Hey I appreciate everyone's support on this video. I was really trying to rush making this, and there's a lot I would have changed if I spent more time on it. When I started on it I naively thought it would just be a few minutes long and I could bust it out in one evening, but that quickly turned into 16 minutes long and three evenings of work. Most of the changes I would make are pretty inconsequential, like I would have cut a lot more of my pauses while speaking, or I probably wouldn't have put the entirety of teko's 2+ minute video in this, and instead found other clips to fill space. But even so, I'm happy *enough* with the editing considering how fast I made this. However there is one omission that I'm frankly embarrassed I left. Daze initially got the idea to go under the level from ChloeHartmann. Daze was the one who figured it out, and deserves all the credit anybody gives to him, but I really try to mention everyone I can to remind people that we are a community with many people, and it's never (or at least rarely) the work of one genius pushing us forward. Chloe is a really cool person and you should all give her a follow too: www.twitch.tv/chloehartmann
13:33 LOL. long live the post loot world order!!! Mwahaha Love the shoutout to the category extention document and leaderboards. Great vid. Ima defs do a run or 2 our 120% early loot.
Regardging category naming, I will stand by "The collection of wealth is more important to me than the freedom of some 30 dragons and their children%".
I'm not a speed runner, but I've recently started keeping up with this (I've loved Spyro since childhood), and you people are total maniacs. Wildly creative stuff.
I'm glad you brought up the 120% split thing, given the spirit of 120% is to collect everything. It would be completely stupid to trash it, a simple title of "True 120%" percent and "Loot Skip 120%" could keep everyone happy. There is no need to destroy the spirit of true 120% but there is no reason to ignore the new routes people can enjoy. I hate when speed running communities face this issue typically as everyone fights and argues about what to do ignoring the most basic thing to do when people disagree. Split categories. Everyone could win. If a category dies out while the other thrives then splitting only ensures that the one most people enjoy survives.
I think there are cases where a category split isn't warranted, but everybody seems to be on the same page in this case. I've actually been pleasantly surprised that there hasn't really been any serious arguing over this. The community response to this discovery has pretty much entirely been happy and chill.
This is great! I’ve been busy lately and haven’t had much time to really dive into the new skips so this is perfect! I also loved the ending section so much.
I have one more concrete idea in mind already I'd like to make a video on, and then some scattered topics I need to think about, and Scrabble is one of those topics
Awesome job editing this especially considering how quickly it was put together, all-around really engaging and entertaining and among the best speedrunning content I've ever seen on YT. I eagerly await the 13 minute shitpost of an in-depth psychological analysis of Flik someday.
I've been saying for years that I never want to take content creation too seriously, but then I go and do a thing like making a video essay? absolute clown move tbh
Ok but if you DID ever want to make more content that would be divine coz this is maybe the most engaged I've probably ever been in a spyro video and that's saying a lot
The absolute nerve of this channel having actual content. I come here for ReBoot and Monster House PBs. Not to descend into madness about voiding vortex.
There should be a category for rainbow Spyro%. In the demo on the crash warped title screen, (up up down down left right left right square) toasty is locked off, however the portal exists and we all know you can skip into it. If you do that, Spyro will go into the loading screen and it won't crash but it will run super slow and Spyros textures will slowly be replaced by randomly colored pixels. Please try this and upload it so I can see it again. Don't know if anyone knows about it but me.
It's not exactly the same, but there are other known ways to corrupt the textures of the game. This tas by wafflewizard shows one example of it at this timestamp ua-cam.com/video/QIisQjSykHg/v-deo.html
11:30 we had a similar connundrum in Pitfall The Lost Expedition after I found a way to collect more than the maximum collectables. Should skipping intended collectibles for those extras count for hundo? we ended up saying yes, and cementing the rules on the completion shown by the the savefile (+ other reasons that are game-specific)
