Kent my dad is still with us at 70 and I pray for many more years of hunting, fishing and cooking over a campfire. Your poem makes me appreciate him even more. Thank you.
Thank you Mr. Rollins, both of you, for being who you are. Kent your "Horseshoes in Heaven" is a refection of what I feel about my cherished times and lessons from men from a different generation and place. I am blessed to have had them in my life.My deepest respect.
This brought tears to my eyes. My own sweet Daddy went home 6 years ago, and I bet they are conversing together now. Daddy was a pilot, but he grew up on a farm and I have watched him shoe a horse too.
I watched that video- then had to watch it again- remembering my father ( who wasn’t a ferrier) doing our horses in the spring and by the end of the week had done all the horses on the block and a few more the vets found!!- keep those heartbreaking videos coming !!
The Burlington Route sign made me think of me & my dad both retiring from the railroad after 40 years. Best signal maintainer on the old Chicago & Northwestern.
Kent I have to say that this has been and always will be my favourite poem of all time ! Thank you very much sir! You are one of my roll models I am proud to say I look up to ! Thank you so very much for all these life lessons you keep providing us !
I have listened to cowboy poetry for a long time, found some of yours today. It was very good , love it. Keep up kent, you got my vote on cooking and poetry.
This is about where I started years ago watching and learning! Love the cooking and info videos but a solid cowboy poem from a solid cowboy figure goes a log ways in my book. Keep up the good works…oh, and bring back some more of these!
Done gone and got me thinkin bout horses in heaven & brought this scripture strong mind Rev 19:14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. Your right Kent, lots to tend to even in heaven. Much obliged to Y'all for stirrin the memory chips of His Fire. -gilpin 41117 Passover Day
I just got word this mornin' of a cow man that I know... He's put in 90 years on earth and it seems now is his time to go.. he's been sleepin' for a couple days now and I can only hope as I sit here with tears in my eyes, that a merciful God will leave him to dream of his new ranch on the other side.
Dear Kent: I just happened by and heard your poetic praise of your father. My father had a hard time, his daddy died when he was three back in 1915, times were hard back then for those in the Ozarks especially for those without a father, there was no welfare, it was "Root Hog or Die" and Dad's loss made him determined to be the father to us that he knew we needed so desperately. Dad didn't have much of a chance, but he rode the rails to California's Oil Fields and Cotton Patches, met my Mom who herself, one of 7 children, was also from the Ozarks; she from North West Arkansas, he from South Central Missouri, Daddy was self educated, what little education he had, reading was a real chore for him, ciphering and arithmetic was also tough for him. They didn't have much, their love for one another, and their love of the Lord, but they made it happen, they earned with the Lord's help, a good living and raised each of us children to love God, our family, our Country and to love and be thankful for the work the Good Lord gave us. No man was ever more richly blessed than myself and my brother and sister. I am encouraged by you and your willingness to express your feelings for your father. Know that we will all be together with our fathers soon when we go home to Glory and meet them there. God Bless You and Yours Merry Christmas Don Denison
My Dad showed me how to live, but one of the greatest things my Dad ever did was showing me how to die. If I can die with the dignity and courage that he did, I'll have honored him.
What a loving tribute to your dad. I lost my Daddy 2 years ago and appreciate him more and more each day. I am so glad I had the people in my life I have had and I am able to tell them how much they mean to me. Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem I don't think I could have gotten though it.
I'm going to have to watch this a few more times, something in the middle caused my eyes to be a little blurry and it will probably happen each time I watch it...
I do blacksmithing as a hobby and I use an anvil that’s made for farriers. You’re spot on, it’s got a distinctive ring to it! I would like to send you something that I know a Cowboy like you would appreciate, something for you and your wife. Where can I send it? It’s something I’ve hammered on my farriers anvil
