When I get behind I no longer see it as me being a failure, I see it as it’s time for the rest of my family to step in and step up and start doing more because it’s not all my responsibility. We all live in this and no one here is immune to doing their part to keep the house running well. I think where we mommas need to do better is not trying to do it all and raise our expectations of the other members of our family and delegate more responsibility. Just because our partners may earn the sole income doesn’t make managing the entire house OUR job alone. Obviously very little ones can’t do a whole lot but each year our kids can do more and more to pitch in and our partners can certainly do more. In my house, no one sits on the couch to watch TV after dinner until the entire kitchen is clean. Period. Why should we being working into the late hours while the rest of the family relaxes and enjoys their evening? NOPE. We all live here, we ALL do our part.

This is why I don't clean up after dinner haha. I don't want to waste my evening that I could be spending with my family on cleaning. We bring the dishes from the table to the kitchen counter, and then we go sit down. I deal with the kitchen first thing in the morning after my husband leaves for work because I don't want to miss any time with him

I have serious chronic health issues, which means I have many days where it is impossible for me to take care of tasks. In July, my husband had a health crisis, then several weeks later our five grandchildren (and parents) came for a visit. I decided our goal is going to be to put items that need to be put in the attic/garage in a spare bedroom and close the door. We can deal with those items slowly, when we both are feeling much better! Our living areas in in good shape, and that is what is important!

My kiddos are a few years older than yours, so it’s getting a bit better. But, it is still a challenge and very much like you described.
One thing that I have found helpful is during quiet time (2 days a week they get an hour of screen time, the other 3 days it’s just a quiet activity in their room, no one naps any more) I set an alarm for myself. 35 minutes I do cleaning or whatever like a crazy woman, and then then last 25 minutes I put my feet up and do something relaxing. But I get so much done in 35 minutes because I’m not interrupted (usually 😉)

So lucky I ran into this video 1st thing this morning. Last night I crawled into bed an hour early because ringer paralyzed since I was feeling defeated, overwhelmed, lazy, & like a failure as a mom and spouse because there was so much to do. I’m super lucky though, because I didn’t have any compassion or kindness for myself, but my husband did. He gave me all of his since I couldn’t give it to myself. I know not everyone is lucky enough to have a life partner like that. I got up near midnight, stressed because of everything on my “to-do” list, & I found my husband had done dishes & cleaned up the kitchen. Waking up to a Clean kitchen & living room is the best, especially when it’s a surprise haha. This video & my husband’s support helped me give myself some grace & get some momentum back ☺️

This is very needed for me right now. I've been very ill recently with pneumonia and very bad asthma and it lasted for over a month. I ended up on steroids for it for 5 weeks my asthma was so bad. I'm back at work now but still really weak and to be perfectly honest work and sometimes cooking dinner is about all I can manage right now and as we need to pay the bills that's the priority. I have been my own worst enemy with self talk about how useless I am because the house is a mess but you're so right. If I had a friend who'd been as ill as me and had ended up in hospital twice like me and is just getting back to work and she was saying sorry about the mess I'd say what do you expect you've been really ill. You're going to work to keep the bills paid give yourself a break. Today I went to work I did such a good job cleaning up there that the manager thanked me (she never thanks anyone hardly ever). I've come back in a lot of pain though (I also have fibromyalgia) and completely worn out. I cooked dinner for my daughter and my husband and I, as my daughter isn't very well otherwise she would have cooked at least her own dinner. And then to be honest I've just sat and veged watching UA-cam ect. Your video popped up and it was exactly what I needed so thank you. I will get back on top of everything when I am stronger but I literally had asthma attacks so bad I could have died not long ago and still have pneumonia lingering so I'll give myself a break for now, then I'll tackle it a bit at a time.
Something I found helped when a task was so big it was daunting was, when I did our attic room that was literally trashed (we used it like a loft). I would go in and fill a toy box with random stuff off the floor or wherever, bring it out of the room put it on the bed and sort that one box. By doing that again and again I took it from a room so trashed we were risking avalanches to a spotless beautiful modern bedroom for my daughter. I then did the same again in the other attic bedroom which wasn't as bad but was still pretty messy.

Ikr!? My aha-moment was "treat yourself as you would treat your friend". I literally met my friend in a local coffee shop instead of her house last week. We were planning to meet up at her place, but she asked me to a coffee shop instead because her house was such a mess and she didn't have the energy to clean. Did I tell her that she's just a slob? Of course not! Did I think that she's just a slob? No, I absolutely didn't! I can totally understand her. She's not lazy or a slob, she's human! And that's what I told her when she called herself a lazy slob.
So why would I think of myself any worse than I think of her? I need to start being more compassionate to myself, and I think that my friend could use that mindset too! I have to send this video to her! 😃❤👍

I absolutely love your videos. I want to be a morning person so badly but I’m still struggling to get up. Once I’m up though, it’s easy peasy 😂 I implemented the clean sink before bed and it’s been life changing for my mornings as a mom with four kids to get up and out the door during the week!
I work from home so I literally get my weight lifting in throughout the day. I tried so hard to find a good chunk of time to do it. It one day just dawned on me that I didn’t have to set aside an hour four days a week to do it! I know it’s different for everyone but if you do work at home and love to exercise, see if you can break your workout up throughout the day

These videos have been super helpful with getting our house more organised, but accepting that there’s no such thing as perfection and that’s ok. We’re by no means “done” with sorting the house but we’ve just donated a load of things to charity and even encouraged our young girls to let go of toys, which is something they’ve struggled with before. Thanks for all the advice!

I’m going through this bout of emotional exhaustion, and whenever I have the chance to stay home and vegetate, I make a deal with myself, that every time I get up from the couch, I will do one thing only, whatever that is. I have watched my home getting gradually tidier in a matter of days, and I didn’t even feel the overwhelm of doing the work, because I would do a tiny small thing, and then my reward was that I would lie down and carry on watching tv. I know it’s not a lot, but it’s better than nothing.😊

I think it's so very true that we all should be nicer to ourselves. Give yourself grace and compassion. It is hard to take that first step but oh how great we feel when we do take it and get stuff done.

I'm having a very hard time making a list. It's basically "tidy this room, tidy that room, tidy another room" and the details of each will be different and not something I can know specifically until I get going. I just need to pick a space and get to work - I did my kids' room earlier this week, which included hanging shelves. I need to do a major fridge cleanout and kitchen organization and I've been putting it off all week, need to get to work on that today. I should have done that first (for making daily functioning easier) but I just couldn't face it, the kids' room was easier and more fun. No reason to beat myself up about it now - but it is time for me to get off youtube and get to work!
