@@neofulcrum5013 that’s way too far fetched. The only reasons Darth Scion and Nihlus were so powerful was due to the mass shadow generator. Starkiller on the other hand was just a young man. He was what 17 when he pulled that Destroyer down? Palpatine couldn’t do that because his training just barely started. Anakin wasn’t even a Jedi Knight yet at that age, and none of the Sith Triumvirate could accomplish that either.
True, the common fatal flaw of the jedi is their belief that they need to fight wars for the republic. That has always ensured their own downfall as war is philosophically the worst thing the jedi can commit to and often results in their fall to the darkside
@@shamrock141 That fact is that every war that lead to the downfall of the Jedi can be traced back to the first Jedi war, the great schism. the one that lead the first dark Jedi to Korriban
In the same vein that Nihilus is a punishment for the Jedis, Nihilus was also a representation of the ultimate destination of the Sith ideology as well. An ideology where it's code is to constantly purge the weak will ultimately grow so large that it will end up eating it's own tail, and as it does, it grows weaker and weaker, even if its physical being somehow grows bigger. KoTOR 2 is such a wonderful deconstruction of Star Wars because it manages to critique not only a single aspect of its themes but all the parts in it aswell. Fantastic game.
He, like Sion and Meetra, are embodiments of the nature of the dark side. Nihilus was the all consuming hunger for more. Sion, the pain and suffering. And Meetra, the dominating and corrupting nature of the dark side.

Nihilus is essentially the opposite side of the coin to The Exile. While Meetra Suriik cut herself off from the Force at the horror of Malachor 5, Nihilus stared into its heart, unable to turn away.
that sounds utterly terrifying and i can't help but feel bad for the guy, he had no control at all, he became a vessel for that unimaginable wound in the force. I don't think he ever had the intention to do the things he did.
I think this is why Nihilus is my favourite of the expanded universe sith. He was so interlinked with the darkside that he could no longer be considered much of a person anymore. Everything about his nature was otherworldly and distant.

The Old Republic’s was facing hundreds of different threats that could destroy several planets at the time, but the reason why Darth Sidious could destroy the Republic was because he destroyed it from within. One could argue that many Sith Lords were more powerful than Palpatine, but Darth Sidious was the most intelligent with both political ideas and force abilities.
Nihilus was always one of my favorite sith lords. He's just one of the coolest and most mysterious characters of all time. He's such an interesting character. I wish he had a live action adaptation though. That would be so freaking cool. I would love that so much. Maybe they could make a movie ABOUT Nihilus. Like they did with Han Solo. @@InfamousLegato I couldn’t agree more. The deconstruction of Star Wars and the force in general presented through KOTOR II is worth thorough examination.
The funny thing is, this guy was probably more in touch with the Dark Side than any other Sith. To the point where he was essentially the embodiment of it, quite literally a ghost formed out of it, and as a result developed a greater dependency on it than any other.
At work, we had a kid (about 9-12 give or take) who had a Padawan braid and we were psyching out. Then he asked us to guess who he was for Halloween. We assumed the usual culprits (Vader, Maul, etc). Then he said two words that made us holler through the roof in jubilation: “Darth Nihilus”. That boy is certainly brought up right (in Star Wars terms that is)!
To be fair, more people are familiar with the first KotOR, if not only the movies and TV shows. In other words, there are a lot of casual Star Wars fans, and some of them are too casual for their own good.
Vitiate needed rituals and tons of bloodshed to do those to top it off. Nihilus didn't. Still, DE Sidious could create multiple Force Storms that could devour fleets and ravage the surfaces of planets. He also teleported Luke by ripping a hole in the space-time continuum.
It is even more funny/terrifying once you realise G0-T0 directly says to you that outer rim planets are slowly becoming lifeless , besically revealing that Katarr wasn't the only place he ate .
