My husband made coffee this way in a 5 gallon pot for 1 to 200 G.I.s every morning in the army. He learned the cool water part from a Missouri cowboy. You are his new favorite you tube channel.
Made me cry. My brother got Granpop's pot, had it for awhile, went to see him and there was the pot full of petunias...Sister in law thought it was cute..don't speak to her much....Happy 4th to you both..God Bless..
After reading a recently published Swiss study, I headed to UA-cam and Mr. Rollins' videos. This morning I made my first pot of Cowboy Coffee this morning and my cats who never bother my drinks are crawling all over me to get to my coffee cup. One of my tests of ready-made-food is that if the cats don't want it I shouldn't eat it. I guess they have been telling me I was drinking the wrong coffee for forty plus years. I'm 68 and learning new tricks everyday.

Thank you for your service, Jerry. I had an old Army vet tell me stories about artillery coffee. That's one thing I'd love to see from the way it was described to me.

As you said. Coffee played a big part in America's history. We started drinking coffee in protest to English tea. George Washington switched his Army from tea to coffee. England taxed tea. That's why it got thrown in the harbor and we drank coffee instead.
Mr. Rollins, I have to say that this reminds me of my childhood. We used to go out on a guys weekend. Food was cooked over an open fire, and so was the coffee. Coffee was cooked in an old coffee pot similar to yours straight on the fire. They liked it a bit stronger. A couple of scoops of a #10 plastic lid into a warming put off water. Bring to a boil then sit on the ground next to the fire to let sit a few minutes. It was told to me the cold ground would pull the grounds to the bottom of the pot. Very good cup of coffee. Thank you for the memories. God bless!
@@patrickthomas3859 Just got a small enamel coffee pot, seasoning it as we speak. Will let it sit all night, and tomorrow morning comes the big test :)
Hi..i enjoy watching your videos. You're almost family, my mama just turned 85 years old and she was born in Hollis, went to high school there. My Grandma taught her first, then me how to cook in iron. I don't recall seeing her cook in much else. You bring back fond memories and recipes. Thanks for making the videos...they are a treat to watch.
I am a Brit, so I start and finish the day with tea, but I drink coffee to help me work because it helps with the thinking process. One thing they have in common though, is that they are affected by the taste of the water you use. Hard, soft, fluorinated, chlorinated, peaty or spring clear water all make a noticeable difference to the outcomes, so we either filter the water or use bottled spring water if we want to get the best taste. Tap water just doesn’t cut it I am afraid!
It does in Wyoming USA!!! All comes down into the reservoirs all over the state from our many ranges of the Rocky Mountains. DEE-licious. I don't believe I could live longterm somewhere that the water wasn't absolutely delicious. Billings, Montana is 100 miles north, and if I have to go spend a night up there for some reason, I take plenty of water from home with me. Same with Casper, Wyoming - 200 miles SE of me. But, both industrial cities, although Casper is 2nd highest in population in Wyoming at about 58,000 people. I'm truly sorry your water isn't some of the finest. I truly am - & not just because it makes a huge difference in coggmmffee or tea! ❤
Up until 1864 and later people had to roast green coffee beans at home, in iron skillets like popping corn. A friend of mine in college worked on a pre-Castro ranch in Cuba, and he described how the cook in camp roasted coffee beans over a fire in a rotisserie and said you could smell the coffee roasting down wind from miles away.
My wife just bought me a brand new 32 cup coffee pot. I'm seasoning it now and can not wait to share a cup with my entire family. Thanks for sharing, God bless.

Thank you so much for this!! My husband just got an old percolator as a gift, like one his great grandfather had, he’s so excited and wanted to make sure it’s in great shape.
I have to say I do understand what you are saying about coffee pots. I have the normal 9 cup small pot, a Cowboy pot & a "Thrasher" size pot (which is even bigger ) yes they all go from fire pit to wood stove & wood grill too..we used to have people walk clear across camp at re enactments in the morning. Or if someone was having problems setting up their camp, I'd go over & ask," Do you have a coffee cup?" if they did I'd tell them bring it & if they didn't I'd tell them to bring a chair & I'd give them a cup of coffee. it got them to relax & then they had no problem setting up their camp.

