The original gasket that I used is no longer available, but Amazon says that this gasket will fit my mixer.

Thanks. This was extremely helpful. Two points:
1. Remind us where to put the washers when re-assembling.
2. If one decides to remove the speed controller, at the back, in order to clean the flour out, you must be careful to retain the spacing with the motor shaft. So, don't unscrew it immediately without noting the exact distance of the plate to the screw holes. There's a locking nut holding the springs in place, but it doesn't really lock.
Thanks for the pointers. I pinned your comment at the top.
I've watched other tutorials and I found this one the most thorough. You also have a soothing voice that makes me believe that I can do this. ☺ Thank you for a job well done.
Thank you. Watched the whole thing. I am a 69 year old woman and I think I'll order the gasket and grease and do it myself. Looks like fun! No joke.
And its really not that hard. You just have to be careful.
Very detailed. Thank you!
Great info. My wife's 30 year old mixer needed this preventive maintenance. Your video made this easy. Thank you!
I had problem removing the pin. I didn't have the right tool. I decided to buy the driver and use 5/32 bit. I put WD40 before knocking it and it worked. Thank you for the tip in using a skewer to adjust the gear. It's very helpful. I didn't use the knife butter:) . I used popsicle sticks for craft. Thank you so much for this detailed video. I watched it 4 times to help me with the process.
All that old grease is food grade. Same as you got with yout new kit. Good video.
Great video. Very helpful. Also, if the off/on speed switch won't stay in the off position, the screw holding it might be loose. Just tighten it while the mixer is apart.
Thank you! You helped me get my old mixer up and running again. I love how you went step by step. This was so easy to follow.
Glad it helped!
Hello,
Snowing today in Matsumoto Japan.
i spended this afternoon fixing this mixer.
Fixed.
Thank you.
I’m actually cleaning out my mother-in-law’s KitchenAid mixer at this moment and was glancing at your video. Very informative and my grease look just like yours lol 50 year old motor oil. 🤢🤢🤢🤮
Doing a little bit more research, KitchenAid recommends running your mixer at max speed for minimum two minutes every so often to allow the grease to fully move around and eliminates this leakage.
Have a great day. Hope you’re doing well.
I also had only one lock washer on one of the bolts and it was in the same position as yours. Interesting.
Excellent DIY demo
Just did my mixer using your video. Very helpful, thank you! One issue I ran into was that when I put the top and bottom of the motor housing together, I didn't notice that some wires escaped the cardboard retainer at the back of the motor. They didn't get stuck between the metal housing pieces, thankfully, but they did get wedged where I couldn't put the back of the housing on. I was able to push the wires into the correct place without taking the housing apart again, just bent the corner of the cardboard retainer a bit. Wires are a little crimped, but the insulation is still intact, not cut, so I think they are ok. Mixer does work. I also noticed a splop-splop-splop sound for the first couple minutes, I assume that's just the grease in the planetary gear getting distributed.
Thank you! This was a very helpful video! My poor mixer has been used heavily over the years & it was making funny noises. It occurred to me that some maintenance was in order & your instructions were perfect... though unfortunately, it's still making funny noises.🥴
We messed up with the set screw, not loosening up before knocking pin through. We should have listend. Our fault, great video
Thank you for the video. It was extremely helpful to fix my mixer. (Love your dog)
Thanks for making the video, clear and easy to follow. Jo Ann
Thank you for your kind words.
Great video. Thank you
Glad you liked it!
Thanks.
You're welcome
Good video, my mixer also had only one screw with a lock washer and it was in the same location.
Thanks. I am glad that you found it helpful.
Help! My older model Kitchenaid stand mixer that hadnt been used in years was clearly leaking oil and making a bit of a grinding noise so I carefully took it apart , cleaned and regreased it. NOW IT WONT TURN ON! Yikes. I didn't unnecessarily touch any wires (it is possible i got the overload switch wires reversed though) and what I can see of the motor and wires etc looks intact and clean. Any help and suggestions are really appreciated!!!
Can you please tell me what I do
Can I use tallow instead of petroleum based grease?
I can't get the lock pin out, in fact, it is so soft that the metal is warping and stamping down and into place even more, help
How's the grease holding up, ive been looking all over for benalene 930-2 but parts sites want 50 to 80 dollars and a outfit that supposedly repacks that grease in generic can but has no info on product, if in fact it even that food grade grease. I very leary on what to buy on ebay and amazon anymore could be buying fake crap.
Thanks for the informative video. Does it really need that much grease?
I think so. There was quite a lot when I took it out. If anything,I feel that it could use more.
Those metal gears must be constantly lubricated.
I have an old (30 years old) Kitchen Aid mixer K45SS that served me well until 3 days ago. When I open it , speed control governor was off with one of 4 legs broken.I put it back in place but mixer won't start. Is there, (and where) tripped motor overload control or something else caused the problem.
I was not certain, so I looked up the service manual (sep.yimg.com/ty/cdn/mendingshed/kitchenaidservicemanual.pdf). Page 28 has a wiring diagram. It doesn't appear that your model has a circuit breaker. You might want to check out Jeremy Fielding's channel to troubleshoot the electric motor.
I bay this mashin amer but is now working to UK when I try to us light is tan of in my house
PLEASE HELP ME. I CAN'T GET THE PIN OUT TO REMOVE THE PLANETARY. I've used a punch and hammer, and then a bit from a screw driver, to better cover the overall size of the surface of the pin, and a hammer. I have even sprayed it with WD40 in hopes that some would leak between the pin and it's chamber. I wiggled the whole planetary in hopes of getting the WD40 in better. I've tried putting the mixer at every angle.... upright, upside down and on it's side. I've tried both sides of the pin. I've even had 2 other people try it ... but nothing is working! And the end of the pin, and area around the pin is taking a beating. 😢
I was having problems with getting the pin out also, but I saw a comment that said to use a heat gun. After warming it up for about 45 seconds, the pin came right out. Good luck!

Edit: Extra information about my model. It is an Artisan and does not have screws under the silver name band thingy.
I wish that I could see your mixer to help.
I have the same problem!
I can't get my planetary pin out either.
