The BEST gift I ever gave myself is the habit and discipline of doing the dishes and the kitchen before bed. The very same that Kallie has suggested. I can’t even talk myself out of NOT doing it now. 😂

One thing that helps me a ton, is watching someone do the task I've been putting off. So for instance if I need to do the dishes but I can't seem to peel myself off the couch, I will literally watch a youtube video of someone cleaning their kitchen/doing the dishes and it somehow gets me off the couch to get the task done. Just a small tip for anyone having some trouble :)

Forced myself to fold laundry 🧺 while my kids napped, it was the last thing I wanted to do but I knew I would actually be able to REST tonight once they went to bed. I do little tasks throughout the day and by the end of the day(most days at least) I have very little to do except for the normal dishes/closing the kitchen up. Decluttering has been a huge help and just putting things back to where they go immediately!

I’m going to try and make a list of completed tasks at the end of the day for the days I felt like I “got nothing done”. And you know what, if all that’s on it is “I fed my kids, I loved my kids, they’re alive & safe” …. I’ll consider that a win.

I felt productive today: I got up, dressed, made up, drove to the city, went to doctor’s appointment, visited my daughter, went shopping, ate lunch, pressed 3 blazers, 3 tops, one dress, and cooked dinner.
I feel pretty good about myself!

I MUST start walking 30 minutes a day every day for a health issue that has gotten out of control. That and adjust my diet, etc., etc. But, I don’t want to walk, and we live in Oregon where it will be raining daily for months, I don’t want to walk in the rain. Too bad! I have to. I walked tonight and it felt good and I was proud of myself for making myself do it. Now, only 65 more days and it will be a habit! Thank you Kallie, you video couldn’t have come at a better time! ❤

Thank you for being real about this! I've been super overwhelmed lately and I'm trying desperately to get back to the small wins to keep me motivated. Today I had to work so I chose to delegate a few of the small wins out to other people in my house. If it helps me to walk into a little more peace and a little less train wreck, I'm definitely all for it. I am a list maker as you are, and so really breaking things down makes things feel a lot less crazy. 😉

Sometimes I have a day where I’m busy all the time but I’m doing lots of little tasks. At the end of the day I think “I don’t have much to show for my work.” But it’s a lot of little tasks that have been long neglected. I take stock and realize it’s all worthwhile! Thx again!

It has made such a difference in my life & in my home! The 1st was the kitchen / doing dishes before bedtime. That worked so well that my hubby will sometimes tell me that he'll do the dishes because i fixed a super meal! (Usually it was only when I happen be sick or such)
I now have my evening & my morning routines that I do everyday - if I don't my day is completely off kilter!😯🤯

Thing I started doing was actually due to work from home and since my office now fully remote, this habit as continued to help me. It is hard to separate "work" from "home" on a good day, but when its a fully remote job it feels impossible. What helps me is to use my "home tasks" to force my butt up and out of my office chair. Not only does it help from sitting to long and gets steps in on my fitbit, it completes a few small wins around the house. Obviously I can't be away from my computer too long during the work day, but 5 - 10 minute tasks are quick enough. Every morning I make a list of 3-4 items while my coffee brews. This sticky note is separate from my work computer (in the kitchen by the coffee pot) so when I pass it during the day I remember the small things I wanted to do. The items are simple, make the bed, put away the mail, swap the laundry loads, etc. Nothing too big which then leaves bigger tasks for the weekend where I have more brain space to do them.

    1. Your nuanced approach to productivity is refreshing. You've managed to dissect a complex topic into digestible insights.
    2. The sponsorship with BetterHelp is seamlessly integrated into the video's theme of mental well-being and productivity.
    3. The visual aids and analogies you used, like the boulder on top of a hill, made the concept of task initiation so much easier to grasp.
    Consider This
    1. If you're struggling with productivity, consider using time management apps that can help you prioritize tasks and set reminders.
    2. If you're into smart home technology, voice-activated assistants like Alexa can help you set reminders, make to-do lists, and even control smart appliances to make your life more efficient.
    3. For those who find it hard to initiate tasks, consider the "two-minute rule." If a task takes less than two minutes, do it immediately. This can help you overcome the initial inertia.

You always end your video by saying, "Be kind to yourself and others." I found I'm more likely to be kind to others and then, be angry with myself. Today, I was kind to ME and I got 2 tasks done that I had put off for a very long time. Just keep your slogan going, we'll get the point eventually. And thanks for your videos and pictures of your little ones.
Just a reminder: If you are very busy with your little ones, but you need to send a get well card to a sick friend, text the friend a picture of your kids doing something cute. I have found it's the BEST get well card in the world and -- it's free!

