Especially since the Empire would have a much easier time claiming that the attack on the Death Star was done in cold blood. In the original canon timeline, even many Imperial loyalists saw the destruction of the Death Star as a retaliation for Alderaan. In this timeline, however, the Rebel attack was blatantly pre-emptive as the station hadn't been publicly used against a populated planet yet.

I always thought that the Death Star's super-laser was way overkill for what would be practical for a mobile battle station. The laser only needs to be powerful enough to destroy heavily shielded capital ships and overpower planetary shields in a siege role, not destroy a planet outright. Destroying whole planets is a waste; Instead you can glass the planet to rid it of unwanted enemies and/or troublesome wildlife, and then either strip mine or build your own base there. A less powerful super laser would cost less resources to build, so you could either make multiple stations with these lasers or use the resources you saved for other purposes.

    • @VestedUTuber
      @VestedUTuber Місяць тому +32

      Two things:
      1. The Death Star was never meant to be practical, it was meant to be a weapon of terror, and a deterrent against uprisings via the threat of use against a rebelling planet. Technically, it didn't even have to be used, although a wide-broadcast of its use on an uninhabited planet as a public demonstration would still be needed to solidify its role as a deterrent.
      2. Star Wars actually has threats that warrant the use of a true planet buster. The ones that come to mind are worlds overrun by Mnggal-Mnggal, worlds overrun by Giant Amorphous Bantha Breakfast Biscuits (when the blue sauce isn't available, and yes that is a thing), planet-sized Abominors and Vong Worldships. These are all Legends content but I believe the Mnggal-Mnggal might have been ported to canon.
If you wanted a practical application of the Death Star's technology, the _Conqueror_ class Star Destroyer would be a good example. It's far less powerful, only capable of cracking a planet's crust or destroying a small moon, but it gets the job done and works well as a long-range artillery ship to boot when fired in lower power modes.

In hindsight, the DeathStar is a money pit to hide the funds to construct the hidden fleet of Star Destroyers with their own superlasers in Exagol. Also Palpatine already built the DarkSaber which is probably the initial prototype for the Exagol superlasers. With the DeathStar_II had always been a trapped. So instead of a small exhaust port, there's a big gaping hole towards the core of the spacestation. All that extra missing part for the DeathStar_II, the funds for it was used to build the Exagol star destroyers and super star destroyer fleet including the Eclipse class ships.

@@beansworth5694 I wouldn't say that lack of political savvyness is unrealistic. Fascists are not known to act in a reasonable ways.
The Empire is a pretty good representation of fascist regimes when you think about it, especially with the corruption at the highest levels, and the obsession with designing "Wunderwaffen" that are actually more a liability than true assets.
They like to project an image of efficiency, but in fact they are completely inept and only owes their successes to the institutions that survived their takeover. They shot themselves in the foot (fortunately) by destroying technological development that they deemed as "jewish science".
One of the main reason as to why it is difficult to determine the responsibility for the Holocaust, is that Hitler gave his orders mostly verbally.
And those orders tended to contradict themselves. So when two generals or ministers would recieve contradicting orders, they would fight and have to go back to him so he would solve their problem. Typical narcissist behavior, but a terribly inefficient way to administrate a country.

One correction - the Death Star isn't large enough to cause more than very minute tidal effects, even considering its significantly higher density compared to a natural satelite of the same size. Remember, the DS-1 Battlestation is around 160km across at its largest possible size (some works list it to be as big as 900km but those sources are considered unreliable). This would put it around the size of Uranus's moon Puck. Most moons around this size, in fact, aren't even massive enough to hold a spherical form, and thus wouldn't have enough gravity to cause more than a millimeter or so of tidal differences if the object were in low orbit. The Death Star most likely would only cause about an inch or two of increased tides on a world's oceans at similar distances. At much greater orbital distances, the effects would be negligible.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Death Star's massive gravitational pull was caused not by its mass but by the casual contragravity Star Wars throws around like candy. It's possible, mainly because we don't know how things like artificial gravity and repulsors work in star wars other than "they use some sort of exotic matter they take from inside the event horizon of a black hole", and that bit of lore is from _Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Incredible Cross-Sections_ so it's legends content. We don't know how far artificial gravity fields or repulsor fields extend beyond the craft or anything like that. It has been observed that artificial gravity fields do "replace" the natural gravity field of an object within their area of influence, though - the Millennium Falcon has often been depicted as flying inverted in atmosphere without any change in the gravitational direction within the ship itself, even though inertial effects still apply.