You ever hear the tragedy of Darth Nihilus, the hungry? I thought not. Darth Nihilus was a DARK LORD of the Sith, he had such a knowledge on the DARK side of the force that he could harness the entire energy of a planet to sustain... His life. He became so powerful indeed that the only thing he was afraid of was starving, which, eventually, of course he did.
It wasn’t an easy fight. It took Surik, who was Revan’s top general and another wound in the force which is the one thing Nihilus was weak to, Nihilus’ own apprentice who had a force bond with him that she severed to weaken him, and mandalore the preserver who was a friend and partner of Revan, all fighting Nihilus at once to bring him down. So that means Nihilus was likely deflecting shots from a heavy blaster shot by a veteran Mandalorian while fighting two lightsaber wielders. Pretty impressive to hold your own against all of that.
yeah I've noticed this guy tends to aggrandize the "good" characters (aka empathetic ones) and downplay and even demonize "bad" characters (which includes Ki-Adi Mundi in his opinion, because he is emotionally detached, like idk, a JEDI IS SUPPOSED TO BE??) like Im sorry, but does this mean Ayla Secura, Mace Windu, Jango Fett, and others are all weak? - because they were certainly killed with less handicaps and planning than Nihilus was. Half the game frames him as your main baddie, with Sion popping in every now and then and Kreia being Kreia. Its just nonsense when he downplays characters he doesnt align with morally.

And, of course, the name Nihilus is derived from the Latin 'Nihilo', meaning 'nothing'. "Ex nihilo nihil fit" - "From nothing comes nothing". Perhaps not exactly true, but for the purposes of the character, certainly so.
Thought it was a play off of nihilism. The philosophical belief that all things are meaningless. Nihilus needs to eat but his hunger grew so no matter how much he ate, he would never be satisfied and would only grow hungrier. His eating is meaningless
@@FeedMeChaos1 nihilism itself comes from the latin root "nihil-". Both derive from nihil-, but for Nihilus I think translating "nihil-" as "void" is more accurate, and as "nothingness" as in "everything has the value of nothingness" for Nihilism.
Sith names are pretty on the nose. Darth Nihilus was a being of nothingness. Darth Sidious was quite insidious Darth Tyranus was on his way to become a tyrant Darth Vader was actually someones father
@@HappyBeezerStudios Vader isn’t referring to father, it refers to the word “invader”(That’s why Vader is pronounced Vay-der like in-vay-der rather than Vah-der like the Dutch word for father). Just like Darth Sidious it knocks off the “in” prefix. Darth Vader’s name was probably created initially as a jumbled up way of saying “Dark Invader” as he was first shown invading the Rebel ship in A New Hope clad in black armor. Unlike most other Sith titles Vader’s never had any real meaning behind it when it was created. I believe Sith titles come from the force itself to summarize the darkest aspect of the person, although I could be wrong, I thought I read it in a book once that Sidious got the name for Vader from searching the force, although maybe I’m misremembering things.
@@kaiserreichempireofohio834 Nah that is only one possible explanation and it's based on speculation. From Wikipedia: "According to Star Wars creator George Lucas, he experimented with various combinations of names for the character built upon the phrase "Dark Water". Then he "added lots of last names, Vaders and Wilsons and Smiths, and ... just came up with the combination of Darth and Vader". After the release of The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Lucas stated that the name Vader was based upon the German/Dutch-language homophone Vater or vader, meaning 'father', making the name representative of a "Dark Father".[7] Other words which may have inspired the name are "death" and "invader",[8] as well as the name of a high-school upperclassman of Lucas's, Gary Vader.[9][10] As no other character with the title "Darth" was introduced until the release of The Phantom Menace (1999),[u] some viewers interpreted it as the character's first name, in part because Obi-Wan Kenobi addresses him as "Darth" in the original film.[11][v] The moniker is bestowed upon Anakin in Revenge of the Sith (2005) upon his turn to the dark side of the Force."
Darth Nihilus has been my favorite Sith for years. Having his lore pieced together like this is really insightful, as it has been many many years sense I last finished KOTOR II, some of it I didn't even know or understand at the time! Although, it's sad to see that his own power made him weak in the end.