I got 3 of them. They’re the best. Got cast iron skillets as well. The best cooking tools ever will last for years. So true take good care of the stuff it’ll last you more than a life time.
YEAH MAN!!!! That works for all types of coffee makers. Rinse, never wash with soap! I also never wash my cup. While serving in the Army we had a pot in the Platoon CP. Never washed it it and had to take it out for inspections higher than company level. Spoke to a woman recently who told me she was assigned to a motor pool as a Private and the first thing she did was wash the coffee pot. Told me the Motor Sergeant was almost in tears when he saw that.
I just bought a 9 qt U.S. navy copper coffee from 1898. It was well seasoned . I originally had a wrought iron swivel to keep the pot level while on high seas. I haven't made coffee in it yet. I am looking foward to the 9qt brewing experience.
Wow Kent this video goes back a couple year's and your so look right coffee is the first thing I reach for in my morning's heck i can almost smell your coffee brewing on ole bertha! Glad I stopped in to watch a older video. You and Shannon take care till later.
Nice, I have that same white with red trim coffee pot. Picked it up at a flea market for $15. Looks new, no chips, no dents, no holes. Though it is more coffee than I could drink, I was going to use it to heat water for doing the dishes. lol
I am not a coffee drinker, however, I would like to thank you for all the great videos and effort that you put into your videos. I have gotten a lot of great ideas about cooking. Thanks and keep up the great work and God bless ya all.
This recalls to me "Dotty," my neighbor from Tennessee, and my best friend's Ma. One day she told me that some people say you should never wash the coffee pot, but that she thought it was unsanitary not to, so she washed hers every day. She didn't drink coffee, mind you, but her husband was retired and laid around drinking cup after cup all day. It didn't give him any energy 😂 He wouldn't have known the difference anyway, because his tastebuds had been burned off in an industrial fire after he moved Up North to work in the factories during the Great Depression. My best friend was the "comfort of their aged years," the youngest of 6 and a great surprise. She took care of them until they passed away. May their souls rest in peace.
God bless you and thank you for your 💓 for this country and your tips and showing us how to do it the right way to try different ways to make food and drinks
i was looking for a video on how to clean my corroded percolator coffee pot, but i think i now want THAT KIND of coffee pot. 😂🤣😆🤗 and now that you taught me how to season it… 🏃🏼♀️
Thanks again to and for the Rollins family for another fine educational tutorial. I've got an old Blue granite pot with white specks all over that I salvaged from where my inlaws used to live. I remember when it was used for coffee making and, along with a couple of more kettles, it heated water for the kids nightly baths in the washtub. I wanted to resurrect it for our camping trips but time and neglect had taken a toll on it. Along the bottom seam I found several small holes while using the sun as you demonstrated. I don't know if it could be brazed or not. I was thinking there might be other areas that might be too thin and ready to spring a leak. I guess the sentiment I hold for this old coffee pot is too strong to let it disappear. We have a lot of memories using this old pot. Thanks again my friend's for sharing another aspect of/in the everyday lives of chuckwagon cooks. Stan
Harrison Mantooth .... You might want to add a thick slurry of porcelain powder...condense the putty like powdered porcelain...and have it refired...The melted porcelain will seal the holes....look for someone that does pottery they have an oven big enough to get the pot in...same technique as porcelain artwork on copper for jewelry...just bring it to melting temp of porcelain There should be a lower temp porc powder for repairs of jewelry