    • @maltheopia

@@VestedUTuber In the Battle of Yavin, Gold Leader gets shot while above the surface of the Death Star and ends up crashing onto it as if the craft was falling. This strongly implies that the Death Star's gravitational field extends well past where you would expect the Death Star's equipment and personnel to move. While ships like the Millennium Falcon probably do use localized artificial gravity fields, either the Death Star gets its artificial gravity from a uniform field that extends a good deal outside of the station--or the designers of the Death Star are wasteful AF and decide that the thousands of exterior turrets need their own repulsor field for... reasons.
Which I wouldn't be surprised for the latter. As mentioned, Star Wars throws around artificial gravity and anti-gravity like candy.

Plus I think we can all agree that this is probably one of the most interesting/unique scenarios in SW…but it’s a welcome one. Also if Vader did stop Tarkin from destroying Alderaan…then it would definitely be an interesting opportunity to show another side of his character and make it even more interesting. It was also nice to see Vader standing up to Tarkin getting shown some love, since while he usually never gets the chance to have an opportunity like this so he would like to still show that he’s still a powerful individual and it was a nice change of pace to see him take the initiative and definitely made us all impressed. Plus it was nice to see that part of Anakin still remained in Vader and stay true to himself and wanting to do what was right…afterall it was nice to see him have a solid plan and have Vader have enough of Tarkin’s BS, afterall this was probably the smartest and coolest course of action he could take, so it was nice to see him come up with this plan to shift the power balance of the galaxy, since he knows that there’s still opportunity and hope in the galaxy. Also it’s always nice to see just how determined Vader truly is and how he’s staying true to himself…also this was definitely something Vader would do. Also Vader is still an unstoppable badass. It’s also always nice to see one of the best characters in SW getting shown the love and respect they deserve. Great job as always and I can’t wait to see what you do next.
I do have a few ideas for some possible what if’s:
    1) What if Rey was a Mandalorian…essentially what if Din Djarin found Rey and took her in as a Foundling.
    2) What if Ezra was a Mandalorian…something like how both his parents were Mandalorians who left Mandalore and went to start their own lives (you could still keep most of Ezra’s backstory) and potentially make Ezra and Sabine a couple (since Disney won’t, we have too…#ezrabine4ever.
    3) What if Jango Fett and/or Boba Fett Joined the Republic…I think something interesting could happen with this.
    4) What if Rey, Finn and Poe went back in time to the Clone Wars…this would make the World Between Worlds even more of an important focal point and I could also see them get along well with Anakin, Ashoka, Rex and the rest of the 501st (it would be fun to see Rey, Finn and Poe join the 501st)
I hope these are some amazing ideas for some potential What if’s

Realistically speaking, it would be extremely unlikely to succeed. The cloning capabilities of the Kaminoans could only create the GAR through the support of corporations like Kuat and Blastech and the funding of Plagueis and Palpatine, as well as the droid forces of the CIS purposefully being prevented from reaching their full potential to keep the war going on long enough to justify the coming of the Empire. Simply put, they would have too little to work with and too many enemies if they tried.

