    This was perfect. Thank you. I watched because I didn’t know how to identify new/old cans and new/old manifold gauges. This covered it so now I can shop. Thanks.

    The self sealing can requirement has made things a PITA. Needed 3 cans to charge my vehicle and had to use 5 with possibly 2 wasted due to the poor quality of the valves. Had both the new style and the old piercing type using a manifold gauge set. All 5 worked poorly due to limited flow from the can. I think the EPA has created an unintended consequence due to poor can/valve manufacturing that will lead to people taking unorthodox methods to extract the refrigerant or the less responsible just throwing defective cans in the trash. I'm glad it's still available to consumers, I think the new regulation will result in more harm than good. Great video by the way !

      The Schradeer in the Super Tech brand of cans I just bought (Sep 2023) at Walmart do not seal if I remove the valve. I bought Super Tech R134a sealant and Super Tech R134a to repair my fridge. So far the repair is working and I have 10 degrees F in the freezer compartment. We'll see if the repair lasts or I get to buy a new fridge.

    Thanks for the video. I was recharging my van after installing a new AC system and ran into problems. I had old two cans of refrigerant that I've had for years and they went in with no problem, but when I tried to put in the next can that I bought this morning, it wouldn't go in and I couldn't figure out why. I noticed that when I removed the tap the can stopped leaking, so I figured it must be some EPA bravo sierra so I started investigating. Thanks for clearing it up.

    Great little video - thanks! So when you connect the new valve you turn the handle all the way clockwise to release the freon and then leave it there while it's connected to the LOW pressure side of the AC system? I wasn't sure because the old system you pierce the top and then you turn the knob counterclockwise to release the r134a.

    i was having trouble getting the new valve r134 to come out, even with the new piercing valve. it was because i put a schraeder adapter on the out port of the new valve, that goes to the gauge's yellow service hose. so i took off the adapter, and i'll try it the next time i recharge.

    I had bought the new style valve to use with a self seal can and for some reason the Freon was not charging in to the system, I don’t know if it was the manifold not working , but when I removed the valve from the hose refrigerant started coming out and couldn’t get the valve to close down the can, not sure if i needed the adapter plus the new style valve but ima give a second try with adapter

    • @cuulongquach3482

      @@cuulongquach3482 I physically measure the threads of my yellow service hose and it is 1/2 inch. I took my gauges to O'Reilly to look at their can tap, the clerk opened it up and my hose fit exactly. So I'm not sure why a/c service hoses are so confusing between sizes. But the $7.99 unit at O'Reilly needed no adapter at all.

    The old piercing tips may wobble and run off the side of the schrader and ruin it. One that I have has a tip that is so fat it plugged the hole in the top of the can. Of course you can't see what is going on inside there. Maybe you can grind a flat end on the piercing tip.

      He said just find an old puncture style service port or adapter.

    • @Efferheim
      @Efferheim 2 роки тому

      Best option is to buy new cans. The schraders will eventually leak while the pierce style will not unless it rusts. So save the piercing-style cans for long term and buy and use new cans while the refrigerant is still available. Eventually the price of the old style cans will go up when new is no longer being made.

  • @jorgeboyas2255
    @jorgeboyas2255 3 роки тому

    So... The can tap port were you connect the yellow hose does not have any schrader valve; and the yellow hose does have a pin to push in a valve when screwing on the two connections together. So if the can tap does not have any type of valve, how does the liquid began to flow because the yellow hose is not being pushed in by any thing?

    • @Quincy8Boy
      @Quincy8Boy 3 роки тому

      I believe, then that yellow hose was made to attach to a manifold w/ a valve. My manifold has two yellow ports one valved and one w/o. I believe it work as a check valve to keep any refrigerant from flowing into the can if you accidentally hook it to the high side.

I went to Walmart web page to see what the f is wrong with super tech can of r134 and there write "Requires a new EPA Self-Sealing Valve Recharge Hose or Adapter for old style Recharge Hoses." If would not exist internet, and yes, I lived in time before the Internet, I would probably never have figured this out.

    The EPA should have made the threads or size of the threads different than the old style can, so it would not fit. That way you cant use the old style adapter and damage the schrader valve.
