You can keep your hendrixs and Claptons. Dave might not be into 5 minute solos but boy can he play. Subtle as hell in some places full on rock royalty in others. Just love the Kinks.
I've read alot about him in past two years and many people from his youth into his 20's..30's say he was very sensitive young man polite to others and sympathetic. He also was very curiously hyperactive from childhood onward. Luckily he had his music guitar as an outlet. He devoured books on different spiritualities et al. Any pic of Dave throughout the years if he is not smiling.. his eyes still sparkle.
Yes he does. Cheerful and fun. Dave always was finding new guitar sounds. Tasty leads, but also a very good acoustic rhythm guitar player. Dave’s playing gave the Kinks their quirky character. I liked his high harmony singing. And, of course, Dave’s lead vocals were rocking, but also could be ethereal, as in Living On a Thin Line. The nice kind of man to have a beer with. I enjoyed reading his book. I wish he would play a few numbers with the Kastoff Kinks. Ray originally wrote You Really Got Me on the piano. Look at what Dave did to it.
I produced shows and worked with the Kinks in the late 70's. They were great people, not just musicians, but great to spend time with as genuine good people. I did over 40 shows with various artists. These guys are still to this day a stand out. Was a great experience in my life.
Jonesy, id like to thank you man, I've had a really tough start to the year, its been a rocky road, but at the end of the day I look forward to listening to Jonesy's jukebox to hear my favourite musicians and discover guys and girls I've never heard of. Now the great Dave Davies meets the great Steve Jones, perfect, thanks a lot man.Paul
This is how two grown men talk. Honestly. Didn't read the book but I like you, mate. Once you get honesty down no one can destroy you, because they don't have anything on you.
The most underrated Guitarist of all time. This is the guy that almost single-handedly INVENTED modern Rock and Roll, while everyone else was doing pop love songs. First guy to turn it up and first guy to incorporate feedback.
real treasure here, thanks Steve! Dave you look awesome! man, what a fantastic guy. many of us i think really appreciate the insights. the kinks to me are maybe the band i will always think of as the real kickstarters of british bands, and before anyone else...was THE KINKS! I love the pistols, i love the damned, i love crass, i love dr feelgood, i love the amebix, bolt thrower, slits, the specials I love Bowie, I love slade, sweet, so many great groundbreaking uk bands. but nobody can argue with the KINKS. thank you Dave! Living treasure right here!
Best ever interviews for me . Steve just naturally connects . I idolise the KInks , so this is just friggin great to see , hope to see Ray at some point too , made my day seeing Dave I wish someone in the US would nail it on why the Kinks were banned once and for all. Great stuff again Steve
I'm six in 66 and I'm listening to Luxembourg and singing Sunday afternoon "I gotta big fat mama trying to break me" mama says is that about me , "yes" I say, she says, "just you wait". . . true story Dave/Jonesy.
What a Great Mix! The Legendary Dave Davies with the equally legendary Steve Jones! Let's face it, The Kinks were groundbreaking with the "heavy sound", filled with melody and energy. Call it what you want:- Hard Rock, Punk, or whatever. Music at its best! This has got to be the best channel to catch up with our heroes from yesterday. Another classic interview! Thanks Steve! You're the Man!
I do believe the brawling stories of Dave and Ray have grown a life of their own and agree mostly bollocks. Watch them.. even in 1990's whilst performing together several times in one song they look at one another and smile. In most pics of original band..who is standing stand by side...Ray & Dave. They're two different personalities Ray was only boy in family with several older sisters..then Dave came along. Boys will be boys. Loads of stories over decades are embellished by media.
Ain't this the most down to earth rock icon you could ever meet. One of the best and most underrated guitarists EVER. Some of his riffs pure brilliance