Great Cowboy Coffee Videos! I may not be a Cowboy But, On a Steel Horse I Ride! Harley Davidson. Anyway, living out West in Northern California I have always heard about "Cowboy Coffee" It seemed like it would be full of grinds, so I made a pot of Cowboy Coffee in the only thing I had a stainless steel saucepan. Followed your recipe for boiling time etc. and as a life long coffee drinker at 66 years old, I Just Had The Best Cup Of Black Coffee In My Life!!!
I love my morning coffee, black of course! (There is no other 'real' cup of coffee other than black). Anyway, I have a good porcelain pot I got from REI years ago and am ashamed to say I washed it out after every outing. I also used the percolator basket that came with it to make my coffee. You have assured that these practices will NEVER happen again! I will season that pot tomorrow and it will never see soap or basket again! Thanks for the kick in the butt!
I am so surprised someone else knows how to make good coffee. These "modern" electric coffee makers make terrible coffee. And you are so right about the coffee cups too! Thanks for another great video!
👍another great video. Yep my grandma had the old enamel french pot and soap and water never touched it. Lol just rinsed out and it was making coffee non stop when all the family was around. I have a old gray enamel coffee pot for camping and emergencies.
This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.
I was roasting green coffee beans the other day. My cast iron pan had a speck of rust, I'm camping, and roasting the beans seasoned the pan, the oil from the beans. I see how that pot of coffee seasons it. I'm going to town soon, gonna' pick up my new coffee pot. I think I'll splice a ¼" rope on the handle, and to the lid.
Kent, I have the same 3-quart enamelware pot you've got, that I picked up from a general store a few years ago. It works great. Enjoying another pot of coffee right now. Keep the expertise coming!
Kent I have watched your channel for a long time and you probably know that,,well I am a U.S. Navy veteran and at sea a cup of good coffee in the morning is the deal, I think that Navy coffee is a famous thing and I have to say the Navy provided us with the best damn coffee that was available anywhere, But I am an Oklahoma Boy and i grew up around our farms and ranches and experienced tending to livestcock, hunting and fishing and we have the something I dont know what it is.... but that daylight coffee over a campfire, there is nothing to compare in our state.
You’ve done made me hungry this morning and got me thinking about brewing up a pot of Arbuckles coffee to go with my bacon and hens fruit. Wish you’d wander up to Pryor for Cowboy Traders day one of these years.
I tried making some coffee out in the open prairie, (my front yard parking lot covered in gravel) had me a good ole fire rolling under a grate, turned to coals and raked them out a bit.... set that Keurig on top full of a K-cup of my favorite choice and 20 minutes later it was a molten, boiled mess of black plastic with a chrome bail handle sticking out the top...! No coffee that morning Kent.... where did I go wrong? LOL..... lesson learned, don't get your Keurig coffee maker over the hottest coals!! God Bless Shannon & Kent...!
So I looked at the coffeepot on Amazon you gave a link for. On the page I scrolled down & Amazon showed the "Frequently Bought Together" & paired with the coffeepot was "A Taste of Cowboy" cookbook.
OK, I splurged 😁 at Wally World and picked up a stainless coffee pot, and will experiment with seasoning it and then trying out Cowboy Coffee from that. Despite it being stainless and not enamelware, I think it will work. The interior of my Stanley travel mug, which is stainless, got seasoned after a year or so of near daily use, without boiling coffee in it, so a deliberate treatment or two should work.
Kent & Shannon, I purchased one of the 3 qt coffee kettles off of your link on Amazon and have made great coffee ☕️ a few times since I received my new Cowboy Coffee Pot!! While we were waiting on the new kettle... I just broke out a 3qt pan and had at it, in the mean time!! Wow! Great coffee! We have used Folgers “Black Silk”, and Lavazza expresso coffee grounds. They have never taste better!! Thank you 😊