Now I'm depressed, since I physically cannot do enough to stay caught up in a day let alone feel productive. Discipline does no good when you just can't and your goal that day is unload dishwasher and you know it's so little. It doesn't make you feel good, either metally or physically. There are no funds to hire someone to help either. I guess the answer is to never get old and physically incapable.

Great video! Thank you for taking the time to explain this. If you have the time to answer, could you give more examples of how someone implement this into their day? In my case, I am a home schooling mom who struggles with disciplines in cleaning and tidying my home. Thankfully I have developed the habit of loading the dishwasher every day (kids unload), making my bed, and washing and drying a load or 2 of laundry everyday (put away clothes every couple of days). I'm lost as to how to start small with things like sweeping the floors, cleaning the counters, cleaning the bathrooms, etc. What would you suggest? And how many small disciplines should I implement at a time? Thanks!

My "one thing" is going to be to make the coffee as soon as I wake up (or when I get back from taking the kids to the bus stop). I'm not going to wait 2-3 hours after I wake up anymore. Other than the kids' bus, coffee is first priority. I know it sounds silly, but I'm more likely to stick to it than if I say that I'm going to do the dishes every morning. But... if I'm already in the kitchen, I'm more likely to empty the dishwasher, toss trash, wipe down the counters, fix breakfast... and if I don't do any chores in the kitchen... well... that wasn't my "one task" (yet) was it? LOL But I definitely have more of a likelihood of cleaning if I'm already standing up.

Hi Kallie! I'm curious how you decide which habits to cultivate and if you've ever stopped a habit that you thought was good when you started but ultimately decided the benefit wasn't worth time cost. I (and I suspect many others) try to start good and worthwhile habits and WOULD have the discipline to keep them up, but in a moment of weakness convince myself it's not actually worthwhile. And I fear I'm doomed to repeat this unless an objective system can help figure that out.

I’ve given up on cleaning. I want a beautiful clean house, but I get overwhelmed with it all. Plus I’m on disability. 🥺

Don't give up! I, too, struggle with getting things done. I have strength and mobility issues that prevent me from accomplishing everything I'd like to, but I try to just take one day at a time and be thankful for the one or two small things that I did get done. It's frustrating to have to wait for someone to come help, but giving up won't make things any better. At least if I continue to try my best, I have the satisfaction of doing something myself...no matter how small. I may have 3 things on my list to do, and get only one of those partly finished, but I try to maintain a positive outlook and be happy for what I accomplished. It's not always easy, but it's more helpful than just giving up! Sorry for whatever you are dealing with.

ah... so if you always have to stop and rest between most tasks, it makes sense that it'd be harder? Because you can't take advantage of that momentum.

I get upset and stressed because I clean my house and doesn't last. I have a 1 year old daughter, 3 dogs, cat, and bearded dragon. I'm a first time mom too. My family and husband says to rehome my pets but I don't want to do that I had them since they were babies and plus all the money I spent on my pets .

Don’t rehome your pets! This season of craziness will eventually get better, though it will take awhile. Give yourself a break. Being a mom of a little person is demanding. Can you choose just one task a day, like changing the beds. Then another day clean the main bathroom, or at least part of it. I set a timer for 5 minutes & am always amazed at how much I can get done. “Done now is better than perfect later!” Can you toss something in the crockpot early in the day so that dinner time (“arsenic hour”) isn’t crazy? And ask for help! I think that as women we sometimes expect people we live with to read our minds; I know I have done that at times. What seems obvious to us doesn’t necessarily appear that way to other folks (re: things we think ought to be done or done a certain way). Hang in there, & be nice to yourself!

There are definitely parts of life where the best you can do is bare minimum. It's so hard to be okay with it, but I have been forced to do so before and I learned....like really slowly. When they make rude suggestions like that - maybe suggest they help with the cleaning instead of you having to deal with the heartache of rehoming your beloved pets.

Love this, but that's not what cognitive dissonance is. Cognitive dissonance is when your beliefs don't line up with your actions. It's more along the lines of like, saying that you care about x, y, z cause and then actively voting for people who work against those causes. Or saying that you hate germs but then never cleaning. It's not about breaking promises to yourself, but not being able to see how you are part of the thing that you say is the problem.

Thank you for saying the word correctly…people have decided it is about a ‘product’ like a can of tuna..l was a Legal beagle for a very very long time. When a word is mispronounced and it’s picked up by even news and other organizations I just holler at the iPad. Stop it stop it stop it Jesus Christ please stop it thank you. So say thank you for saying it correctly. You just made my sad little Monday a little bit better better.