I love that Dave mentions his discovery of the power chord by listening to The Ventures! They influenced soooo many musicians from that time and it’s nice that they get props where deserved. They were the Kings!
Yes it is. It can be hard to recover from a stroke. My grandma is very messed up because of one. So seeing this interview with Dave gives me hope that you can recover moreso than I had thought
Not ever been a massive Kinks fan but since this interview checked out more of their discography. Dave Davies comes across as a sound, level headed geezer. Like someone else mentioned, Jonesy brings out the best in people during his interviews. Love his show and his banter with Mr Shovel is quality but the highlight for me is when Jonesy hypnotises the likes of Mother Earth and even himself. Comedy Gold. Keep it up Jonesy 👍
if you get the chance, see and hear-of course, him live now, he really really enjoys it and youll enjoy it too, got the chance in '95. wow. Real deal but fun.Seein him, smiilin, playin with local rockers/fans, @about 20 feet away with his Xfiles-t, was the year hilight, man.
Keeping up with the Jones' ... Submission is my favorite Pistols song. If I ever get angry I'll put it on LOUD and it never fails to do the trick, fantastic riff Steve. I used to play it in my band too...took a while to decipher the lyrics though in the pre Internet days
this interview must be from 2015/2016, since he talks about having a gig at the Roxy in Los Angeles/Hollywood, a concert that i attended... (drove from San Diego).
I love the way Dave does Tired Of Waiting live. I can always go back to his Rock Bottom recording from the Bottom Line to refresh my memory. I was at Jones Beach for the Steve Jones/Kinks show. It was loud and it was fun. Jonesy was taking it seriously throughout although the yokels in the audience were not. He gave up near the end and allowed some overweight greaseball wearing a Peter Gabriel tee-shirt to sing Anarchy. It was a sufficiently awful performance. Oh the stories that 'singer' must tell.
yes but the mono mixes are different, different reverbs, slaps, used in the stereo, the balance is different as well. I highly reccomned the mono mixes of beatles , A and B the difference of nowhere man and you will see the reverbs are vastly different. Eqs are different. when stereo first came out they were usually done by the tape op in like a day without much overwatch by produces or the band. 2nd to the mono, so bands claim the mono mixes were how they were suppose to sound.
Love this. On some of these interviews, Jonesy sounds bored. But you can tell he has more of an affinity with Dave- talking about football and that. I read Rotten's book and he implied that 'Submission' came from his and Glen's liking of the Doors (presumably 'Hello I Love You') rather than the Kinks
You can keep your hendrixs and Claptons. Dave might not be into 5 minute solos but boy can he play. Subtle as hell in some places full on rock royalty in others. Just love the Kinks.
Dave is so underrated.
Well Dave can Jam as well, doesn't he?
He really brings out the best in Ray's songs too with both his guitar and back-up vocals. He always plays what's right for the songs.
I never get tired of saying Dave Davies is a brilliant, master guitarist. So damn tasteful, wonderful energy and hooks.
Steve doesn't interview so much as have a conversation with he's guest, everything is just so relaxed. I love he's style.
You got it right sir.
@Bee Vee easy solution. Don't bother listening or watching.
His style,not he's
Has he interviewed Suggs?
"Are the Kinks in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?" when he knows his One album, 3 year band is, may be his dumbest question ever.
I love Dave Davies, he always comes across as a really nice bloke
yep, seems like a terrific guy to hang with and talk sports and REAL music!
I've read alot about him in past two years and many people from his youth into his 20's..30's say he was very sensitive young man polite to others and sympathetic. I agree, Charlie
His book “Kink” was hilarious at times, very entertaining overall.
I think Dave looks great- healthy and young at heart. I would fall over dead if I ever met him. He’s a proper legend. Dave I love you ❤️
I walked past his brother Ray a couple of years ago in Hampstead, London. I was struck dumb🙌🙌🙌🙌
@@citizen1163 where specifically in hampstead??