I got 3 of them. They’re the best. Got cast iron skillets as well. The best cooking tools ever will last for years. So true take good care of the stuff it’ll last you more than a life time.
Thanks for watching, they are the best thing to cook with
YEAH MAN!!!!
You are right on
I just bought a 9 qt U.S. navy copper coffee from 1898. It was well seasoned . I originally had a wrought iron swivel to keep the pot level while on high seas. I haven't made coffee in it yet. I am looking foward to the 9qt brewing experience.
It ought to be good, hope you enjoy
This man makes me proud to be an Okie. God bless
thanks Jesse, good to hear forma another Okie
Love your last statement about not judging a man ❤
Woke up this morning... again im watching Kent's videos

Finally found me a coffee pot going to season it with Starbucks coffee and after it boils for 15min going to let it sit all day.
Thanks Mr. Rollins
Don't forget to toss that Starbucks stuff out when you are done seasoning..it's not for drinking that bitter stuff!
You are a very blessed man...Thank you...I love your recipes
I look forward to a cup of coffee with you in the morning, and a couple cold ones in the evening!!!
Ever since I saw your video making coffee, that's the only way I make it now. best cup of coffee ever had! I don't even use cream anymore.

Guerito you are such a cool cowboy thank you for sharing all your tricks with the rest of the world. Im gonna try that.
Our pleasure
UA-cam really needs to add a "two thumbs up" option.
Our pleasure Allen
best anecdote i heard today
50 years ago in a fox hole I was drinking cold C ration coffee. Your coffee sure would have been great. Thank you Sir for the lesson on fine coffee.
Thanks for tuning in
Great video Cowboy Kent! Thanks and keep em comin'!
i was looking for a video on how to clean my corroded percolator coffee pot, but i think i now want THAT KIND of coffee pot. 😂🤣😆🤗
and now that you taught me how to season it… 🏃🏼♀️
Thank you sir.. nothing but good common sense and knowledge
You might want to add a thick slurry of porcelain powder...condense the putty like powdered porcelain...and have it refired...The melted porcelain will seal the holes....look for someone that does pottery
they have an oven big enough to get the pot in...same technique as porcelain artwork on copper for jewelry...just bring it to melting temp of porcelain
There should be a lower temp porc powder for repairs of jewelry
Use it in your kitchen to hold all your large utensils, you will always have the memories , when you see it.
I got to taste your cowboy coffee with Shannon's biscuits on our Sunday Supper trip to Kansas. Sooo good!
Cindy thanks for watching and it a pleasure to meet you
Great Cowboy Coffee Videos!
I lived in Weatherford OK for about 7 years. By the looks of the country around you, you're not too far down the road from there.
This was filmed in South central Kansas, Thanks for watching
Thanks for watching
Im gonna do this when i go hunting during winter for sambar in victoria australia.thankyou cowboy.
Our pleasure James
Great information Kent...! Thank you and Mrs. Rollins for your work. God bless you and keep you both.
Thanks John and God Bless you as well
Shannon you make Kent look like a star
That she does
God bless you & Shannon Mr Rollins and for all you do 🤠
👍another great video. Yep my grandma had the old enamel french pot and soap and water never touched it. Lol just rinsed out and it was making coffee non stop when all the family was around. I have a old gray enamel coffee pot for camping and emergencies.
My lovely coffee queen is in a a real treat!!
Thank you Kent & Shannon!! 🙏
Good coffee and that roasting does help some iron
Thank you Sir, I'm always learning from watching your videos!! Keep the videos coming.
Thanks so much
Kent, I have the same 3-quart enamelware pot you've got, that I picked up from a general store a few years ago. It works great. Enjoying another pot of coffee right now. Keep the expertise coming!
Thanks and I think I will have another cup myself
@@CowboyKentRollins so that big ole pot is 3 qt??
Just like Ken @0:58 I baptize myself in coffee everyday.
Love your vids and your style Ken. God Bless & Stay healthy.
Great video. Taught me something new. Will be seasoning our pot tomorrow. Thanks
It is great coffee Jay and thanks so much for watching and your service
My new found hero !! God Bless You
Thanks Dan and God bless you as well
Man oh man. I need to mosey by and get a cuppa coffee from you. Thank you for the videos.
Kent, I tried this today after buying your recommended pot from Amazon. It was delicious. Thank you for your videos.
You’ve done made me hungry this morning and got me thinking about brewing up a pot of Arbuckles coffee to go with my bacon and hens fruit.
Wish you’d wander up to Pryor for Cowboy Traders day one of these years.
Good country that is and good people
Cowboy Kent Rollins yes it is. I’ve been here for 44 years now.
Lol am I the only one that teared up watchin this brings some good memories to mind
.........yup.......good coffee is a blessing.......✨
I tried making some coffee out in the open prairie, (my front yard parking lot covered in gravel) had me a good ole fire rolling under a grate, turned to coals and raked them out a bit.... set that Keurig on top full of a K-cup of my favorite choice and 20 minutes later it was a molten, boiled mess of black plastic with a chrome bail handle sticking out the top...! No coffee that morning Kent.... where did I go wrong? LOL..... lesson learned, don't get your Keurig coffee maker over the hottest coals!!
God Bless Shannon & Kent...!
I would like to have seen that
Maybe I fibbed a little... lol. Sure do like ya'lls style Kent!
very instructional and looking forward for my morning coffee after watching this. Thank you again Kent
Thanks Eddie for watching
So I looked at the coffeepot on Amazon you gave a link for. On the page I scrolled down & Amazon showed the "Frequently Bought Together" & paired with the coffeepot was "A Taste of Cowboy" cookbook.
It is a good little coffee pot
Love the videos! Well produced with great content. Now I need a cup of coffee! Thanks for all the time and effort you put into them. God Bless!
It will work just fine
I never knew you need to season your coffee pot 😮 Great video 👍
Sure makes a difference
Kent & Shannon, I purchased one of the 3 qt coffee kettles off of your link on Amazon and have made great coffee ☕️ a few times since I received my new Cowboy Coffee Pot!!
While we were waiting on the new kettle... I just broke out a 3qt pan and had at it, in the mean time!! Wow! Great coffee!
We have used Folgers “Black Silk”, and Lavazza expresso coffee grounds. They have never taste better!!
Thank you 😊
I agree! I use Folgers Black Silk. I now own two pots, one for home and another I take on the road. This method is the Holy Grail of coffee!
Love watching your videos Kent. At some point you have to start thinking about your restaurant. You will make a lot of people happy. Would love to try that coffee.
Thanks for watching Art
