Sir Isaac Newton proposed his First Law of Motion, the law of inertia, in 1687: A body at rest tends to remain at rest. A body in motion tends to stay in motion. Bodies will continue in their current state, whether at rest or in motion, unless acted on by a greater outside force.

    1. A body in motion stays in motion. Force yourself to move; the momentum will keep you going.
    2. Visualize the end result & how good you will feel after you complete the task.
    3. Make your task enjoyable, e.g. listen to music/audiobooks,
    4. Amp yourself up to the task by planning rewards.
    5. Brain dump. Write down everything on your mind that you want to get done this week, month etc to avoid feeling overwhelmed & know where to get started.
    6. Time yourself when you do tasks that you dread & procrastinate on. You will realize they don't take much time & will be more motivated to do them again.
    7. Take time to rest (but don't overdo it). Don't make rest your reward; take pride in your work instead & enjoy the sense of accomplishment.
    8. Illustrate progress. Check things off your to do list as you complete them.
    9. Stop multitasking; it actually slows your productivity & tires your brain quicker.
    10. Learn to hit reset.
You don't need to wait until tomorrow or next Monday. Do it now (First, acknowledge that you need to reset. Second, start fresh).

You are such an inspiration!!! THANK YOU!
Your posts are so full, but not too full, of succinct encouragement and tools to make life work .
The effect you have on me is the effect I want to have on others in my life and on my youtube channel.
Your courageously positive approach to the difficulties of life, that shut me down for decades, help me hope to get my life right before I turn back into dust. I am 63, I have 5 children and 7 grandchildren. I have yet to feel like I have made the contribution in life that would allow me to believe I lived well.
Your mother must be so proud of the person of inte-grit-y you choose to be each day.
You are beautiful inside and out and yet you do not post seductive pictures of you to grab views.
You dress with class and self respect. It shows you have confidence in your value as a person. You know that your youth, beauty, and body do not define your contribution in life. Your actions and wisdom do. You are a beautiful example of a confident woman of intelligence, wisdom, and grace

I often have the same problem. What has helped for me is to reframe why I really SHOULD do my hobby. I draw and play piano. But if I do these fun activities only because they are fun, then I feel guilty that I'm not getting my work done. On the other hand, if I do these fun activities because they will help my brain to stay young and sharp, then I can justify setting aside some time every day to enjoy them. I think if you find a real justification that you believe in and that motivates you, you'll be okay with spending time on your hobbies.

I just want you to know this made me cry a bit. I'm a first time mom, working full-time from home with my baby during COVID and I've struggled a lot and keep getting overwhelmed. I was about 4 or 5 months pregnant when the country first shut down and most people didn't even find out I was pregnant until we were already social distancing so I didn't get any of the help that I normally would've gotten from friends and family and have been pretty overwhelmed since before LO came. I appreciate you starting the video with telling us about only seeing the "highlights", it makes me feel better that others (even UA-cam personalities) struggle too and that there are things you can do to help get your life back on track.

I’m a disabled cancer survivor. What I mean is that chemo for leukemia left me with my nerves and my hands and feet fried. It’s called CIPN, which is chemo induced peripheral neuropathy. My hands and feet burn at a level 8 from 1-10 ten being the most pain..I’m like this 24/7 for almost 8 years now. If ANYTHING else is bothering me from being upset to period, to a cold is going on, it increases the already constant 8 pain higher. Now that being said, YOUR VIDEO INSPIRED ME…. AFTER watching this, I thought about what you said for days. Every time I was too tired or burning too much to get up, I thought about “A BODY IN MOTION STAYS IN MOTION “ and what you said. I actually ended up writing it on paper and posting it on my wall. (This Will be turned into a pretty beach wall art to match the theme of my house so I can keep it up and look nice.) THANK YOU!! I'm a huge list maker and brain dumper. When I'm feeling particularly unproductive I switch my list making to night time. I buy a new spiral notebook and open it up so I have a page on the left and a page on the right. At the end of the day, I write on the left side, everything that I got done that day. On the right, I make my to do list for the following day. This helps me go to bed feeling really accomplished and not worrying about what I need to do the next day because my list is already made. It's amazing how much we get done in a day even if we're not checking off our list items. When I feel under appreciated, I leave this out for my husband to see. It usually helps, lol. Great idea to time yourself doing tasks. I know I think about it way longer than it would take to get it done. Thanks for the great tips.

On my "to do" list, I now try to add some off the wall things with a timeline. I got the idea by celebrating my "birthday month"; each year I would try to accomplish something unique, like learning to say please and thank you in 20 different languages, or to plant a kitchen herb garden for the first time, or learn to jitterbug. Last year I dove into a much needed declutter (years in the making). Doing the declutter over a whole month gave me time to run to the dump or donation centers frequently, and gave me the time to consider difficult decisions. This week I decided to take advantage of free pears, pick them, prepare and research for canning, then get the task done.

