become if his power and reach continued to grow, if he'd never been slain, if he'd been allowed to roam free, leaving dead worlds and maybe even stars in his wake.
You could argue that other sith represent a much greater threat at full power, luke, Anakin, Star killer, but I don't think we ever saw what Nihilus could be at the peak of his power, if it had any true limits beyond his capacity to feed, his mask and robes are still out there, it's entirely possible the wrong person could decide to try them on and he'd be free to consume all over again.

The principle of Nihilus' existence reminds me of Malek from LOK. Both powerful but ultimately nothing but slaves. Nalek to the circle and Nihilus to himself. I don't understand how either of them could have been truly defeated purely due to their natures... Nihilus is still out there, like a broken T'lann Imass. Let us hope no one puts him together again...

Nihilus is effectively a sith vampire-wraith which gives maximum horror factor, but if you throw enough garlic at him he'll melt. Tenebrae/Vitiate/Valkorion is above all a master manipulator, like Sidious, or Bane. Add to that his insane ability to cheat death multiple times and all the knowledge he had gathered over centuries makes him way more dangerous than Nihilus.
I think this was quite a fair assessment of nihilus like it’s really interseting to know that if he can’t feed he becomes weak n there fire can be defeated until now I thought only the mortis gods or Anakin or even valcorian (excuse the spelling ) would only be able to defeat him

Nihilus is my #2 favorite sith lord being beaten out by Maul with Vader as #3. But Nihilus is like Death from Supernatural. He is a titan but not because of ungodly power, although his power is tremendous, rather he is finite. He is the exception that proves the rule. He is an eventuality. When you face nihilus alone, you know death has come and there is no way to avoid his hold on your soul. He shows no mercy for he doesn't have any but he is not wrathful. He just is. A force of nature.
Everyone who decries Nihilus' lack of difficulty in KOTOR2 fails to realize that they designed him to be possible to defeat even if you only played the main quests. However, almost everyone enjoyed the game so much that they completed all side quests, gaining way more XP in the process, allowing them to optimize their characters. This inevitably resulted in your character being incredibly OP by the time you face Nihilus. Due to the limitations of game design at that time, Nihilus' power didn't scale with that of the player. But from a strictly lore standpoint, Nihilus was one of the baddest mofos in the history of Star Wars canon. Periodt
Finally, someone who understand, this Sith is the most overrated Sith lord of the EU. Darth Traya clearly said in KOTOR 2 that Nihilus despite being the most powerful Sith of the Triumvirate, never surpassed the ancient Sith lords who came before him. Which would place Revan, Exar Kun, Freedon Nadd and Naga Sadow above him.

Yeah SethTheProgrammer did a great video on ranking the main Sith Lords of the EU and with help from his friend Crisis who does most of the Star Wars research they explained this but to be fair while his combat power is very low that doesn’t mean he loses to all the sith above him cuz of his force drain if they can’t resist it they die and the level of threat his drain was said to be able to end the Republic by Mace Wendu if Anakin didn’t learn how to resist it, and ofc he would eventually drain all life and energy in the Galaxy if not stopped.

This honestly just re enforces the fact that Nihilus is my favorite Sith honestly. The dark side always takes a toll on the user in some way. And with his, it REALLY took from him. what fascinates me is the short time period he amassed such huge power, his reign lasted what, 5 years? and Kreia said that he was already on the verge to surpass the ancient sith lords in power and was reaching the point where no one could stop him. BTW, wasnt he also supposed to have red force lightning? only 1 of 3 sith to master it? his power scaling was crazy, and i wouldnt consider him a sith anyway since he didnt gave a crap about sith or jedi, but yeah his powerscaling was crazy, his robe and lightsabre were taken to a dark side nexus on korriban and burried there in a tomb, aswell as his holocron, yet his mask was lost, it was found on a smugglers ship then if im not wrong taken to tatooine where a sith accolyte named zane sensed it, she killed the smugglers took the mask and from there all traces are lost.
A small correction: the colour of Force Lightning doesn't determine its power. At least not in Legends.
You need to make a video on his counter part now: meetra Surik. What made her different from Darth Nihilus. Arguably as a wound herself. She could resist Nihilus's Force Drain. And its said she herself fed on the lifeforce of those she killed as she "reclaimed" her connection to the Force.

From what I can gather, this was for some reason, a deliberate plan on the part of Palpatine. I'm not at all sure why he "under trained" Maul, or why he didn't want to make the attempt to train him properly.
Perhaps his time was eaten up with "keeping up appearances" as the humble "Senator from Naboo," perhaps he even feared Maul. I don't know, for sure.

There are certain folk that are just the right answer for quasi omnipotent evil folk. Call it the force. Mace Windu vs Darth Sidius. Obi wan vs Grivious. It's like he's a hole in the force and she's a plug. Plus his apprentice hated and betrayed him, but that is Treyas fault for how she trained him. She trained him as a slave to her will. But she never really trained either Sith Lord, she mostly just experimented to get a result. She really took the Sith codes highest more to the extreme hoping to break the chains of the force on the whole ass galaxy, just for her own Agency.
Keep in mind that just because a planet does not explode or become a black hole does not mean that the planet is not “killed” if he can drain the whole planet then it has roughly the same end result as a strike from the Death Star…no life left.
i always veiwed him similarly to those anime characters that get a busted ass ability that just solos a ton of the verse but if you can counter that theyre basically useless, like if you gave a genin sasuke unlimited amaterasu without nerfing it, or any of those crappy isekais where its all the gifted power's doing and the mc is literally a blank slate going wherever the plot takes them.

For me, I feel like if I'm going to rank someone like Nihilus in terms of power, I need a better understanding on how one "resists" his Force Drain. While the Exile fended it off, she was, like him, a wound in the Force. So say he went up against someone like Sidious, with a tremendous amount of raw Force power, but lacking in properties like being a Wound, how much effort and for how long could they last before either beating Nihilus or failing to his Force Drain?
He was mostly a danger to jedi. If you were a super bad ass with a vibro blade and a good 🛡 shield you stood a chance.

I personally never thought Nihilus physically destroyed planets. I always knew he just drained all life on it...that being said, he's still ridiculously powerful and even if his abilities did vary in power.... After feeding I still think there are very few individuals who could contend with him but there are some. This video has not changed my opinion.
He's not that fucking powerful man, he's just capable of using his power to do some incredible things. Compared to Revan, he's nothing.

Nihilus might have flaws, but I like his design very much, and the fact that he no longer has a body but a mask and a cape pretty much reinforces my thoughts on him as Star Wars' Grim Reaper. He was basically walking death.

There’s a few Force Sensitives that should be able to resist him. Anakin/Vader was able to resist some from of drain.
Sidious in legends to my knowledge know basically every Dark Force ability and even created some. Anyone who could even resist Force Drain, is going to dog walk the sh!t outta Nihilus. Sidious, Caedus, Krayt, Plagueis and Revan are the most accomplished Sith/Dark Siders. They would steamroll Nihilus.
