Jan, you did it AGAIN. My quilt group is having a club birthday party and we wondered what "favor" we could possibly make to give everyone. This is it!! You always come thru for me. Thank you for another great video.
@@JanHowell I've just finished making this and adore it! You are right - it becomes the tomato shape the more you stuff the heck out of it! I will post a pic on my Instagram account soon!

@@JanHowell People in the Victorian Era used to put tomatoes on their fire mantle to give them luck and protection. During winter months when tomatoes were not in season, people would make them out of fabric. Back then, pin cushions were also used to display needles and pins, they were put on shelves to show off collections. Eventually, people started putting their pins inside the fabric tomatoes. It has since caught on and you can now find tomato pin cushions everywhere they sell sewing materials.
Ahhh! Love this! My grandma use to have one that I’m sure she made! Thanks for bringing that sweet memory back to me! ❤️
Me too. I think that's why I love it so much!
Thank you for sharing. I plan to use red fabric pieces from an old quilt to make one🍅!

Good question!
So cute! Is there an old story behind the tomato shape of the pin cushions from long ago? I feel like I've heard one before.
Thanks!

I'm not aware of any, but would love to know if there is.