@@ashtonchane6126 The power of the dark side is what allowed Palpatine to conquer the entire galaxy, destroying a planet or two is literally insignificant
Darth Nihilus fell to Meetra Surik because the two of them were wounds in the force born from the destruction of Malachor V and she was effectively immune to his force drain ability. Once he couldn't drain the force from her he became vulnerable. Surik also had Visas Marr with her who was able to disrupt Nihilus' connection to the force through the bond she shared with him. Kreia knew that Surik would stop Nihilus and so she lured him to Telos IV to get revenge for his part in stripping her of the force and casting her out into her own exile. Kreia's ultimate goal was to create a new and substantially larger wound in the force at the Trayus Core on the remnants of the planet Malachor V that would have defeaned the entire galaxy to it and likely killed many people in the process. She came to the belief that the force had a will of its own and was in control of everyone's destinies, so she wanted to end it for good. Her plan ultimately failed as she also fell to Surik who afterwards reactivated the mass shadow generator to destroy Malachor V for good.

Maybe we should mail it to executives of Disney and tell them the possible financial benefits it could bring Because typically , they will only make a major project unless it brings big bucks to their pockets
I always think that Nhilius is just an aspect of the dark force like how dark force users being consumed by their anger, jealosy etc he consumes everything around him.His sole purpose is to consume everything.
1:59 I think the lore is that Revan picked less loyal troops for the first two fleets, picked the most loyal for his own, and wasn't delayed by anything. He showed up late on purpose. Making this an officer purge in preparation for the next phase of his plan.
Correct. Before that awful Revan book and the MMO came out, Revan never met any Sith Empire, he only saw signs of them and used brilliant strategy to create his own Sith Empire to prepare the galaxy for their arrival.
It would be hilarious if Sidious and Vader met him in a random sith planet and try to reason with him and just consume them 2 and act nothing happened. Nihilus : that's some tasty as burgers.
Makes you ponder the true meaning of "The Force shall free me". It's kind of sad that the main flaw of Force-users is their in-ability to live freely with the Force, something I believe would be the true "Balance" of the Force.
That was Nihilus's curse. "Through Victory, my chains are broken" as the video states, the power was consuming him not the other way around and therefore there was no Victory for him.

You know I’ve been thinking about the idea of Dave Faloni making a show or shows detailing the events of the Mandalorian wars the Jedi Civil War and the events of the Knights of the old republic games as well as the unreleased and ungreen lit knights of the old republic three although I feel like he would have to beg Bob Iger and Kathleen Kennedy to let him do it and I’m not just talking about doing it. I’m talking about keeping it as accurate to the source material as possible while altering a few things to fit with some new canon like for example Mitra Suric (I think that’s how you spell it) not destroying Malacore but doing something else to heal the wound in the force because Malacore still appears in rebles
Surprised you didn't mention how he literally had to abandon his physical body because it was being consumed. He was basically just his force presence contained in his robes and mask.
Especially since that's one of the main aspects of his character. No longer any face behind the mask, no longer any body beneath the robes. The man he once was had consumed himself. Now nothing more than just a hunger for the sake of hunger.
Darth Nihilus, one of the most powerful Sith to ever live, and one of the most overhyped bosses in the history of video games. I was ready for a really difficult fight but then I barely took any damage.
The curse of bad gameplay design and having too many companions. Could have been worse though; was still a great play for a game that got a surprise rush-out deadline of a year (instead of the originally planned 3 or so, iirc)
You're missing the entire point of WHAT Darth Nihilus even is. He wasn't even a person during the events of KOTOR 2. No face hidden behind that mask, no body beneath those robes. Just a hungry void, just like what the Exile had the potential to become. And so when one void tried to feed on another, there was nothing to feed on. He starved, and ceased to exist. The mask and robes fell to the ground, and Darth Nihilus was gone forever.
what i take from all the talks and the game itself was that, while he is a powerful sith, his greatest feats were never his own, it was the wound itself. nihilus was a nobody and got that power simply for being in the wrong place. once the wound was healed, he was back to being that nobody. but who knows maybe that fight against him was the result of being rushed for a deadline lmao
Wait… so, could you _kill_ the Force using a Death Star or Starkiller Base? Because, if one planet was a wound, destroying an entire sector would do unimaginable harm to the Force. I think killing the Force is possible, which in turn makes killing the universe possible.