That's really interesting! One hitch with this whole thing is that Spyro 3 already does have a way to dupe certain gems. It's been pretty widely accepted that if you miss a gem in one level, but dupe an extra later on to still get the correct final amount, that *is* allowed. It's also possible to dupe an infinite number of dragons in Spyro 1, and that is technically allowed in runs, but we don't do it because it's incredibly slow. Each duplicated dragon takes more than a minute to get. I feel like this collectable duplication concept isn't something I hear talked about a lot in max completion categories of games like this, but I always enjoy hearing about the ways that different communities decided to resolve the issue.
I'm not sure what the point of a "120%" run would be if it wasn't collecting everything. Always assumed 120% just meant getting everything not actually aiming for the %
In the sense that any% is the category where you try to see the credits as fast as you can, it could be said that 120% is the category where you try to see the bonus cutscene at the end as fast as you can. I think a genuinely good type of name for a new category with this would be "Second Ending%" or something like that.
A category split seems likely, as it's already happened for Crash 1 NST. In Crash 1, you get the secret ending by getting all the Gems, which the game checks for by using 20 Clear Gem Platforms in The Great Hall. In the PS1 version, you'd have access to one platform for every Clear Gem you had, so you technically only need the 20 Clear Gems to finish the path. However, this inherently requires the six Coloured Gems and the two Keys, and while the Green and Orange Gems have technically been made obsolete with glitches, they still contribute to your percentage and are thus still required in 100%. But the N. Sane Trilogy's Great Hall was overseen by a colourblind programmer at Vicarious Visions. You get one Clear Gem Platform for every Gem, regardless of its colour! This meant you could just get any 20 Gems and get the secret ending. The leaderboard now has separate categories for Secret Ending and All Gems, both of which end with this ending.
The category extensions spreadsheet has a category called Neo Vortex that does exactly that. It looks like the only two runs on it were done by AshRe_L and nuke_47, but I also know people don't always put their runs on there, so there may have been more.
We should get Daze to break Mario Kart 8, you said never doubt a speedrunner's ability to break a game, but that game is looking pretty solid. Daze'll find something in 2 days
Hot take: 120 percent is the genocidal plunder ending. Dragons in spyro have a monopoly on life, a monopoly Gnasty shattered. Unfortunately he underestimated the wunderkin that is Spyro.
I know this is an old video so the shitpost naming is probably defunct, but you could call it "Pennypincher Percent;" Spyro only cares about loot, it’s alliterative, and it’s silly without being *too* cumbersome.
If the game says 120% complete and your category is called 120% then you're done. I get it, and ultimately it'll be up to your community but I believe you guys are kidding yourself if you want to keep the current name 120% for the current route. I hope we don't end up with nonsensically named categories for the sake of tradition or nostalgia. Logically the current 120% category should be renamed "max%", or "all collectibles" and the new route is 120%.
I actually am on this side of things, but we'll have to see what decision the community comes to. If there's a vote, that's how I'm leaning. *Most* of the time when splits like this happen, the simpler name is kept for the version with no restrictions, and a new name is made for the legacy category.
Maybe just call it Inventory 120% and Everything 120%? Although, this video has been out for 6 months -- they've probably already decided on something XD
The bounty hasn't been paid out yet. If we make boneless consistent then it will probably go to Daze, but if someone can find some other consistent method before then, I think it's still open.
So I genuinely agree that the yelling didn't really work here, and if I wasn't trying to make this video as fast as I was, I would have tried to rework that section. It sounded funny when I was writing it, but I don't feel like I can really play angry like that without just sounding dumb. But more importantly, what audio balancing issues did you have? There weren't many audio sources in this, and I did make deliberate choices about how loud they should each be so that nothing overpowered anything else. This will probably just be a difference of opinion on how the audio should be balanced, but I'm curious if there's something that does actually sound really bad I somehow didn't notice.

