I remember watching Jake Brown fall live. I legit thought he died. Then he got up and walked it off like it was a regular bail. The most insane X Games moment for me
Jake Brown with the gnarliest crash I’ve ever seen to this day. I was in my living room watching this and couldn’t believe my eyes, glad he’s still with us today!! 😭
I love how they say they got the best medical staff on site and then have him walk off XD. He is lucky to be alive and could have had sever internal bleeding. He is throughly tough!
Nowadays absolutely no way they would let him walk after that even if he was able and wanting to. They would stretcher him in case internal bleeding etc..
i just looked at the list of injuries he had... broken wrist and vertebrae, bruised lungs, bruised liver, ruptured spleen and a concussion. i mean... i would not be walking haha!!
Bob Burnquist's vert run gives me chills every time. What a run, a pure and clean flow of perfect skateboarding technique and style. Proud to be brazilian man
The announcers had already assumed it was over. NO ONE expected that. To that point, I had seen every second of every XGames broadcast... Never saw a run like that before, never will again. I freaked out worse for that than the 9.
Bob said in an interview that all he was trying to think was "well, that happens once in a 1000 runs, so statistically it is highly unlikely to happen again today"
i don't care what anyone says, but Tony Hawk, doing a 900 in a normal vert, is on of the best things ever seen in skateboarding. And Bob's run offcourse, plus, just about any Rodney Mullen trick.
that 900 still gives me the chills watching it....i remember clearly watching his multiple attempts and then just setting my vcr to watch it in the morning, saying to myself " he won't land it", then the next morning watching him make it!!! i live in CT and i missed my train to work in NYC just watching it over and over for about 20 minutes...HISTORIC MOMENT for sure!!!....that BOB run is forever the best single run Ive seen...90% switch!!!!!
I cant believe that guy survived that fall and was able to walk. I had to google the injuries. According to his wikipedia "On 2 August 2007, during the Summer X Games 2007 Big Air section, Brown fell 45 feet (14 m) onto the bottom of the ramp below. Brown's injuries were a fractured wrist, fractured vertebrae, bruised liver, bruised lung, ruptured spleen and concussion.[6] After several minutes of unconsciousness, Brown walked off the ramp surface with assistance."
Love Shaun White’s vert run. His power and speed going into those tricks was insane. Those grabs and the position he grabbed the board was insane. Bob’s run was also crazy. He just kept going. Like the run felt like it was never going to stop. The zen was real.
Bob’s Vert run in 2001, Nyjah’s Hardflip over the hubba in 2013, Mitchie Brusco’s 1260 in 2019, & Tony Hawk’s 900 in 1999 have got to be some of the greatest skateboarding moments in X Games history
I remember the Bob's vert final! And still hearing the announcers lose their minds and not being able to speak was all you needed to hear! Utterly breathtaking run!
They should just have separate medals for Gap, Vert, and combo. The 1260 was incredible and a perfect score on the vert, but combined with the lackluster gap trick it never stood a chance.
it was impressive because that trick was new, but technically he do it in a mega ramp so not that hard enough than do it in a vert ramp like the 900 of tony hawk
He didn't get gold because that was 2 trick competition. His first trick was too simple, and judge must be objective to make a score. If his first trick is better. He'll get Platinum medal instead
Doesn't matter how many times I see Jake Brown's slam, it will never fail to send a shiver right through me when he lands. How tf did he not only survive it, but get up and manage to walk?!
so many great moments.. i remember watching live when Jake Brown slammed and i thought i just watched someone die.. glad hes still with us after that gnarly of a slam
I remember watching Shaun Whites Vert Run live and I just had goosebumps the entire time I couldn’t believe my eyes. The standing ovation, Tony Hawk calling it the best run of the night, the pressure everything just felt so perfect
Bro, the Bob Burnquist run was so legendary to me. I remember watching it live and the next day it was all my friends and I were talking about at school. That commentary was so perfect too. That moment will always stick with me, the most out of any vert skate moment I have ever seen.
I was watching X games when he threw down that run. I still get chills when I watch it. Bob is so special. The creativity, the skill, the commitment..he embodies skateboarding.
every time i see that clip of tony doing the 900 i get so emotional. his determination, the support he got from the crowd, the other skaters reaction, plus his sheer joy of it. it's perfect in every way.
That run from 11:54 on is absolutely ruthless. Together with the hyped up casters, beautiful! Also, seeing that meter at 14:08 fill up on the left side is very funny in a dark way.
Remember 1999, my mate told me he had something for me to watch, at the time I didn't even know much about skateboarding or even heard of the X-Games, Vert Best trick was the recording, sat there watching (VHS back in the day), feeling the vibe of wanting to see this person I've never heard of to land this trick, the energy from the people dragged me in to it more and little did I know that seeing this happen would change my life. Going from a kid, barely knowing any one, the skateboard brought me close with people, my own little family and we'd skate day in, day out, worked and campaigned to get skateparks built in my home town, gave a light on the sport within our area. Those times will not be forgotten as I've moved on, but it was all down to watching a video, of a man called Tony Hawk landing the 900, who soon became a house hold name with the launch of the THPS series that everyone I knew wanted to play. That will always be my defining moment that got me into skateboarding, seeing the energy and the friendships, then I came across Rodney Mullen vs Daewon Song and I was hooked on my love for skateboarding, lets hope the Olympics after all has gotten better gives more entertain to those seeing skateboarding for the first time, as much as that one moment gave me. Knowing what The 900 did for skateboarding, definitely puts it at the top of this list.
I remember watching almost all of these growing up. I'm almost tearing up thinking about how positive an influence skateboarding was for me, even to this day at 38 years old. I'll never forget the Burnquist run, that first 900, and unfortunate Jake Brown hitting the flat so hard he tore internal organs and both shows flew off.
technically medical staff cant force you to do anything if your conscious and able to make sound judgement. im pretty sure all participants sign a waiver before hand releasing x-games and its staff of any legal issues in cases like this. still would've been nice to see him put his pride aside. it was a pride thing, nothing to do with the crowd
I remember watching Jake take that fall and being horrified. Then to watch him get up and walk away. I couldn’t believe what I saw. That dude is a MONSTER.
Best moment is probably watching Tonys 900 live...but also in 1996 Tony jumping into the water off the ramp was a great memory from when i skated as a kid
2008 Skateboard Big Air, Danny Way landing impossible tricks after a broken ankle and Bob Burnquist winning last minute gold in tears. 100% Had to be in the list, just saying 🤙🏽
Danny Way is king and even if its not in this video it will live in the hearts of all skaters. I'm taking every run speech still sends chills, that dude is an animal
Great compilation, Jake Brown is literally warrior huge props to that guy. Fell 45 feet, unconscious for almost 10 minutes and still got up and walked away, absolutely incredible. "Brown's injuries were a fractured wrist, fractured vertebrae, bruised liver, bruised lung, ruptured spleen and concussion."
That Jake Brown slam is so hard to watch. Not only is it brutal, but the pure elation in the voice of the announcers that quickly drops away as everyone is seeing what's about to happen. But then, since we know he's okay, the "I can't believe he nailed the 720" as Jake Brown lay motionless on the ground is darkly hilarious.
I am never not amazed by Bob's run, its legit, possibly the greatest thing I've ever seen in any sport, and I don't care what is happening, even sexy time, if that run comes on TV, that is 100% my focus, because it's THAT GREAT