Thank you for re-igniting my love of Star Wars. Been listening/watching your channel a lot this past week. And I finally feel the need to go play through KOTOR 1 and 2 finally. I know it’s been more than 10 years. But I see only pros, no cons, since I’ve forgotten most of what happens aside the major spoilers. Thank you for what you all do. It’s awesome!
When Darth Sidious is refereed to as "The most powerful Sith lord ever" - I am starting to think either we are also counting in his political machinations which allowed him to become the Senate Emperor of the Galaxy (Darth Bane Sith lineage tactic was more sabotage and infiltrate than frontal assault after all), or there is some slight Sith ego hyperbole involved in that statement. I wonder if Darth Sidious was chucked backwards in time to the era of this kinda planet eating Sithery going on: How would be rank among the other Sith lords on a purely raw combat level basis? I am sure knowing how murderous Sidous really deep down is he would have loved to go up against ancient Sith lords toe to toe...after learning all their tricks.
There's no hyperbole here. He was capable of doing things like using battle meditation on a galatic scale, muddying the perceptions of the the entire Jedi Order, using telepathy to potentially wipe the minds of millions+, directly impart Force power to his underlings, and perfecting Malgus' Force Maelstrom technique into full on Force Storms, capable of consuming entire fleets of ships and tearing the crust off of planets
Sidious is the greatest Sith lord of all time. He was the pinacle of the rule of two era sith. With that said should he come up against Nihilus he'd loose against him. Simple reason that only someone like the Exile can kill Nihilus and only because she's a wound in the force. Nihilus is a one trick guy. If he cannot force drain you. The rest of his abilities are average. So should Sidious know a way to defend against Nihilus's extremely OP force drain, he'd be able to cut him into pieces or disintegrate him with his force lightning. But this is a big if, and I'm more inclined to believe he can't as he is not a wound in the force therefore he cannot weaken Nihilus and defend against him at the same time.
I still remember back in high school I play this game in the first time I heard Darth Nihilus speak. It was so eerie and strange. I really liked his character and the aspect of the power that he wielded. Especially the fact that he was able to hold together entire ship's. It always was impressive that he had the ability to do that.
I was just listening to his theme, the horror version made by Samuel Kim, this is perfect timing. Also can you do a video about Scourge sometime perhaps.
When you think about it, Nihilus and Galactus would work quite well together, after all, Nihilus is only interested in the living things on the planet, whereas Galactus only wants the planet itself.
Calling him weak is Def one of the weirdest opinions I've heard but still respected. The knowledge is what I came for and you're really on top of that. Much appreciated.
What I find terrifying about Nihilus the most, even though he is a slave to his hunger, is that he isn’t really a man anymore. Sure what Meetra said is that he was only a man, but uh, she’s literally blind. And Nihilus died a long time ago. He binded his spirit to the mask and robes. But this also leads into most ironic part about this all. Nihilus did not care for the Jedi obviously. He only saw them as a food source. But the same really was of the Sith too. He was an antithesis of the Force itself. But what makes this even more ironic is that, since his spirit is imbued in it, he’s technically achieved a form of immortality. But all he is is a hunger, a black hole. He has no desire, no ambitions. He is simply just hunger.