This was good but had Palpatine read Luke or Anakin it would've been good for Luke to learn the truth he killed his sister. Or more plausible Palpatine would've used Leia's death as a rallying cry for imperial pride how the noble princess had been brought aboard the station at he own becuze, the station that was just destroyed by insurgents as proof to the great house of alderean what Palpatine said was true

    • @kingwildcat6192000

Yeah ngl this what if kind of ignores everything in the original movie. Like seriously Obiwan and Luke don't try to save Leia one of the main acts in the movie and than Palp wouldn't use her death against the rebellion

    • @b-sha2744
      @b-sha2744 Місяць тому +2

yeah that kind of bugged me as well. It kinda just got forgotten about and only got brought up so Vader can suddenly swap sides, despite the fact he literally killed his own wife in the 3rd movie and continued to work for Palpatine despite not figuring out the whole "save someone from dying" force trick.
I feel like the minute the station got destroyed, Palpatine and the Empire would immediately go "hey the princess of Alderan was on our station for diplomatic reasons and the rebels are to blame for her death.
This would cause alot of people to side with the Empire over the Alliance due to the fact of them appearing as more terrorists than as Heroes, and it could have changed the outcome of the entire war
It's a good video regardless, I just think it's weird how certain parts were skipped over.
I can't comment on characters added in from the tv series that i've not watched, so I wont question if there were any other moffs more suited than the one from Mando. Or why certain characters would be leading the attack on the death star over say any other Rebel leader
Also kind of funny that this is probably one of the few theories i've listened to where Han isn't part of the story. Which makes sense, he got paid to take them to Alderan, so he either went back to pay money to Jabba, or he's a slab of carbonite

@b-sha2744 The Princess had gone missing long before the first Death Star was destroyed, and the Death Star did not leave Alderaan space. Alderaan had made it public that the Princess was missing, if the Empire had suddenly stated that she was on the Death Star for any reason it would have been clear that she had been kidnapped by the Empire and held against her will.

The first hint of Vader NOT being purely evil and having some good in him was in Shadows of the Empire (novel between 2nd and 3rd movie) when Prince Xixor spied on the scene from Empire Strikes Back where Vader told Palpatine that Luke would join them or die. Xixor was a master at reading body language and detecting emotions in voice and he noticed a slight hesitation and lack of conviction in Vader's assurance that he would die if not joining them. He knew then and there that Vader had no intention of killing his son. It was great voice acting on the part of James Earl Jones since I noticed that myself when seeing the movie.
I think the true first sign of Vader not being purely evil was that he HESITATED for several seconds when Princess Leah was begging him to be merciful and not let Alderaan be destroyed. I think he WANTED to spare that planet and felt trapped because Grand Moff Tarkin, who actually outranked Vader I believe, was angrily glaring at Vader as if daring him to make him lose face by contradicting his order. I think Vader felt trapped because had he done so Tarkin would have reported that act to Palpatine and the emperor would have seen him as a liability and likely would have tortured him to death. When Vader backed up Tarkin and said "Alderaan will be destroyed" there was a slight bit of regret in his tone, like he was not happy about it.

Tarkin tries to maintain a poker face, but fails, turns away. I...see your point... Lord Vader. Of course, you are correct. Tarkin straightens, gathers himself, strides back to Leia. Well Princess, it appears you owe Lord Vader your life. And the lives of all on your world. Guards take her away. After she is gone. I said nothing of sparing her life. Bet Vader never thought killing Leia would come back to haunt him, I genuinely think if Luke hadn't given him a chance there he would have just grabbed his lightsaber and ended himself right there. Really feel bad for Bail and Breha tho, finding out their daughter was dead probably destroyed them.
As fun as it is the many ways Sidious can die, sometimes a good old Duel of the Fates is what is really needed.
All in all, a pretty interesting scenario where the Empire wins but it's not completely a terrible thing, specially since the Sith end up dying out and ironically the Jedi actually got the chance to truly return, great story.
What if Anakin was the one captured by the Trandoshans instead of Ashoka, and in their attempts to survive and escape he and O-mer accidentally developed a master-student bond that couldn't be undone and neither was the one he has with Ashoka? I'm curious how Anakin would do if he had to care for two padawans simultaneously instead of just one.