Really good video toaster. Your narration skills are top tier

I think this was my second favorite behind making two categories and calling them both 120%
Hey I'm not just a default discord avatar, I'm also a default youtube avatar.
The man himself !
I'm not a speed runner, but I've recently started keeping up with this (I've loved Spyro since childhood), and you people are total maniacs. Wildly creative stuff.
Not one either. I just like seeing the crazy glitches.
Screw it, it's time for Spyro the Dragon 20%, where you ONLY get the gems in Gnasty's Loot
😂
i love the mentioning of true vortex, would really love to see you do a run of it with early loot
im pretty sure daze bagabones is just touval fucking around on an alt
absolutely adoring all the simpsons bits in this, great video mr. toaster!!!!!!!!

You can't tease a quality video like this and not do a Scrabble video.
Excellent work mr toast!
I have one more concrete idea in mind already I'd like to make a video on, and then some scattered topics I need to think about, and Scrabble is one of those topics
this video was a very fun watch
Awesome job editing this especially considering how quickly it was put together, all-around really engaging and entertaining and among the best speedrunning content I've ever seen on YT. I eagerly await the 13 minute shitpost of an in-depth psychological analysis of Flik someday.
Fun video, congrats (or condolences?) on becoming a video essayist
I've been saying for years that I never want to take content creation too seriously, but then I go and do a thing like making a video essay? absolute clown move tbh
Explained everything really great thank you this is awesome! Excited what this early loot will bring in future runs!
Ok but if you DID ever want to make more content that would be divine coz this is maybe the most engaged I've probably ever been in a spyro video and that's saying a lot
How have I just seen this? Brilliant video!
Excellent video! I should hang out on the category extensions spreadsheet more, too. Some day.
The absolute nerve of this channel having actual content. I come here for ReBoot and Monster House PBs. Not to descend into madness about voiding vortex.
I thank the YT algorithm for this. Quality content! 🎉
It’s hilarious that true vortex might actually be a possibility without getting 100%.
Nice!

Absolutely ludicrous beyond belief. Love it.
incredible video!

Amazing!
That was a great video
Is that Ape Escape BGM I hear?!
13:17 "mediocre Playstation games"
_grabs slipper_ "I will send you to Jesus!"
For not really making UA-cam videos like this, you're pretty darn good at it.
The game came out over 20 years ago and people are still figuring out ways to break it.
Impressive
CE Spreadsheet love yay ^_^
nice
In SRT's Vortex we go in loot, we just use a 120 file.
The category extensions spreadsheet has a category called Neo Vortex that does exactly that. It looks like the only two runs on it were done by AshRe_L and nuke_47, but I also know people don't always put their runs on there, so there may have been more.
“If you liked the video, don’t bother subscribing”
Too bad, I’m subbing!
Damn, I was hoping the category affected was Any% No IJ
We should get Daze to break Mario Kart 8, you said never doubt a speedrunner's ability to break a game, but that game is looking pretty solid. Daze'll find something in 2 days
Ah. Thats how my dad got out of being my parent. He found the skip.🎉
Hot take: 120 percent is the genocidal plunder ending. Dragons in spyro have a monopoly on life, a monopoly Gnasty shattered. Unfortunately he underestimated the wunderkin that is Spyro.
Very good content. I am very content.
I honestly can not believe ti has been found this is insane I think in the next months we will have a consistent coveless
My proposal for the names for the category split
Category 1- 120%
Category 2- All Gems
chad True completionist route vs virgin skip stuff route
I know this is an old video so the shitpost naming is probably defunct, but you could call it "Pennypincher Percent;" Spyro only cares about loot, it’s alliterative, and it’s silly without being *too* cumbersome.

How much is the bounty you mentioned for the new coveless?
Last I heard it was at $600, but laura would be the best one to answer that. All I know is one hundred of those dollars is from me. :)
@@XANDOAndy currently at $650!
Maybe just call it Inventory 120% and Everything 120%? Although, this video has been out for 6 months -- they've probably already decided on something XD
How about 120% and 120% (NMS)?
Any120%
Bro these speedrun video essays some people do are so over-dramatic 😂
this could've been a one minute video
i think it should be 120 percent legal. The trick would mean a lot more vs a miscellaneous category. Its pretty much a useless trick now
If loot skip is found it will become another category
Just like SMB3 no wrong warp or all those other games that get broken wide open
FUCK! Now I won't get $600! I've been looking for a new skip for a week!
The bounty hasn't been paid out yet. If we make boneless consistent then it will probably go to Daze, but if someone can find some other consistent method before then, I think it's still open.
should be called "120"%
more audio balancing less cringe yelling

What’s makin you cringe?