How on EARTH are you recording this video with a few-week-old newborn?? When I had my sons, I was so severely exhausted from lack of sleep and nursing around the clock that I could barely finish a sentence. I would move from my bed to the couch to the fridge to the stove to the table to the sink to the couch to the bathroom to the washing machine to the couch to bed to the couch..... over and over and over again. For like 3-4 months. At least thats what I remember from that time. I certainly could NOT have recorded videos as well as you do with such a young one. So kudos to you girl 👏👏👏

Thank you Kelly for these tips. A tip I started a couple months ago... was instead of sitting down first thing in the morning and having coffee... I get up throw on some comfortable clothes and shoes & go around opening blinds starting dish water etc.
I usually spend 30 minutes in the morning on walking around my house doing small task... then I have my coffee so by this time I’m more awake... and it helps me have more energy through out my day... hope that made sense 😂
God knows I need it the older I get. I’d admire you as young as you are you have such a great outlook on life & how to keep yourself upbeat & beautiful. Great job Momma 🤗😊

I use the 30 30 plan to get a bunch done without burning out. Set timer 30 minutes for a task then 30 minutes for rest/tv or social media browsing the 30 for task and on and on. You get more done with the 30 minute deadline and enjoy the downtime more since it is also limited and you don't feel guilty.

"Brain Dump" is a great hack. Used a version of it a few months ago when my flights to get back home were messed with for a second time (I had two lay overs) and I didn't know if I could get back in the country or not (I'm in New Zealand). I listed everything that could go wrong. I saw there were only 4 or 5 situations that could've happened, and reminded myself that whatever happened was out of my control and people were there to help if needed. Great anxiety reliever!

One of my productivity hacks is to allow myself to do a task slowly. I use this tool a lot at the end of the day when I’m tired or just getting off work. My thought is that doing the dishes slowly (so it feels easier) is better than not doing it at all. And it’s a way to feel like I’m taking a break even though I’m not entirely stopping!

Thank you for this! I struggle with motivation due to ADHD because everything is overwhelming. I’ve taken a lot of your tips from several videos and I put them into action today! By 10am this morning I had drank 24oz of water, exercised, started a load of laundry, gotten 6 kids up, ready, and fed and we walked as a family for 30minutes. Typically, I would have gotten everyone up and fed and that’s it.

  • @stacey738

One thing that really helps me as a mom of a almost 3 year old is to just declare the day a write-off. Sometimes things go bad and you just don't get things done, maybe my daughter was up all night because she was sick, etc. On those days I give myself permission to not do the dishes or chores or anything. Just get through the day with everyone fed and healthy and that's good enough. By declaring a write-off day i lower my expectations of my productivity and just recognize that this is a bad day, and that is ok.
Its a bit like a reset except I recognize that I NEED the rest of the day for us all to take it easy, go easy on ourselves, and just cut everyone some slack.
This really helps when sleep deprived. Its very difficult to parent a child effectively while extremely sleep deprived, and getting sleep is so so important.

Sadly in an Apartment the trash involves me having to get in my car and driving to it. Great tips. Any good tips when deep depression is involved? I lost my daughter & granddaughter. Then my husband of 29 yrs. then my health. Breast cancer a 2nd time involving surgery or 2 or 4! And a random collapsed lung. I lost my house. Yes I have a great Therapist. I know I NEED positive motivation. This was 2012-2014. You’ve helped me in so many ways! Your humor and facial expressions crack me up! Writing them down makes a lot of sense and setting a timer (wow, I never would have thought about that). Also, learning how to do the task in an efficient way (like cleaning the bathroom starting at the top and working your way down to the bottom.). Well, you are motivated at work by a paycheck to be productive. Find what motivates you at home. Like Kallie says, visualize what it will look like after getting tasks done + think what it will feel like if you don’t. I would do that and then tell myself my judgemental mother-in-law might drop in unexpectedly. That thought was my motivation! Let that feeling of pride in your accomplishments become a goal so that a knock on the door isn’t going to ruin your day. Fill in the blank for yourself where I put “a knock on the door”.

I always love watching your tips and tricks. We are moving soon and I cannot wait to set up my home with these genius nuggets! One thing I will say though. I understand the brain doesn't want to multi-task.
However, I have CKD. Those of us in CKD refer to energy as "Spoons". How many energy spoons do I have today. Like you I listen to music 🎶 while I work. But I tend to sing not dance. I give myself a couple of songs in a room. Then I must sit down 15-20 mins. I set my alarm. When I get up...I go to a different room. Wash, rinse and repeat. Usually a room is done in one or two song sets. The room that was worse, now isn't as monumental as it was and I'm able to finish with it.
For me...This is my brains "spoons" hack. Now I feel accomplished, because even if I didn't finish everything in a room...Every room is cleaner and less likely to depress me for the messy...lol
And OMG precious baby's head of hair!