Heck yes to the entire video. There was just one missed detail that I would like to add. :) You mentioned that when he didn't find anything to feed on, he fed on himself (unwillingly), and the detail I want to add to that is that the result of that feel-on-self is that eventually he didn't even have a physical body anymore, as his body had been unable to sustain itself and practically crumbled away as the wound fed on himself. Hence, he bound his soul and spirit to his mask, and used the immense dark side powers to contain a somewhat corporeal form, ish. This is why, when he is defeated in the game, there is no body, it's just a cloud of dark side energy that dissipates. He doesn't have a body anymore. He's more of a dark side "spirit" of a sort. :)
When visas severed the connection between her and nihilus he became "untethered" Which he then proceeded to feed on Meetra surik who was also a force wound, a hole In the force. a hole which contained nothing so it was basically like him eating a vacuum. it weakened him severely which ultimately lead to his down fall
Man, did I even PLAY KOTOR2??? This was the backstory of the game the whole time??? Like I thought I understood the gist before but this video has suddenly helped me understand the actual events and chronology regarding Malichor V, the mass shadow generator, Kataar and Meetra Surik's origin. 8:38 cuts to art of the Exile squad doing the "slow walk" like they invented it, and I'm here dying because they'd NEVER get along well enough to pose for such a badass pic together.
The point of Sidious is that he actually came into power by politics and hiding in plain sight, though driven by craving power he could also keep his wits together Sion and Nihilus craved power in vain, loosing more and more of their senses they were defeated by the power they sought I'd go for Palpatine hands down

"According to Star Wars creator George Lucas, he experimented with various combinations of names for the character built upon the phrase "Dark Water". After the release of The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Lucas stated that the name Vader was based upon the German/Dutch-language homophone Vater or vader, meaning 'father', making the name representative of a "Dark Father".[7] Other words which may have inspired the name are "death" and "invader",[8] as well as the name of a high-school upperclassman of Lucas's, Gary Vader.[9][10]
As no other character with the title "Darth" was introduced until the release of The Phantom Menace (1999),[u] some viewers interpreted it as the character's first name, in part because Obi-Wan Kenobi addresses him as "Darth" in the original film.[11][v] The moniker is bestowed upon Anakin in Revenge of the Sith (2005) upon his turn to the dark side of the Force."

@@stargatecommand714 But could he use his powers to make cookies? After all: If the Dark side has cookies, you are compelled to join.
@@vadfarkas14 Something tells me Sidious would have a fun time going against someone he can go all out on. Cackling like a madman all the way~
Palpatine: *builds 2 death stars*
Nihilus: "That's cute"
I still remember back in high school I play this game in the first time I heard Darth Nihilus speak. It was so eerie and strange. I really liked his character and the aspect of the power that he wielded. Especially the fact that he was able to hold together entire ship's. It always was impressive that he had the ability to do that.
This is officially my favorite Star Wars UA-cam Video
THE PERSON WHO DREW THE PICTURE SHOWN AT 0:44 WAS MY BROTHER!! THANKS SO MUCH FOR USING THIS PIC
"Strength? Do not mistake such hunger as a strength. It is ultimately a weakness, for if he does not feed, he will die."
I was just listening to his theme, the horror version made by Samuel Kim, this is perfect timing. Also can you do a video about Scourge sometime perhaps.
Oh, you actually check on his vids too. Nice.
@@michaelandreipalon359 who DOESN'T check his vids?! He's a legend! His Star Wars music is AMAZING!
@@darthknightwingphoenix2081 this is true, his revan original theme is one of my favorites.
Thank you thank you I know I’m awesome.
Have you ever heard the tragedy of Darth plague us the wise?
Watching this 2 years later and STILL nobody can convince me that Nihilus isn’t the most badass Sith Lord ever!
0:04 i still remember listening to that description while playing the game. truly awe inspiring. really puts his power into perspective there.
i have three things to say:
1. darth nihilus tall AF
2. this is me when i hunger for food
3. anyone else getting Galactus vibes?
I'm getting Unicron vibes
Galactus:IM THE DEVOURER OF WORLDS
Darth nihilus:hold my beer
Go play fn.
When you think about it, Nihilus and Galactus would work quite well together, after all, Nihilus is only interested in the living things on the planet, whereas Galactus only wants the planet itself.