Dave has recovered well after his stroke a while back, great interview Jonesy!
I thought the same thing. I saw him at an awards show, and he was struggling to speak, so this was GREAT to see!
he's recovered incredibly well! so great to see
He does. Very animated. Hope his progressing well.
I’m so happy Dave recovered so well 🤗☮️💜
Dave's autobiography is a great read, a must for anyone into rock or guitar players, or UFOs 😉👍
Jonsey simply brings out the best of these legends. Dave’s best interview in a long time and that’s down to Steve.
This is how two grown men talk. Honestly. Didn't read the book but I like you, mate. Once you get honesty down no one can destroy you, because they don't have anything on you.
Fantastic....Dave invented the first real rock and roll riff and Steve practised that riff down to his bones early on
Even if he did call him "Dave Davis", lol.
@@soundhealer6043 Brits pronounce it like Davis.
@@angelalalley7593 Yeah I'd forgotten about that, lol.
One of Pete Townshend's favourite guitarists. Dave really is vastly underrated.

Bullshit, he is great
The Beatles I Feel Fine was the first hit record to incorporate feedback
@@frankmccormick1175 You mean accidental spurious recording noises, not music...bet I can find a mic feeding back on a Bing Crosby record...
I knew it wouldnt be long before someone said the Beatles were the first to do something@@frankmccormick1175
Dave's speech, is back to pre-stroke days!
Absolute legend is Dave Davies
I just spent my life, living in a rock & roll fantasy. And, it's been great so far. Thank you, Dave Davies!
I Could listen to Jonesy and Jonesys Jukebox and Guests all day and night
In a world of fake celebrity bullshit. These two just having a normal conversation like they are in the pub. Its refreshing to hear
These two guys are great. What a terrific conversation. Steve is my favorite music interviewer.
What a lovely guy. This show has been a great find.
I can’t believe that one of my hero’s from my favorite band lives in the state where I live. New Jersey !!!!

Ask loog-Oldham
Not being a musician myself, I sure love listening to Jones and his guests describing the business and how they come up with these great songs.
The Kinks "Low Budget" cd is never far from my cd player! Thanks for the music Dave!
what did you say?
His playing in You Really Got Me still sounds exciting today.
I'm so happy to see Dave's in good condition I love him ❤️
Jonesy's interviews are always so much fun.
That really got me.
Dave plays with great restraint and wonderful timing
I'm six in 66 and I'm listening to Luxembourg and singing Sunday afternoon "I gotta big fat mama trying to break me" mama says is that about me , "yes" I say, she says, "just you wait". . . true story Dave/Jonesy.
It's very calming listening to Steve Jones.
Two of the best musicians very intelligent 👍
Best rock and roll bank ever. What have they got like 25 great tunes. Dudes are beasts. Cool interview. LONG LIVE THE WHO

What I've always loved about The Kinks is they had songs about "The Human Condition", the everyday man with humour and wit.
Happy Rocking Birthday Sir!!!
Love and Total Respect to The Dashing Dave Davies👍🤗👍❤❤
Keep on rocking Dave❤️
I love Dave's smile.

This is charming- well-matched meeting. Dunno why but the young Dave is really apparent here.
he's young at heart, always been humble and genuine
I can’t believe that one of my favorite guitar players lives in my state.
Best interview on Jonesy jukebox
Actually one of the great rock n roll interviews
The Kinks at Richfield Coliseum 1983, “Come Dancing” tour. Awesome show Dave.
Ain't this the most down to earth rock icon you could ever meet. One of the best and most underrated guitarists EVER. Some of his riffs pure brilliance

Great to see Dave chirpy and chipper

I LOVE 💘 THE KINKS.
Lived for a bit in the same building as him is London, very nice guy.
Distortion + Power Chords
Changed music forever
Just love Steve's giggle.
Thanks to Malcolm,👍😎
Love Steve just a superb interviewee.
Great show
Very interesting interview. Dave mentioned he was influenced by the Ventures.
"Rats" and "Strangers" are two of the very best Kinks songs, both written by the great Dave Davies.
Don't forget Love Me Till the Sun Shines & Death of a Clown!
"Funny Face" and "Wait Till The Summer Comes Along" too!
Living on a Thin Line is good too. :)

Thanks to everyone contributing, I hadn't heard a couple of those in too long!
I like how Jonesy calls Ray Davies "yer bro." Jonesy's great at male bonding!
The Kinks were well under-rated despite the fact that they were probably the best of the lot of that era....with the Small Faces.
My 2 guitar heros! Love it!
the guitar solo on till the end of the day is 'kin' magic my old china plate. Bruce Rioch signed Bergkamp but as it's you ,I'll allow it

Dave was like the George Harrison of The Kinks. Played great lead guitar and wrote some great songs.
Oh how I love The Kinks.

Submission takes a generous portion from The Doors Hello I Love You. Both songs are great, exciting & still sound fresh to this day.

Neither one or the other but to the contrary in reverse yes no?
Amazing interview Dave is a innovative guitar player kids please don’t slice up your speakers they need a stomp box called ragged
Wow..he confirmed that he cut the speaker with a razor blade. I always wondered if that was true or not.
Don't Forget To Dance!
I think the Kinks invented Punk Rock.
Largely, although when music critics started talking about punk rock they included e.g. "Louie Louie."
I think Crass did. Up until then it was proto punk (The Monks, Kinks, Stooges, velvets, old blues, Wilko Johnson etc) and pub rock (Pistols)
BestCanKeanRob2 Fuck off.
My 17 yr old daughter and I just had a conversation about this in the car while listening to You Really Got Me.

Of course the "Hello I Love You" riff was ripped off from the Kinks anyway.