That intro just invoked a boatload of nostalgia. 😭
"Mmm, I'm hungry, we should go for some planets." -Darth Nihilus
Calling him weak is Def one of the weirdest opinions I've heard but still respected. The knowledge is what I came for and you're really on top of that. Much appreciated.
Great stuff, keep it up man! You're the reason I'm the star wars fan I am today!
That's awesome! Glad that we could inspire you!
Darth Nihilus, Revan, Bane, and Vader are arguably the coolest looking Sith Lords
*coughs in Darth Talon*
@CT-2307 lmao, fair point
Hey, what about Bane and Vader?
@@michaelandreipalon359 Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me.
Vader: “I am your Father”
Sidious: “I am the Senate”
God: “I am the Force”
Nihilus has always been my favorite Sith, I've always found its powers and origin fascinating.
"Now I am become death, the destroyer of worlds." This quote embodies what Nilius became.
Well written mate. The very embodiment of hunger sounds pretty terrifying!
You nailed it! He is A BLACK HOLE. Just a quick look at his mask and you'll know immediately what he is. Without his mask and robe, he is a void.
Heck yes to the entire video. There was just one missed detail that I would like to add. :)
You mentioned that when he didn't find anything to feed on, he fed on himself (unwillingly), and the detail I want to add to that is that the result of that feel-on-self is that eventually he didn't even have a physical body anymore, as his body had been unable to sustain itself and practically crumbled away as the wound fed on himself.
When visas severed the connection between her and nihilus he became "untethered"
Which he then proceeded to feed on Meetra surik who was also a force wound, a hole In the force. a hole which contained nothing so it was basically like him eating a vacuum. it weakened him severely which ultimately lead to his down fall
I've completed the game 3 times and I never actually got it until now.
8:38 cuts to art of the Exile squad doing the "slow walk" like they invented it, and I'm here dying because they'd NEVER get along well enough to pose for such a badass pic together.
OH MY GOD! that intro! That's unlocked some core memories, man battlefront was amazing.
The point of Sidious is that he actually came into power by politics and hiding in plain sight, though driven by craving power he could also keep his wits together
Sion and Nihilus craved power in vain, loosing more and more of their senses they were defeated by the power they sought
I'd go for Palpatine hands down
His mask is awesome.
Agreed!
In my opinion Darth Nihilus was the most powerful Sith ever. He is my favorite character❤
his power made him weak, he had no control over it and it controlled him, he was merely a slave to his own hunger. they frame him as the "big baddie" as a diversion from the actual big baddie. kreia, who manipulated all these events to achieve revenge against the force its self in an attempt to purge the galaxy from how she views the tyranny of the force's will.
nihilus was a force of nature as she puts it but also weak, a walking corpse that devours everything around it until it eventually consumes all life and eventually starves and dies. again, he is a slave to his own hunger and lacks any real control over himself or his power. the power of his hunger is great and terrible but it is not his own power
Except from when he wants to start up the kitchen...
KOTOR 2 has some of the best symbolism in the whole Star Wars canon. Nihilus' self-destruction, Meetra being his opposite in the Force, and the coming together of Sith, Jedi, and Mandalorians to defeat him - it's all the best stuff from the other stories put together in a new epic way.
I love how THE SPOILER of KOTOR2 wasn't revealed in this very in depth video. So much respect
Ouch that is a burn on Palpatine, but it is accurate.
"Palpatine? Never heard of her."
-- what Darth Nihilus probably said
I would SO love to see Palpatine get put in his place and see what "the true power of the Dark Side" is like by Nihilus!
Nihilus isn't the dark side of the Force, he is the lack of the Force.
My Dude, DE Sidious Would Take On, Valkorian, Nihilus, Kryat, Rynx, Revan, Using 40% Of His Power, He Litterally Destroyed An Entire Galaxy In Dark Empire, And Took All The Jedi That Lived In His Time To Defeat Him, Quit Underestimating Sidious And Learn Your Shit Before You Make Stupid Comments.
